How to build a dining table that's heavy AF. There’s no getting around it…this was a heavy fu*kin table. The tabletop itself for this white oak monster was built offsite because, well, my shop is too small and this thing was flipping huge. Huge thanks to True Trade Carpentry for the temporary shop space and the muscle! And I wouldn’t have been able to move it by myself anyway due to its odd shape…we even used a forklift to load it into my truck on delivery day. It was a challenge at every turn to move this thing around. And the table base…well, that was no slouch either, it had a ton of glue-ups, weighed in at 140 lbs and was quite awkward to maneuver. But in the end, it was all worth it. The table, although simplistic in its design, fits the space perfectly and should be enjoyed for many years to come. I just hope they don't move anytime soon!

Don't even think about to cut any of the good humor you have on your videos, that and your master skills on furniture make a perfect mix.
Love your videos.....and your lovely cats too!!
Thanks very much, Luis! I greatly appreciate the support and the kind words 😺
It would be hilarious to do an entire video from Jerry's piont of view with him voicing over b-roll as you work.
😂😹 I like the way you think!!
Absolutely love when you post videos. All around amazing woodworker and entertainer. Thanks for this one Keith.
Super appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching and the kind words! 🙌
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I was going to say “pin me daddy”, never have I been pinned by Keith before lol. But I went with something more subtle.
Honestly tho, love some of the tricks and tips I pick up from watching you. Enjoy your day Keith. Much love from Toronto, Ontario.
@@harrison_daniel_studio 😂 Sorry Daniel, but pinning is reserved for sponsors 😜
Keith has found his niche: cats in woodworking videos.
😹 I'm comfortable with that 😜
Stunning work my friend. I love the use for the Medallion. Can't wait for the next video
Thanks a lot! Yeah, those medallions are next level. Thanks for watching!
With such a simple design, it's the execution that is important. And you nailed it. Good job, man.
Go get yourself a massage. You earned it.
Oooooh, a massage…I like the way you think, James! And thanks for the kind words! 👍🏻
great job keith! loved all the detail you shared
Thanks bro! I left all the really cool details on the cutting room floor…I regret that now. Sorry.
Am I the only one confused by the horizontal dominos in the half lap at around 22:20?😂. Beautiful build. What a beast of a table.
Good eye, Joseph! Had to butt join some boards together for that bottom rail 👍
Keith whenever one of your videos pops up, I know it’s going to be a journey of frustration, mistakes, more mistakes, some more mistakes, an innovative way to fix those mistakes, a little bit of Lola, then a beautiful piece of work that reminds me that I still suck at woodworking.
Keep ‘em coming sir!
😂you know him very well. Love this channel for that very reason
THanks Tony! Surprisingly, there were very few mistakes on this one (must have been a fluke 😂), aside from miscalculating the amount of material I needed to buy.
One of the most beautiful things I’ve seen you make. Very big and heavy, but still elegant dimensions. It suits the corner bench very well, adds a nice character to the space
Thanks very much!! 🙏🏻😁
THIS IS A JOB DONE SUPERBLY
Thank you very much!
Beautiful table and base. Unlike most woodworking channels you make real projects and we appreciate it. Thanks
And I greatly appreciate your comment! 🙏🏻. Thank you, Karsten.
You really nailed the perfect custom piece for that space. It is clearly custom and beautiful, but the beauty is in the execution of it not any sort of flashy design. This is just absolutely stunning.
Thank you! It's always tough to keep a design simple, but give it a custom look. Thanks for the comment 🙏
Pipe clamps are a great addition to anybodys shop. Just so freaking versatile.
They're great, but not without limitations.
Unlike my back, your videos never get old. Instructional and entertaining....and what a beautiful table! Thanks for sharing KJ!
😂 Thanks man!
Great to see you back on the Tube again - always love your stuff; quality product, humour and feline assistance. Cheers!
Cheers Michael! Much appreciated 🙏😃
Beautiful work. One day I'm going to make a table for the family to hang out at, and this is a perfect reference! Thanks for sharing the whole process - so many great details in here to learn from.
You are so welcome! Best of luck to you with your table!
Another fantastic build and video. Thank you for the tip about using biscuits under the clamps. I have a large bag of biscuits that are about 22 years old and have kind of swelled from moisture over time. I have almost thrown them away several times. Now I am glad I kept them, thanks to you. I always learn something from you. Thanks Keith.
Thanks David! I have bags of old wooden biscuits, too 😂. I guess the Domino put those out of business for me 😬
Nice job thoroughly showing all the details, even what is entailed in delivery day! Great inspirational video my man
Appreciate it! Thanks David!
Wow!!!! So beautiful. Amazing work Keith!
Thanks Peter! I really appreciate the support and you watching the video 👊🏻
That was an awesome build! I'm designing a white oak table now and learned a lot from this video. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you! Good luck with your build 👍
Great job on this, Keith! Your care and patience really shine through!
Thanks a lot, Brian! I sincerely appreciate that. Cheers! 👊
That was an incredible build. I enjoyed watching all the detail work. You did good.
Thanks very much, Dave! 👍🏻
Impeccable joinery, fenomenal end result!
Cheers!
Thank you very much!
Perfect work as always!
Thank you very much!
Great work, Keith! Beatiful as always!
Glad you like it! Thanks Russ!
Amazing work Keith. The table really fits that space well. Great Job. Always impressed with your skills.
Thank you, Kelly! 🙏🏻🙌🏻
A true master my friend. Love this build!
Too kind! Thank you Christian! 🙏🏻😎
I watch for your builds, but I also enjoy seeing your furry shop buddies.
😺😺🙏🏻
Excellently edited and filmed project and a beautiful table. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into it.
Thank you very much, Rich! I appreciate the comment and you watching the video. Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Keith, I watch ALOT of woodworking video's and I have never seen anyone use the Katz Moses stop the way you did for your angled ends. Very Nice! What an amazing table, using the simple lap joints on such a large scale, and the fit and finish looks great!
Awesome, thank you Michael! I greatly appreciate the kind words. And that actually the first time I've used the stop block that way 😂
Well done! I appreciate the detailed explanation of your work.
Thanks Gordon! Cheers!
Outstanding craftmanship.
Thank you very much! 💪🏻
And again a masterpiece made by Jerry and Lola with a little help from Keith. 😉
Nice table, you build there! 👍 I loved the idea copying the angles from the bench. 😃 Perfect details! 😁
😂🤣 thanks Alexander! And those darn fur balls always get the credit! 😹
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 😹😹👍

Thank you! 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Thank you for your long videos. They are good to watch and I enjoy the blooper that you show and fix. Cats are cool too.
Thanks Glynn! I appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoy the videos! 😸🙌🏻
I'd like to say.. simplicity is a bliss.. but dear lord.. what was simple about this? Thank you Keith.. always very valuable tips and good positive attitude :)
Glad you liked it! Thanks a lot! 🙏👍
Fantastic work! That's one heavy table.
Thanks Jose! 💪🏻😎

Outstanding craftsmanship. I feel like i am learning so much and these videos are instrumental in my education to be a better builder. Thank you for the content.
Glad you like them! I greatly appreciate the kind words - thanks man! 👍
Love the base design. Ive got 1000bf of 9/4 w.o. rift and quartersawn coming out of the kin in a few weeks. This will be my next base. Very cool, thank you.
Whoa!! You’re rich!! 🤑 Sounds like quite a stockpile 🤙🏻
Gorgeous!! Excellent build, entertaining video!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it 🤙🏻🙌🏻
It's perfect for me.that table so one of a kind..
I truely like it..
Thank you very much! Glad you like it 👍

Right on, Joe! Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Amazing job as always! Love it!
Thanks Mike! Always appreciate the kind words 👊
Awesome attention to the detailing in the layouts needed. Great job as always. Slainge
Thanks very much!
Extremely well done! Great video and awesome product
Thanks very much! I really appreciate it 🙌
Another great build Keith. Your attention to detail is amazing. I was sweating when you were doing the glue up on the legs.. would have been an easy mistake to glue both sides of both before the final assembly, but an absolutely devastating error! Glad you thought that through... sure it's not your first time doing a design like that.
Thanks so much, Bob! Yes, the halflap joinery mistake was avoided after building the white oak coffee table last year with a similar joinery method. I knew I wouldn't be able to assemble the base without several glue-ups. Sometimes I do remember how to avoid catastrophic mistakes 😜
Gorgeous piece!
Thank you! Cheers!
I appreciate the effort you put into these pieces
Thanks man! I appreciate it 👍🏻
Nice work! The extra little detail goes along way and avoids a lot of headaches
Agreed! And thank very much! 👍🏻
Another great build
Another great comment 😜. Thanks Kevin!
Keith, it came out so beautifully! I might just borrow this design for my own table
Thanks so much! And i'm sure the design came from someone else, so make it your own! 😜
Man you're such an inspiration to me! Love your attention to detail and how you go to great lengths just to make things as perfect as possible. Makes me challenge myself in my projects! As long as you keep making videos I'll keep watching, have a good one 😁
You rock! Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching my content. Very humbled to hear that I encourage you to challenge yourself. Keep it up!
My wife asked my to build a picnic table as a prop for her dance class. It had to fold up and fit in the back of our suburban. She didn't say it needed to be light. So I built it and it did everything it was supposed to do but for some reason, this batch of ping was super heavy so the picnic table was super heavy. I figured it was just wet and would dry out and get lighter with time. NOPE! 5 years later, it was just as heavy. They called it the amputator and feared it so they gave it back to me and I turned it into a table for my woodworking shop.
A few years ago, I built outdoor bar chairs for my beach house. The pressure treated wood was wet and the chairs were heavy but I figured they'd dry out and lighten up. NOPE! It's been 4 years and each chair weighs probably 50 lbs. The upside is, there are so heavy that nobody moves they far and they haven't been stolen yet.
😂 Sounds like that wood you happen to buy is injected with concrete
Great job. Beautiful base.
Thanks very much! That's very kind of you.
STUNNIG. Great job per usual. Enjoy your craftsmanship and your videos. Keep it up
Thank you so much for watching, Peter!

Another great project and video Keith. So glad you use Willard Brothers in Trenton. My very first big project was the crib that my boys slept in, and I bought the cherry and walnut from them. Love your videos and can't wait till the next one. All the best.
Thanks Doug! Love the boys down at Willard Bros. Always super helpful and a great atmosphere down there.
