I now have something to show my Great great grandchildren when I see them again. Thanks again Danni & Joe ,looking forward to your next adventure

I moored in that same spot in Windsor on my 2-week solo trip from Oxford to Teddington Lock and return back in 1986. I recognized that steep dirt wall immediately. I didn't record how much the mooring was, but water cost 35p.
Yeah, that was crown security following you there along the mooring at Windsor. You must be loving those electric locks. Lovely to watch you in areas dear to my heart. Beautiful river....
There are some fantastic visitors moorings just outside of the fences at Windsor. If I remember it correctly the Minimal List couple even got a delivery of a new toilet right there.

Well there you have it ,you’ve got too make sure all are in place and nut’s are kept tight 😂 You could always get Dan to check them periodically joe 😂😂 have fun👍👍👍👍👍👍🎥🎥👌
YellowJacket wasps nest in the ground and look like bees if you are not familiar with them. :( Nasty, we have them over here in the US too. They go after your food at picnics & BBQs. A paste of baking soda on the sting will help draw out the poison. Glad you were able to get the gear box sorted straight away!
Well, the river did promise to be a big scary place compared to the canal. So pleased all that happened next to a lock landing (and even with a handy road next to you for the RCR van!)
Welcome to my weekend cruising area between Windsor and Maidenhead. Great mooring at adjacent to Bray Studios where you started and again at Dorney lake where you washed your roof, free moorings just before the lock cut on way through Windsor on your next visit. Great to see you your journey evolving. Be lucky ❤
Hi Danni, hi Joe, once again another great video. Windsor I was stationed there in the late 1970 with The Blues and Royals 4 years I think then we moved to Germany where I have been ever since. Sorry to hear about the gearbox. But thank God you got it fixed to beable to carry on. Looking forward to next weeks video. Take care and have fun. All the best Steve.
I always said when i was traveling to London that i would stop at Windsor but was nice to see it, love the adventure and every video i seem to learn something,
Just came across you guys. There's something relaxing watching your videos. Thankyou. Omg you have a bath.on a riverboat! I have never seen one before on a riverboat. Impressive
Hi Danni and Joe, sorry to hear of your breakdown. I'm glad you weren't cruising through downtown London. Being the propulsion system is all mechanical, your failure is quite common. You need at least 6 cylinders for an engine to have a smooth flow of power coming off the crankshaft. With 4 cylinders, the output is a series of power pulses, which loosens those bolts attaching the flywheel to the gearbox. Those need to be tightened regularly but, since they are hiding under the flywheel cover, they are easy to overlook. Fortunately, the Tech was able to get things repaired without a trip back to the marina to pull the engine.
Thanks Bill! Never really thought about that with 4 cylinders - 6's do sound and feel lovely though. I've got a bit of a thing for 5 cylinders like my old Volvo!
@@ItsOhJoe Each cylinder puts out a power pulse of about 130 degrees of rotation so, for each 360 degree rotation of the crankshaft, with a 4 cylinder you end up with 2 - 50 degree periods without power. That deadtime induces a noticable vibration in output power from the crankshaft. A 6 cylinder by comparison has about 30 degrees of overlap in power per revolution. The average person doesn't know (or probably care) about this, but being an engineer, such things interest me.
Couldn't have timed that breakdown better. Extremely lucky it wasn't either later on the tidal section, or earlier alongside one of the weirs! If you revisit Runnymede, maybe consider a hike up the hill to the RAF memorial. As well as being extremely poignant, with memorials to some of our greatest heroes, there's an amazing view across London and Heathrow.
Yeah honestly if it was an hour earlier we may have been stuck north of Chertsey and blocked off from heading south on the Thames for the year! It was a very rushed trip on the Thames we’d love to spend a whole summer exploring - will save Runnymede for a decent trip cheers that sounds great!
Ask the engineer for the “specific torque” for all those bolts Joe and check ‘em regularly. You might want to think about adding an AquaDrive or Python Drive cv joint with thrust bearing welded to the hull. It also has the added advantage of removing at least fifty percent of the noise from the engine as it’s transferred directly to the hull. Costs a few shekels mind you, but peace of mind is invaluable in itself eh?
Yeah the engines pretty loud when sat inside. The problem with checking the bolts is they’re hidden inside the bell housing which forms the two rear engine mounts so the engine has to be raised to check them - awful design 😫
Sorry you had the gearbox issues but so glad you broke down in the right place and were able to get it fixed with relatively little delay. Don't know how you feel, but when I did more or less what you're doing years ago, whilst I really enjoyed the Thames thing and all the extra interest, I found it kind of therapeutic to eventually get back on to the more relaxed and laid back way of life on the canal network. Take care and hope your mechanical problems are over now. Your videography is brilliant and so enjoyable to watch.
You can always mark the nuts/bolts to see if they're shifting! See the wheel nuts on buses - it's a quick visual check to see if any are loosening, maybe when you check oil before cruising. I prefer to use loctite on everything, it really helps, and tends to keep corrosion away too. There are different grades - blue is fairly easy to undo - red you'll need to heat up the soften it to undo, but is fairly permanent in it's effect. Green - good luck undoing that! I've used green in error before, only way is tons and tons of heat! There are different grades of bolts as well of course - I remember having to buy special ones to fit a propshaft since the standard ones will just shear fairly quickly.
I tell you what. Since I've been watching your videos for awhile, I added you two to my prayer list and it looks like it was just in time lol. Glad you're okay, and hopefully there won't be any more drama like that! I think I'll keep you on my prayer list too.
Danni - check that he used all 4 screws for that hand soap bracket instead of just 3 😂 Gutted about the gearbox, but it was only a matter of time until it went, and you couldn't have picked a better place. Glad you got it sorted quickly. Hope you made it to Brentford ok today. Cheers both 👍
Hi again Joe, sorry to see the gearbox parted company with Engine?… silly question but did you use long enough studs and either Nylock nuts or at least thread seal? The engine/gearbox joint takes a hammering every time you put into drive, imagine the force created by the BMC engine against a small gearbox… it will find the weakest point. Vibration will affect “Nut/Stud” tightness hence you must either use thread seal, lock washers or indeed Nylocks. It’s all a learning curve mate, I hope no serious damage has been done to stern shaft… 👍🏻
Yeah honestly can't remember what I used when I fitted it but it's whatever was on there before - it's lasted a couple of years to be fair! The RCR man Pete said that those are the longest bolts that would fit but he did use lock washers and thread lock + there was a bolt missing from when I fitted it so 6 bolts vs 5 we should be good for at-least another two years! 😂
Hi D+J well if doesn't rain it pours, I'm allergic to wasps stings i swell up bad, i suppose Danni knows the correct term, i tell you now there would have been a lot of duck quacks going on. Thank god you're with r.c.r. i hope you're journey gets better, great content as always. You're going to need a lot of £10 for mooring fees, be safe.
Looking for advice! When you run the engine to charge the batteries do you just run it at tick over? And for how long do you charge it? We have not got a clue!
Hey no worries! So just on tick over usually - it depends on what setup you’ve got really. Ours for example; 780ah of batteries - they’re standard lead acid so only half the capacity is usable - 390ah - so if they’re completely flat our setup would take 13 hours to charge (390 ➗ 30a from the charger) Usually you’ll just be topping them up if you’re not cruising so even an hour or so will help Hope of help!

😂😂😂. We were just in such a rush with so many time constraints I was worried I’d find loose bolts. Now we’re through the rushed part it’s definitely time for some much needed care in the engine bay
Worth noting that if we didn’t make it through Chertsey lock that day then we wouldn’t have made it off of the Thames, didn’t have so much as a day spare to fix anything if we did find an issue so it was either send it or turn around
