Sabaton is a band from Sweden whos songs are about pieces of war history, they even have their own History Channel where they go through the real history behind the stories in their songs. Songs you ought to look for are "En livstid i krig" - The Gothenburg concert, it's in swedish but there are captions and this particular one is the best version, "No Bullets Fly" - animated story, Devil Dogs - about how the US Marines allegedly got their nick name, "Defence of Moscow" - about how the russians repelled the nazis when they invaded in WWII just to name a few.
Also, fun fact, the woman who does the aria in the end credits is Floor Jansen of Nightwish who's married to the drummer of Sabaton, Hannes van Dahl - who was the guy that left the trenches first in this video.

We played a lot of Sabaton in Bosnia and Kosovo while we were stationed there. We were called SSG LB back then. We held command posts in Sarajevo after the our initial efforts, the US 401'st AB were some of the funniest guys I've ever served with which is important because if people are not funny at base they will not be serious in the field.

I'm French and I witnessed the truth of this war in the memorial of these events when I was in highschool, saw the original letters of these soldiers and have read them...
I have cried so many tears after that and I couldn't stop thinking about how we are capable of the worse in our human History, but this Light of Humanity that happened a long time ago, it just made me cry a lot more, even when I came back home, I couldn't stop thinking that we are fools to kill each other for so ridiculous reasons...
And Sabaton, they revived in me that part of my memory, of what I felt in these trenches, and I cannot stop crying now...
That is a phenomenal music and video guys, and as a worshiper of God, today I pray for all of us to believe in peace, to believe in what we have so much in common, I don't care if you are gay or straight, a believer or an atheist, of the color of your skin, of your gender of no gender, to me you are human, just a little part of the World, and I wish you peace, love and health, to be with the one you love in a comfortable home, free from hate, poorness and war...
Let's be human for God's sake!
I'm writing and cannot stop crying!!
    Sabaton, you are amazing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Much respect and love from a French and Muslim Lady metalhead...

I won't pretend that ua-cam.com/video/fNkFdOaHBjw/v-deo.html is the best version of this song but it's the only time that Sabaton was played in Swedish media (no reruns will happen).
The song is live and was a few days later said to be one of the ten best Christmas songs ever (in Sweden).
In Sweden, you may sing about anything except Western nationalism and pride of your nation if it is western. That Swedish state media allowed this is a 'once in a generation happening'.

The soldiers of the Christmas truce found out, that they actually had more in common with the poor bastard in the other trench, than with their own generals!
In the Christmas of 1915, the generals couldn't have that! So there was no repeat of the 1914 Christmas truce on this large scale, as the artillery kept firing ... Some DID come out of their trenches, but was mostly instantly killed by the enemy soldiers. No moment of peace in a war that'll never end ... Until 11 o'clock, 11th of November, 1918 ... War to end all wars, indeed ...

Not only is it true, the Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. By Christmas 1914, the First World War had been waging for 5 months and had entered the long stalemate that would define the Western Front. For the men in the trenches, they were generations separated from conflict (the last major conflict on the European Continent was the Crimean War and the Napoleonic Wars were roughly a century before WWI) and this was their first Christmas away from family. Then one night, along the Western Front, multiple unofficial truces occurred. The popular story is that the British could hear the Germans singing Stille Nacht, or Silent Night, and then started singing along in English. From there, men got out of the trenches, went into No Man's Land, and celebrate Christmas together. It was a miracle.

It all started with a world-wide message from the pope, urging for peace on Christmas. Many of the trenches refused a truce since they felt that the enemy simply couldn't be trusted. Many soldiers who tried to exit their trenches with peaceful intentions were instantly gunned down becasue of paranoia. However, on a brighter note, many trenches actually didn't start fighting again until well after the new year had begun.
With this trench in particular (that the song is based on), it all started with the british soldiers singing "Silent Night", knowing that the germans would recognize it as a german christmas carol (written by two austrians). The germans responded by singing british christmas carols in turn, hence the lyric "and voices sang to me from No Man's Land".
Interesting facts: this Sabaton song actually starts as "Carol of the Bells" and then evolves into an original song. Also, the small town where "Silent Night" was written was declared an intangible cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 2011.
After this incident, high command on both sides banned any soldier from leaving their respective trenches with the threat of excecution.

Maybe I’m just turning into a bitter old man but I’m not criticising people but the education systems around the world. Sabaton are a phenomenal band (but please watch theirs and all videos the end as so will sometimes miss things that is important to the artist to portray in their art). Also loved you doing the Jinjer backstory video🤘🤘🤘. Love, Peace and Harmony 🙏🙏🙏

The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting.
The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad.
Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.

At some parts of the Western front of 1914, this Christmas truce actually held up until (and slightly beyond) New years eve 1914-1915. However, This was the Only time in recorded history where there's actually been a truce between the sides waging war, because after this, it was decided that If there was another attempt of having some sort of truce during a holliday like Easter or Christmas or anything like that, you would be sure to face Court martial after, and so this was tve Only time there's ever been a truce during a holliday sinse.

Very good reaction to a great song and to a great band. And you have actually open a large floodgate of great songs. To be fair it hard to pick songs from Sabaton they all good in my opinion. But I have my favorites and those are Bismarck, Red Baron, No Bullets Fly, Night Witches and En Livstid i krig both in English and Swedish. When it comes to the songs No Bullets Fly and Nigth Witchers there are animated story video also there are a animated story video for Chistmas Truce song to. And those videos is made by Yarnhub. Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band or some say warmetal band. So we all welcome you two in to the Sabaton family! Also a tip Sabaton History are their second channel of the war history and story behind the songs they make. Have a good day and take care of each other!

It's a true story. A British soldier recalled that on Dec 24th they heard singing from the German trenches & joined in. The next morning on Dec 25th they were in shock when they saw a German soldier crossing No Man's Land with a small fir tree with candles in its branches. A Sargeant Major said "get down ya bloody fools & shoot that man!" The British soldier immediately said *"oh shut up Sargeant it's Christmas time!"* before leaving the trenches where he met the German soldier in the middle of No Man's Land & they wished each other Merry Christmas before both sides had a joint celebration of the holiday

I don't disagree BUT I've seen several people that don't know a word Swedish or German, getting moist eyes when watching 'Carolus Rex' or 'Got Mit Uns'.
'The lion from the north' have some lyrics in Latin that seem important to the unknowing listener 👌
A Russian opera singer heard 'the defense of Russia' and started crying after a while. She knew the story and was surprised over her own reaction UNTIL she replayed the part that made her cry. That part of the song actually had the Russian national anthem hidden within.
Love or hate Russia, but hiding their anthem in the song was impressive 👍
'En livstid i krig' live in Gothenburg, is however my favorite.

    Is this for a movie?
    Oh, I remember the silence
On a cold winter day (sounds like Christmas when snow was normal)
And we were used to the violence
    We are all friends
And today we're all brothers (today?)
    A Christmas in the trenches
    Madness
    We drink and unite
    Today we're all brothers
    We drink and unite
    When we celebrated Christmas

Great reaction, guys!🤘 You better get used to high quality productions while discovering more Sabaton 😁. I recommend "Bismarck" (official music video), "No bullets fly" (animated story video. Make sure you watch it all! There's a lot of info after the song 😊) and "Red Baron" (live from Berlin, 2020). Every Sabaton song is a lesson in military history. They don't take political sides, they only tell the story. Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪🤘

Most of Sabaton's videos are of this quality. and I think all of their music comes from actual history. It was a fun Hook for them back in 1996. There is also a channel called Sabaton History on all of the songs.
The band is all in there. Hannes Van Dahl is, the man who gets shell-shocked, is the drummer, and the husband of the singer at the end who is Floor Jensen of Nightwish. The man with the mohawk, on the piano, is Joakim Brodén the band's lead singer. The man writing in his journal is Pär Sundström he plays the Bass and writes most of the lyrics I think. Then on the Allied side, Tommy Johansson is the SGT with the Guitar, is shockingly the lead Guitar, and also writes music and lyrics from time to time. Finally, the British Officer, who leaves the trenches to meet in the middle is the rhythm guitar. All of the side actors are actually WWI re-enactors. Who brought their own uniforms. If you look closely you'll see a great number of Variations in Hat style and uniform.

Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars.
They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022.
Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's UA-cam safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken)
If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these:
(These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use)
[live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising
[Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling
[Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama and The lost betallion
[Music Video's]: Bismarck, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising & Seven Pillars of wisdom
[Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's)
    [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video]
and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.

On December 24th the German soldiers lit their lanterns and displayed them on the edge of their trenches, carol singing broke out. Soon enough the British and French troops joined in. Christmas greetings, played Soccer and well wishes were exchanged, and offers of a temporary ceasefire were communicated between the trenches.
They also played the most iconic game of Soccer ever recorded.
The truce lasted for two days but when their superior officers found out the soldiers on sll sides were punished. Some were transfered out, some ran,not wanting to fight. And the r est w ere shot right there for refusing orders to restart the battle once again. The soldiers didnt want to kill those they had met.

Congrats, you've now discovered Sabaton and attracted the rather unique group that loves both history and metal music; songs to definitely find: Attack of the Dead Men (Sabaton's video but also the Radio Tapok one), Fields of Verdun (Music Video), Red Baron (live show), if you're alright getting emotional, try Final Solution (Lyric Video)

That's history to the point. The WW1truce was all over the western front battle lines. The Pope have just asked for an Xmas truce but top brass didn't. So spontaneously soldiers began to sing xmas songs from one trench to the other until finally some just climbed the trenches and were received by the enemy. In the video you see one soldier writing to his family and historically that's in great part how this truce got known. And guys you missed Floor Jansen singing the credits segment.
