I just discovered this channel. Your 3D animation and explanation of shoulder prostration and retraction is eye-opening. After just a few slow motion practice swings, I could see and feel how “widening” the swing should work. I instantly had much less left arm bend in my backswing. I never understood how other players could keep their left arm straighter than me until now. I just thought that I didn’t have the flexibility.

The comment you make at 16:00 is a game changer and could probably use it's own video. I've been golfing for 30 years and about a 6 handicap and started struggling with a little over-the-top and this is exactly why. I simply pulled that shoulder down and back at address and kept that feeling and it immediately turned into a tight draw. Feeling that shoulder down and back also forced me to line up more square, which felt too far right, but it wasn't. Another amazing video guys!

I think the reason we don't see the right shoulder in the proper back position is because most older golfers think that the right elbow needs to be tucked which moves the joint forward like they see in Ben Hogan 5 Lessons of Golf. Sometimes what the eyes see is transformed into misconception and not actually what is really happening in the golf swing. First time I've heard someone cover this, thank you!

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  3 роки тому +2

Such a great point. The “transformed into misconception” is a great way to say it. Thanks hen add in all how we all see things a bit differently and it’s inevitable that what we think happens will start deviate from what does happen. Thanks for commenting.

    • @CoIoneIPanic

Dont stop pull hooking. You want a weak slice that 100 yards shorter and equally off line??
A pull hook swing is like an engine that starts but has bad timing. A slice is an engine that just sputters and wont start.
A pull hook can be turned into a draw but a slice never turns into a fade.
One simple drill (holdig a towell under the right armpit) can give a bad pull hooker the feeling of correct timing. There is more correction required of course. But tuning a slice move like that is impossible.
Bottom line is the golf swing PULLS the club through the strike. Allways. Teach a slicer to pull hook is the first step in their rehabilitation.
      😅😅

Wonderful video. Doing what you are showing here is what also produces the sought after full turn back, so that you get your back toward the target as much as your body will allow. That full turn combined with focusing on keeping the right (trail) arm as extended (or unfolded) as possible and the left arm as straight as possible, is what creates a wider arc and more swing speed, more distance, better trajectory, better contact. It definitely takes some extra effort to make that fuller turn back, certainly at my age (80) and you have to concentrate on giving your body time to do it, not rushing the downswing. If you make the turn back doing what you show here, you will also find that your hands at the top of the backswing are straight out behind you, while if you fold the left arm across the chest as your client did initially, your hands will end up trapped too far behind you, making it difficult to get back to the ball correctly. Thank you very much for a super lesson.

Reminiscent of the Golf Channel Swing Expedition episode with Chuck Cook which was one of the best-and simplest- descriptions of the golf swing I’ve ever seen. Rear shoulder over the rear heel, rear shoulder down to the ball, rear shoulder to the target.

this totally helped eliminate getting stuck on the backswing. I always wondered why I couldn't get my trail elbow in front of my trail hip on downswing. it was that adduction piece at setup with takeaway and backswing. a "fake" turn. love it!

@@AthleticMotionGolf I don’t think I’ve even seen many golf tips or videos out there that describe the role of pronating the shoulder blade and reducing the adduction angle. It’s really insightful! I struggled a lot with way over adducting the left shoulder and getting it stuck behind. It even can cause impingement pain issues over time. I just didn’t have a good understanding of what to do to fix it. It makes a lot of sense now to think of how the shoulder blade and collar bone pivots sort of as a whole. That quickly fixed my issues once I realized this. The swing feels much easier now to time and be able to move hands fast into hitting area etc.
this of course relates to the other great video about clubhead speed from a while back on here.

Thanks for video. It has been a game changer for me. Specifically, the importance of the right shoulder turning back (pulling back on the bow). There are 2 more concepts that have significantly changed my swing for the better…the grip and higher hands at top of back swing.

Your videos have been so informative and really clarify & drive home concepts that I've certainly heard of but never truly understood. The deeper "why" for certain motions that my teacher has been telling me to incorporate. Now they make sense

Such an simple concept, well delivered.
I am left handed but play golf right handed. When I am at the driving range, after 50 or so balls, I feel a tendon stress in my left elbow.
Applying your shoulder (roll) technique has helped the golfers elbow.
Nice one guys, keep it going.

I’ve watched so many amg videos and learned so much and definitely improved my swing and my ball striking but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why I tend to go across at the top of my swing and why I get so steep on the down swing. I think this video just showed me why. I haven’t been turning my shoulders enough.

Yep that's me near the end. Right shoulder comes forward and club gets steep. Also noticed most pros have a very high right shoulder on the backswing while my turn is too level. If I don't go steep with a level turn, then the club will go outward and I'd miss the ball completely.

This might be my first comment on youtube. I tried this and it's a game changer. I've always heard about getting shoulder rotation by holding an alignment stick across the shoulders, then mimic your swing. Never once have a heard that I should be pulling my left shoulder (I'm left handed) back during my back swing! Thanks for the thorough breakdown.

Hey guys, this video is so awesome. I’ve worked on using this protraction/retraction pattern in my backswing. But can I ask, what is the feel for this in the downswing? Do you reverse this movement, or do you let the arms lower from that protracted/retracted position? Or is it both? I’d love it if you guys made a video breaking down the answer!
