  • In this intense episode, Emma Kenny dives into the dark world of Bobby Joe Long, a notorious serial killer and rapist whose reign of terror haunted the streets of Tampa, Florida. Known for his ruthless and unrelenting series of crimes, Long's story is a chilling reminder of the sinister realities that can hide behind an ordinary facade.
Emma Kenny brings her psychological expertise to dissect the mind of Long, exploring his transformation from an unassuming individual to a prolific predator. She examines the factors that may have contributed to his heinous behavior, including his troubled childhood and the head injuries that are often speculated to have played a role in his psychological development.
Delving into the investigation that led to his capture, Emma discusses the groundbreaking techniques used by law enforcement, including the novel use of physical evidence that ultimately brought Long to justice. This episode also pays tribute to the resilience and bravery of his victims, many of whom played a crucial role in his apprehension.
Join Emma for an in-depth analysis of one of Florida's most infamous criminal cases, as she seeks to understand the motivations behind such atrocities and the lessons that can be learned to prevent future tragedies.

USA born n raised, I feel the same way! Keeping inmates on death row the majority of their life is beyond comprehension.. And the tax payers PAY for this! It's ridiculous and such a waste of money that could be better used to fight crime, clean up bad areas, increase police presence and get better training for them. Help serve and uplift people in high crime areas and turn the statistics around for the better.. But, owning and running a prison is big business, and is very profitable for the very top in charge, so they'll never reform the system.
I say if there's no doubt about the person who committed the crime, they serve no longer than 1 year on death row, before execution.
Other countries do theirs within a week or so of sentencing. America let's it's DR prisoners live loooong happy lives behind bars, free to roam, eat, breathe and socialize..
Something their victims can no longer do, because of them, and THAT is no justice at all..

@@allan9603 that's a disturbing fact, and I'm aware. The money could still be used for better purposes but if an inmate keeps filing appeals, the courts usually hear them out. The cost of judges and lawyers and courtroom staff and guards, not to mention testing, and analysis, specialists and so on.. Well, the cost really adds up. Just 1 hearing costs thousands of dollars.
Put it this way, the judicial system in America is corrupt, and broken.
It is in need of an overhaul so large that my kids grandkids still wouldn't see it fully reformed if they began tomorrow. My youngest are 10 and 12.
Add in the fact that DR inmates cost upwards of an additional $90,000 MORE to house, and care for, and the state in the 60 million range annually for inmates alone, and you can really see where the enormous holes (not cracks) in the system truly are..
Until we overhaul and inject a serious change within it, this will be the constant reality that nobody likes.
I'm only saying can you imagine what could possibly be done for the community, the innocent children CPS neglects, the crime rates and increased police forces with delicate and moralistic training could do for this country?
60 million annually.. And that's just ONE STATES NUMBERS for inmates.
But lower crime isn't profitable for the big wigs.. And so, it's been this way forever..😞 and always will..

I like how you integrate the many inputs that contribute to the creation of a sociopath: genetics, trauma, individual and societal. To add another point about consequence / justice system failure: his ex-wife Cindy Brown said that when she went to the hospital, police were there and were aware the BJL had choked and beat her. She begged the police not to arrest him. The police agreed under the condition that she file for divorce within a week. She did and BJL was never arrested. It’s crazy to imagine. Yet in the 1980s, that type of incident flew under the radar more than it does now.

When I moved to Florida, over 20 years ago, I lived around that area of Tampa. Port Richey/New Port Richey is basically attached to Tampa via urban sprawl. I've always been fascinated by abnormal psychology, perhaps because I share some traits with some of these people. Brain injuries, mental illness, abused in some ugly ways as a child. I seem to have gone the opposite direction, though. While I'm interested in this stuff, I ache for the victims and their families. Somehow, I managed to hang on to my humanity. I only recently found your channel and I've been impressed by your presentations so far. Insightful on a level that other people seem to miss. Yet she saved her own backside & stabbed her ex Lady in the back happily whilst doing so. Ty stitched her up and that broke Lee more than anything else, the poor beautiful Eileen.

I LOVE the way you break down the minds of these killers. You are so intelligent, so good at making separate points and tying it all together. You would probably make a great FBI profiler.
Anyway I just found you today and I can't get enough of your way of doing true crime videos. Most people who do these videos about murderers don't have your level of education and experience so instead of diving deep into the psyche of the killer they delve into the background of the victims, working to humanize them, and while they do talk about the killers it's more just their life before they started killing. I love those types of videos too, but I appreciate your criminal profiling too. It's different and I'd like to later look at these cases from both your perspective and then maybe the perspective (I've already kind of done this because I've seen a lot of true crime videos done by other creators whereas I'm just finding you.) Even looking through historical family records, where members have killed or suddenly changed, you find an incident such as, was kicked in the head by a horse; fell from a tree; some type of head trauma. The football and boxer head injuries, soldiers returned from war. The evidence is overwhelming and has been here for many many years. I would love for you to cover an obscure historical case. Any country, just not Jack the ripper lol. They are FASCINATING when you apply modern eyes and logic to them.

    • @angelwings6186
      @angelwings6186 3 роки тому

@crema de la soda I'm at work so literally don't have time to link you the numerous studies, websites, and articles that illustrate the established cause effect correlation of head injuries and the increased risk of aggression and depression in those individuals, among other possible disorders. Also see the suicides of multiple TBI victims from the military and the world of pro sports. Oh, and the neuro society is another good resource. Everything people do, they do for a reason, good or bad. Its just a question of whether or not we have the science yet to understand why.

I absolutely love your channel, your outlook on these sick individuals and give us the research into their lives from childhood on up! I always wondered how a human being could do something so horrible to a poor animal, let alone a human being! My ex-husband is a retired cop and the things that he saw would absolutely amaze me! He never dealt with a serial killer, but he was also a sniper in the Marine Corp. in active duty! What he witnessed there was things that he wouldn’t fully talk about! Thank you for so graciously explaining signs to look for in people, but then there are people that you would never expect like Chris Watts? How was Shannan supposed to know he would kill her and their children? That story confuses me? We know now, but if no one came along he wouldn’t have killed her? If she left him it would of been probably someone else! I’ll have to go back and watch your video on Chris Watts to see if there where signs? If not that would be an excellent video to make! The man everyone loved turned into a monster and murdered his whole family? My ex-husband had an affair and married her! He remained the best father and we didn’t speak but I’m alive?

Hi Emma I guessed 30 mins for the jury so ideas pretty close lol 😂, I hadn’t heard much about this case, very intriguing, but it’s just so disgusting how a lot of law and enforcement are so blazé when it comes these serial killers. How many times have they been pulled over, interviewed,DNA taken but nothing happens they go free to continue their crime spree which only makes the perpetrator more cocky because they got away with it yet again, and in lots of cases for many years, and I’ll never understand the American justice system if your sentenced to death it should be within 12 months not 30 years what a disgrace for those families to bare, thanks again Emma, definitely cannot wait for next week’s episode, love love your work🥰
