I enjoy when you show the building of a project. It’s nice to see when you choose to use a specific tool or product and how it’s used.
That mid-Century Modern style with the canted legs is definitely classy in Walnut! I can't imagine how many conversations and meals will be shared there, with comments and admiration for your hard work and dedication to the Hartzell family. Fantastic work, my friend! Having Sedge for a slave for the day was probably the best part of the delivery!
Thank you Al, I appreciate that. And yes, Sedge being there made it even better.
If I had a Sedge I could make a table like this too! Seriously though really nice job with this. Thanks for sharing your process and it was fun to see the client reaction.
Lol I guys that’s true cause he is kind of a tool 🤣🤣🤣
Nice to have Mr Festool Sedge around.
Her reaction was so subdued! Hope she liked it man! That was a lot of work you did!
She loved it
Great video, I also like how you demonstrated what the festool tools can do!
thanks! glad you found it helpful
Killer job on the table! Keep up the great work
Thank you!
Beautiful. I'm glad to see you put Sedge to work. I can't help but think I can't be an accomplished woodworker because at 61 I still have all my hair!
Lol. About time he did something! 🤣🤣
Nice table and watching your video makes me realize how life is full of opportunities 🙂
Since you don’t do commission builds anymore, I will be happy to make an offer on the astronomical amount of festool you have:). I am now going back to the video. Thanks.
Lol I still build things though. 🤣
I definitely have a man crush on your shop. I’ve seen your older shop tour I think when you were in Georgia and that one was good. This one is AWESOME
Great build Jason! That walnut table is a beauty! 👍👍👏👏😉😉
Thank you!!
Great video Jason what a lovely table💯💚💚💚👍👍
Thank you Ian
I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY to watch this video
really stunning!
I never used C-channel, I like to use sliding dovetail stretchers, which I slide in before the glue-up, thus there is no visible entry of the stretcher from the sides of the table top.
Interesting. I have seen that before and have always wanted to give it a shot.
@@bentswoodworking you can see it on my video: Minimalist Desk or something like that
Great video! thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just order the rode go with your link bc your videos are awesome! Thank You for all the info, from tiny t, to festool brother!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it!!
Slick build! A family heirloom for sure! Well done.
Thank you
Amazing work and great content to boot.
Thank you
Hartzell is one of my favorite vendors. Frank Miller is a close second.
Amazing work, I like how you kept your MFT’s clean with the foam and the moving blanket too😄
Thanks brother!
Great table! Can’t go wrong with walnut. The story behind the build is awesome. They’ll have that piece for generations.
Thank you.
Hi Jason, brilliant job!
Steve
Thanks
That’s some pretty wood nice job
Thanks
Really nice build video - walnut is such a beautiful wood
Thank you and I agree, walnut is beautiful!
That table is beautiful, great work as always and thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Turned out very nice. 👍🏻
Thank you!
That looks great Jason! Thanks for another video that anyone can learn from!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome table...nicely done!
Thank you
Love the build and the story behind it Great Work!
Thank you so much.
Beautiful table!
Used your leveling feet method on a previous table, worked perfectly on uneven floors.
Never thought of using domino for cutting slots to receive Z clips.👍🏽
Thank you. And yes, the domino works great for this.
Hi, which video showed the type of leveling feet and the Domino usage?
Great build and content! Thank you!
Thank you!
God, I wish I had the plans for this table, beautiful finish. Or at least the measurements
Nice table. Yeah, I started using C channel in my panel glue-ups as well. I see it as just a little extra insurance that the top stays flat over time. I know some consider them controversial, but I prefer my chances with using them instead. Also nice cameo with Sedge in there!
Lol yeah, I figured it would be a nice addition
Really nice base design, Jason!
Thank you!
Beautiful!
I swear to god that I thought "Who´s this?" when you showed with your cap!
Great work by the way.
Keep doing this excellent content!
Thank you
Clean looking build Jason. Man these water based conversion varnishes and lacquers that are on the market seem legit! You gotta shoot them but man really nice finish with low VOC
I am very impressed with this finish from Target Coatings.
I am brazilian and i loved your channel and your job. Subscribe and like too. Great shop
Thank you!
Nice inspiring 👏 informative 👏
Glad you found it helpful
beautiful job !
Thanks
Awesome table!
Thank you!!
Great looking table Jason! I really like the simplistic clean look of the base too, I think I’ll have to reverse engineer that for myself
Go for it!! 👍
I’d like to build a similar table. Can you give dimensions for the table top and base?
Wonderful!!
Thank you!!
Who is that handsome guy at the end in the background? Great video
Do you know who else uses Target Coatings? Mike Coffey. He’s the guy who never mentions your podcast on his podcast.
🤣🤣
Perfect
solid build video
Thanks buddy!
Hello. Love your video and thank you for sharing. I had an observation regarding your table base. I'm sure it is trivial, but I wonder why you chose to place the leg stretchers between the legs, held by a couple dominos and glue at the joint, rather than placing the stretchers on top of the legs, thereby allowing the stretchers to distribute weight evenly and keeping any potential splitting of the joint taking place over time through table movement? See time stamp 6:10 in video for reference.
Anyway, this was an absolutely beautiful build and thank you again.
So the end grain isn’t visible. The dominos and glue are more than enough strength. 👍
Nice work. there is nothing wrong with C channel, I use it too. I don't like breadboard ends, and I don't have time for sliding dovetail either. I will stick with C channel for now.
Yeah, not sure why there is so much opposition to them.
Nice build, Jason! For the base, what was your process for the trapezoid base? Did you carefully measure the vertical components of the isosceles trapezoid or did you mark them against the already cut horizontal components perhaps? Making a slab dining table now, and a base like this would work well
Nice table. Have you ever tried actual Mortise and tenons? The are considerably stronger than Dominos. Dominos do help align but do not add a great deal in strength. Every test I have seen show them just slightly stronger than glued butt joints unless you double them up as you did. I know they save a great deal of time and are more than adequate for this project but you should at lease try the Mortise and Tenon joints on a project and see what you think.
I really like the table. Please put the building plans in your store. We will buy
They are in the works!
@@bentswoodworking Any update on the plans? Thanks!
that walnut is absurdly clear
Hartzell’s vener grade walnut is unbelievable
Good job! :)
Thanks
Great video! What Domino tenons did you use? 8x50? Thanks in advance and keep it up! :)
Correct!
Amazing job! It turned out amazing. May I ask why you didnt use Rubio Monocoat?
Wanted something more durable
Beautiful table!! Was this all made from 8/4 or was the table top from 6/4?
Thanks for all your videos and podcasts I enjoy them and alway learn something new. I have watch your video from a couple years ago on the sprayers. From what I can see in this video it would appear that you have a new sprayer; what is it? I presume its an upgrade from what you had when you put out the older video.
I got an Apollo spray system a couple years ago. I added a Fuji gun a little over a year ago. Major difference
Great design and the table turned out great. Making Sanding look sexy? A high goal.Would suggest an easier goal of smiling while sanding LOL. How do you like the dust mitigation / control on your mitersaw setup? Suggest a video on that sometime ... Thanks for the video!
Thank you, and the enclosure I built around the saw does a great job because it stop the dust from going up onto my tools. Not a perfect solution but it’s much better than before.
Ur taking way too many opportunities there 😆 🤣 😂 😹 good work though
Subbed
Ditto to all the 'nice job' comments. Two questions for you.... what is your source for the clamping caul and the C channel? Thank you.
The cauls I made. When I use c channel, which is extremely rare, I get it from Bidwell Wood and Iron
@@bentswoodworking Thanks Jason. I have one more question. I making a dining table for my son using your design. The one I'm making is 8' x 36". Will the base design be 'tippy' with the narrower base at the floor? Was that a consideration in your build? Thanks again.
what the purpose of the sea channels? what do they do?
Help keep the table flat. They are not necessary, but they will help.
How thick is that table? 1”? 1.5”? Thanks!
Wood question. Why a 5 degree angle? I'm asking for an odd reaon; just started screwing around with drawings for the USS Constitutions and the stern post-rudder seem to meet at.. a 5 degree angle! Truly just messing around with plans for a "retirement project" and never did anything but roughing wood; the anngle chosen just intrigued me
I just like the look of the 5 degrees.
Question? You used the home light sprayer in your older videos, but here you used a different gun. Curious about the gun, pressure and tip size that allowed you to spray INSIDE your shop. Thanks for any help you can provide. Your content and videos are great. From one veteran to another thanks for your service but more importantly, thank you so much for providing such great content while serving full time.
hi, like the project! question, did you start with s3s board? or you just pick up any boards and make it s4s
I know this is an older video but I'm trying to work out what you did with the dominos @6:18 - I don't mean the ones you're working on, I mean the ones on the top portion, for the side pieces. Don't they interfere with the ones we can see for the side stretchers?
No, they don't interfere (if I'm understanding your question correctly). The dominos holes you see at the top of the frame are for the stretchers. The table was not designed to look like a traditional apron, this was the clients decision for aesthetics. Hope that answered your question.
The end of the video is why doing commission builds are better than production builds.
Agreed. If I’m being honest, I do miss that part.
I tried to link to buy a pair of c-channels. It responded with a “page not found”. Is there another way to access that company with your link?
May i ask what species of walnut is this ?
did you use 'flat' or 'satin'?
Satin
are the plans for the legs available? great build! Thanks
Hopefully I will have plans for this table on my website soon.
Great project! Are these the Hartzell’s who’s business is in Piqua Ohio? My Grandfather cut tress for that company until he died about 30 years ago.
Yes, it is Hartzell out of Piqua.
Great video Jason. Where did you get that stop for your miter saw station ? I’ve been looking for one just like that
I came to ask same question. I've been meaning to build a flip stop for my miter saw but if I can buy one I'd rather.
Those are flag stops from Festool... Any dealer can get them for you, or you can order them direct through the Festool Service site. They are a part of the MFT fence system, and also used with the Festool Kapex system as well.
It’s just one of the festool flag stops that I modified by cutting off the bottom short tab
I always worry my phone will ring when I’m gluing up a project
What was the thickness on the tabletop?
But how many opportunities did you take 🧐🧐🧐?? J/K. Love the video!
Opportunities for what?
Sedge! So do you mean that you don't joint those faces before glue up? Simply track saw and then table saw and glue up ready no problem?
Correct, and I actually get much better results this way.
And to be clear, I did joint the face of the board, not the edge.
@@bentswoodworking That's for responding. So 1) joint face. 2) plane to open grain 3) wait 2-3 days for movement 4) plane down usable boards to thickness 5) rip straight edge 6) clean up parallel edge 7) glue up?
Why not using Rubio for the finish?? Was it a better smooth finish??
I wanted to use something that was gonna be a little more durable with their children. While Rubio would’ve been a perfectly fine option, it just wouldn’t have been as durable for certain things. If this was just a table for me and my house with no children, then I would be just as comfortable using Rubio. But it’s a lot easier to remove coloring marks on the film forming finish than it is Rubio
Is there a specific reason you didnt use dowels or dominoes etc, if was it just not needed?
I rarely find they are needed on large panel glue ups
Bent, how thick were your boards for the table top before and after the milling process?
5/4 milled to 4/4
Did you joint the faces of the top boards? If not why not? Thanks for the video
I jointed the face yes. I did not joint the edge. I get better results with a track saw on long boards.
Hi , Jason.. I have a question , I love the table.. my question is where did you get the c channel..? Thanks.. have a nice day... mike..
I got it from Bidwell. There is a link to them and a discount code in the video description
Help Where do you order your C channel
Love you stuff man. Beautiful work. Newby question regarding C channels. What is the main purpose of C channels? Just as insurance to keep the panned flat? Thanks for the content. Happy Holidays!
Never mind, I watched your C channel video.
They are to assist with keeping a table top flat but I don’t think they are necessary for most applications.
Sorry for my ignorance… what exactly is the c channel doing in this application?
It assists with keeping the top flat.
been watching many of your videos and really appreciate you putting them together - is there a reason you sprayed this with conversion varnish vs using Rubio mono coat. building an island for my kitchen which will have a walnut top. Would like a smooth satin finish and really not sure what finish to use - thinking of Danish oil and then Waterlox ? any help would be appreciated thanks
Hi, what are you using as a stop block on your miter station? I have the same style in my shop. Great build.
Modified festool flag stops.
Hi, how did you get your domino tenons to align perfectly on the legs with a butt join? I was trying to do an beveled butt join but couldn’t get it to align properly because I couldn’t reference a face so I ended up doing a mitered join instead. Thanks in advance.
I reference the outside of the legs
@@bentswoodworking thank you!!! I’ve been stuck trying to figure that out. Thank you!
What domino bit did you use for those Z clips slots?
4mm
Beautifull table Jason , how do you joint the edges perfectly with a track saw…? thanks for your answer.
Edge/Board
As long as the surface is flat, the track saw will achieve a 90° cut, perfectly straight.
What was the table dimensions?
The legs look to be 2”X4”, and the table top looks standard at 3’X 6’.
C channels (first time seeing them) are to help mitigate tabletop warp?
Correct. Very similar to how breadboard ends are supposed to do the same. I've used them on a couple desk tops, pretty easy to install.
Yes, they are to help keep the top flat over time.
Price?
Shat the heck was sedge doing in Indiana!!
He lives in Indiana.
@@bentswoodworking No way! I thought he was a hard core Boston guy. Crazy. My grandfather lived in Winchester Indiana and we would visit 2 weeks every summer while he was alive. Love the slower pace of life there.
I love your work and your workshop. But you make a technical mistake whlie glueing tabletop boards.
Woodglut has a very large project base.
Very random comment but has anybody ever told you you look extremely young?
Sorry that’s more of a question and comment
No one ever says that to me. The opposite often though 😂
You take a lot of opportunities…
