What I don't understand is how people were banned for attending a seminar Ed gave, but then the USAPL allows Mark Bell to sponsor one of their biggest events - seems awfully hypocritical
Ed is like the dad we all wish we had. Everything he says is 100% accurate and true, he has already lived it, but we won't listen because we are still young and stupid and think hes an old man who doesn't know how things are now for us! The main principles and lessons learned hold true today, though.
That just shows how incredible Coan is that he makes lifters wish they were short and stocky. I learned a lot from watching his instructional videos and listening to his super training stuff. Thanks Ed, you taught me what it means to powerlift.
Thank you guys! Thank you! Loved hearing everything Ed had to say.... so much to learn from... so much to think about. Chad and Max, you guys are the absolute best. I really think I owe you money for all that I've learnt from you..... :-)
Ive been watching podcasts, videos, vlogs etc etc on powerlifting and strength training for two years straight. This podcast has the most takeaway imo. Chad, Max. Shout out to you guys. Much respect from NZ bros.
The fact that Apolo Ohno knows about Eddy Coan is just amazing. You guys are awesome, this channel is about the only training channel I still watch. The content is just absurd, I love it.
Chad/JTS thank you for conducting/editing/posting this discussion. One of the big takeaways I saw here was akin to what comes up in academic writing when the class asks how long an essay has to be, and the instructor simply states "as long as it has to be." As frustrating and confounding as this response is, guys like Ed, Chad and Max drive the point home that the biggest question isn't what someone else thinks you need but what *you* need, and that comes from years of experimentation and discipline.
that hour flew by way too fast. please do more content with Ed like how to's or something if you have the chance. I could watch him for hours and there's too little of him on UA-cam.
This was a really great interview. I had only heard of Ed Coan. I had no idea he was such a great guy. Thanks again guys for putting great content out there.
Great podcast as usual! I hope you guys had a chance to interview Pyrros Dimas! Even better ...(i am just dreaming) one episode with Pyrros, and a extra bonus episode with Ed and Pyrros...
Fascinating stuff. Ed seems like a pretty humble guy considering he's the Michael Jordan of powerlifting. He doesn't even hesitate to reveal his training methods and secrets; all of this invaluable information for free. Wow.
Love the video guys. It must have been tough sitting there with the greatest powerlifter of all time. He is by far and away my all time favorite and always find time to hear anything he has to say about the sport that discovered him.
"How you apply the simplicity -Einstien" ~Ed Coan 2017... lol Einstien said Everything Should Be Made as Simple as Possible, But Not Simpler which still applies
It's so cool how he looked up to Arnold and met him before he made a name for himself. And years later to have Arnold induct him. Man...I teared up a bit
Speaking about proliferation of knowledge, I can't thank enough the community - Jugg life, Dr. Mike, 3DMJ, for describing the scientific principles of strength training. It's made a difference to thousands of people who lift casually, but want to progress.
I squatted 360 and 320 for 5 reps after 6 months. Than tore my quad (during sprinting) so its not sooooo crazy (still crazy af) however I also weighted like 190 🤣
Oh shoot, Ed has the same problem I have with front squats (biceps cramp up). Singles and doubles are fine, but 3+ reps into a set it feels like I'm going to break something.
Weighed 130 and first time he ever did deadlift he pulled 435, yet he says he went on to learn......learn what? That that is almost impossible except for him
24:00 ... when the GOAT puts his hand on your forearm, you don't move your arm until he takes it off... period.
That's called a big dog move
Was banned from the IPF for watching this
Hhahaha
LOL YES
What I don't understand is how people were banned for attending a seminar Ed gave, but then the USAPL allows Mark Bell to sponsor one of their biggest events - seems awfully hypocritical
lol can someone explain this?
Basically if you attended a seminar by Ed Coan, you were suspended or banned from any IPF events. It was along those lines anyway
Ed is like the dad we all wish we had. It took me till I was 25 to listen to my dad
I soak up wisdom from everyone now a days
DONT EVER STOP MAKING CONTENT LIKE THIS!!!! You guys are the freakin best. Funny, informative, and just a blast to watch. Mad love to JTS

Dammit, Coan is just a national treasure
Always a blessing hearing the GOAT speak. Thanks for bringing him on the show!
That just shows how incredible Coan is that he makes lifters wish they were short and stocky. I learned a lot from watching his instructional videos and listening to his super training stuff. Thanks Ed, you taught me what it means to powerlift.

Talent and an unparalleled work ethic, Ed is the GOAT!
Love that Candito got a shout-out by the GOAT.
Ed Coan is such a great guy! I'm always amazed at how down to earth he is. Superb!
“The definition of genius is taking the complex and making it simple.”
Loved Ed on the powercast now this! I'm in love! GOAT!
3 strong, wise gentlemen! Treating every aspect og lifting with respect!
The fact that Apolo Ohno knows about Eddy Coan is just amazing.
You guys are awesome, this channel is about the only training channel I still watch. The content is just absurd, I love it.
Thanks
Holy fuck.
Love Coan, so humble and so knowledgeable, I'd fucking love to pick his brain.
Chad/JTS thank you for conducting/editing/posting this discussion. closedcontraptions thanknyou
Ed: Everyone knows it or else they would use a stiff bar and show it.
SAVAGE
This is the best interview with Coan on youtube, very good job.
that hour flew by way too fast. please do more content with Ed like how to's or something if you have the chance. I could watch him for hours and there's too little of him on UA-cam.
petr l Super training has a couple with him it's a good series they did
Ed coan is a true legend. Keeps it simple but effective a very wise man indeed.
First time deadlift of 435 at 130 (and stiff-legged) WTF
seriously. That is some insane shit
YungJuve yea #feelsbadman
The Roy Hobbs of powerlifting! 😂
Fantastic guy, the best I ever and yet doesn’t take himself too seriously, very humble ... impressive.
Chad with my favorite Grandma's Boy quote, lol
Those podcasts are really the best. Thanks for the good job!
C DILLIGAF thanks

Once again... amazing. You guys are awesome.
Great podcast as usual! I hope you guys had a chance to interview Pyrros Dimas! Even better ...(i am just dreaming) one episode with Pyrros, and a extra bonus episode with Ed and Pyrros...
24:05 Ah to have the GOATs arm rest on mine.. or to touch the chad...
Great podcast, i wish some more of the oldschool guys like kirk karwoski would come on these kind of podcasts.
Awesome content just sat and literally wrote down notes the whole time.
thank you for this.
Fascinating stuff. Ed seems like a pretty humble guy considering he's the Michael Jordan of powerlifting. He doesn't even hesitate to reveal his training methods and secrets; all of this invaluable information for free. Wow.

Everyone of Ed's interviews or tutorials are awesome! This was a really good one, I've read his book and it was a good read!
Love, Love, Love Ed Coan!!
"How you apply the simplicity -Einstien" ~Ed Coan 2017... lol Einstien said Everything Should Be Made as Simple as Possible, But Not Simpler which still applies
the Hammah no it's changed now lol
been waiting on this one!!!
So fucking stoked to see even the greatest powerlifters of all time get inspired by arnold like the rest of us plebs
You guys are awesome! great content!
Ed: "I maxxed out twice a week until I squatted 500" Chad: "How long did that take?" Ed: "Umm... about a year"
It's so cool how he looked up to Arnold and met him before he made a name for himself. And years later to have Arnold induct him. Man...I teared up a bit
I Fucking Love you Chad Wesley Smith & Max Aita.
Seeing his hand spread out like that next to a phone for comparison is insane, the man has mittens
I don't even powerlift or bodybuild, but I love these Jugg podcasts so much!
Gerhard Symons thanks
Cotton hill reference was hilarious!
HELLLLLLLL YA
dat final pose Ed does for the camera, awesome, haha
Awesome !!!
pure awesomeness!
thanks.
That quote at the end tho. Brought to you by... 😂😂😂
22:52 Ed's prediction came true just a few weeks after the interview :) Dmitry Nasonov just broke 181lbs deadlift record (by about 44lbs).
1105kg total if he´d compete today GOAT
I would have gotten my shoulder dislocated from this slap right here 24:46
A "JuggLife - Mark Rippetoe" would be very interesting lol
Ed: "I broke 7 or 8 records in one meet." Chad: "Well that's pretty good I guess." X'D
Speaking about proliferation of knowledge, I can't thank enough the community - Jugg life, Dr. Mike, 3DMJ, for describing the scientific principles of strength training.
It's made a difference to thousands of people who lift casually, but want to progress.
Thanks
If you watch a lot of footage of Ed you can see that he seems to be an energy-antenna; he draws energy from the goddamn vacuum of space.
The GOATE💎
Great video. Ed's second best skill is remembering people's names. I'm surprised you let Ed wear another companies t shirt on your videos thumbnail.
Let?
Imagine Ed coming round the corner in huge plateus yelling: "Look at me, i'm TALL!"
I think I felt a piece of me die inside when I heard "less than a year" :'(
Well,he was training before he picked up powerlifting + he's real life Goku,so don't feel bad
I squatted 360 and 320 for 5 reps after 6 months. Than tore my quad (during sprinting) so its not sooooo crazy (still crazy af) however I also weighted like 190 🤣
maxes out twice a week in less than a year squats 500, ok thanks ed i go jump from a squat rack
It’s good to know I have the same problem with front squats as Ed Coan 😂 and he turned out ok 😂
48:33 "I just had to open up my hips and put it all in my butt" lol Ed is the man
what about Krzysztof Wierzbicki? he pulled 400 kg and just missed 408.5 kg weighing in at 99.8 kg in the ipf?
Brian M what about it
He might be the only guy to break Coan's record in the IPF, at least any time soon
Ed coan what a legend I would live to have a bear with that guy.
Nicest guy in the strength sports.
Chad looks like bill kazmier
ESP500 except the baby face
mmmyes
When I have to pee in my singlet, I just roll up the leg and let it hang out the bottom of the leg LOL
Dat Intro!!!!!
chad is so cute
can I have a copy of the book?
less than a year to squat 500 lbs as a beginner...
Would love to attend one of Chad or eds seminars. Is there a website with dates of future seminars?
Thanks. This is my next one: store.jtsstrength.com/collections/events/products/2018-juggernaut-performance-summit?variant=6828006604839
How much do you think Ed Coan could total with 6 weeks notice from now?
Phlegm Atic probably about 1800
thats nuts
nobody will crack these lifts stiff bar, especially with no time to recover
I would love to see 2 hr weigh-ins again
Would love to see weigh-outs!
RadBandit: Agreed! I can't think of a single good argument why weigh-outs are not the gold standard, especially for world records.
Jonne Kytölä I agree, but maybe give a small leniency (2-3 lbs)
Oh shoot, Ed has the same problem I have with front squats (biceps cramp up). Singles and doubles are fine, but 3+ reps into a set it feels like I'm going to break something.
I love this intro lol
Please spoof Grandma's Boy for your next set of intros!
Who knew Ed was so predisposed to making dirty hand gestures? .....I like it.
does some1 know where those genes come from ?
Weighed 130 and first time he ever did deadlift he pulled 435, yet he says he went on to learn......learn what? That that is almost impossible except for him
I hope Marissa got a few snaps of Chad and Ed touching fingers lol.
matthew3103 I could listen to ed talking all day. .
more like Juggalo-Life
Ctrl H Why is this funny
does ed set the numbers he wants to hit at the end of a cycle, and then work backwards 12 weeks setting the numbers to peak tge goal set??
More or less, yes.
Ed is built like a dwarf barbarian.
435 first time... At the end of a back workout... I'm fuckin done
Well I squatted 450 less then a year
Auto thumbs up. Falcons will rise again
Lamar Gant doesn't get enough credit. Coan and Gant are Larry Byrd and Michael Jordan of powerlifting!
