- Welcome to the review of the Bullseye by JS Industries!
The Bullseye is a new Occy pro model that is part of a new two board release by JS, the Bullseye is for smaller and average waves, and the other model the Raging Bull is for better and bigger waves.
I have been riding the Bullseye in the stock 5'9 x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2 - 31.3L in PU construction.
I have been riding the Bullseye across a wide range of conditions from 1-2ft shorebreaks and ripbowls, through to 4ft pointbreaks in good conditions and the board has gone pretty well everywhere. Originally I rode the Bullseye as a quad and really struggled with it, while it was quick and had a lot of drive, I could not turn the board. I then put a thruster set in the board, and it was amazing and instantly became one of my favorites!
From www.jsindustries.com
Occy’s new step down, the Bullseye, accentuates all of the small wave features the Raging Bull already has in spades. Ridden 2-3 inches shorter and wider than its big brother, the Bullseye is built to keep you catching a lot of waves and flying down the line when other boards would be struggling.
You’ll enjoy most of the same key design features as the Raging Bull throughout, with its wide point pushed forward and even more foam redistributed under your chest / front foot. Complemented by a flatter entry rocker, these elements work together to get you valuable paddle power and instant acceleration up to wave speed.
Unique to the Bullseye however is a slight vee in the nose, a forgiving addition that lifts the forward rails out of the water in steeper sections and helps to initiate turns with less effort - especially useful in weaker surf. This moves to a moderate single to double concave for extra lift and easy rail-to-rail transitions. Similar to the Raging Bull, the Bullseye’s pulled-in tail and slight curve in the exit rocker lets you hit sections hard whenever possible.
The Bullseye has been fine tuned for Occ since he’s retired (mostly) from competing, but not from surfing. It’s versatile and user-friendly enough to be a daily motivation if you want to be in the water more than ever, keeping you sharp to surf your best, and then jump on a Raging Bull for pumping waves without missing a beat.
In the Bullseye I have been riding a whole bunch of different fins, but really felt the JS thruster set from FCS best complimented the board.

Overview
The FCS II JS fin was designed by world renowned shaper Jason Stevenson (JS Surfboards), and delivers a smooth ride with an emphasis on flow and drive.
“What I like about this fin is just the speed and flow that it has, then if you want to push it a little harder it has the release too. To put it simply, it’s just really reliable”. Jason Stevenson
Tri/Quad (5 fin) set
Ideal Conditions
Open face, down-the-line waves, particularly good in point and reef breaks.
Board Types
Designed to fit the FCS II Fin System.
Performance boards with deep concaves and moderate-to-extreme rocker.
Fin Family
Carver: Find Power. Powerful, drawn-out turns with added hold.
Overall the Bullseye has been a lot of fun to surf, and would be a great board as a daily driver for people who surf local beachbreak conditions.

Thanks to Sam at yousurf_ifilm for the surf footage!
Song courtesy of www.thepassionhifi.com check them out!
Nice paint job!
Ferdinand Arcinue thanks mate!
Keep them coming. Another excellent review.
This looks like a good option for a bigger guy.
Haven't seen any step down shortboards with a round tail. I think it's a great way to reduce the area in the tail and add performance. Just got a pyzel phantom (which I'll be reviewing soon) and am now converted to round tails.
Big Guy Boards Surfboard Review Phantom sounds good! Been really enjoying seeing JF and JJF surfing on them!
@@TheSurfboardGuide I meant to say the ghost (with the round tail)!! What a Muppet.
Big Guy Boards Surfboard Review haha! They are both epic boards and id love to check them out! Be interesting to see how you go with it!
@@TheSurfboardGuide Already love it and only had it in average waves. Looking forward to getting it out in some pumping conditions. Review coming soon....
Looking forward to your JS Raging Bull review. Looks like a similar template and dims to the Ghost.
Keep up the good work mate. Awesome channel.
Big Guy Boards Surfboard Review they claim it’s an all rounder, but I really think it’s a good wave board! The tail on the Ghost is so refined and looks like it wants good waves!
Thx for the review.
Hope you enjoyed!
@@TheSurfboardGuide yes .thx. i only need to see the board under the surfer legs and i understant .can i ask what will be your next reviiew
@@soulsurfer3102 Not sure whats next as I have quite a few lined up, but we need some decent waves to film in. But we've got the Chilli Volume 2, the JS Raging Bull, Tokoro SF3 and also a combined C.I Sampler/Black & White review - we just need waves though!
@@TheSurfboardGuide this is great boards.its going to be intresting.we will wait.good luck
But the payzel phantom".this is what i realy want u test.but u need 3_4 wave.good luck
You were ripping this ep! Board looked good under your feet
Thanks! Waves were fun, and its always nice surfing in boardshorts and a vest!
Hey Craig,
Thanks for the reviews! I find them quite helpful. Sad to hear you're no longer reviewing ...Lost boards. I have a Baby Buggy Round which appears to have a similar range/purpose to the Bullseye. How would you say they compare (I realize you reviewed the Baby Buggy squash, not round)?
Hey!
I may review Lost boards in the future, just aren't connected to them at the moment.
Very similar boards, and surf the very same size /wave range etc...
Hey man! Sick review! It looks very similar to the Christenson's Cafe Racer! How does those 2 compare? And which paddles better? Cheers and keep it up!!
Gabriel Sales hey! They do have a very similar outline, but the Cafe Racer was amazing as a quad, and the Bullseye was amazing as a thruster and horrible as a quad... the Cafe Racer didn’t have volume on it so I don’t know what it was, but I’d say they paddle very much the same... The Bullseye also has a few characteristics of the Hypto in it with volume under chest etc which is awesome!
Looks like a really fun board and even with the round tail looked like it didn't struggle with flatter sections. Have you had any experience with LSD surfboards? Thought the 2 Noa models look interesting but hardly see anyone riding or talking about his shapes.
Jonathan Whitfield hey! Yeah I actually used to ride a lot of LSD’s, but back about 15 years ago.
I saw the Noa model, and I think there’s a new one called the Chlorine that’s just come out and hopefully we can check out! 👌
Hey thanks for the helpful review. Im 43, 180cm tall, about 87-90kgs. Ive been looking at getting one of these, but really not sure of the size of board - Ive been looking at the 6'1, but thinking this might be a bit big now. I dont rip, but I'd say somewhere between intermediate and advanced. What size of this model would you recommend?
NatureBoyNZ hey!
Gees that’s hard, sizing is such a personal thing. I ride quite low volume for my weight...
I’m 5’10.5 and 92kg, I normally try ride a 5’11 x 30L shortboard, so this Bullseye has around 1.3L above my normal shortboard.
I’d probably try add around 1-2 litres above your normal shortboard, and try make sure it isn’t too long. Better than anything, if you can get in a surf shop and pick one up that’s the best you can do! 💪
Thx for the review! How would you compare it to a Lost Quiver Killer? Less range maybe? Have a good one!
Jean-Simon Lamarre hey! I haven’t ridden the quiver killer, but I also haven’t heard great things about it either. The Bullseye would be good for local beach break conditions in the 1-5ft range, so it’s range is pretty good and covers 90% of the waves I would normally surf around home!
Hey thanks for review. Keen to know how you would compare to the hypto?
I have a 5'10 34.4 ltr and now looking at the hifi bullseye, what do you think on sizing and comparison?
I think I spoke to you on Instagram... Haha!
Hi Craig just a quick question
Watched your review on the blakbox and this on the bullseye which do you prefer?
Cheers
Not sure - they both feel good... Maybe the BB...
great review Craig is there a chance you can review the raging bull ?
Hey mate! I had a few, but found the sizing strange and never really got the best waves to surf them in and didn’t get surf footage so I ended up moving along and not reviewing.
They would be an epic travel board if you’re going somewhere with mostly bigger and better surf!
Might post the review without the surf footage... what do you think?
@@TheSurfboardGuide hey i been riding js surfboards the last 15 years i been surfing on the raging bull and is the first js board i didn't like. the board got good speed turning is pretty bad started to surf on LSD surfboards and loving them
@@yarivazoulay6106 I liked this Bullseye, but struggled with the Raging Bull a little - i think it really needed waves 4ft+ to get it going. Luke Short is amazing, he has to be one of the best shapers in the world. If only he'd talk to me...
Thank Craig. Great review! I have a BB3 swallow tail, which I really like. I thought the Bullseye would be a very similar, but I took the plunge with the Bullseye and am really glad I did. Its become my 'daily driver'.. I agree with you about the versatility of the board & the positive attributes of the round tailI. I also think the slightly thicker deck adds stability through chop, without taking away from agility. I started with the FSCII AMs as well - they have felt great, so I haven't changed them. I'm keen to try a Raging Bull. I'm guessing you have already tried one. If you have, how would you compare them for Sydney style beach breaks ?
Roger Pye good combo! While the BB3 would surf similar wave types (2-5ft beachies), the two boards surf very differently! Have you tried it as a quad?
Yeah I have a Raging Bull I’ve surfed once, and it might be too small. I’m ordering a 5’11, and maybe waiting for the Hyfi release in November!
Yep. The JS guys say you should add 2 inches in a Raging Bull. I’ve been eyeing off the Chilli Hot Knife. How would you compare the Bullseye to the Hot Knife?
Roger Pye the Hot Knife is good, a little more high performance and really wants to be surfed, where the Bullseye is pretty cruisey! My Raging Bull is 5’10 x 29 something litres... but it feels small, saying that I’ve only caught 3 waves on it... 😂
@@TheSurfboardGuide Thanks Craig
Roger Pye ✌️
Totally not what I expected. I wonder how it compares to the Raging Bull? So basically a good daily driver for East Coast Oz 👍
Great review as always. Keep them coming.
Hey! Yeah, if you're surfing waves in the 1-5ft range and general local beachbreak conditions, this is a good board!
I've got a 5'10 Raging Bull and had a surf on it and it felt good but maybe a little small, but might get a 5'11, and maybe also a HyFi when they are available next month!
What were you expecting?
Maybe I have the Occy models mixed up. I thought this was for better waves. And the Raging Bull was for small waves. Also being an Occy signature board I was thinking it might be more geared for points and not beachies. PS picking up my new Cab Sav today.
@@terenceingram7786 Yeah, the Raging Bull is the better wave one...
Good luck with the Cab Sav, tell nick I said hi!
Great review, wondering how you would compare or contrast to the modom mod mini?
Hey! They are really different, kind of hard to compare these two.
If i had to compare this to something, it would be the Hypto Krypto!
@@TheSurfboardGuide hey Craig! Love your reviews. I have a hypto and was looking at getting this board as a daily driver ro replace my hypto. How similar are they really? I find the hypto very flat and hard to surf on punchier waves.
@@chevalfou101 Hey! I find the Hytpo works anywhere, but each to their own.
This has a more performance orientated front end (pointy nose - haha), and will probably be good in steeper/suckier waves like you mentioned. Easy to surf, and lots of fun!
@@TheSurfboardGuide thank you so much for the reply. Love your reviews. Always get excited when there is a new one.
Hi Mate, what do you think performs better?
Js Bullseye or the Hypto Krypto, the shapes are very similar?
Cheers
Hey! There’s similarity, but if I had to pick between Tye two I preferred the Hypto out of the two ✌️
What’s your thoughts on the Bullseye vs the BB3 for small surf/grovelling?
Also the Bullseye vs the JS Nitro?
Matthew Jones both very similar in the wave range they surf (2-5ft), so with small surf/groveling they are really much the same. They aren’t amazing in really small surf under waist high when you’d grab a Psycho Nitro or a Flying Pony or something.
Thanks...which one has more of a performance shortboard feel? My Nitro feel pretty flat and fish-like....
@@mjstatic77 hey! The Bullseye had more of a Shortboard feel... I'm riding a Psycho Nitro now and it seems to like to be a 2+1 and treated like a fish...
How’s the rail ?? is it like the raging bull??
Similar, but doesn't drop as low as the Raging Bull. The raging Bull seems to really drop and makes the board feel much smaller under the arm than it actually is.
How’s it compare to the monsta box mate?
Hey mate / they aren’t even in the same league.
The Monstabox is pretty much a performance shortboard, really hard to compare them...
how does it feel diff to bb3
The BB3 feels more like a performance shortboard, just shorter, where this feels like more of an average/small wave board.
Hi would you recommend this board for Bali surfing 3-5ft.
For sure, it’s a great board for anything waist high to overhead. As it gets bigger, even try it as quad ✌️
@@TheSurfboardGuide awesome thanks for the reply. I think it'll have a spot in my quivver 👍
Love the channel and you surf good bro but time to get real about the volume, you seem a tad late on sections sometimes and you working hard for speed/plaining. Just an observation but what do I know.
Hey mate!
I think volume and sizing is a personal preference, everyone to their own...
These are pretty weak waves, but I do prefer lower volume, and I suffer and benefit with the ups and downs of that choice. ✌️
Can u review the evil twin from mayhem cheers
I'd love to, but not really doing Lost boards anymore.. They weren't too interested.
31 LTS, wow! Ok. For a guy who snacks on Macca's maybe a bit more foam.
You should start doing some board reviews champ 👍
@@TheSurfboardGuide I have 50 boards. Which board do you want to know about?
Looks like a Quiver Killer clone.
it's not...
you do realise occy surfs the raging bull instead
Instead?
@@TheSurfboardGuide most of the time he surfs the raging bull for larger waves but the bullseye is a grovler, meaning he surf's it for small shitty waves. but he prefers the raging bull.
@@TheSurfboardGuide bam big brain (and I'm only a kid)
@@TheSurfboardGuide but yes the occ does (sometimes) surf the bullseye
