I have a comprehensive, detailed set of plans for this table for sale on my Etsy page here:
www.etsy.com/listing/1420396329/
Shaker inspired furniture is timeless and classic. I recently designed and built this table out of solid walnut, employing both sliding dovetail and drawbore mortise and tenon joinery. I used a hybrid combination of power tools and hand tools for this build.
I designed this table myself based on a classic shaker style, with tapered legs and a bevel on the underside of the top overhang to give the table a lighter, airier feel. The primary wood is black walnut, while for a secondary wood I used poplar.
The top is held to the frame with clips that allow for seasonal expansion and contraction of the solid wood top. The aprons are joined to the legs with drawbore mortise and tenon joinery. There is a central poplar cross member which is held in place with a sliding dovetail joint.
The table is 72" x 36" with a table-top height of 29" off of the floor.

David.... My e mail address is on my pitiful ancient, soon to be overhauled, web site..
contact me if you like..
PS I finally realized I have not up thumbed and subscribed. Consider that done.
I´m going to be making a very similar table, I´m curious how long it took you to finish this project?
@@nickmagma7745 Good question! This build took me two weekends.
Muy bonito el proceso, ...quizá 2 pulgadas de espesor en el canto del sobre hubiera quedado un poquito mejor, ...o sea para tu próximo proyecto prueba y compara, jeje
you inspire me to have my shed one day for some woodworking diy project man!
Nice to see that Zelensky still has time to work on his woodworking projects on the side
😂
🤣🤣🤣 That explains the underground bunker vibes for the workshop.
@@psuryava 😆
Hahaha, my thoughts
I was expecting a poor man's knockoff, but it was the real thing!
Wow I love your dowel making method. The pencil sharpener is genius!
The intro 'calm down -rage inside' Got me 😂..
🤣
Oh how I loved the “ find my happy place “ when the leg went south. We have all be there. Love and respect for anyone who make the efforts with hand tools.
😂 thanks for the support Stephen!
you didn't say a word and did better at showing how things are done than some of the other guys. bravo my man. it's even funny 😂
Thanks so much Kirby! Glad you liked it :)
Love the use of simple but elegant designs and the mix of power and hand tools! Give an Andy Rawls feel to the video and workmanship! Subbed!
Real joinery !!! No Pocket screws or dominos. I knew someone could still do it. Great Build!!
Thanks so much Patz I'm glad you appreciate the effort!
Oh give it a rest. He uses a drill press and a circular saw. At what point do you draw the line?
Aside from building a beautiful table, your production quality is top notch. Your use of closed captions to provide additional details throughout the project was brilliant and made it that much more enjoyable to watch in my opinion. I hope more woodworkers see this and follow suit. I’m fairly picky when it comes to who I subscribe to, but with absolutely zero hesitation, you just earned one more follower. Excellent job man!
That's great to hear, thank you Cody and welcome to my channel! Really glad you like the format and I appreciate the feedback. I'll try to make more videos in this style in the future, I've only recently started experimenting with it. Cheers!
No routers, no domino's, no epoxy, no noise and no dust. Just good old planing and dowels. I love it.
Thanks for the encouragement Tjerk I’m glad you like my style!
Absolutely magnificent, it will be some family’s heirloom. Incredible craftsmanship, and what a blessing to have access to such sublime wood. He did not lose his temper when the nearly finished leg fell to the floor from the bench.
Wow those are some very kind words, thank you for sharing. I’m so glad you liked the build!
Nice job, thanks for showing the leg drop on the floor. We all have our moments!
Thanks Craig! It pains me to rewatch it 😂
No bells and whistles, just the pure and simple design of shaker style, my favorite ! Thanks for sharing, you're a great inspiration for me !
Thank you so much Colonel, glad you liked the video! Super proud to inspire you!
I absolutely love your style of video - just the woodworking audio and the explanation over Close Captions. It really is the best of both worlds. You have my vote for keeping this style of video! And amazing table too :)
Heck yeah, thanks for the feedback John! I'll try to keep making more videos in this style in the future. Cheers!
Simple and elegant design! I hope you enjoy it for many years to come. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much jc, I will!
It’s refreshing to watch you work. No wall of clamps worth more than all my tools, same lunch box planer I use. It helps folks like me realize we can make beautiful things with what we have. That a $1000 Festool track saw isn’t needed for these kinds of results.
Thanks so much Jeff, it's always tempting to save up and try to buy the expensive stuff, but it's important to question if you REALLY need it... IMO you rarely do, it's just more convenient. You can build an awful lot with an awful little if you are patient enough. Thanks for watching!
@@dkbuilds yeah but how much are those planes worth tho? >.< Just a little jealous.
"Simple", elegant and strong. What a beautiful timeless dining table you've built! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the kind words Andrea, I’m glad you like the table!
Thanks for putting that many details and hints to this video. I love such style in woodworking video.
Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad you liked it! I'll make similar styled videos in the future!
Magnificent! I’m getting ready to build a small hall table from cherry (my first attempt at using quality lumber) using only hand tools. Your video was a big help in determining how I will go about building it. Thanks!
That's awesome Pit! Cherry is a great place to start with hardwoods, it's a joy to work with. Good luck with your build!
It’s a nice change without a voice over it’s so therapeutic to watch. Great build it looks stunning I love the delicate legs it sets it off
That's awesome Bradley I really appreciate the feedback!
I'd be happy if most 'build' videos were like this one. Really well done. Great table too.
Thanks so much James! I’m glad you like the video style, I’ll be making more like this in the future for sure!
Tbh the most impressive part for me is the flattening by hand. You did a great job. Nice clean design, no over the top stuff.
Thanks so much Thanos I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding work. Love the use of so many traditional woodworking principles! 🙂
Thanks so much Matthew, I'm glad you liked it!
Laconic and harmonious. Job well done.
Thanks so much!
Thank you for including the step where we stare at the wood for a long time until it speaks to us!
😆 Thanks Charles! I had to cut out like 15 minutes of footage of me doing just that. It's a critical step!
Good job! The Shaker simplicity has always been a favorite of mine!!
Thanks so much Tim I'm glad you like the build!
I love the simple elegance of that table.
Thanks for the kind words Rob, I'm glad you like it!
Good to show the offset draw boring method when pinning the legs at the mortise and tenon joint. Often misunderstood but good old traditional joinery and it has a purpose. Nice job and outstanding traditional woodworking!
Thanks for the kind words JD! I really appreciate it!
Ha the pencil sharpener was brilliant! I’ve been a professional woodworker for 30 years and I never thought of that. Thanks very well done video.
Thanks Dy, I'm proud to have showed you something new! Thanks for watching
I really appreciated the asmr style while also having narration available via closed captioning - excellent build and great content
Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely make more videos in this style in the future!
Beautiful!!! Very skilled craftmanship and inspirational!!! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for commenting! Cheers!
Beautiful table. Impressed by your clean workshop too!
Thanks so much for the kind words Wolverine!
Nice... very few fasteners an a lotta hand work. Love the simple lines. Love that you are not jabbering all the way through it. Love the bits where you are dropping things and making fun like we all do:)
Thank you for the very kind words! I'm glad you liked it :) I appreciate the comment!
The timing of your video is amazing. Just picked up some Sapele today to make an almost identical table (size is a little shorter, to be determined later) and was making notes about plans and how to build it. It's my first attempt to building a table. Your video is perfect, even the tools you are using are the same as what I am going to use. Bought your plans and looking forward to building this. Thanks!
That's awesome! Thanks kp! I'm excited to hear how your table comes out. If you have any questions about the build or the plans don't hesitate to email me and I'll respond ASAP. Cheers!
Beautiful,hard work and devotion pays
Thanks so much Seth!
Like your style of video production and especially like the table. It is stunning and will be a welcome addition to the room it will live in. Well done!!
Thank you for the kind words Pinta, I'll try to keep making more videos like this one!

I love work. I could watch it all day. 😊
Amazing work. I love seeing talented builders use basic or inexpensive tools. I have a couple Wen machines and they haven't let me down yet.
Thank you so much for the appreciation Jeffrey! I love my Wen drill press, oscillating spindle sander, disk sander, and air filter!
I learned so much in 21 minutes. Awesome video and beautiful table!

Beautiful table! Thoroughly enjoyed watching the entire video!
That's great! Thanks so much Biscuit!
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for making the video!!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Excellent video. I agree with other comments: it's great to see some serious woodworking done without a workshop full of Festool and other expensive tools and machinery.
Thanks so much Peter, I appreciate the comment and the feedback!
The table is very beautiful, great work!

Great video! I wish all woodworking videos were like this

Absolute beautiful table and elegant video. Just started a pair of shaker nightstands. Similar classic Shaker style/shape, much smaller but with a drawer.
Awesome Kevin! Shaker night stands are one of my favorite things to build. Hope yours turn out great!
This was really well done thank you. I enjoyed that you left in your overgluing
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed me leaving that in!

Love your stuff man! Great dedication to hand tools. I bought and learned how to use a rabbit plane bc of you!
That's awesome James! I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Very elegant and timeless design and great execution. Turned out lovely.
I used drawbore halflaps in my last video to join 8 foot 2” walnut boards on end! It’s a magnificent technique!
You rock. Thanks T
That's awesome! I've never done end-to-end joining before, I'll have to check that out!
Love the hockey stick wrap on your mallet. Great job and keep it up.
You must watch a lot of Paul Sellers?
Thanks! I do watch a lot of Paul! I learned the hockey stick wrap trick from Rob Cosman
Elegant and beautiful! Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching and being a subscriber, Jeffrey!
As alway a great pleasure to watch your work. Thank you
Thank you for watching Behzad!
Gotta love screwing something in from the back like you did with the bracers. Youve eyeballed and checked the depth to make sure it wont burst through the face edge but you always give a little rub to make sure afterwards anyway. Heart in mouth.
Haha also with the clips through to the top of the table. Scary every time!
Beautiful job!!! I loved the look on your face when the leg fell over - we've all been there and had tto steam out a couple of dents, buut it's all part of the process. Great style, keep them coming!!
😂 Thanks for the kind words David! Appreciate you watching!
very high quality built! enjoyed watching it!
Thanks so much Max, glad you liked it!
Very, very good!

Heck yeah! Thanks so much UUC, I appreciate the comment and especially the sub! Welcome to my channel :)
Wow, gorgeous!
Thanks Carole!
Great vid. Beautiful table. Would suggest considering finishing both sides of top to help alleviate cold and warm weather stress on unfinished side.
Great tip Jerry! I totally agree. I did actually finish both sides but I don't show finishing the underside on the video. Good catch!

That’s fantastic! Thanks for watching!
beautiful work. Congratulations.
Thank you!!
Great craftsmanship!
Thanks Graham!
Nicely done. Your table was almost identical to one I made a few years ago with the only differences being I turned my legs and I used locally grown air dried walnut with one board resawn and book matched for the top. I wanted to mention that you can buy a japanese saw with the teeth set on only one side so when you cut off dowels you won't scratch the wood These saws are called Kugihiki.
Thanks Lewis, I appreciate the tips! Your table sounds beautiful, I'd love a bookmatched top. Thanks for sharing the name of the saw, I've known I need a flush cut saw for years but now I know exactly what to look for. Cheers!
Great build and excellent video.
Thanks Frank, I appreciate the feedback!
Well done!
