He held the dead lift record in the 220's i'm remembering in the early 80's. I trained in the gym he trained back then in Kansas when I was in the military. It was owned by another great powerlifter Nate Foster. Thanks for the great video!!
Im not into powerlifting but Ed's personality had me stick around for an hour and 14 minutes. What a champ and such a cool an mellow dude. Great production on this video. Good work!
Ed's story about what powerlifting did for him, how he met Hege, and how he feels privileged to be a part of this sport that means so much to him was extremely powerful. What an awesome video.
I got to say Mark, your videos are the ones that help us youngsters learn. I'm not talking just technique and such, but how to be a good well rounded person. I click on your vids and they are an hour long and I tell myself damn thats way too long, but then I get so focused and attached to the content that it flies by. Keep it up, we need to learn because we have a long way to go.
Cants seem to reply to your question but this is so inspiring for me. When I grew up in the 80s in Australia, Ed was a guy in a picture in muscle & fitness who Fred Garfield would rave about, so to hear him speak, to realize he's such an affable, decent guy who loves the iron as much as you do (even though he's more gifted than 99.9% of humans) and that getting big and strong for its own sake, and achieving his goals was all he cared about...that deep, zen like love for the game that never leaves you...is what I loved about it. I cried when he cried. It was awesome to see.
I had an erection the entire time. Starting at about the 20 minute mark I began orgasming uncontrollably, which lasted until about 5 minutes after the video was over
I have a sponsor in 12 steps and he reminds me a lot of Ed Coan. Looks and behaviour. Naturally super strong aura and genuinely humble. Very intelligent. I wept when I met him in 2015 and he agreed to coach me. saying "sure". I knew that he could teach me exactly where I needed huge changes in mentality. He makes a huge difference to this day. I met Eddie Coan in 2003 in Calumet City and he was very friendly. As we said in our gym (2 guys totalling 2150 raw plus) Ed Coan is the MAN. God bless him.
This video is awesome! I watched it multiple times and I'm sure, I will watch it yet many many times... When Ed says "The best thing I got out of powerlifting..." - it beats all motivation movies that I've seen on YT. Thank You Ed!
This guy. man. You know, a real person, someone with real values, and a perception of themselves that is down to earth. Its great to have people like Ed to look up to and to see an actual example of what a man is. Someone who dedicates themselves, someone who recognizes the important things in life, someone who loves, and who is unafraid of expressing their admiration and humility. DAMN.
Excellent video, it seems to not only capture Ed's amazing accomplishments and dedication to power lifting but his desire to always work toward his personal best as well as to help others reach their best. As a 16-year old, a body building neighbor/friend of mine began bringing me with him to Quad's Gym to lift. I can remember him pointing out several of the big-time lifters in the gym to me, and being introduced to the pound-per-pound world's strongest man. What amazed me the most was how nice Ed was, even taking time to give me a couple pointers on squats.
What an awsome get-together. It sucked me in and I felt like I was sitting next to Ed listening to his experiences. I forgot all the world around me.!!!!
Favorite line: "I'd put some parmesan cheese on that meatball head." I love what SuperTraining Gym stands for and how they're communicating to my generation.
Great Video! The most impressive thing about Ed is that he takes it all in stride, and never lost perspective on what was important. I consider myself lucky to have known him personally.
