the minute you turned the key on and the chime was at full blast I knew right away there was an aftermarket amplifier in the vehicle. also there was an LC-1 volume knob on the knee bolster, the wire at the under dash connection was what the audio shop used as an "amplifier turn on (remote wire)" and it SHOULD have been installed on a switched accessory wire (they installed it to a constant 12v instead causing the aftermarket amp to stay powered on) you could have put an amp clamp on the 4 guage wire under the hood and seen the amp draw. the boxes behind the radio were called line out converters. they are installed at the factory radio speaker outputs to drop down signal to RCA level to go to the aftermarket amplifier, and there would be speaker wires tied into the speaker sides of the wires that came from the amplifier. Also you should have noticed the large blue 4 gauge wire on the driverside firewall. That will have been connected to battery positive and ran to the amplifier. (probably mounted on back wall behind seat) great video again dude!
OZ YOU ARE THE BEST, YOUR DIAGNOSTICS BRAIN WORKS LIKE A CHARM. YOUR APPROACH TOTALLY LIKE A GENIOUS ALL THE WAY.THANKS
Superb Job! Clear and logical troubleshooting and a nice clean repair. Job well done!
Absolutely superb job, Oz!
I have that same wire by the pedals. I'll look into this. Thanks, man. Amazing work.
It suck’s from the customers prospective; he didn’t know the prior owner hacked it up. Hopefully it wasn’t a flood car. Great diagnostic work tracking down it’s draw.
Good job following the source of drain!
Came here from the IJ channel. I'm happy to hear you got your temp injunction, keep fighting the good fight.
Thanks for the support
Outstanding work! I like that you did nothing fancier than use multimeter and pair of pliers to find the culprit for this one.
Sometimes old school works best
@@OzMechanics congrats for the shop 👏

Professional work 👌
Thank you
Good morning brother, thank you for your video, I went through the same process and found it was a parasitic drain/short in my steering wheel.
But what I really need to find now is the link for those battery terminal jumper clips that plug into your kline tool.
Again Thank you for your help bro.
Excellent fix. 👍👍
Thanks for watching
nice job 👍
awesome bro
Good job 👍
Thanks
Where did you hook other lead to the positive terminal or negative post????
Appreciate the video! I Have the same problem, chime is turned down and its loud. Bought new battery 3 months ago and now says low battery.. 2014 Ltz with the sound system package, could this be same issue? I’ll check it out for sure
Awesome job Oz, was this the one you did a little while ago when I asked about a 2014 Chevrolet that had a different issue or that you couldn't do a video on? It was on your last video before this like a couple weeks back. Good video buddy, I appreciate all your guy's help, knowledge and advice thru everything.
Do you remember what video I commented on ?
@@OzMechanics it was on the last video ya did from 2 weeks ago on a Chevy no start diag video you did.
@@OzMechanics its all good if ya weren't able to do a video or if ya got busy, not trying to be a pain. You mentioned you had someone come by your shop with a similar problem as my vehicle a 2014 Chevy Malibu LS and I mentioned saw a video from your buddy Eric G at Advanced Level Auto. You commented saying that it was funny I brought it up and you had a customer make an appointment on similar problem as mine, just was wondering if ya found the conclusion to that similar vehicle.
@@OzMechanics also date of that last video was Jan 28th to be exact. Sorry not trying to be a bother, I apologize if I am. You do an awesome job man.
Good fix
Having the same issue with power draw, and the loud chime occasionally check for Amp draw and got nothing
I'm having that same problem, custom sounds hooked my amp ,10s, and lc71 , having a voltage problem and my chime is super loud with the chime volume all the way down, thanks Maan
2020 Chevy 2500hd diesel. Same problem. Can you please explain the process of holding up the volt meter inline to test?
Always gotta be an aftermarket hack installer.....
That is to retain steering wheel controls and door dinger when installing a cheap aftermarket radio and or subwoofers. They come with a stupid loud speaker that most people duct tape foam over to quite it down. It's supposed to be on a key power obviously. Most likely previous owners had a android headunit and put most everything back to stock. Just easier to leave the thing behing the cluster and trade it in. Probably kept the radio for the 2017 2500hd they traded for.
VERY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR USE OF DATA THAT LED TO EXCESSIVE DRAW
I have a 2018 Silverado 1500. Had for 3 years. The dinger on my is really loud also. I cant stand that. I have it turned down all the way. What should I check? Thank You
Looks like work by Best Try.
Could my towing package be drawing power? It's in the same junction as this radio.
I’m having similar problems with my 16 Silverado. Thanks I’m gonna I got to check mine out from what I’ve learned here and there
Any update?
My '07 does the same thing (did it last nite/this morning), but it does it so randomly, it would be a futile chase. Perhaps once a year.
Good video...
Thank you John. Hope you get a chance to subscribe to watch future videos
goat ... mind just did this last night well not this but drained where are you located
That was a hack job for sure. If you want to install an aftermarket amp, spend a couple of bucks more and get the proper patch cable that plugs into the factory harness. It's only about $30 and makes a clean install. If you want to ever remove it just unplug and everything goes back to factory. No more hacked up wiring.
I do like the video
So did you tape off, leave off that wire?
My 2013, it was the onstar constantly running. After going through everything you can, i dislocated it under the drivers seat. Done.
How do these people sleep at night after jacking up someone’s ride like that? As you know once they mess up electrical systems they can brick a vehicle or leave someone stranded.
Good video. Subbed. 👍
Yea, some people should not work on vehicles when they start doing this. But thanks for watching
Great job 👏 wish you could come to cali to help me with my 04 silverado my battery dies over night ..
I have some buddies in California that might be able to look at it
@@OzMechanics im in riverside ca
Thanks for the informative troubleshooting video. Is the online website you used for the wiring diagram free?
Thanks for watching Steve. Unfortunately,
No. I pay a monthly subscription… but you can look up alldata diy and get it for a one time charge for one vehicle
Check your third brake light for water leaks. Very common issue.
nice find! ugggh aftermarket crap strikes once again
Not a big fan of some after market parts
14:26 that kind of "treasure" you never wish to find!
Thanks for sharing with us those educational videos , do u know someone heavy trucks or bus technician youtube channel please.
Thanks from Morocco
I work on city buses, no videos though

Unfortunately i can't found no one...
Oz...no links to other videos showed up in
Video... need those,as iam currently dealing with issue....
I just added 2 links to the video. Go back to the video and they will pop up when I talk about it
Moral of the story: stop messing with factory wiring
I ran into something similar with my 2014 Sierra…….someone messed things up.
Leave it factory
Leave things alone
It works better that way
What is the address to the Mitchell website?
With such a high draw, I wonder if an infrared camera would have saved a little time at the fuse box. Aftermarket installers should be required to supply a wiring diagram to help fix problems later. I suppose they don't want to do that with security systems.
That is another option I could explore. I just remember Eric from advance level auto telling me, Eric o made a video using the infrared camera and that lead him to a rabbit hole. Need to ask him about that video, so I can check it out.
Why didnt you use other dmm to voltage drop on every fuse
I’ve used different approaches in my career and I prefer the in series test I did on this video. I also made a video testing a draw using the in series test, amp clamp and voltage drop. You can find that video by watching this video again and clicking on the tab on the top whenever you get to the part of the video where I talk about the voltage drop test
I’m having a similar problem with the parasitic draw and I’ve unplugged every fuse I can, also replaced alternator and went through 4 batteries. It drains within 8-10 hours of shut off .Help! 07 Avalanche
I'm having the same issue
I have a 2007 Ford 250 and the battery goes dead in about 5 days I tested the battery and get 13v when charged the alternator is also putting out 14v . When i do the test to see draw the meeter goes to 1.39v and within 4 seconds goes to 0.19 and stays there . What could be wrong making the battery go dead in 5 days Thanks for any help Norm
Hi Norm, I know this is old, but did you ever figure out what cause your draw?
WHAT was ALL that aftermarket stuff??
Radio stuff

👍👍
Accessories should only be powered up with electrical system in run.
👍
But still good video
Thank you

Thumbs up 👍 for watching

If you're skilled enough not to screw up that bad while wiring up aftermarket stereo crap, you'll never work a single second in a stereo shop because you'll make the owner worried that you're am undercover narcotics officer.
Looks like it's been like this a while. Whoever did it though.. hhmm
Where are u located so I can take you my vehicle lol
In Texas Angel
@@OzMechanics I’m in Houston I have my wife’s Chevy Silverado 2008 throwing code is P0300 engine misfire just gotta find out where it is I always have an 06 impala 3.9 stalled out on me changed the fuel pump 7 months ago I hear the pump come on not sure if it’s a fuel pressure issue or something else no engine lights on nothing
2022 are a pain
That’s all great and good but why not have the straw man to troubleshoot the symptom abd trace it to the cause-- not one trail -- upload docs or video the flow and let people screenshot their issue.
Don’t worry - masonry is still using 109 year old methods.
One trace is one of a hundred
I’m confused on what the question is
