Jocko you are one of the most respectful individuals I’ve ever listened to. You have your own stories, your own battles, and you let this gentleman talk like you have never seen war. Thank you.
I had a problem with the story that Jocko told from 1:20 - 5:35 .... Unprofessional on all levels. It is my humble opinion that retired Chief Warrant Officer Roger Hayden and Jocko's unnamed active duty senior chief, at the time of this story, disrespected the integrity of the Chief's Mess by having CWO Hayden dine in their mess. It was extremely arrogant of the active duty Senior Chief (Seal) who, at one point, was confronted by the other Chiefs (non-Seals) aboard the ship about having an officer attend their mess. That this Senior Chief would continue to bring Hayden with him to the mess and then at one point turn it on the other Chiefs in the mess by questioning them in the presence of Hayden was an extremely boorish act. I totally get that the Senior Chief and Roger Hayden were both Seals and both badass, but its such a massive "diss" to the integrity of all Chiefs and their mess that their "badassery" doesn't surpass the significance of the mess and the importance of Chiefs to the Navy. The Navy has three Chief ranks: E-7: Chief Petty Officer, E-8: Senior Chief Petty Officer, E-9: Master Chief Petty Officer. From this story we have learned that Chief Warrant Officer Hayden attained the rank of E-9, Master Chief Petty Officer, the highest of enlisted ranks, before switching over and becoming a Warrant Officer. After becoming a Chief Warrant Officer he became a commissioned officer. Like Jocko said, Commissioned Officers eat in the ward room (the officer's mess /dining area), junior enlisted eat in their assigned mess, and Chief's have their Chief's mess. At some point in Roger Hayden's career, he decided to stop being an enlisted Sailor and become a warrant officer. When he became a Chief Warrant Officer he became a commissioned officer. No one put a gun to Hayden's head to make the switch to the dark side (officer ranks). It was his personal decision. With that choice came certain responsibilities. In his case that switch required that his associations with enlisted Sailors change. Therefore Hayden would be required to eat in the ward room and not the Chief's Mess. This is the problem I have with Roger Hayden eating in the Chief's Mess: Chiefs bridge the gap between officers and enlisted personnel, in that Chiefs act as supervisors, as well as advocates for their Sailors. The Chief's Mess holds great symbolic meaning for everyone (well, almost everyone) in the U.S. Navy. Their mess is where Chiefs go to gain advice from other Chiefs and to communicate to each other on exactly how the orders from officers are to be carried out on the deck as a unified front. So, when Roger Hayden, a commissioned officer, is in the Chief's sacred space it prevented the Chiefs from being open with each other and violated the integrity of what the Chief's mess represents by having an officer in their presence. If you haven't figured it out yet, the Chief's mess is a big deal on naval vessel, a very big deal. Shame on you, Jocko, Roger Hayden, and some unnamed Navy Seal Senior Chief for putting your personal wants above the significance of the Chief's mess and larger naval traditions......... Even legends f**k up. Beside this, you fellas are awesome! Great stories!
Jako I would love to see you do a series of different former enemy fighter that have had to go up against seal teams, for example higher a non military reporter for the broadcast to relax the room, and bring on three former north Vietnamese fighters, a commander to talk about it from a tactical point of view and two grunts to talk about actually fighting them as opponents. And just repeat this again and again with Saddams republican Gaurd, Afghan fighters and so on and so forth I would love to hear it from their point of view it would be a badass pod cast lol like with Comenting on that interview

Who listened to this in one sitting? Like if you did
I had to stop and go back to podcast 37
Boom! Done
I couldn't stop
Currently can't stop watching
Im so fired up to cut my yard right now, its unbelievable ! Peace !
Get after it!
GET IT
Drop that shit
Mow em down! Lol
Don't get too excited and chase down the neighbor on your mower lol.
Jocko your badass i fuckin love your content man
What a great podcast. It's a real privilege to hear Hayden reflect back on his experiences from "BACK IN THE DAY!!!"
Recently lost my high school JROTC instructor. Airborne Ranger, Vietnam vet., absolute fucking legend like so many others. I feel this podcast is sent by him from Beyond. RIP 1SG.
mr. Hayden is back, today is a good day
he says "know what I mean" like a brother.
My pops was a Coms guy in Vietnam (Marines). Thank to all of you and anyone who served. In any theater.
Aye my dad carried a radio in the desert!
Mad Respect to your Dads
This is truly incredible to listen to. I don't know why exactly but I keep coming back to this podcast every year like a clockwork for 3 years now. Usually I listen to podcasts as I'm doing some other tasks, but few minutes into listening to Roger Hayden's stories and I just forget what I was doing and focus up because I don't want to miss a second of this riveting interview. Thanks Mr. Hayden and Jocko :) I'll keep coming back to it and others.
Jocko get Devon Larratt on! Canadian special forces deployed to Iraq like 7 times, one of the arguably greatest arm wrestler of all time and now he is about to box Thor after Eddie hall got hurt would love to hear his stories
Bird shit rock lol. Military dudes always have the funniest names for shit. Reminds me of how in WW2 they called the Japanese “meatballs” because of the rising sun flag.
“Purple Heart lane” in the WWII pacific theatre. Not sure which battle this referred to.
This was awesome! Guests like Hayden make the podcasts that much better. I wish Jocko would bring in more military guys from different branches: tankers, electronic warfare guys and even some cold war era spy dudes.
cold war spies? how many of those do u know😂
@@king1k463 lmao right? Even if he did know them, they ain't coming on any podcast. Tradecraft ain't military.
That PT gear story just helped so many kids sneak back into their house in the morning lol
we need a marine raider on the show!
As a former member of the United States military I say thanks to unsung heroes like Roger Hayden.
So much stories lost in history, it's useful and nice to have these stories tell and shared
My dad was a Vietnam vet that has now passed on so these stories are great to hear and helps paint a picture of what things were like. Thanks for having him on .
God bless
Thank god for people like Mr Janney
Reminds me of my Dad who's was a Marine in Vietnam from 67 to 73. I was in the Army 06 through 10 but I never saw real action but these guys they have and I give them all my love in respect
Does anyone else think Jocko was built in a lab underneath the pentagon? If there is anyone who looks like a navy seal more than him I wouldn’t believe you!
Some other SEAL said his face looks like it was built for a Spartan helmet🤣
@@wheelchazeal8089 i think it was Marcus Luttrell the lone survivor that said that on joe rogans podcast
being an Aussie I wish Roger had said more about working with Aussie and Brit SAS guys but Joko just glossed over it....shame because Roger said they were the best he had worked with...Col.David Hackworth said the same thing
Probably why the Hack lives there
"Yeah, I was just out for a run."
You da man, Jocko! :D
I could listen to hayden tell stories all day
Talking about an ambush..... We had some good times over there.. 😂 Bad men right there! Thank you!
Thank you Gentlemen for all the great knowledge and experience passing down. Its incredible to hear what was going with all those that came before me.
Hes truly an American Hero, "you know what i mean".
Hayden , Meyers , The Frenchman and Dick Thomason ... legendary 👍🏻and epic 👏
Thank you for the honor of letting us hear the story of an American hero such as Roger Hayden! Great chat!
You would think all the steroids would lower Echoes voice..haaa god damn
Jocko you are one of the most respectful individuals I’ve ever listened to. You have your own stories, your own battles, and you let this gentleman talk like you have never seen war. Thank you.
Damn, this guy has an impeccable memory. Respect.
This is the problem I have with Roger Hayden eating in the Chief's Mess:
Chiefs bridge the gap between officers and enlisted personnel, in that Chiefs act as supervisors, as well as advocates for their Sailors.
I posted a similar story above right after your post! Extremely similar!
@@nordan00 Great minds think alike.
I Love the story of Roger fighting the boxer who just got out of jail . Wild hahaha
I think some of these testimonies should be required for American History College Level classes!
Rodger that, but the prof's head would explode.
History is lost in this country now. Sad.
These chicks in my 11th grade history class didn't know who Hilter was.
And just repeat this again and again with Saddams republican Gaurd,
Afghan fighters and so on and so forth
I would love to hear it from their point of view it would be a badass pod cast lol like with Comenting on that interview
I've listened to all the podcasts, and Roger Hayden has been one of the most captivating guests. I watched podcast 77 twice consecutively and hope for a third appearance.

The thumbnail makes it look as if Echo is hiding behind Jocko in fear at Hayden.
Would love jocko to get some ex British SF on. Be a interesting conversation i think. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
@Zzpguy7290 whats the UK gun laws got to do with having a member of its special forces on ? Literally make no sense.
@Zzpguy7290 British soldiers are extremely elite, the parachute regiment, Royal Marines and SF units produce some of the best soldiers on the planet, would definitely get some good stories and conversation out of British soldiers
This guy even says in this very video the British SAS are the best soldiers he ever worked with
@Zzpguy7290 Then how are British soldiers a bad example to have on them 🤣
@Zzpguy7290 wtf are you talking about hahaha 😂
Man They have been through a lot of shit! Thank you Guys For Your service I might not know have of the shit they are talking about but I try to imagine and picture it in my head they’re goin op after op day in day out, the amount of experience these guys have amazing I’m hearing a documentary every time I tune in.
This man is STILL a Warrior, make no mistake about that! And he’s only “touched” on a few simple questions of what he’s experienced as a SEAL and Wartime. I salute you my friend, you’re a rare breed who deserves all our Military has to offer. Thanks Jocko....
You know what I mean, you know. - great dude!
stop complaining
Roger Hayden eats where Roger Hayden wants thats awesome
I hope this guy's grandkids and great grandkids will appreciate that he did this interview
anybody know what kind of car jocko drives ?I swear I saw him driving in North Park SD
Wulfz lair he started victory down here, wouldn't be surprised.
I'm going to take a guess and say Dodge Charger SRT. Seems like a Jocko car
Jocko drives minivans, because he likes their utility and doesn't give a shit about what anyone else thinks about his vehicles. He states as much in more than one podcast.
Nnj
Im over here dyin laughing anytime they talk serious then Roger goes "Anyways"*dickhead, im trying to tell a story*
Thanks for posting these interviews, these dudes are national treasures!
I love it.
"WE ARE THE GODS OF HELL FIRE"
Ian on the Forgotten Weapons site dismantled a Stoner and did some shooting. He had very little recoil He was able to aim effectively while standing. And follow the shots through the sites when prone. A very interesting gun. Knights, KAC, firearms uses that design in developing a new LMG, the LAMG. Again very accurate and stable.
Mr Haydon is an absolut boss respect from Scotland 🏴 🇬🇧
So just 🏴 then
@@arthurmorgan7086 Soldiers in Scotland fight for both flags

Great to hear a little bit about the Aussie Vietnam soldiers. being an Australian I haven’t heard to many stories about them mostly hear about the Americans. Fantastic interview. Great book Ghost Platoon about Aussie soldiers in Nui Dat.
This was the best podcast I’ve ever heard. I’m going through all of your most viewed podcasts and this one was my favorite. Why does it not have more views?
Who gives a crap. This is gold.
I absolutely love mr Hayden and respect him so incredibly much but good lord the man likes to say “and stuff” haha
