Cooling a Container in Port Lincoln with Super Therm

Crayfresh is a small Southern Rock Lobster Fishing business in the Seafood Capital of Port Lincoln, South Australia.
They had a dark blue 20 foot, partly corroded shipping container converted to a reefer unit with a motor cooling their bait inside. The temperature of the container needed to remain at minus 25C.
Unfortunately the container in its current state had both corrosion and was allowing so much heat inside that the motor was never cycling.
It was using a significant amount of power but also was never able to get to minus 25C. This also created additional wear and tear on the motor.
Crayfresh turned to NEOech Coatings for the use of Rust Grip for single coat corrosion protection and Super Therm Energy Saving Ceramic Cool Coating to block the solar heat entering the container so the bait remained fresh, extended stock life and reduced overheads and running costs.
So easy was the application of Rust Grip and Super Therm, Crayfresh was able to apply themselves with great results.
Unlike a self-sacrificing topical zinc coating, Rust Grip is a single coat aluminium corrosion encapsulation coating that seeps into the metal and corrosion, anchors and keeps the air and moisture out. Essentially starving the corrosion.
In fact, Crayfresh didn’t even have to blast the container to apply Rust Grip. Just a pressure clean, wait for it to dry and two coats later they’re corrosion protected.
Once Rust Grip was applied and cured, Super Therm was applied by roller and brush in 2 coats to a total thickness of 250 microns dry to create a watertight membrane over the top.
This ensured the container, which had no protection or shade, would only allow just under 4% of the total solar heat in.
Super Therm was also keeping the condensation and moisture out to better protect the stock, reduce their energy demands, reduce overhead pressures on the business, reduce stock loss risks, reduce CO2 and extend their cold storage opportunities in a tough environment.
