I was sexually abused by another child when I was a child, and I never really hear people talk about child on child abuse, so hearing you talk about that, is really appreciated. It’s really affected my life in many ways, and still does, as a 23 year old man. I’m hopefully starting therapy soon.
I don’t ever want to put my pain on anyone else in terms of the abused becoming the abuser.
Thank you for talking about these topics, it means a lot to so many people who experience any kind of abuse, I’m sure. Thank you so much, Emma for giving abused/murdered children a voice ❤️

Hi! I was Joe’s friend at school, we were always sat together in classes because it was alphabetical. A few points, Michael had a list of all year 7’s and he picked what he deemed the weakest apparently. I was on his list. He also tried to burn joe’s body before he dumped it but failed. Joe was the funniest and nicest soul. I remember once in maths he bit through his pen during a test and his mouth filled with ink and we were laughing so much about it. Mrs foley was off for months after he died because she felt guilty and couldn’t cope. I saw him with the letter, he never should have gone. Michael was friends with my best friend at the times brother and he seemed normal. Not popular, but from what I saw not an outcast but again I didn’t know him very well. Joe has a memorial at Gabriel’s with a motorbike statue as he loved motorbikes. His funeral procession came through our school and we all let balloons off. He didn’t deserve any of this, Michael needs to remain in prison.

❤❤ Hey I didn’t know about the motorbike memorial but I love this! I knew Joe too, our dads were friends and we used to go on days out on the bikes with our dads together. The balloons were such a beautiful tribute from St Gab’s on such a sad day 💙. I hope you’re doing well. X

I made a point of remembering this case for the rest of my days when it happened. I live in a neighbouring town & worked in Bury.
I've paused the video at 18 minutes, I'm not sure if I can watch further. My son was the same age as Joe, fresh to secondary school, still finding his feet amongst all the 'big' kids, weighed down by books & bags, wearing what seemed like a giant blazer.
I remember the day Joe was found. I remember it was dark & cold and had begun to snow that evening. I lay on my bed & felt devastated for his family, I felt so upset that he probably would have loved the snow. I felt so upset that he was outside in the freezing cold. The atmosphere across the town was sombre, dark & shocked.
This case was so relatable as a mum, in later years, as I worked in Children's Homes&schools in the area, it became 'real' that potential perpetrators & victims are OUR children every day - my mind explodes at this, I don't want to accept it. I don't work in that field anymore, I can't advocate for potential perpetrators (& lack of professional services) I know that won't sit well.
Joe&his loving family will always be in our thoughts.
And yes Emma, I'M SICK OF SH**** PARENTS TOO! Stop ruining your children's lives!!!

Its always intersting to see how professionals deal with personal issues on a case, but still be able to remain composed and offer a logical rather than overly emotional examination. I was in School with Hamer since I was 5, sat next to him in class, talked with him many times over the years, he wasn’t a bad kid, but terribly imbalanced and horribly bullied.
It’s one of those unfortunate situations where there’s just so many issues coming together to produce that result.
I can’t be mad at him, it was an awful environment for children like him who didn’t fit in anywhere and were ostracised at every turn.
It was a Roman Catholic High school and we should remember to have compassion for all people, its easy to have compassion for Joe as the victim of this crime, but it hard to go deep within and find compassion for those who do wrong, but that is what is asked of us.

well said, you never know you your kids mix with. Some kids are easily led and there is a culture that binge drinking a lot, vandalising, doing drugs is 'cool'. My relative was 18, mixed with a bad group on charity trip of all things, and took drugs and came back from his holiday in a body bag on the plane which his parents had to deal with. He had left public school and had his whole life ahead. When I was 18 I was very conscious of mixing with bad company and I was not afraid to have nothing to do with them. I was also very lucky in someway that I was in a rural location and meeting friends on a regular basis was quite hard as I had no transport. Fortunately I was into horse riding so I was very happy with my friends with horses and all this drug taking, boozing was far too boring for me, when I had my beautiful horses to ride. Now I am artist and community volunteer. Even years later, people I know have taken drugs and have liked it, but I have never taken them and don't know any better, and it is just how Iike it. I have a stubborn personality which helps and I know my journey.

The poor little boy. My heart breaks for his family. Thinking this murderer may be released one day must be so hard and so painful for them. I do however enjoy how you delve into crimes and behaviours of those responsible to give us more understanding. Even though the crimes are heartbreaking it is always interesting to look at why people behave the way they do. Thank you Emma

I remember the Michael Hamer case...so sad, and so many lives ruined. You most definitely ARE The Queen Of Crime. I have watched you on numerous true-life crime documentaries over the years and always appreciated your straight talking of saying it how it is, but telling the facts from both sides. Please don't stop doing this channel!!!

Great video, Ms. Emma! Bless you and your community for having to deal with such a tragic event so close to home. I remember watching documentaries about this case several months back. Any case involving kiddos is heartbreaking, this one hit especially hard. My best friend has 2 daughters and a cousin that all had/have CF. Those girls have had to WARRIORS from the start. Our rural/small town area have been brought much closer together because of those girls.

Was there ever an answer to why that fire alarm rang? I had to question if Hamer would set a fire on school property (knowing his letter had been discussed) in an attempt to cause a distraction so he wouldn’t be detained and could get away with Joe. He seemed somewhat calculating enough judging by how the letter was worded.

My own dad left us at 3yrs old but...NEVER EVER would i take this out on anyone. • @beaulieuonnp593
      @beaulieuonnp593 3 роки тому

Horrible isn't it? I was bullied badly too and I have a lot of anger issues, but I wouldn't kill too but I tend to focus of finding a legitimate channel to deal with my frustration of having put up with it and having had no help, perhaps by volunteering in organisations that clamp down on nasty people or standing up against bullying. We don't really talk about the nasty bullies who bullied Hamer too which should have been tackled right at the beginning. Unfortunately many parents will say 'their kid isn't a bully' no matter how much evidence there is. Many parents will stand up for the victim but many parents will stand up for the bully too, particularly if is their kid. I am glad my nephew is currently being home school to reduce bullying etc from other kids. I have already experienced parents witnesses their toddler hitting other toddlers but saying 'oh it is a phase' and that doesn't help. I was never hit as a toddler and knew it was wrong when I was tiny. Nip it in the bud.

This was a fabulous but sad episode of a terrible tragedy and crime. I loved the energy, anger, frustration and sadness that comes across in this content. It’s clear it is personal. ... but.... please, Emma, don’t say children are immune to COVID-19 - they are not immune. They can still get the virus and can still pass it on to others. My daughter developed MIS-C four weeks after contracting COVID-19. She was nine years old at the time and she was seriously ill for many months.

However, I’m a children’s intensive care nurse and believe me- kids are not immune from c19. Children have died let alone contracted the virus. I feel like this episode is my favorite yet. Emma, I really appreciate how much of yourself and your values that you put out there for your audience to get to know you. These are extremely important conversations about human behaviors and the darker sides of human nature---predators and cluster B's. Cases with children are always so controversial because we want so badly to believe the child didn't know what they were doing...yet...sometimes they do. Sometimes they just don't have a brain wired for empathy and attachment. Maybe they need our help more than anything. I have 2 male friends with NPD and I used to think they were demons, but now I just see how much they suffer and wish there was a way to help (for the sake of society and those around them too).
Love your content so much, and I think you spoke very respectfully and from the heart on this case. Fascinating analysis

Hi, I stumbled on this video because I too was trying to find out if Hamer is still in prison. I don’t know what compelled me to watch it but now I have I couldn’t pass it by without comment. Thank you for telling this story so well! You portrayed Joe so perfectly ❤. I knew Joe, his dad at the time was best friends with my dad (they are still friends to this day although not as close as they once were…that’s what this kind of trauma does to people I guess). Joe was one of the kindest, most positive and resilient people I’ve ever met. To this day I remember how friendly he was with everyone, we used to go on days out with our dads on their motorbikes when we were kids and despite us not being that close because I was slightly older I always felt at ease when I saw him. My dad was one of the first people Tom (Joes dad) called when they realised he was missing and it was me that answered the phone to him. He was calling to ask my dad to go out and help look for Joe. There’s not a single day since, that I don’t think about that conversation, the panic in his voice haunts me.
Anyway, I hope you’re still active on this channel and see this comment because I think you did a great job. Xx

The walking tour and personal connection made this a much more moving video than some the others. I remember hearing from someone from Yorkshire who lived a short distance from Peter Sutcliffe. She spoke about what it was like living in that area while Sutcliffe was on the prowl. It made for a very moving story since it impacted her personally rather than hearing about this from the BBC. The fact that Hamer could simply do his homework, go to sleep, and the next day act as though nothing had happened shows that he was has no conscience.
