How to build a dining table that's heavy AF. There’s no getting around it…this was a heavy fu*kin table. The tabletop itself for this white oak monster was built offsite because, well, my shop is too small and this thing was flipping huge. Huge thanks to True Trade Carpentry for the temporary shop space and the muscle! And I wouldn’t have been able to move it by myself anyway due to its odd shape…we even used a forklift to load it into my truck on delivery day. It was a challenge at every turn to move this thing around. And the table base…well, that was no slouch either, it had a ton of glue-ups, weighed in at 140 lbs and was quite awkward to maneuver. But in the end, it was all worth it. The table, although simplistic in its design, fits the space perfectly and should be enjoyed for many years to come. I just hope they don't move anytime soon!

Keith whenever one of your videos pops up, I know it’s going to be a journey of frustration, mistakes, more mistakes, some more mistakes, an innovative way to fix those mistakes, a little bit of Lola, then a beautiful piece of work that reminds me that I still suck at woodworking.
    Keep ‘em coming sir!

Another fantastic build and video. Thank you for the tip about using biscuits under the clamps. I have a large bag of biscuits that are about 22 years old and have kind of swelled from moisture over time. I have almost thrown them away several times. Now I am glad I kept them, thanks to you. I always learn something from you. Thanks Keith.

Another great build Keith. Your attention to detail is amazing. I was sweating when you were doing the glue up on the legs.. would have been an easy mistake to glue both sides of both before the final assembly, but an absolutely devastating error! Glad you thought that through... sure it's not your first time doing a design like that.

Thanks so much, Bob! Yes, the halflap joinery mistake was avoided after building the white oak coffee table last year with a similar joinery method. I knew I wouldn't be able to assemble the base without several glue-ups. Sometimes I do remember how to avoid catastrophic mistakes 😜

My wife asked my to build a picnic table as a prop for her dance class. It had to fold up and fit in the back of our suburban. She didn't say it needed to be light. So I built it and it did everything it was supposed to do but for some reason, this batch of ping was super heavy so the picnic table was super heavy. I figured it was just wet and would dry out and get lighter with time. NOPE! 5 years later, it was just as heavy. They called it the amputator and feared it so they gave it back to me and I turned it into a table for my woodworking shop.
A few years ago, I built outdoor bar chairs for my beach house. The pressure treated wood was wet and the chairs were heavy but I figured they'd dry out and lighten up. NOPE! It's been 4 years and each chair weighs probably 50 lbs. The upside is, there are so heavy that nobody moves they far and they haven't been stolen yet.
