Cast iron is a pain to weld because there's no standard for the alloy. Old school cast is easier to weld because the higher carbon content (I think) involves a lot of pre heating, carefully welding, pinging while it cools down. 4 bolt flange off your plasma is going to be a way better option for you.
didnt follow the renesis hybrid build, but I've watched kyle mohan go through the aspects of it and from my own experience as an engineer I can immediately point out why it wasnt worth it. This is actually stupid simple. You only increase the amount of exhaust flow when you do the hybrid with 6 exhaust headers. You still only have the original intake flow. If we think of the engine as an air pump, you cant take air out of it without reintroducing the same amount of air because that would mean creating a vaccuum in the engine. This basically means that the intake and exhaust, in every type of combustion engine, need to be matched accordingly and the power is dictated by which ever is bottlenecking the engine. Here comes the fun part, if you cant just increase the the amount of intakes like you can the exhausts in the hybrid builds, how else can you introduce more air into the engine? Compressor.
Exactly my thoughts, I'm building NA engines in my free time, flow optimisation is the key, and to get that everything has to match, exhausting more air than it intakes is impossible, boost or N2O is the solution imo
To get the intake temps down you could always do a nice bonnet scoop with... well anything. it's a budget build so... drain pipe directly into the 'open' end of the cone filter. Might need some plastic welding but it's do-able
If you have a spare RX8 hood, that you are willing to cut up, why not make a 90 degree inlet pipe for the turbo, and have a hole in the hood as a scoop? Something like a Subaru, but the 2009 hatchback version.
I bet you could get 2 tubes through the stock hole in the front above the crash bar, one can go to the inter cooler and the other to the inlet on the turbo. Might have to cut some fuel line and slit it lengthwise to press on to the stock air tube inlet hole kinda like a big bung so your (tubes) don’t rub on the front hole. Just an idea.
Question, with the cold side intercooler tubes from turbo, the 2.5" tube goes through the front body through that big hole then down into intercooler can you mod or share that hole with a 2nd 2.5" tubes make it bend 90degress to the right and sit the pod filter just above the intercooler? making sure it gets zero heat from engine bay.
I have the arc captain 200amp ACDC tig welder. I bought a standard style tig torch and their pedal and it tigs awesome. If you need links I can email you if I'm not allowed to add links to the comments ✊🏿 I think total is like 750-800 if there's a coupon
3 red flags right off the bat. Small responsive turbo, low boost, wastegate not in the best spot. I doubt it makes it off the dyno, it’s going to creep like crazy. Only saving grace could be the T3 flange causing so much restriction that the wastegate might be fine. I thought rx8’s oil level was above the oil pan flange, it’s going to be difficult to add a turbo drain if that is the case.
Eric, just caught you on Gears and Gasoline and as a very frugal person, could you have used the plates on the motor you tore apart? I know they had some things going on, but what would have been the down side? I cannot drop $3200 at will. Had a FC in the early 90's and was hoping to get into another rotary, but the only one I can afford is an RX8. Well, I have seen cheaper others but they need a lot of work and have had a lot of different hands on them. Oh, do not like working on the ground, but we do what we have. Except, mine is gravel. Want a project, many things have become over priced or scarce. Plus, I am disabled on a fixed income so... Not supposed to wrench anymore, but hard to let go. Back problems in your mid 50's are no joke. Loving the rally, great attitude you have, it is supposed to be fun. Or other car ideas if you were to do it diferently?
Hello Rad and others in the comments section. I got a 84 gsl with a 12a and would possibly engine swap it in the future. I was looking for a 13b turbo 2 and where to get one put of curiosity but can't seem to find a definite answer. I was wondering maybe one of you guys would know. Thanks
That manifold really puts the LOG in log manifold goddamn lmao you should ceramic coat it brown or something
Loved seeing you guest build a 13b on Gears& Gasoline's channel.
FIRED UP!!! I have been waiting a month for this video! Can’t wait to see the results. Please keep a grand total of all parts costs
So hyped for this more than anything on the channel.

Cast to stainless would best to be brazed…two dissimilar metals and would be plenty strong.

I can feel this channel has potential in 1 year you gonna have 500k subs if you continue to make quality videos like these 🎉
I love your attitude. I love your idiosyncrasies. The way you talk to the audience, including your choice of words is just wonderful. Keep it up
*I finally got a '50-60k mile' JDM engine put in my dead S2...*
129psi. Totally 50-60k miles.
I'm not gonna complain about that.
Not bad, if you don't mind me asking what'd you pay for it?
@@twinchrome3258 Engine was $2,300.
@Psyrecx usd I assume? That's not terrible. It come with most accessories?
@@twinchrome3258 Yeah. Had a blown crossover pipe gasket, but that's about it. Might have been what retired it in Japan.
man wish the rally stuff popped off as hard as these videos lol. Keep it up my dude.

Oh yeah that would be sick
or make it go out the front through the same hole as the turbo to intercooler tube? lots of room above the intercooler for a pod filter to sit

Came here from G&G, glad i did, very good content. Also cool to hear youre also in Indiana!
You're luck you have a LHD rx8 here in Aus we have the RHD and the steering rack shaft thing takes up alittle bit of space as well, alittle harder.
came here from the G & G channel and love your work brother!
If more than 50% of the project cars run its not hoarding, its a hobby!.
Hood exhaust with flames...I like your style
Now this will be fun. I'd be curious to see how you would build a turbo manifod out of the stock cast iron
You are a beast l'm so happy you're back on theRx 8 I hope you get at least 250 up in it
I've been waiting too long for turbo yellow RX8 content.
I would like to see how a rear mounted turbo does on a Rx-8!
The engine bay is so small. And all the heat under the hood is already high!
I’ve thought about this as well. Would also add a sleeper effect
Living the dream! Great content always!
may be easier to route the oil drain to the front cover. always heard of people doing that
Why not flip your intercooler upside down help limit pipeing length and less silicone couplers too pop off all the time ext?
Awesome! Turbo BBRRRAAAAAAPPP!
pretty sure you want the MAF closer to the throttle body .
Thank you very much making this video
i hope your family sleeps well tonight
So what im hearing is rotary powered cj-7 in the future, right?

Rad have you seen the keep it reet 4 rotor? pretty weird and makes you marvel at it

Fired I like to see running
Yeah if you cant get your hands on a turblown cast manifold, gotta make a custom manifold with downpipe $$$$$
Kinda sad about the hood exhaust, it looks like everyone is taking the short route
Honda
Because there isn’t any room at all
oo cannonball attempt comin up
No bov needed! especially a dirt cheap build
Have u had any problems with the 6th port on an rx8 more specific the motor that controls it haven problems with mine can't find much online
Wish I could like a video multiple times
+1 French follower.
Me like this ❤ can’t wait to see the 🔥
Needed this Vid
what are you going to use to tune?
Versatuner is the plan
Can I get a link to the ebay turbo you got?
did you edit the ecu,or run a standalone
great info 👍
hey thats no fair, you didnt watch a 19 minute video in 6 minutes
@@Noahh_jptry put 1.5 fast on thr settings

Do they still hold the One Lap of America?
When are you going to rotary swap the CJ?
Are you going to drive the rx8 to 7Stock this year? 🤘
I dont know what I'll bring. Either buzz the rx8 or the radx7
@RADPotential yay! I'll be flying there this year so I hope to finally meet up with you!
Did I speak to you a few years back? thru Kevin in Cbus I had My FD at the time
Are going to be running a cannonball?
Tubes
130hp I guess that's at wheel , but even so , that's way looooow , mine 194hp at wheel no turbo ,means your engine is almost dead?
I thought the rx8 made like 220 hp from factory why aren’t u getting that?
low compression means you can really up the boost
10:42 ,"This engine is high compression, do high risk of detonation..."
I specifically remember you saying this engine is low compression
The Renesis runs 10:1 compression rotors, so the air that does get compressed gets compressed quite a lot as compared to an FD 13-b at 9:1.
