Your video was awesome. It took me a little longer because I had to take some breaks. I'm 80 and lost the partial use of my right arm and hand. Couldn't have done it without your video.
Just changed the battery in my 2017 Silverado 1500 LT. It was VERY MUCH EASIER following your video. Wrench sizes, tips, etc. Mine had an extra bolt on connection and plug to the positive bus on top of the battery that came off the passenger side so had to disconnect those to relocate the positive bus. Disconnected and reconnected when done with no problems electrically anywhere. Thank you for the excellent tutorial - it is greatly appreciated!!
You did a step differently than another video creator did; yours saved me about 6 to 10 minutes. And like others said, the tip of turning the battery on its side was golden.
The removal of this battery is a great example of things looking and seeming harder than they really are. Without your video I probably would have taken a couple of hours figuring out each complication. Your video is 19 minutes. It took me 19 minutes to complete the job. Can’t thank you enough!
This trick to get the battery in/out just saved me so much time after needing to replace my battery during winter in Northern Illinois! Thanks so much. I was afraid I’d have to move the coolant reservoir, but because of you, I didn’t!

Mahalo, I was cussing my truck out as I looked at the wide open battery tray in the front drivers side and thinking I had to pull the coolant tank on the tray they used - you saved me lots of time and cussing. Thank you for this video. I watched several related videos on this topic, but yours was the most helpful. I replaced the battery in my wife's 2019 Suburban today and your hints and tips saved me a lot of time and frustration. Well done.
Helpful video, thanks. My battery went dead on me. Called a local shop. $575 installed. Expletive That! Called O'Reilly's $285 out the door (same one you used here) with the donuts. No brainer there. This video saved me a lot of time and headache. No telling how long it might have taken to figure out to roll it over sideways. Thought about it ahead of time and came up with an idea. Before I rolled it over, I slipped an old belt around the front end of the battery, sinched it down, rolled the battery, grabbed the belt for a handle and pulled it right out first try. Did the same on the new one going back in. Piece of cake. Mine is a '14 and must be a little different in as much as the same 13mm for the battery lock was the same for the three bolts on the brace.
Just replaced mine today in my 2014 GMC SIERRA……your video made it very easy. I did have to move my coolant tank out of the way but that was easy too Thanks for posting
Read a lot of negative comments that people think since they did it a different way your method was wrong.... I don't understand people's logic sometimes 😅 Great video! It helped me change the battery in my 16 Silverado just fine. And I didn't have to remove my coolant tank either 🤯🤡 Thank you sir!
You are a gentleman and a scholar, thank you sir! Not sure why everyone lost their minds either. I replaced this battery 3 years ago and is still going strong. I think people like to just say stuff is "wrong."
Unfortunately I let mine go too long and by the time I got back from vacation it was totally dead wouldn’t hold a charge so obviously jumping it was out of the question too so I was on my own here I will say it was a little more of a pain than my old Silverado but watching this video definitely saved me time I never like removing g anything I don’t absolutely have to so after getting my tools together start to finish this probably took 20 minutes only took me one try to flip the old one over and yank it out and luckily the new one I got which is a higher performance battery was noticeably thinner than my old one so it went in pretty easily I appreciate the tips and the tool list no doubt that saved me a lot of time

Yo I never thought about turning it sideways. Was hella easy. Even easier than you made it seem. Everybody saying that's not how it's done it's dumb. Thanks for the tip.
I took the coolant tank off my 2015 silverado to get the battery out, the battery went out in the middle of july last year in lower alabama and it took me about 3 hours because I couldn't see where to disconnect the tank because of all the sweat dripping in my glasses. It was a miserable experience, I caught myself vowing to never buy another GM product because of their stupid engineering.
@@jl123ist I've had that thought before with this truck. While I love driving it and its utility, changing the headlamps or air filter made me wonder what they were thinking.
Just a quick safety tip.. if you plan to turn it sideways to remove the battery it’s best to use the terminal covers that came with your new battery to avoid contacting both terminals with any metal in the area. Batteries have enough juice to weld and it can be very dangerous doing it this way.
This guy made me nervous watching the removal. The reservoir is 2 small bolts, can remove battery easily and replace it with a GROUP 48, smaller case same power.

Good video and very helpful, thanks for posting it. 👍 FYI, take it or leave it, just for technical info in case you’re curious: AGM = Absorbent Glass Mat (electrolyte [battery acid] is absorbed essentially in fiber glass and placed between the lead plates, as opposed to classic “flooded” cells, where the electrolyte is free flooded in the battery), it’s not technically gel. Also, “bus” is the electrical equivalent of a piping header for mechanical systems. Brother, thanks so much for posting that video. I had to change my battery this morning before going back to work tonight. Couldn't figure it out without removing a tank. Thumbs up to you sir.
I'm glad I UA-cam'd this before it turned into a 2hr job. These trucks look so intimidating to do the most minor tasks(*cough* replacing the intake filter *cough*) I'm glad after watching this video I avoided that headache👍🏼
Great video brother but take it from someone who has a 2017 1500 sierra and has messed with these batteries several times, just remove the coolant reservoir. You dont even need to remove the hoses connected to it. Just remove the two bolts that holt it in place and lift it up and lean it back out of the way. This eliminates the risk of damaging the reservoir when removing the battery and only takes a minute. Then just grab the battery handle and lift out. If your someone like me and can become impatient pretty easily at times, this is the way to go.

Great video, "guys"! On my '14 Silverado, you'd best remove the vertical piece that attaches to the cross bar over the battery. It's in the way of the buss assembly that has to be moved out of the way. Don't know if that's true for all Silverados. Rolling the battery to allow exit and entry was priceless. Would have been much more difficult otherwise! THanks!

I’m sorry but that’s not how a battery is removed from the Silverado just remove the 2 10mm bolts that mounts the coolant reservoir move to the side grab the battery lift handle and remove it the way it was intended not flipping it to it’s side or stepping up on a ladder reaching your arm under the battery needed, takes 2 minutes to move the reservoir much easier 👍🏻
The video was good to watch for learning as I have a GMC with a dead battery. The one thing that was annoying was the volume of the music compared to your talking. Just a thought.
Any time you played music the volume was deafening as your volume in your vocal is so low that it needs to be turned up pretty high to hear you . Then when the music comes on it’s pretty loud .
Thanks for the bolt size . Was quick for me cause of that had it in and out in 5 minutes. Make sure your caps you get have been put on your old battery . With the housing its hard to strike both at once but it can be fatal or your neighbors thinking a home alone scene lol
This video was one that helped greatly, maneuvering the battery was no joke, those twist ties we normally throw away, save them. They’re great to hold cables out of the way..
So you do not have to tip the battery to get it back in there. There is a bolt that holds down the reservoir next to the battery. If you loosen that a little bit it will move and give you room to put the new battery in without tipping it. Sometimes tipping a battery can cause acid to leak out.
Pretty darn good except for volume up & down & top of your hat blocked camera ! There are other videos for this year but different tops (?) Mine is like this ! Thanks "Guy's "
You ain’t lying about turning the battery side ways to put it in i couldn’t get it to go the other way had I’d done this the first time would of saved me a lot of time thanks for the tip
I changed the battery in my 2017 YUKON back in June ("22), had to do the same thing, spin the battery on it's side to get it out & back in. I just changed the battery in my 2009 Silverado in December ('22) & that battery is much easier to change out.
Replace the original H7 “94” with an H6. Same width, can match or exceed the original 720cc and it’s 2 inches shorter. Fits perfectly into the channels on battery tray and once you tighten the hold down bushing you’re all set. You will never have to remove the coolant reservoir or vertical bracket when changing your battery. 22 year GM mechanic here @Dave Arbogast Buick GMC Troy Ohio. Work smarter not harder
5:48 and the main purpose of that bar is to make the average owner say, "i better take this into the dealership to change the battery." Typical person would open the hood and be able to change a battery, but if something else is in the way, then theyll scratch the idea and take it to the dealership. Same thing with headlight bulbs, u gota take the bumper, grill, splash sheilds in the wheel wells, sometimes front fenders, just to change the bulb. Instead of just designing it like how its worked forever. In the meeting when designing the vehicle, someone in there said, lets make the headlight bulbs very difficult to replace and most will bring it to the dealership, equals more money.
I recently changed the battery in my 19 Tahoe. Looks identical, But I only had to simply lift the front of the battery first. Tipping on the side seems like a risky move without positive side cover on it.
Man, from 5:07 I had to crank up the volume to hear what you were saying, then an ad came on, about gave me a coronary. Do you have an external mic? Thanks for posting sir, good info. I got the the diesel so it's doubly expensive! Ouch!

I'm not a fan of that method, more work. The battery is on its side for 10 seconds with this change, it's not consequential.
I couldn't believe it. The reservoir has hoses on it for a reason. Ratt, the bolts are 6mm with 10mm heads.
I’d never flip a battery on it’s side like that. The reservoir needs to be moved. This is a terrible design. Hopefully GM fixed it on newer models.

thank you for posting this video. much appreciated!!!
How has the AGM battery been working in cold weather since the installation?
Just did this yesterday. No issues. 15 minute job. Thanks! Why anyone would remove anything else is just plain dumb.
Thank you so much buddy 🤗🤗🤗 thanks to you was an easy task
Great vid, was having problems for almost an hour, watched this and I got it to come right out. Gained a sub🤝
Glad to hear Dakota! It can be a frustrating job without some help. Happy to hear the video helped.
This video was a huge help. I couldn’t get the coolant tank loosened up so this made all the difference!
Thanks Adam! Glad it helped.
I took negative cables in fuse box off by mistake Does it matter which one you put on first
Maybe not, but you should still try to do it in the proper order imo.
Wow, I was a little apprehensive about taking it out myself, but after watching your video...easy to do. Thank you very much
You are a gentleman and a scholar, thanks Troy!
Thanks for the bolt size . Was quick for me cause of that had it in and out in 5 minutes. Make sure your caps you get have been put on your old battery . With the housing its hard to strike both at once but it can be fatal or your neighbors thinking a home alone scene lol
Good video it was a great help from you sir knock it out in 20 minutes😀👍🏼
Never seen a battery change like that in my life and I have changed a few batteries
You my friend is a genius. 😘😘
Thanks Joey! Yes, it's a big time saver, glad to be able to help. Please subscribe if you don't mind.
@@TheTruckGuy yes sir will do keep them videos coming you did well
Thanks Joey, will do!
Sheesh, so many haters in the comments lol.
Thank you for a great video on changing the battery man. God bless you
Thanks for the video! Helped so much! Your advice was spot on!🔧😎👍
I changed the battery in my 2017 YUKON back in June ("22), had to do the same thing, spin the battery on it's side to get it out & back in.

Very good point!
Extremely Helpfull!!! thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks Brother, awesome video. You made my job easy!!!
Great to hear Ruben! Glad you enjoyed it and it helped. Hit me up with a subscribe if you haven't already.
Just subscribed to your channel. Once again thank you
I recently changed the battery in my 19 Tahoe.
Looks identical,
But I only had to simply lift the front of the battery first.
Tipping on the side seems like a risky move without positive side cover on it.
Great video. Thank you.
Excellent video Great to know the tricks of the trade I'm one mechanic to another like rotating the battery to get it in and out!
Man, from 5:07 I had to crank up the volume to hear what you were saying, then an ad came on, about gave me a coronary. Do you have an external mic? Thanks for posting sir, good info. I got the the diesel so it's doubly expensive! Ouch!
What kind of ladder did you use?
The stability Track came on my Truck and turned off I change the battery it went away 2 yrs now it came back again wondering if it's Battery again?
