    The Live in Rio version of this song from 1985 is epic as you have over 250,000 Portuguese speaking Brazilians singing to Freddie in perfect English. Nobody could interact with a crowd better than Freddie, simply the GOAT

    Freddie wrote this song for Mary,his long-time girlfriend and confidante. Freddie was devoted to he emotionally, after his passing she is the keeper of his estate.

      Not true. According to Freddie himself, there was nothing personal about that song, that he made it up.

    • @ChristopherStendeck
      @ChristopherStendeck 16 днів тому +2

      @@Lisa-qm8qd Do you have a source for this? I can't find any interview in which Freddie says such a thing. The closest I can get is a couple of articles that mention that their former manager John Reid suspected it was written for David Minns, the man Freddie had started seeing behind Mary's back at the time he wrote this in 1975. If Freddie had said this himself, surely this would supercede this second-hand suspicion? Even the official website states it was dedicated to Mary. I really don't think anything otherwise is known for sure.

    • @Lisa-qm8qd
      @Lisa-qm8qd 16 днів тому +1

      @Ozzpot if youtube would let me share an image I would. It was interview he did years ago for a paper or magazine. I understand people push this narrative about Mary, I don't understand why unless it's just to take away from the fact he was gay. The movie made it worst.

    • @Lisa-qm8qd
      @Lisa-qm8qd 16 днів тому +3

      @Ozzpot I tried to share the link but it keeps disappearing... I can post the quote though....
      "I suppose I do write a lot of sad songs, but that doesn't mean I feel that way myself. I really enjoy writing those songs but, again, there isn't necessarily any connexion between the music and my life. Love of My Life, for instance, I simply made up. There's nothing personal about it. Am I making sense? What I mean is, writing those sad songs makes me happy. To me, they're fun, so it all fits in. I just happen to like that kind of music."

      Growing up i had quite often listened to the "King Biscuit Flower Hour" , "The Midnight Special" with Wolfman Jack and yes of course The American Bandstand. Some of the music that i listened to was described to me by friends as somewhat "Eclectic" even back then.
      "Muddy Waters" , "The Greatful Dead" , "Electric Light Orchestra" "Pink Floyd" , "Yes" , "Emerson Lake and Palmer" , "Queen" to name a few were among my record collection

    "These are the Days of our Lives" Official video is a must. It has every Queen fan crying as it was the last time he appeared on camera. I first saw it the day after he died. Still brings a tear to my eye even now after 33 years 😢 😪

      I will always remember the day he died. I was a teenager going to art class of all things when a classmate told me. Came home and turned on MTV and they ran Queen videos back to back for hours, that was how i spent that day in deep sadness. Today i am still sad but also happy that he and Queen left us so much that we can listen to the end of our days and i will.

    Beautiful Stacey with another great review. I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I love seeing Stacey getting emotional over Freddie’s performances. It shows what a legend he was and how he could move people. A conductor yes, but he was also “A Musical Prostitute my dear” by his own admission.
    R.I.P. Freddie. The legend will always live on ❤

    This will ALWAYS be my very favourite concert of all time, I first watched it as a kid when my dad bought me the VHS for my birthday when it first came out, and I played it TO DEATH. I bought it again on DVD when they released it for the anniversary and it was an amazing feeling to get to experience it again after so many years. The highlight for me has to be their performance of Radio Gaga ... watching the crowd clapping along to the chorus will ALWAYS give me goosebumps.

    The control Freddie Mercury had over his voice is matched only by Brian May's control of the strings. Both masters.
    Also, the guitarist Brian May does one hell of a job when he sang this for Freddie's mom in the audience. His voice is great.

    I have been very fortunate to see Queen many times, especially during the mid-1970s. Besides the great show from Freddy, Brian May is an unsung hero of the band. He does not get that much in publicity but definitely recognizable in his contributions as well as John Deacon. Brian May, when he did a guitar solo in concert is so gracious to the audience in which he always thanks the audience while he's doing his solo. Many times, while he's playing and everyone's going crazy, he just bows his head and says thank you so much. As a physicist such as Brian, his contributions are far beyond music. There was an article or story that I heard. I believe where his mentor for astronomy lost the home he was living in and Brian May purchased the home as I understand and the astronomer lived there till his final days.
    I recommend that you seek music from Brian May in which she does sing. He has one of the best voices in the industry as well.

    I love this song. The live version are phenomenal but the original studio version from the Night of the Opera album is stunning. I saw Queen live with Adam Lambert about 5 or 6 years ago. For this song, Brian came out onto the stage by himself and he played and sang the song by himself. At the end, Freddie was played on the big screen right next Brian and he smiled and nodded to his old friend. So sad but such a wonderful moment

    LOML was on A Night at the Opera album in 75, the next album A day at the Races (feat. Somebody to Love) had a song called "You take my breath away". The guitar is substituted for a piano but the feel of the song is similar and Freddie's voice is incredible as usual.

    Stacey
    Brian May is now Dr. Brian May, Ph.D. in Astrophysics. All original members of Queen were students at certain colleges in the UK. They put their studies on hold when Queen became well-known. During a break from touring, Brian went back to school to finish his studies. In order of getting his doctorate, Brian completed his thesis.
    Freddie was in graphic design, I think. Roger Taylor studied Dentistry. Retired Bassist, John "Deacy" Deacon studied Electronics Engineering. John actually built an amp for Brian May. It is called Deacy Amp. There was a company manufactured versions of Deacy Amps.
    Freddie, still this day is missed by everyone!

      I met Brian in passing here in Rochester, NY, many years ago. He flew here to buy a special guitar a local store had. He was standing alone, there. I asked him what he was up to, Brian chuckled and told me he was finishing his doctorate in astrophysics. Just a very nice and smart man. He went up on stage with the guitar, plugged it into an amp, and just ripped up there. Filling the place with incredible guitar playing.

    Interesting what you said about missing Freddie (and Brian). I was 19 when he died and had been a Queen fan for a long time; not fanatical at all, but definitely a fan of their music. However, I remember exactly where I was when my brother told me (showed me the front of a newspaper actually) that he'd died and in the years since I do genuinely feel that I 'miss' him, even though I can't really quantify what I mean by that. Obviously artists die all the time but this unusual, shy, flamboyant, funny yet serious powerhouse of talent somehow left a small hole in a part of my life. It's a curious thing. Now, all these years later, it's magical to see him perform again and new fans emerge.

My Mellancholy blues, Jealousy, She makes me ( Brian on vocals, and the song has a "suffocation sensation" that is great), In the lap of the gods revisited, Leaving home ain´t easy ( Brian on vocals), Life is real, Las palabras de amor, One year of love ( includes a saxophone solo), Don´t try so hard, Bijou ( instrumental with a "vocal solo"), and overall these 2 masterpieces: A winter´s tale , and "You take my breath away".

    Many artists, even great ones, seemingly have a self consciousness about their voice/instrument, that they try to technically pull everything off amazingly. And they usually do. Freddie is like those few that totally commit to the act. Throw themselves into the deep end and just somehow swan themselves in perfect figure 8s, burning bright, and overshadowing us all with warmth.

    This song is incredibly different from the studio version. Brian adapted it for the live shows. It really came into it's own when Queen toured South America in the early 80's, in the days before playing stadiums was a thing.. The band were worried about the language barrier and filling a stadium. Imagine their surprise when they sold out every stadium and the people knew all the words to every song. They had also taken Love of my life to their hearts. There is footage online from 1981 or 82, in Sao Paulo I believe, of Love of my life, Freddie barely sings a word as the crowd sing it loudly and full of passion. Freddie is clearly moved and surprised. A beautiful song dedicated to Mary Austin.
    These days Brian sings this and our dear Freddie joins him virtually on the big screen, also worth watching

    I feel blessed and honoured to have seen this man and this band live. I saw them at St. James Park in Newcastle in the 80s. However, much earlier, when I was just 15 or so, my family moved abroad and I earned money babysitting for the other English families also abroad in the same place - there were quite a few. One couple, for whom I did the most work, had every record made by queen up to that point (1982/1983) - Yes now you can calculate my age. This was long before the days of internet or mobile phones, no CDs or MP3s and a TV in a language I didn’t really speak. So I turned to their record collection and found Queen, starting with A Day at the Races, and as a hardened AC/DC fan, I fell in love.
    Freddy wrote the song with Brian together and it is for Mary Austin, or at least that is the common opinion, also stated by Brian May.

    Hi Stacey. I think, it's time for the ultimate experience for Your tears and emotions. After all those Queen songs, now you are ready for The Show Must Go On.

    As gifted a frontman as has ever existed in rock. He could own any crowd and was capable of any stylistic challenge.

    Loved your reaction Stacey (again)! As a fellow nerd, geek and dweeb trust me you have many many more great Queen tracks to react to - you really have no idea about the great variety they have in their music!! Please make sure that you have "White Queen" at the Odeon Hammersmith on your list and please add "In The Lap of the Gods" as well!!!! Stay amazing!!!!!

    Brian still does this live, normally for Freddie, but if you want extra feels, at a gig in Sheffield in 2005 Freddie's mum was there and he (and the crowd) sang it for her.

    Try the Tokyo 85 version in your spare time. At one point the crowd are so keen that Freddie stops singing and Brian stops playing the guitar and it's just the most amazing crowd acapella. It's spine tingling

I truly think you owe it to us to react to the official studio video of "Somebody To Love" , and I certainly know that you reacted to the live version. I have watched it a few (( dozen )) times. In the official video you will see a very young bunch of men Freddie, Brian, John and Roger perfectly showing their vocal skills and their friendship. I hope you can share this reaction. Thank you.

    Stacey... even if you don't react to it, watch the Rio version of this.
    The crowd sings the entire first verse while Freddie conducts.
    A crowd of like 250,000, whose native language is Portuguese - and it's just so perfect. Freddie gets a bit choked up by it.

    I was at Wembley that night. Best gig ever. Freddie was once asked what instrument he played and answered "The crowd darling".

    Freedie did have a talent for interacting with the audience no matter the size of the audience. As I have been watching you grow I feel the same thing about you. I am looking forward to that continuing as your audience grows. As always I am looking forward to your next reaction. 🥰

    Stacey, you should react to Queen's "It's a Kind of Magic" live at Wembley stadium. Another great example of Freddie's amazing stage presence and spectacular vocal talent. I know how much you appreciate Queen and I know you will enjoy this one.

    You should listen to the one from the Rio concert. The crowd is 10x bigger singing every word and English isn't their language. Also the chanting of May's name during his solo gives you goosebumps.
