  • How do you train someone to spy? How do you collaborate with other countries on spy education and not lose your own secrets? How are these things consistently accomplished in a dangerously changing world front? Darrell M. Blocker, a 28-year veteran of the CIA’s clandestine service, explores these and other compelling questions and discusses the challenge he faced as chief of all clandestine service operations in sub-Saharan Africa. A recipient of the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, Blocker served as deputy director of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center and chief of the Africa Division.

@Rip VanWinkle yes as you know a lot of info is lost silencing proof if it comes from them we lose our ability to predict the future Wealthy people 'being victims' (many are not) & commodifying victimhood makes it worse The world is dramatically changing & many people are totally unprepared, for themselves, who they are, what their data says about them, not their unfounded covert or public opinions of others We have a mass epidemic of mental illness A legit system of literacy requiring more freedom not less will create a new order

@Rip VanWinkle also as you know strategy is impossible without ethics this is as old as time Without ethics or strategy you are extinct & when you are extinct you cannot strategize or even consider that ethics is lacking Peter Railton proved Halpern wrong at Davos that empathy is as mechanistic as anything else ('empathy is as mechanistic as anything else' is mnhy statement but he basically said the same thing AI/robotics should be ethical = literacy) Halpern is catastrophically deluded when at Davos she said robotics & AI should not be empathetic at all, it sounds bad but she is unstable imo Railton is correct. Bradbury said he would trust a robot more than humans I also agree with him here. The internet as you know is like the street it is a virtual sphere of information science this being said physics understood properly sees that encryption has never existed nothing has ever been hidden it is just outside of our field off perception To engage with & close the classical qm divide a theory of mind that moves beyond the verbal into the reality that all conflict happens whenever anyone is too close or too far away or nonexistent (no one can work if abused at a distance or without a fair fight (Russia) has to continue to emerge passively & responsibly This will end war & prisons & allow anyone the freedom to live as they want The cult of Edward Snowden makes money off of stolen material & complains daily about their privacy while making money being entertainers "everything used to disappear be gone right like the morning dew" - Edward Snowden a Stimson not a yardley he doesn't know he is wrong about dew, we can help him live in total privacy with constantly disappearing data as he wishes His criminal friend Glenn Greenwald also can live in totally privacy with disappearing data on invisible computers that store nothing & hide everything. No need to punish anyone Then you & I & others can develop a system to lift others out of being disenfranchised with new resources & use the data to mutually improve each others theory of mind & more- because we are all disenfranchised, we ll have nothing to lose in our short lives we are all walking computational egalitarian bacteria robotic turds (essentially) ... so yes his point actually has a lot --to unpack, I've thought obsessively about his point since I heard it, he is a brilliant agent/analyst, yup. Lots of calabi yau in this agent

@Rip VanWinkle religion & atheism dont need to be at war anyone who thinks so doesn't understand god or science I dont trust people who think one needs to oust the other The internet is just a sophisticated brain How long do you think you will live with no memory If your enemy deletes your memory what do you do? If god didnt create the internet then who did Please answer these questions if you legitimately are a Christian

    • @quantumfineartsandfossils2152

@Rip VanWinkle no there is always a copy.. otherwise abusers have no one to abuse or data to abuse... they will even keep it around just to abuse you that is what is so banal about untreated mental illnesses that make people abusive but I will seriously consider what you say about writing sci fi ;P Some of us could have written & are writing the greatest sci fi book ever conceived but it is no guarantee even one person will read it sorry to say ... But if things get smarter & smarter & agents come out of the woodwork & interaction happens at scale then art is surely to be produced & lately im creating a lot of art only empiricists can create art because art is not probabilistic but unlike human narratives it creates a real topology and the topology is empirical it can be accessed probabilistically How can you guarantee a book wont be deleted There is no deletion there is retrocausality the Lazarus the resurrection of data eliminates the book to tell the story of the trees Do you know the story of the trees? Are trees deletable? Trees are not simulated if they were they would live forever Maybe the story of the trees is more important than the stories in books carbon dated resurrected as trees (Crispr)

A CIA operative and case officer, I can tell you that during my tours in Iraq, I was offered a position, recruited or in those days 'pocketed" by CIA officers as a soldier. I am really proud to see him 20 years and 20 lbs. later(smile). He is a true patriot.

You know, if you just stop being emotional, and get cerebral, you'll realize that these intelligence agencies are absolutely vital to keeping our country and culture intact. That may sound like dogma but it's a very very big deal. I used to be so biased as I hate injustice etc, but at a certain point one must grow up, and view the world, and corporate economy soberly. As an adult. These are honorable men taking on heavy duty shit, dealing with heavy psychological stress, and likely things even I can't imagine. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss. Yes it is good for your mind to search for truth, but don't attack your own country. Just make it better.

My understanding (such as it is) is that there are different kinds of people used in the field, and among them is a type that scores highly in mythomania. The kind of person whom, if you had any discernment of human nature whatsoever, a single evening over dinner and drinks in a small group setting would leave you with the understanding that nothing that person ever says could really ever be trusted. If they said the sun was shining, you'd bring an umbrella. Such people are useful as cut-outs, I'd think. Such people would be positioned to intercept operative communications and then pass them on to the kind of people who don't talk to anybody but a bottle of bourbon.

About the term "terminate", which he defined as taking someone else life out, he said "I have never seen a CIA person to do that". I stopped watching from that moment, since this guy does not know what he is talking about.
There are many old retired operatives who used to work for the CIA who wrote book about their experience which consisted in terminating people.
    One example here:

When he said “ i’ve never seen someone taken out in an alley and had a bullet put in the back of their head“, I thought of (1). What about in a motorcade? And (2). Bobby Kennedy‘s first statement when told his brother was dead, “did the CIA do it?“

Obviously they can't talk about that, but yeah they do some pretty much 007 action-packed stuff sometimes. Their methodology used to be worse I have to say. In the 60's they had live training undesignated red rooms where they killed innocent foreigners. Well, they probably weren't that innocent, so maybe it's okay? It is true though, they never fail at giving gay names to things that are inherently badass. They probably say "penetrate" instead of terminate.

Yet believes people need to have trust in the cia for it to work. It’s been working or not working however they want to see it without ever having established this. I think for the most part even with the few failed operations and unnecessary killings, it has mostly been positive. The big kink in the armor recently is that in the past couple decades they turned it from a purely security agency to a finance machine that creates and sustains war instead of ending them like it was originally designed. And the American People are catching on!!! We don't need to get rid of all of these well established agencies, but for the sake of citizens and the agencies themselves, we need better checks and balances and to end war with the right leaders. It seems most wars were natural, WWII ends, CIA formed, CIA does great job at conquering the world, then CIA starts creating man-made wars for profit while condemning citizens. That's where we have the problem. We worked everything out, and then it just took a sharp left corrupt turn. Not good because they should have already cleaned up old mess before attempting this strategy. This will end the entire world eventually. They should spend the next 20 years to actively destroy all weapons and diagrams for weapons above 155 mm. And then just manage the finances and technology fairly. Don't know how you get other countries to cooperate though. But I know we have a lot of people employed in even the most unlikely areas as well. The Brazilian military at one point were mostly all informants for the CIA. We should use these somehow to clean up the world, but it definitely isn't easy. Not the CIA fault for a few corrupt individuals over the years as well. It's a hierarchy problem. Honestly the advanced weapons aren't even that bad because most people don't use them, if they would just stop f*cking us financially and find a new way to make money that doesn't hurt everyone, that would be best.

You say that you want high character people then you expect them to compromise that very character as a condition of employment? You ask the high character / honest / principled person to dispense with their values because, supposedly, the ends justify the means. That's called situational ethics and not for nothing but you can either be an ethical person or not. It doesn't depend on the situation.
