- Robert Black Robert Black was a serial killer and child molestor. Black kidnapped, raped and murdered four girls aged between 5 and 11 in a series of killings committed between 1981 and 1986 across the United Kingdom. In our opinion we think he also committed many other horrendous crimes and murders across Europe. He will joining many others in that reserved place in hell. My car broke down when my then ten year old son was in the car. This very nice, kind man offered to take us to a phone box (pre-mobile). When I politely said no thanks he went off his head. Ranting and raving at me about how I had offended him. Did he think that I would get in the car by way of apology and appeasement? I don’t know but I am 100% convinced that had we got in the car that day we would have ended up in a shallow grave

I was sexually abused as a young child by my father and neglected by my mother. I have cptsd and at 55years old am still suffering from the trauma. So much of what you say in your shows I can relate to. I had a breakdown in my twenties after university and spent 10 years locked in a psychiatric asylum. I am now a single mother of two children. My eldest daughter has started university. Yet I suffer from abandonment issues and cannot sustain relationships because of this. I love your show, especially your irony, because you are a natural at explaining exactly what effect both sexual abuse and fear of abandonment have on peoples life. I was told never to have children as I would most likely be an abuser. Thank you for continually pointing out that this is not the case. I worked hard to give both my children an exact opposite childhood to my own. My childhood sexual abuse has had ramifications throughout my life. And surprisingly enough I’ve never hurt of murdered anyone! You are a fantastic speaker with extraordinary insights into childhood trauma and it’s lasting effects. Well done and thank you for your voice.

Honestly child molesters and child killers should be trialed in a different way, have you ever seen the film Lady Vengeance, there's a horrendously upsetting scene of parents listening to a recording of their children begging for them to save them, they are then taken to a back room where the molester is tied to a chair and are given a choice of weapons to use on him. That should be the justice for anyone whose child has been assaulted or killed by these sickos. They are the lowest form of beings.
i was a child of the 40s and 50s and then sexual assault was looked at differently. there were cases where the child was accused of encouraging the perpetrator. thank goodness attitudes have changed.

@@WyattRyeSwayIt was horrible back then, I lived as a child through the 60's and encountered so many of my schoolmates being terribly abused and adults protecting the abusive adults, so much ugliness and cruelty among so many humans...I hope so much there is hell after death, many humans deserve it.
My beautiful mother was sexually abused by her father from very young and for many years, I'm one of 5 and she never once touched us or hit us. She is a fantastic mother 💕

I myself was nearly abducted and was sexually assaulted in a park on my way back from school.i was only 7,he asked me to come with him to his car,I know i wouldn’t be here today if I had of went with him,I sensed I was in danger and I ran after he sexually assaulted me,the thing for me was that I was brought up to respect my elders,being in such a dangerous situation and after being assaulted,I still didn’t want to be disrespectful and say no I didn’t want to get in his car,,I was far too polite so I just turned and ran for my life .Fast forward to now,I’m a Mother of 3 and I raised my children to not have that respect for anyone who they sense are going to harm them,they were taught to shout,swear,hit,bite,punch do whatever they could to get away and that they would never ever be told off afterwards for their behaviour,I hate to think that a child could be abducted just because they were too polite to say NO.

Kitty Genovese was stabbed by a complete stranger, not a boyfriend. Also, he stabbed her, left the scene, and then returned minutes later and stabbed her again. She wound have most likely lived had anyone pulled her into their apartment before the second attack.
And a few people in her apartment building did call the cops when they heard her screams. Unfortunately, the newspapers reported, falsely, that her neighbors ignored her screams. Btw, she was a lesbian and I assume had no boyfriend.

I recently learnt that a truly SHOCKING number of innocent men have been put to death in the USA. As advances in DNA technology are finally identifying serial killers, they are also clearing the names of the men previously convicted for some of their crimes.
I’m against the death penalty for several reasons. It clearly doesn’t work as a deterrent but could it have the opposite effect on a culture? I don’t know but liberal, more ‘gentle’ countries, that believe in rehabilitation & human rights have far lower violent crime rates…🤔

@@cherylmyke1693 A sin is only something that a god does not like ... and not everyone beleives in your god or any god, so we should not make societal decisions based on one supernatural entity's proposed likes or dislikes. Anyway, placing him the general population is a death sentence. Just like with the execution of a certain intinerant preacher we are just washing our hands of it and out-sourcing the deed.

I always thought that being a psychopath must be such a lonely existence, never being able to truly bond with anyone, a mix between an addict and a vampire... always having to look for 'new blood' and never being satisfied, forever wandering in darkness. But maybe that's just because I have a conscience.. serial killers probably enjoy the thrill and think nothing wrong of their abhorrent behaviour.
Not all psychopaths are serial killers. Not all serial killers are psychopaths. The majority of those who exhibit multiple psychopathic traits aren't even criminals, in the legal sense.

One of the main reasons I would NEVER upload photos of my kids, especially when they are young. If my kids wanna take selfies and upload them then that's their choice and I would remind them of who could be viewing them, but I certainly would never personally upload photos of them to be perved over potentially or even worse!!!. Don't give child molesters a free pass on your kids!!

Thank you for standing up for rape victims. I always thought rape was awful etc, but I’d never realised the horrendous effect it has on survivors until my daughter was assaulted 😞 It’s just life changing. So many ramifications all the way down the line.
Im a rape survivor, I suffer from PTSD and am very messed up from it and before I was even raped I was so terrified of it happening that I'd have panic attacks.
But it makes me wonder how it is that so many people are unable to recognize how awful and life changing it is to have someone forcefully use and take possession of your body for their own pleasure. Im not saying that you lack empathy or there's something wrong with you- the way you thought seems to be fairly common.
Also im sorry about your daughter. I hope she finds peace and is able to get better
yeah my daughter was 7 and her dad had her at weekends and he certin stuff but she did not want to go court police said if she not want to cant make her as traumitised enough. but she 14 now and still not want to see him. but thankfully not effect her she quiet enough though and use to be more lively do you find same?
@@clairebyrne1725 I can almost guarantee that it's still affecting her. I haven't seen a single survivor who said that their assault hasn't affected them, or no longer affects them. I would highly suggest getting her into therapy if she isn't already. Being 14 is hard enough without the trauma your daughter has, and the sooner she gets professional help, the better it will be for her. I hope she continues to recover a move past it, but she will likely be affected by it forever, in some capacity.

Claire my daughter was 12 when it came to light her own father was violently molesting her. 2 years later she has had zero contact w the pedo, and yet despite trauma therapy and rx, she is unfortunately still very much suicidal. I implore you to check on your child's mental health-isolation is a warning sign.

I just discovered your channel and love the way you tell these stories. Oh I agree. I think child killers or molesters should be dealt with by a mandatory higher more severe penalty. No parole ever! Castrated + desexed. It's a whole different , disturbing + dark level of crime. when a child is the victim. They re the innocent members of society. It's absolutely heinous.
These poor girls' names and faces are etched on my brain as this happened when I was in Primary School and they formed part of a talk from the local police about saying no to strangers.

Bystander effect story - so I was on a night out when I was about 19. It was about 2 and the pubs were closing, lots of drunk people on the street when I hear screaming. I look over and there's a massive bloke literally kicking kicking his girlfriend's head in and nobody was doing anything. There were big men just stood doing nothing. So me, a small 19 Yr old girl runs over and stands between the two and tell the man that he has to stop. Obviously he didn't and he smashed my head into a chicken shop window. But at this point, other people came over and helped.
Sometimes it just takes one person to go and do something to snap everyone into coming to help.
At the hospital m mum, once giving my hugs and making sure I was ok, berated me for going over and getting involved. She told me that I should ring the police and not give up on the phone until they understand the situation. She said "please don't be a hero, you don't know what situation you are getting yourself into".
Your mum is right, but you clearly have an extremely strong spirit and snapped everyone into action, please don’t ever do that again though 😄❤️
Oh and the bit about not giving up on the phone is so true - I was trying to report a man who had stabbed a woman in the neck with a pen, it was very difficult to get the person to listen, just stay calm and ask another person to explain if they for any reason don’t understand you (I was extremely panicked that day and likely not making sense, so I passed the phone to someone else)

I was 8 in Edinburgh when Caroline Hogg went missing - the sheer terror of that time still stays with me. We all knew about Susan Maxwell's disappearance from Coldstream - it's not that far from relatives we spent our summers with in Chirnside, Berwick. This is by far the most in depth documentary of Robert Black I have ever seen and I found it unpausable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the practical tips to get the attention of bystanders - really interesting human behaviours. Robert Black was "The Bad Man in a White Van" of my Scottish childhood and the relief when he finally had a public face upon arrest was palpable. I remember the shock to me as a kid that he did not look like the obvious monster I had imagined. Great video
The comment you made on “ that’s not my mummy or daddy “ made me think of a story. Apparently I was throwing a tantrum with my dad as a toddler, a police person stopped and asked if everything was okay and was this my daddy? I think said no and continued to cry 🤦🏼♀️ luckily my gran came up the street and sorted it out. My poor dad 😂
What a chilling case. I remember this and it had a big impact on me at the time. A lot of the failures to recognise the terrible path Black was on from childhood were from a naivity of the judicial and mental health professionals of the time, but I do wonder just how many Robert Blacks there are out there now, in spite of our apparently more advanced understanding of serial sexual predators in the 21st century. And thank you Emma for your warning and advice to give to our children to protect them from these monsters that stalk our children.
The most respectable and underrated true crime channel on UA-cam. The amount of forensic psychology I’ve learnt from you from you’re weekly videos compared to hours I’ve watched of “entertainment” style true crime videos which have absolutely no integrity like your videos do. The respect for the victims is all that matters and spreading good moral behaviour and that’s what I learn from you and you’re my new real world role model and I’m so thankful to have found your channel 🏆 ❤️
I remember back in the 90s trying to explain to my small daughter about going off with strangers and some of the things that they might say and she seemed to understand ok.. but then I asked her what would you do if a man that you didn’t know asked if you could come and help him look for his lost puppy… you could tell by the look on her face that she kind of thought this was a trick question, and she said well I would ask him if he had REALLY lost his puppy! Bless her she was only about 4 but it goes to show you have to be really careful to make sure they understand…
Another thing I remember learning regarding children being taught about “stranger danger” is that often a child’s perception of a stranger can be quite different to what our is. A person the child recognises from being out in public (shopkeeper, local person etc) or have had a “friendly” interaction with can make the child believe they don’t fit the profile of being a stranger and hence they can trust them. We are now also aware that sadly children are frequently at risk from this in their close circle.
This week I feel like I am treating myself after a really trying time. I missed last weeks episode so I have that and this to watch. On my laptop, in pyjamas, with hot chocolate. The INSANE amount of money generated per year from the torture, killing and dismemberment of animals for food in the United States alone could feed the entire world for years. There's absolutely no reason or excuse for eating meat in this day and age.

I was vegetarian for the majority of my chidhood and have been vegan for 12 years. I havent ever had any deficiencies, I have actually bloods done a few times throughout the years that have checked so I'm not just saying that based on not having symptoms.
I never stop thinking about a time when I was 12 (about 30 years ago) I was on holiday at Skegness with my family. One night we were all playing at the slot machines but on different machines. I left my mum, dad and brother inside the building and went for a walk out the front. Two men were stood at the back of a white van with the doors open. I could see a rail of clothes inside. They asked me if I wanted a free dress. They said I could climb inside and pick one. I instantly felt uncomfortable and scared. I went back inside to find my mum. I just stayed by her side. I never said anything to anyone and know now I should have but to this day I’m thankful I never climbed inside and pray that no one else did.
Emaa, this was so sickening. I literally felt sick to my stomach.

Thank you so much for your tips on how to be safe, and especially what to teach your children to say if a stranger attempts to take them. Very important knowledge for a very rare but very dangerous situation.
It’s important to remember that child abduction is incredibly rare. Sexual assault is normally committed by a friend relative or teacher. Incidences such as these are incredibly rare
I remember when I first learned about the bystander effect in psychology and I told myself that if I were ever in a situation like that, that I'd report whatever it was even if I felt someone else had because of how shockingly common it is. If you're reading this, always call for help in a serious situation whether you're just an innocent bystander or something like that. Chances are no one else has. You be the person that does.
Also, fantastic advice to teach your children specific things to say. If I ever have a child of my own, they'll 100% be learning that.
Also, lol I definitely believe his apprehension was divine intervention as well. You can't write a more perfect ending. It's a shame that it took so long for this man to be caught but I can't help but think how many more lives were saved that day. I hate that monsters like him exist but in the end, one way or another, in this life or the next, you play with fire, you're going to get burned.
If you are seeking additional help when assisting someone or even seeking help for yourself apparently it is much more effective to make a plea that is specifically directed and personal - “hey you with the blue T-shirt call the police, lady with the pink flower skirt can you get first aid”. It creates more personal accountability for the bystanders plus the power of social pressure and expectations can be used to increase compliance.

I remember as a child, seeing the TV reports of Susie Maxwell. On the day that Susie was found in Uttoxeter, we were driving past on the way to Alton Towers. I remember so vividly that the police had stopped the traffic and cordoned off the area. I would of been 7 at the time. I’ve never forgotten Susie, I’m so glad that her Killer was brought to justice. I love the tips you have given for what to shout if being attacked and what to teach your children to say, i have had my daughter AND my husband riveted by repeating things and views you have stated to the point where they have both subscribed too. I love the work you put into your research and i have watched a lot of true crime youtubers, you are definately our favourite and i cant wait to be able to afford to join your klan :) I am a true crime fanatic and always have been since my teens so 40+ years, i have always explained my fascination as my yearning to know what makes these criminals step over that moral line when i wouldn't
You know it is true about kids being too trusting, when i was 6 there was this dog i used to stroke down the street and one day the guy who owned him said his rat had babies and did i want to go in and see them and i went straight in and walked straight upstairs, id never been in there before and he only vaguely knew my mother, thankfully it was nothing sinister and he did have baby rats but for someone with bad intentions it would just be that easy and it sticks in my head because at that time i was a missing person for 2 hours and i was just lucky the man down the street wasnt a pedophile because i put myself in the most vulnerable position without a second thought and it didnt even occur to me that anyone would be worried about me until i left his house and there were police on the street looking for me. This is why kids need to be supervised because if a child doesnt immediately expect danger they dont evaluate or know how vulnerable the position they are putting themselves in is. Honey, massive hugs to you for getting through this case, I could hear in your voice a few times that certain bits were especially tough emotionally. I know you’re a professional psychologist but I think we need to listen to the listeners too sometimes. It’s one of THE most horrific cases I can think of. Yes, he did have a really brutal childhood. However, for him to then go on and do this, KNOWING from experience what it does to a child, is just....I don’t even have words. ’heinous’ sounds too weak. It’s beyond evil. I completely understand what you mean about wanting to kill child killers. It’s hard to look into some of these minds and actions and NOT find yourself randomly wondering how scaphism works in practice. But like you say - they’re thoughts, they’re rage urges, and only the truly deranged would actually try it. But those wee girls.....man. What they must have gone through is something I can’t bring myself to think about. I’m so glad those wee souls are safe and sound nobody can ever hurt them again but it makes me so sad that they were taken like this and so young, they were babies 😭
This case is why I believe in both nurture and nature. Mine and that animal's backgrounds and early experiences are very very similar. I became naughty until I matured but I've never thought of hurting kids or anyone!.sick bastard wired wrong. Thank you Emma for making it clear it's a tiny percent. This was actually a really hard sentence to write and I found myself re-editing a few times.

Thank you for giving education on how to teach children how to react and what to call to get help. I give my 6 year old girl a lot of education but learned a lot here in your video! It breaks my heart for this children and their families!
As a person diagnosed with a personality disorder and struggled with my own destubutbing behavior, starting at 4 or 5 and developing and paraphalia throughout my life into a adulthood I have to say you never know what child is struggling with I really wish adults could understand. protect, love and care for you children cause you don't what's to to become of then when there older. And sometimes when you repeatability take away the power away from the child, when they grow older they WILL take it back.
Parents also need to be willing to yell out when they realize their child is missing.
A friend was in a store, standing in line with her daughter. The woman took just a moment to answer a text on her phone and noticed her daughter missing. She began looking, turning left and right while standing in line.
Another woman, standing behind her said, “Oh, her dad just came and picked her up. They went that way.” This would be abductor was so smooth, it looked normal.
Immediately, my friend went to the front of the line and demanded they shut every door in the store.
The clerk said, “I’m sorry ma’am. We don’t have that ability.” So Mom yelled in her loudest voice, “ Of you can hear me scream ‘mommy’! You’re allowed to scream! Use your outdoor voice.”
She paced around the area yelling that.
Her daughter was recovered by a security guard at the entrance where the daughter was left.
Witnesses did not get a look at the man but said they watched him put her down as she tried to yell ‘mommy’.
I still get choked up thinking about how close that was.

Bravo Again Lady Kenny! How you educate others makes your programme so much more than Just true crime. As a victim of pedophilia, misinformation made me fear I was bound to become one. And I think even as adults w experience, predators know to Use vulnerabilities like kittens, injuries and oops locked myself out, to lure. Children don't stand a chance w/o educating them. And if it is truly a wiring issue, Nature and nurture can't help so leads me back to culling. These monsters breed more oft than not. Still thankfully we have beautiful people like yourself and others making differences.

The girl who fought back and her boyfriend are my absolute heroes. It’s difficult for me to say his capture was “divine intervention.” Firstly, because it feels disrespectful to the families whose children were never returned home. Secondly, because I had hoped they had made it to rescue the girl unharmed. It is a marvelous story that the neighbor was so vigilante and acted, that the van passed directly by, and the child’s own father was able to cradle her in his arms and end her nightmare. Most of all, thank gawd they removed this subhuman from roaming free. How can one not breathe a sigh of relief to hear of his death, when he handed out death to the most innocent amongst us.

When I watch TV shows or read stories of these crimes, I always wonder about the background influences on their psychological development. Fuck... That was a really tough watch. I can't imagine how difficult that was to cover. As a parent my heart broke watching. Was really interesting though and I was intrigued as to how he'd be caught. I think any parent who watched this will give there kids an extra tight hug xx

A guy exposed himself to me and friends when I was still in High School. I laughed at him and that little worm fell flat. He got out of there so fast.
