IMO better than the ROG Ally and the Steam Deck for gaming enthusiasts.

This is arguably the coolest piece of tech i've seen this year!
- Apparently, the Legion Go starts at $699
699? Ain't no way

699?????? Glad i didnt buy ally 😂😂😂
that is an insane price, if its anywhere close to that after imports then i need it.
If that's the price $698 I'm buying one. But any higher and I'm out
The mouse part actually blew my mind
I suspect this might actually allow me to game with a mouse. I just can't get used to AWSD plus ctrl shift etc, but with a thumbstick in my left hand and triggers at hand I think I could become a much better FPS player with this.
Thanks for informing us on Terraria news Chip!
I appreciate the mouse. but for us, me, Im lefthanded gamer, using mouse on the left, this is kinda deal breaker for me
would be nice for terraria aye
@@ulyssessait do you play handheld consoles or with a controller at all? or do you only play on PC?
That controller to mouse thing is almost revolutionary, what an amazing idea. Whoever at Lenovo came up with that needs a huge bonus at the very least
I am HR for Lenovo and can confirm we have given him a $500,000 pay out for developing this idea. Is that enough for your social media satisfaction?
@@OrvinReyes
And you need therapy
Bro, just connect a mouse to the handheld, you get the same cumbersome result lol
@@Cosmic-Bear.fr nothing revolutionary about it smh.
@@Cosmic-Bear. you dont get the point, that same mouse can also be attached to the device so you can play even without a desk to play on. If I have an ally and I want to be able to play using a mouse then I have to always bring around an additional mouse but with this you just have to detach the controller. The detachable controller presents so many use cases for me.
Thank you so much Valve for Steam Deck! Now everyone can finally see a lot of handheld PC in the market at reasonable price!
@@TheDave2DGiveaway-.what do you gain from embarrassing yourself?
I mean it's still more expensive and less functional than the deck
@@ThompYTSure but that’s because Valve sells the steam deck at a loss. They make that money back from people buying games from steam which other companies like this one can’t.
@ThompYT depends all these handhelds are mini pcs. You can play epic game library, Xbox library, GeForce now library, and emulated libraries! With the steam deck you're limited to only steam games unless you want to change the os for some odd reason. Me personally I've started playing alot of emulated games on my phone but I'm missing ps3, ps4 and Xbox games so a handheld pc is most definitely worth it 😂 the only question Is what used pc would beat the price to performance
@@thenoobreturnz8968 Either you're on crack or you've never had a steam deck. Thousands of emulated games, epic games too no issue, GeForce now as well. And if you don't like Linux for some odd reason it's not weird at all to install windows if you're that desperate for a very specific game. the steam deck is a mini PC, more than any of these will ever be
I really hope this becomes a trend and we get more and more high end hand helds with emulation and first party games. Im never home so these are a godsend for me.
Steamdeck has been a blessing for those extra hours at work for me …. Because in my case it involves alot of downtime and waiting
First party? This ain’t a PS, Xbox, or Switch.
Nyaee na Rajyam Lavde na bhojyam 🥰
@@BITSAT2024wtf??😅
Why would you ever want first party games?
I hope this product succeeds. Love seeing engineers think outside of the box but stay within reason
And give us a box they thought outside of for a case with the device...unlike ROG Ally
Seriously, the steam deck is garbage and so ugly.
It's not garbage. It's not perfect, it's not for everyone or even me, particularly, but it's not garbage.
it won’t the moment it releases the company is gonna get sued cuz the patent for that style of controller belongs to a company that fucks over youtubers for less
Unfortunately, like the rest of windows-based handhelds it has a very niche enthusiast/tinkerer market, because handheld experience with windows is too rough to say it mildly. I'm waiting for Valve to start licensing StreamOS to third parties, this is when those handhelds will start to be competitive with Steam Decks.
A big brand using hall effect sensors... FINALLY! Hopefully this is marks a beginning of a shift in the industry as a whole.
Meanwhile playstation edge still doesn't use one, laughable
i don't any one noticed it or not, but he's becoming old. When i was in college i watched out his videos every time when it cames. Now seeing him becoming old makes me feel sentimental. Thanks Dave2D for all of you're reviews.

Nah dave forget how to make his usual video style, it's been long pause and man is old
So long that David’s hair has seemingly grown out - seriously, when did that happen? Haha.
This is the longest, with no context or comparisons to other metrics. I guess I was right, not a terrible channel, but if you want a comprehensive review that doesn't seem like an ad look elsewhere. Because it seems like he was STEAMDECK IS GOD, ALLY IS GOD, NOW THIS IS GOD, UNTIL THE NEXT. Don't insert any context or nuance on how the pricing of all of this is shit. Just compare the $400 steamdeck to this $800 device. Sure the steamdeck only has 64 GB storage, but this only has 256 GB for double the fucking price. That should be a bigger issue. The desktop replacement laptop was a minor seller for a reason. You have to value the lack of portability. He tends to lean into certain aspects without any context.
Steam started an incredible handheld revolution and I’m all for it, I’ve got to get one of these if only for that mouse technology it’s fantastic
Yep. If valve didn't release the steamdeck, the computer manufacturers won't even think about releasing hand held computers. 👌
Get gabes sweaty balls out of your mouth. It was Nintendo and it doesn't matter how much you deny it.
Steam Deck already has a suitable replacement for a mouse and it doesn't require sitting down in front of a smooth flat surface: gyro aiming.
Look up gyro aiming on the steam deck.
There are several ways to go about it, usually combining the gyro with either a trackpad or a thumbstick. It's why the thumbsticks have touch sensitive caps.
nah, man, they existed earlier, they just were extremely expensive and they were super niche. Sony did it in 2006 with their Sony Vaio UX UMPC. It came with Windows XP. Steam did bring them to the mainstream though.
@@Ballador well if steamdeck didn't innovate the hardware, then we will just see a failed handheld computer.
Originally, I thought the gigantic screen resolution was a huge issue but now that I think of it running at 800p would look amazing due to the perfect scaling. Also thanks to AMD's RSR older games wont be a problem to run. They probably won't run at its native screen resolution but running at 1200p then upscaling to 1600p would look amazing and run perfectly fine. I think this is a big win IMO
What you want to do is Integer scaling
The mouse is a super cool feature now all they need is a center piece for the controllers to combine into 1 controller similar to the switch (it will surprise me if it don't come with that by launch). Great review I'm even more hyped now. I can't wait to buy one of these.
They need to or ask some other Chinese company to do it for them if Nintendo becomes unhappy with them. For the first time I am happy yhat Alienware chose not to bring out UFO. And Razer brought out their mobile SOC handheld. Those two would have priced it insanely.
They or some 3rd party will definitely take this so far missed opportunity. But I realized that you probably can just connect a ps5 or xbox controller to this thing anyway.
I'm glad to see that portable gaming is finally coming back.
p.s this is what I really meant to say the first time (and I know the switch exists and love it but for a long time it was the only thing in its genre.
They aren't really that portable.
Handheld yes but we are missing the vita/3DS level pocket size
Windows?
copying the switch and steam deck is not innovation. its a 6 year old concept at this point
But those were also running games specifically made for them. I don’t disagree that it would be cool to see another PSP, but that would probably need some upgrade in hardware like Apple’s M-chips were for Macbooks: super efficient to save space in cooling and battery size.
@@timzy11fulthe concept of this specific device is a little bit different though. isn't that the point of innovation?
I'm so excited to see how the portable gaming era is slowly coming back and I love it
It never left.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M Since the death of PS vita, Switch was the only thing mainstream until the steam deck arrived so yea, it was dead before now.
we all should say: "Thanks Nintendo"
@clvn9ja before the switch there was the 2ds and 3ds
What has happened is the transition from portable gaming being its own distinct category, because a handheld system was incapable of matching a desktop PC or console, to an era where the same set of games can now be taken anywhere. PSP started this trend, but still needed big cuts to be made to games for them to be ported over. Vita could've done it better but Sony never wanted to fully commit to it. The Switch changed the equation by fully merging Nintendo's home console and portable game systems. It changed what we see handheld gaming as. Even though it's long in the tooth now its impressive what has been achieved with Switch hardware. And now with the advances in x86 APUs it's become totally feasible to stuff gaming laptop innards into a Switch style form factor leading to all these incredibly impressive devices we've seen in the last year.
This thing and the whole concept of this sounds fantastic! I hope they keep refining and polishing this product. The mouse feature is really great. I wish the Steam Deck had that feature.. It would make desktop mode so much easier to use
The mouse thing with the controller is a nice touch. They should use magnet in the base like you mentioned, but instead of using a switch, the controller should automatically detect the magnet and switch to the mouse mode.
The addition of magnetic joystick mechanism instead of potentiometer is a major game changer. We used to have these in controllers like 30 years ago and they used to last way longer than their modern counterparts. Good to see it back and thanks to Lenovo.
Props to Lenovo for not cheapening out on a part that will get abused. ♥
@@KylePandapatanWill be interesting to see how well the device can be opened and repaired. I'd bet that with the detachable controllers it's not user repairable
Actually magnetic joysticks have long been extremely popular on Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck thanks to the company guilkit
Even the PS2 / PS3 era potentiometer sticks used to last ALOT longer. My two PS3 controllers still dont drift. This crap started with the PS4 era consoles somehow.
@@xXYannuschXx Nah, drift been here for a long time. I had 4 controllers for every console since the N64, and I had drift on PS2, PS3, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, and PS4 controllers. I agree that the problem has definitely gotten worse, though, as among all those controllers, only 1 controller I had for each console had drift (always the one that came with the console, and mostly within 2 years), EXCEPT for the PS4 - All 4 of my controllers have drift, and one of them got it within 2 months of use. I am *certain* that manufacturers are just cheaping out at this point.
I love seeing hardware engineers thinking outside the box! Very cool!
yes, the ones from nintendo are good at inventing these weird things 😅
@@ema_443 ehhhh other then the detachable controllers there isnt much the switch does hardware wise that is impressive, the docking solution is just a USB C port with displayport alt mode, the impressive part comes from the seamless transition, which would be on the software side of things
and for previous consoles, the wiiu flopped hard, Nintendo bought, not created, the wiis motion controls, and everything before that is just standard hardware
@@flamingscar5263 so did you think that right after March 2017th. Before that no one had done anything close to this but now they’re behind in handheld gaming when the switch is what brought handheld gaming back to the forefront🤦🏾♂️🤣🤣
You mean, beyond the box? 😉
@@flamingscar5263I remind you the switch was launched in 2017, before that year there was nothing comparable in the market. Like it or not the switch was revolutionary for the time being.
I couldn’t decide if I should wait for the Legion Go and there where some things I couldn’t find anything about elsewhere. Your video pretty much answered all of the questions I had. Thank you!
Can we eventually get a more in depth review of the legion go? Would like to see tests on thermals, any stress issues on the unit (like the ROG sd card slot issue), and other bench marks compared to other hand helds.
The controller-vertical.mouse hybrid is such a gamechanger idea for handhelds! Hoping to see this tech implemented in the next gen of the other handhelds 😮
Yeah, definitely didn't expect that, and I'm not even sure how much I'd use, but it's definitely a cool feature.
(My guess is it will be one of those divisive, "I don't really care" or "I absolutely love this" features, similar to people who use gyro for aiming, or the trackpads on the steam deck)
I’ve been watching handheld market for a while now and this gave me a jaw drop 😮
Would be dope to have a flight simulator joystick mount you could attach it to.
I don't know, if you are serious about competitive a wireless mouse is better in every way, otherwise gyro aiming is enough for offline game.
Vertical gaming mice alone should be more mainstream since it’s so much better for our wrists in the long run. Glad to see proper ergonomics baked into this design.
I love how AMD are pushing for the handheld market and making it accessible to the overall users. Kinda nice to see. I knew the Z1 would eventually be available to other OEM's outside of ASUS. Really cool to see!!!
@@beckinbinderinalso they way more expensive cuz those company’s don’t have any means to get more money back , I hoped ASUS and Lenovo could ask way less money for these pc/console hybrids

I say this not because you suggested otherwise, but that the way you worded it made it sound like you want to see steam deck level pricing on these, that wont happen, $500 is the lowest I would see all non steam deck PC handhelds going, though you do always have the option of waiting till a gen 2 device and buying a used gen 1, AMDs already announced their 8000 series mobile APUs will come out in 2024, I would be surprised not to see a Z2

Same I'm holding off for this I love my steam deck but this looks nice
Would still like to see how it does after launch.
Exactly the same
Rog isn’t very good imo. Disappointed by something pretty much every time I turn it on.
That was a very good impartial and fair review and the tear down at the end was interesting. It looks so much like a Legion Laptop inside, very slick!
It has been a while since Dave made a 20-minute video about a device and it's nice to see him that excited about something.
ROG Ally owner here... I'm super glad to see them address the FPS situation for the players that are interested in those games. I just hope it doesn't affect the price.
As an Ally owner, even if it did affect the price some, I think it'd be worth it. You still get a handheld when playing an RPG or a racing game, but you can make a tiny laptop when playing shooters and it's way easier than carrying a mouse and keyboard with you. That track pad on the right is also a godsend and the Ally so desperately needs one IMHO. Same for the ports, this one seems to have 2x USB C, and the screen looks so much nicer thanks to the smaller bezel. Even if it's like $999 it'd be completely worth it for me.
Looks like starting price for the Legion Go will be USD699
so the price has been announced 512b 16gb of DDR5 with the z1 extreme chip is $699 and for the 1tb version is $749.99
Unless they're reporting the controller button input as keyboard presses there will be a lot of games that completely refuse mouse input while a controller is being actively used.
Did you try gyro aiming? With practice you can play shooters REALLY well with it
Your quick review made me buy this thing and ive been loving it, thank you ❤
Thanks Dave! Your review has me considering getting one. 👍🏾😁

Except Lenovo has terrible software support so good luck using it for more than a year.
I've been loving my Steam Deck and would be happy with it for the next couple of years but this thing looks amazing. If it turns out to be as good as it looks, I may end up replacing my Deck with it. The hardware looks so interesting. Definitely gonna keep my eye on this!

@@BahhBahhBrownSheep "I'm happy with my Deck" doesn't contradict "I may end up replacing it". I love my Steam Deck but this thing is a somewhat unnecessary upgrade. @KasukeSadiki The Jsaux mod case is fantastic. I bought the fan kit and it has come in handy with games like Baldur's Gate 3 where the temp will hit 70 fast with the internal fan running wide open. With the Jsaux modcase and fan running at roughly half speed I can get it down to 64, if I turn it up all the way I can get it down to 59. Fantastic case and great attachments.

I think hard plastic analog sticks is a good choice. You usually just need an analog rubber caps to make it feel better. So the caps would only tear and not the analog itself.
What I love more than the product itself is that I feel like the engineering team had many liberties and had the freedom to get creative and really fined tuned everything as they got to play with it. As someone who grew up with the GBA SP I don't mind clicky D-Pads 😋😋

I just got mine and it's awesome
I just wish that these systems could be more modular, like a full PC. The competition is cool to see, but it creates the same issues as gaming laptops where we shell out a bunch of money, then 3-5 years pass and the you have to upgrade to the latest model. I'd rather have a few APU, batteries, display, ram, motherboard options. Yeah I know that would be very costly, but I'd pay to keep what I have up to date on my time

Nintendo deserves far more credit for popularizing this form factor
Well the have received tons of recognition for the switch, they now need to innovate, they've been stuck with the switch for years.
This could have been the switch 2 or switch pro whatever but nintendo kept on milking the switch by just giving it new designs or palette/color swaps and then selling them for a higher price instead of upgrading their hardware.
dude it's Nintendo, the switch has sold 130m units. we all know where the form factor came from lmao, i don't even know what your comment means
Please don’t credit Nintendo for shit. The reason this happened is because of all the proprietary nonsense between Sony and Nintendo the last 20 years. Valve had enough and finally made the deck and now everyone saw there’s a market demand and Lenovo improved the switch themselves.
@@Venomx-nb1jr well Nintendo did come up with the detachable controller bit. I think that's what they were referring to. That said, I also think Nintendo has already gotten plenty of recognition for that so I don't know what else they want.

Lenovo has had some really innovative design choices on products for decades, so it's nice to see them bring it to the handheld PC space (even though it's still surprising to see them enter this space). I had zero interest in this when it was announced but the Legion Go has my attention now.
Well, OneXPlayer 2 already had detachable controllers and a kickstand several months ago. It was built around 6800U, but the new Pro one coming out now is based on 7840U too.
dave, your watch looks dope. What is that?
Casual and very uncut, this is one of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. Very clearly gives a ton of info and impressions, in one go, while actually demonstrating live. I think it’s so much better when little mistakes or hitches are left in, it feels way more real and I instantly give the analysis more credibility.
but that's what linus being critized for, the difference is dave more prepared. Unlike Linus
@@laillosidgar Right, Dave might have it seem super off-the-cuff but he’s clearly got loads of points to make clearly, he might have a script with how much information he gives, but either way it feels spontaneous.
Whoa cool comment to read! I was trying to do something a little different for this video where I could interact with the device in real time for the video. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Being able to make the right controller into an actual mouse is sick as hell. I'd use these kind of controllers with a desktop PC if I could buy some!
I really hope they take the criticism and mkae something great, because they have the huge potential to keep up with the deck
Never though Lenovo would be the ones innovating and producing possibly the best gaming handheld out right now. I got the Ally when it released but ended up returning it as it didn’t meet my expectations. The Legion go looks more refined and I will definitely be picking one up!
Did you end up pick one up? If so, how was it?
I have really enjoyed my ally... but this seems just so much more well thought out and feature packed. Super excited for it
Yeah may have to get this too I wish they ally was black
Lenovo did a great job with making this, great to see some innovation especially in these portable handheld devices, excited to see what’s to come when it releases
Amazing! But I dislike the click noises! Do the rest of the buttons are noisy as well or just the D pad?
Which one would you say has less noisy controllers, this or the steam deck?
Loved the Casioak❤
