  • Welcome to the review of the Haydenshapes Loot!
    I have been riding the Loot in the stock 5'8 x 20 x 2 1/2 - 30.8L and while the loot is generally a small and average wave board, I actually really enjoyed it also when the waves got a little bigger and a little better.
    The Loot is a new shape in the vein of the Plunder model, with less width in the nose and a 5 fins setup - more versatile design.
    New PE-C Technology - Polyurethane Core, Epoxy Lamination & Composite Stringer - with iBeam flex.
    For more info check out - www.haydenshapes.com/surfboar...
    The Loot comes with a 5 fin setup and I primarily rode the Loot as a quad with the Hayden Shapes HS1 or HS2 quad set, but it also worked well as a thruster with the Futures Fins AM2 or John John or any other thruster set you would be familiar and comfortable with.

    5'8" 20" 2 1/2" 30.8

    How would you compare the Loot vs the CI Rocket Wide or even the Pyzel Astro Pop? I am trying to get a new board but just can't make up my mind.

    Hi Craig.
    I have been longboarding a 9’1” for a long time. I am looking for a transition into a small board. I am 1.70 meters tall and weight 82 kgs and I am about to get a 6’6” 43 L volume Loot for a smooth transition (kind of cruiser mode). I heva seen the board and has interesting specs for smooth transition. What do you think?

    I also put a front traction on my small wave board Never had it before, but wanted to try it out as I got tired of melted wax bukkake tears on it when i pull the board out of the back of the ute. Really quite enjoying it tbh

      Waxfoot hahaha! It’s ok, but just make sure you’re wearing a wettie or shirt when surfing. It’ll do things to your bare chest that you never thought were possible... 😂

    Hey Mate, following on from Bach Shak below how would you compare/what did you prefer between The Loot and the Hippy Fling. Looking to get a full groveller/ fun board that I can still turn when I get the odd section and just to keep me in the water

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому

      Hey! Really similar boards and you'd be good with any of them. I really liked the outline and rail profile of the Loot was quite unique and allowed the board to do some really good turns when you got a section!

    Hey Craig, how does the Loot compare to the Plunder as a quad or thruster? Ive heard it works well with the futures centre thruster fin you can get with the long base to fit the long box on the Plunder. It looks like Hayden has tweaked the outline for the Loot but is the rocker and bottom shape similar to the Plunder? Cheers

    Hi guys, Nice review ! In a small wave context did you feel that you got the most performance out of the Ultra Joe the Hippy Fling or the Loot ? Cheer's !

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому +1

      Beach Shak probably the Loot - the Ultra Joe really needed me to add extra litres to it to get it going. I think it was like 32L?
      The Loots flatness is great and really easy to surf. Also the Loot feels good as quad, so it’s really drivey, where the Ultra Joe only felt good as a thruster, so while it was really maneuverable, it didn’t have the same drive...

    I'm late to the party but having seen different reviews the Loot and the Hypto seem really similar in size and dimensions.. Would you recommend one or the other as a 1 board quiver from 1 foot to overhead? I read below you said the Hypto was more performance whereas Hayden Shapes told me the opposite. They did say the Hypto can handle bigger surf? Just wondering because here in the states the Loot is cheaper and cheaper is better all things being equal.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  3 роки тому +4

      Hey mate - Hypto over the Loot everyday.
      The Loot was good, but did not have the versatility of the Hypto.

  • @mattclem382
    @mattclem382 4 роки тому +1

    I have a 5'6 Hypto and love it. My favorite board and I love future flex. Only when the waves are really soft does the round tail on the hypto start to feel a little narrow and lack push. I was looking at the LOOT for a step down. But the Chumlee by Dan Mann also looks really fun. Could you compare the Loot to the Chumlee?? In terms of drive and maneuverability. Do you like the longer rail line of the Loot compared to the Chumlee? Sometimes I worry that these super short hyper-grovelers just don't have enough rail line to give you drive through turns. I would expect that the LOOT is a bit easier to ride, with more drive but the chumlee is more maneuverable? Which board was more fun for you?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому +1

      Matt Clem hey!
      The Chumlee was like the super groveler, where the Loot sat above that as a tad more performance. From the review you’ll see I’m surfing the Loot in some ok 3-4ft waves, I wouldn’t surf the Chumlee in that, it’s super flat rocker and bulky profile would struggle. But where the Chumlee would feel amazing in knee high waves, the Loot wants a tad more push...
      So, if you want a super groveler for waves ankle to chest high - Chumlee.
      If you want a groveler for waves waist high to overhead - The Loot!
      I hope that helps!

      @@TheSurfboardGuide it seems like the boards match the conditions of the local surf where the shaper lives. Waves in Australia seem to have more punch even when they are smaller. Southern California small, is really small and with less punch, conditions where a chumlee would be a better option. I've yet to make it to Australia but it seems like California small and ozzie small is a bit different. Thanks for the feedback.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому +1

      @@mattclem382 I agree to a point, but on the East Coast of Australia where I live and surf waves are quite similar to Southern California - we have fairly average beach breaks, and a few more exciting spots like Trestles etc.
      I think we would have a bit more consistency, and a few more exciting reefs/points/slabs, but similar swell periods etc...

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому +3

    Hi, I am eyeing the Loot, but also considering other options, for a board that will be easy to ride small waves with, up to 1.5 mt average. I have trouble paddling efficiently at take off because I have not surfed for 10 years (I used to compete and be real good) and I am not as strong, quick and reactive as I was then. Basically I need a board with more volume to aid my take off and avoid being late on the wave. Is this the right one for me? and if so, 5'6 or 5'8?
    I always ride 5'8 to 5'10 but way way thinner. Thank You in advance!

    Hi Craig, keen to get your thoughts on what you think is the best board for Sydney beachies for an intermediate surfer? I was thinking of getting an Ultra Joe until I saw this review. I’ve got a Sampler, which is great for waves with a bit of push. Cheers

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 роки тому +1

      Aussie Snowboarder hey! So I’m guessing you’re after something that’ll sit below the Sampler and for small/average waves?
      This Loot here is good, super versatile and lots of fun to surf. Also the Psycho Nitro from JS is another good board for those waves.
      Probably look at things that offer a quad setup, or are good with a twin + stabiliser.

      Aussie Snowboarder if you want something similar to the Sampler, try the Hot Knife by Chilli. Similar outline and surfs very similarly, but a different rocker that probably works across more of a variety of conditions.

    Hey mate.
    Would be cool if you did a review using the new jordy futures fin. Versus the Am2 and maybe the john john ? I've always felt like honeycomb construction is too soft for my style , I love the am2 techflex. Its my go to fin or maybe the am2 side fins with a john john medium tech at the back. I haven't tried the am2 honeycomb. Maybe its a bit stiffer than other honeycombs I've tried. 🤔. Not sure of the complete construction of the new jordy because its painted out. Anyway, great vids ! Hi
    Thanks for the review :)
    I have the HS2 generation fins in size medium as this fits my weight (165lbs) and am surfing them as a thruster set up.
    I would like to try my board as a quad, and would like to use the HS generation 4.20 quad rear fins to do so, but they only come in large.
