- WOOLY TV / JS HYFI Bullseye Review using the FCS2 JS Medium Tri Fin Set.
Today we are going over Occy's new board with JS, the Bullseye. This is Occy's step down to his other model, the Raging Bull. This board is made for more grovelly waves where you need to create your own speed. I am reviewing this board in JS HYFI construction.
I am riding a 5'11" x 20 1/4" x 2 5/8" - 34.7L (I'm 87kg and 6'1").

Love your videos mate! How would you compare the Bullseye with the Black Box 3?
Hi mate
Sorry I somehow missed this question. The Blak Box has now been dropped from the JS line but I think the Bullseye has a bigger range than the Blak Box. I found the Blak Box surfed really well in waist yo shoulder high waves. The Bullseye didn’t mind a little overhead.
looks nice..
Thank you! Cheers!
The Bullseye and the Black Box 3 are both considered step downs. Having rode both, how would you compare the two?
Hey mate, I would say the BB3 is a bit more performance. In the swallow tail it was more loose when pushing into a turn. The Bullseye is however around 1.5-2 litres more so you can ride it shorter. Both boards are good for your very average surf to when the waves get about head high.
Trying to decide between bullseye and dominator2.0, what do you recommend for waist high to overhead punchy beach breaks. Can you point out some differences?
Thanks in advance, love your reviews.
Hi mate
I think the Bullseye has a larger range. The Bullseye felt better in head high waves. The Dom surfed better in the smaller stuff but it’s not a full grovel board either.
@@WoolyTV Thanks for your reply.
@@sudheepbose6212 you’re welcome
@@sudheepbose6212 hope it helps 🤙
@@WoolyTV Definitely . Dom2.0 looked electric under your foot, where as bullseyes had more of a settled feel. Good stuff.
I have a question for you because I am not clear, I weigh 68kg and measure 1.83, my surf level is low-intermediate and I would like to be able to get a better board than the one I currently use, I am using an All merrick 5.11 with 30 liters but I think that more liters would be better for me due to my low level. I usually surf 1-2 meter waves with not very high average power.
I would like to change the table and I would like a JS but I don't know which one can be better adapted to what I am looking for.
Thanks for your videos and your help.
Hi mate, what model Al Merrick are you currently riding?
Where are you surfing?
I have a question for you... I am 6'0, 92kg and I am looking at custom ordering Monsta 2020: 6'0 x 19 x 2 9/16. In your experience with the M20 (both surfing it and in store), do you think 2 9/16 will be too thick for a M20 at 6'0 x 19? Should I request an Easy Rider style 'down rail' or do you think with my weight that I will be fine with a standard 2 9/16 thick M20? Cheers Wolly :)
Hi mate
At 92kg I think that combo will be under volumed for you??
I rode a standard 6'0" Monsta Easy rider today (33L) and that was only just enough volume for me - good 3-4' waves on a reef break.
That has a 2 5/8" rail and its really pinched and doesn't feel 2 5/8" at all. So to answer your question.......I think you should ask for the 2 5/8" Easy rider rail shape. My only concern is that 6'0" x 19" x 2 9/16" will be really low volume for 92kg!! The standard 6'0" M2020 Easy Rider goes really good and enough the its 19 7/8" its still surfs like a full performance board - maybe look at that for an option?
Cheers
Which do you think would be a better board in the chest to 2' overhead rage. This Bullseye or the Xero?
I personally liked the Xero.
What Band/music is in this video? Thanks for another great review.
Thanks mate, I will have to check with Dylan who it is? He is the creative one! I just talk and surf!
Heya Woolly! Are you still most stoked on the Monsta 2020 as your favorite board for the last few years? Do you feel it suits a bigger more powerful & aggressive surfer? Cheers bro
Hi mate
Yes the Monsta 2020 Easy Rider was my fav for 2020. It will def suit a powerful surfer. Just remember it needs a proper wave to get it going as its got more concave and rocker, loves the pocket.
@@WoolyTV Epic!!! I am 6'0, 92kg and thinking of custom ordering a 6'0 x 19 x 2 9/16. It would have the standard M2020 rail, do you think 2 9/16 would be too thick for a M2020 at 6'0 x 19? Should I ask for the Easy Rider 'down rail' while keeping the rest of the dims the same? Or do you think with my weight I will be fine with a standard 2 9/16? Cheers Wolly :)
I know this a few years old but I’m a huge fan of the bullseye it’s my go to board, would you recommend the xero gravity or raging bull as more of a step up please, or is it as simple as if you get on with the bulls eye go with the raging bull
Hi mate
I would go to the Raging Bull as it has a similar DNA to the Bullseye. If you like the Bullseye you should like the Raging Bull 🤙
@@WoolyTV cheers mate appreciated
Sorry one more question can’t seem to get the raging bull here in uk. I ride a 6’4 bullseye 43 litres (im 110kg) i can get an easy rider gravity do I go up to 6’6 45 litres or go down to 42 litres, it’s for better waves up to double over head nothing silly size . Cheers
@@markbrodster go down in the performance board!
@@WoolyTV cheers
@woolytv What are the big differences between this and the black box ? For an older guy who is a decentish surfer would you go this over the black box ? I have a JS red Barron for small waves and this is my step up decent wave board (Uk waters, which are pretty flat waves) or would you go black box? Had a physco nitro last year which I loved
I would go the Bullseye or wait on the new step down that JS is releasing in the next few months that will replace the BB3.
Hey Woolly would this board be suitable for Bali surfing 3-5ft? I’m comfortable surfing around 5 9” to 5 11” around 33-34ltrs and thought bullseye might be ok.
Yes you would but it’s really made for waves waist to shoulder high.
@@WoolyTV cheers Wooly, thanks for the response. Have you still got that 5 11" you tested? If so you interested in selling it?
@@dionchang2862 hi mate. That one is long gone - my brother in-law took a liking to it!
Bullseye or MonstaBox? They fit a similar category. But quite different boards.
I think that depends on what length of board you want to ride, how tall you are, what other boards you have in your quiver and what type of waves you want to surf. If you are looking for a one board quiver then its pretty hard to go past the Monsta Box. Im 6'1" and 87kg so I like to normally surf boards around 6'1" but if I was 5'9" and 90kg then I would lean towards the Bullseye. Hope that helps
Wooly
@@WoolyTV thanks. That does. I like shorter boards. I am 6'0 and 85Kg. I prefer riding boards around 5'10. Was not sold on Occys board. The MonstaBox has the Easy Rider dimensions which means the 5'10 is comparable to 5'9 Bullseye. Saw your review for the MonstaBox swallow and you seemed to like it. This board will sit above my grovel board. I'll basically ride it from waist to probably maybe double overhead.
@@terenceingram7786 Yeah sounds like the MB would be a better option for you. Thats the board I tend to pull out of my car more often than not, for that very reason, I can ride it in smaller junk and still ride it in overhead surf. I only had the one surf on the Bullseye so Im going to give that a lot more water time. I was surprised at how well it went for a first surf, think I will get a lot more out of it with a couple more hours on it.
Wooly
How do you like this board compared to the C.I. Neckbeard 3?
Sorry I have never ridden a NB3!
What kind of fins would you recommend for this board?
Hi mate, FCS Performers or Futures legacy Neutral would both work.
Hi Mate, what do you think performs better?
Js Bullseye or the Hypto Krypto, the shapes are very similar?
Cheers
Hi mate, very different boards. The Bullseye is more of a small wave board where as the Hypto can handle a bit of juice.
If you want to surf waves head high and under I would go the Bullseye.
Hey big Wool, nice review, how about a review of the El Tomo?
It’s coming! Had 2 surfs on it but would like a 3rd before I can give it a proper review. It’s so different to what I’m used to so o need to spend some time on it.
Wooly TV - Surf reviews and tips look forward to it. I have a feeling it may suit back footed surfers.
Board looks good under your feet. You’re riding a 5’11...how tall are you in comparison? Thanks
Hi mate, Im 187cm (just over 6'1")
@@WoolyTV stoked thanks!
hey mate is there a chance you can review the raging bull ?
Hi mate, I have 5 boards loaded up and ready to go now but was thinking of a Raging Bull down the track.
Keen to see the ragging bull epic rivews on this channel 👍
@@WoolyTV Hey there Wooly, great channel mate! Did you ever get a chance to review the Raging Bull?
I still can't find a proper review anywhere
@@leilanikaiawelacuesta7771 Sorry I havent ridden one as yet, I will add it to the list.
The step up and down jargon really is a bit tired. Plus, I haven't a dukes-poo what it means.
Performance - normal short board
Step up - for larger waves usually a min 3" longer
Step down - 1 to 3" shorter than performance board, thicker and wider
Groveller - 4 to 6" shorter than performance board for terrible surf
