I'll definitely do a breakdown once I settle on something for a bit. I'm curious how the Nitze cage is going to work for me once I get the RS2. The extra width of the cage puts it a bit over the width capacity of the Ronin-S without offsetting the base plate pretty significantly. We shall see!

Great setup. I use the C70 as well couple things I like are the canon speed booster makes you EF lens not so limited. Batteries for the canon that have a Dtap to power your monitor saves a wieght and space. I had same backpack for year then diched it got one that fits the gear better. What an improvement make feel like hauling half the gear.
I haven't needed the speedbooster yet but might pick it up at some point. Does it actually need to be bolted to the camera or can you take it on and off easily? I have one of those Dtap out batteries for my C70 but need to pickup a battery eliminator, would definitely be nice! I love my Shimoda but curious to hear what you switched to.
I'm over here drooling - but also knowing how much time and effort you've put in to get here I'm stoked for your recent camera upgrade. Also, you've made me love my gh5 that much more after looking at all that weight! Goat legs! Great video dude!

Thanks for sharing this Scott! I'm not sure how similar you could get the movement but you could possibly leave the tripod and use the gimbal to mimic the fluid head movements? would save a fair amount of weight on your back!
Hey, thanks for watching! Cool idea. It wouldn't work well for me as I'm often using the longer lenses on my tripod that aren't possible to balance on the gimbal. Plus the drag you get from a fluid head is just something special :)

Thanks! The right angle HDMI cables I use are these ones amzn.to/3K2SH5A You have to make sure you get the correct orientation of right angle for the way your HDMI ports are setup. They are pretty rigged so less suitable for gimbal work (but still work), but great for handheld. The clamp/cage on my Shinobi is from Nitze amzn.to/3iXjwME Hope that helps!
Great video. I also moved away from the GH5 to the C70, and I'm making equal moves towards heavier kit as a result. I don't regret it at all though - the C70 is such a nice camera. I absolutely love the cinematic look, and it's so easily attainable through the NDs and DGO. The GH5 was super sharp, but I don't miss that at all considering the artefacts that could occur as a result of the super sharp sensor. Can't beat a purpose-built camera. Glad you're enjoying it, and loved seeing what was inside your bag too.
@@ScottBell absolutely - got a shoot next week for three days, and I'm taking the GH5s... I just don't know it well enough yet... it's just like being a pilot with a plane, I guess, we need those hours!
People tend to forget that the look of you image depends more on the lens than on the camera. Ive shot a clip on gh5S with Zeiss lenses from the 50s it looks as cinematic as it can.
Really surprised when you said the C70 wasn't as sharp as the GH5. I guess the faster frame rates, better AF, and better low-light performance was worth trading a lighter kit and the sharper image.
I've chatted with some other C70 owners and some people tout this as a selling point of cinema cameras. Which I agree with to a degree. I always threw a promist filter on my GH5 to cut the digital sharpness of it. I'm just finding that a 100% 4k image on a 1080p timeline doesn't look quite as good as I'd like. That said, the 4k120fps is super critical for me doing bike stuff. Anything beyond 4k60 on the GH5 was pretty bad looking and always hated having to use it in my films, but for a lot of biking stuff, you really need 120 to properly slow down the motion. The lowlight performance of the C70 is EPIC, definitely stoked on that.
That kit is big. I've seen a lot of outdoor video makers upgrading their camera to a bigger and slower to set up, only to drop their overall production quality. That extra bit depth or that slo mo in 4k instead of hd, can cost you in creativity, number of shots you re capturing... be carefull. I've made the choice to keep it as small as possible and not upgrade to a bigger sensor. There are so many great m43 prime lenses that weight nothing is crazy like the laowa 7.5, lumix 15mm, oly 45mm, olympus 75mm... Well.. enough talking my next buy is a ronin rs2... My ronin-m is still serving me great but id be happy to save a kilogram
So I have both an f/2.8 and an f/4 70-200 lens and lately I have been using the f/4 WAY more than the bigger one and honestly, I haven’t seen much of a difference. That could save a ton of weight right there! Also switching from the Mavic 2 Pro to the Air 2S would be a pretty big weight/size saver with as good or better IQ. But obviously that stuff cost money... I also personally decided to get an FX3/A7sIII setup as an upgrade to my GH5/GH5s/G9 setup, so that route is a lot smaller inherently than a C70. I held one and it was just a bit too much for me personally, but I agree that it has beautiful image quality!
Thanks for watching. I don't think the f4 version would allow enough light in the dark forests I work in. I'm almost always at f2.8 to keep my ISO at 800. But yeah, that would reduce the load. I'm curious about the Air 2S, I haven't looked at any footage from it yet. I debated a lot about going Canon or Sony with this switch and in the end chose Canon for now. I think in the long run as I continue to grow my production company I'll likely have a Canon setup and a Sony setup so I can pick the best tool for the job and have more equipment for the future team I'd like to be able to hire.
@@ScottBell Yup, totally makes sense! I'm still rolling a Canon R5/R6 system for stills with my Sony system for video so I'm already in the 'different batteries different lenses' boat here, which isn't great but it works!
Thank you so much for the gear list! I can only imagine how heavy that is. Do you have plans to use a raven eye with the RS2 on the cable cam? It probably doesn’t have enough range before losing connection to your phone at the extreme ends BUT I was thinking it could potentially work for shorter cables.
Cheers, thanks for watching. I didn't pick up the Raven Eye as I don't think it will be useful for me. With the cable cam you'd definitely have to pull focus manually and I think I'd go with a Tilta remote follow focus if I needed to.

Have you replaced the tokina 11-16? If so with what, if not what would you replace it with for mainly mtb style shooting? I currently have a sigma 18-35
I've pretty much stopped using it after picking up the Canon RF 15-35. It doesn't give me the wideness I'd like in all situations but the Tokina just looks so bad haha.
How was the switch from a camera with ibis to a camera with no ibis? I had the GH5 and last year I got the Bmpcc6K...man it's hard to get steady shots. I also use the RS2.

Hey, thanks for watching. Glad to hear you tried out the cable cam! A lesson I learned a few weeks ago. Make sure your braking system is good - bent my Ronin S arm and had to replace it due to way too much speed on a line I setup. That said, when I'm doing cable stuff I have a secondary bag that is just a hiking backpack. I put a pelican inside it with my remote control/monitoring stuff, the rope/other rigging, and strap the cable cart to the outside of the bag. Not pretty but gets the gear where it needs to go. I have to do two trips or have someone else carry it in.
@@ScottBell hahaha I learned the braking lesson first shoot out. Was using the bag + a couple sweaters to slow it down and forgot to reset it after a run, totally ejected the gimbal as soon as it hit the bags. Fortunately everything seemed alright, pretty scary for sure. Would be interesting to see someone rig up some sort of remote braking system with a Bluetooth receiver + a solenoid and an old MTB brake, but I feel like there’s likely more practical solutions out there!
@@intuitioncinema5048 Glad your gear was safe! At this point I'm just going to get through this year with this DIY rig then invest in a proper rig from Highsight. You set end points on your line and the cart will automatically ramp down to a stop. They are pricey $10k CAD after taxes and such, but with the number of cables I end up doing in every video, it will soon pay for itself.

When using the 11-16 with GH5 or G85 do you get some wobbling on the image? I just got the lens used for the first time and saw something when using the G85. I haven’t tried it on my GH5 yet
Yes, you'll get that if you have the in-body stabilization turned on, particularly if you are on the wider end of it's focal lengths. Only way to avoid it is to turn off the stabilization or ensure your movements are very gentle if you are keeping the stabilizer on.
Hey Caleb, right now I'm using the Smallrig 1961. I also have a Nitze Stingray I might try. It is more comfortable but also a lot bigger so not sure how it'll work for me with trying to keep my gear minimal.
@@calebstasko I like the feel of the stock one but they kind messed up not adding any mounting points aside from the cold shoe. Overall I'm happy with the Smallrig handle, just need to work out the balance of the rig a bit more.
I don't think f4 would work for me in most situations, but I should give it a try. I think the forests are a bit too dark. That said the C70 can handle lower light a lot better than the GH5.
@@ScottBell Yes I also wish it was closer to 2.0. But on the GH5 with Metabones speedbooster you get a 2.8 lens 😊 The thing I really like is the focal range from 24-105, which covers a lot at a distance so you don’t get too close to the talent. I also have the Sigma 18-35, which is sometimes too wide for me and I think the 24-105 sometimes is easier to pull focus. I just got the canon 70-200 2.8 II which I really want to test out soon 😊 what would you say the best use/situation is of the 70-200 on the GH5?
@@Nqrgaard I think it really depends on what you are shooting but I like to use it for shots when I want to make the background look large in relation to the subject. For example, a mountain behind my subject will look tiny on a 24mm or something but with a 200mm and backing really far away the compression makes it look huge. Or I'll use it to create interesting out-of-focus framing around my subject with foliage or other foreground elements.

I've used it for a few weeks on a project. I don't think it really compares to the Shimoda. The Action x70 is a 70L bag.
