I did the same thing, bought the updated GM one, then got the PPE one and also the deep pan they make to hold more fluid trans runs nice and cool. Did notice that in the cold weather here in NY trans temp does not get very high and gets very poor gas mileage in the winter.
What the difference in gas mileage and why you think it causes drop in mpg I know tire pressure drops couple psi in cold
FYI you can tell if yours is the updated factory version. Look at the bottom of the TBV @ 8:40 in video. It will have "70" stamped into it. If it has the stamp that means they replaced the old one and your g2g!
Changing out the original TBVs on these transmissions is a must if you want them to last.
Yup I have no idea what GM was thinking when they made the stock TBV to only open at 195°. Absolutely cooked my 6L80 and it blew up on me at 150k miles
I have a 2017 Sierra. I just changed mine yesterday! Temps are at least 20deg cooler...
My 2018 Silverado 1500 transmission blew at 110,000 miles. Got a "new" transmission and after a month was seeing trans temps still above 220deg. Installed the Superior Solutions kit you referenced, and temps have not gone over 195deg since installed. Had Chevy dealership look at transmission for high temps twice before it blew and all they did was replace the transmission fluid.
Oh jeez. Yeah 220 is not good at all. The most I’ve seen on mine is 207 and I think even that is way too hot
My 2015 subarban Mine Mine blew up 104k miles
I used the superior kit had no issues taking it apart, Trans runs at about 160 towing like my older trucks did before this stupid thermostat
I’ve heard good things about the Superior kit. Although my TPV looked like it would be a huge pain to open up. Plus I didn’t have any snap ring pliers handy
I just got a 2014 Tahoe police car, will need to change that piece?
Only if your transmission fluid is getting up into the 200° range. If it’s steady around 160-180 it should be fine
I changed it on 2024 Silverado temp never goes over 175 degrees
My 2020 AT4 trans temp has never gone past 160. Just changed the trans fluid at 95K with amsoi
Can anyone please let us know how you check the fluid level now with this thermal bypass? So many different answers, I’m totally confused.
Should not change anything. Unless you also added a deeper transmission pan to allow a bigger capacity. But the fluid check procedure should be the same after doing the thermal bypass
@@StrongTurf aaaand that is what????? Not one video with these bypass mods show how the fluid should be checked properly, which is the most important step missed. The instructions say no warm up needed. I phone the place and they say just check level whenever. This is exactly why I’m asking the question.
My 2020 AT4 10 speed has never gone past 160. I just recently changed out the fluid and filter at 95K
You also probably have a more heavy duty torque converter in that 10 speed. These wimpy 6L80 torque converters just melt when the temp gets above 190
I’m gonna assume you drained the transmission fluid before doing this ??
Nope left it full and it only drained a little bit of fluid out when I took it off
@@StrongTurf I’ve noticed my 2014 is starting to shift hard in lower gears even before getting warmed up. I don’t do much towing if at all, been curious if this will help fix along with a trans filter/fluid dump.
@@ryandurham5725depends if you have already changed your trans fluid regularly. I didn’t change mine until 100k, then it started shifting hard at about 120k, changed fluid again at 140k then it blew up at 150k. I would only change the fluid if you have already done it often. Otherwise just leave it.
Experiencing trans failure right now on my 2014 at 150,000 miles
Sounds about right. Mine started shifting very hard and slipping around 130-140k and blew up pretty much as soon as I got to 150k. Bought a new 6L80 from Autozone for $3500 and swapped it in my driveway with the help of some UA-cam tutorials
More Chevy shit !!!!!!!
When I found out about this I immediately went to the steelership and got the updated version , I noticed a huge drop in temp from 195 to maybe 165 , it works and is worth every penny .
How much did the updated GM thermostat from the dealership cost?
