A friend of mine had a baby last week. My friend's name is Bláthnaid (blaw-nid) which means "little flower" or "blossom" in Irish. She named her daughter Theadora Bridie Blossom! I just had to share with you and the community a) because I think it is such a beautiful name and b) because I know that Blossom is Evelina's middle name!
What about a list of all the names you were convinced that you would use when you had kids but they did not end up working in the end, I know lily was one of your long term favourites and I was wondering if they were any others? I loved this video by the way!
I had a neighbour/ friend, Gail, as a child (many years ago!). My uncle Norman who was boarding with us, always called her Windy. Don't know why that sprang to mind. BTW you rarely see either of those names any more.
No way, my middle name is Gail! I didn't even make that connection when I made the suggestion. Also when I was younger I didn't like my middle name because it meant 'big wind'. I love my middle name now :)
I would love to see a video about names inspired from famous painters/paintings: Mona Lisa, Pearl (Girl with a Pearl Earring), Jackson (Pollock), Henri (Matisse), Margarita Theresa (Las Meninas), Stella or Nova (The Starry Night - Van Gogh)... Love your channel! Many greetings from Germany! :)
Can't wait to watch this! A suggestion for next week's list: variations of traditional names. These could be used as middle names for example if you want to honour a relative, you could take their traditional name and use a more modern variation. xxx
I had a friend who knew a girl named Shanie, which as a Shane, I don't know how to feel about that, but I guess Jamie for a girl is a thing, so maybe if there were enough female Shanies, I'd get more used to it. As long as they don't just straight-up use Shane on a girl, I'm willing to learn to accept it.
Yes I like this! My daughter is called Frances but everyone knows her as Francie. Her middle name is Lexie because we really wanted Alexandra to honour relatives but couldn't because her initials would have been FAT! I really like Lexie though as an alternative
Hey SJ! I’d be really interested in a name/pronoun changing video, so if anyone is transgender and want to choose new names while still having a part of their old names (not just Harry to harriet) or just any names that represent rebirth or change! Great video but would love to see you cover this idea! ❤️
When I substitute taught many years ago, all the elementary children loved Amelia Bedelia. Even though she was so clumsy and goofy, she was such a lovable character. The children couldn’t wait until another book came out to see what misadventures she came up against and how she got out of those situations. Such a cool and fun book. Very highly recommended for a fun read!!!!
It's my dream to have a child named Coraline! I love the book and the film, it is such a pretty name! The right pronunciation (at least according to the movie) is saying the ending "line" exactly like "caroline", but I actually loved the way you pronounced it!!! I'm from Brazil and I love your channel so much, it's amazing!
A little girl in my daughters ballet class was named Avonlea Rose and they called her Rosie. I had never heard of using Avonlea but thought it was so beautiful.
She didn’t pick obscure books at all. These books are all the definition of classics. There are other classics (such as Winnie the Pooh) but that doesn’t mean these aren’t classics.
You should do a “viewers favourite” baby name list. Let everyone put their top 2 boys and 2 girls names in the community tab and do a video with 3 categories “most liked”, “you would use”, and “most unique”. It would be a really cool way for the community to feel involved and for you to hear some new names you may not have heard or thought of. Love your videos 🥰
Request!! A list that puts a modern or fresh spin on biblical or Hebrew names. So many people are jumping on the Biblical name trend, now there's too many Noah's and Joshuas and Eli's. But what if we spin them somehow, reinvent them? I know you've done it before on this channel. Thanks!
Haven't come across my name, Rhiannon, would love to hear your thoughts about it. Named after a Welsh goddesse and share my name with an amazing classic rock song. Love your videos 💙
3 really cute names from a book series I grew up with is “Ramona” “Beatrice” and “Roberta”, the sisters from the Ramona and Beezus book series. It makes me remember being in first grade and my teacher letting me borrow them one by one from her personal collection to read at home! Her name is Mrs. Carlton and she was truly one of the greatest teachers that supported all of her students in what ever academic field they loved whether it was reading, writing, math, or art! She got me reading and writing stories by the end of that year and even though I’m 18 now no one can get me to stop writing stories 😂 so there’s the little back story of those 3 names!
Avalon and Avonlea as old English story book names would be a dream 😍 love love Maud though! Though not sure how I love it with a Canadian accent as much.
There are actually some really great names in the Chronicles of Narnia as well (it’s my favorite series 🥰)! My favorites are Beruna (g) and Shasta (b).
My favourite childerens books names are: Alma (Emils' Mother in the books by Astrid Lindgren) Ronja (Ronja the Robbers daughter) Mia-Maria (from Lotta by Astrid Lindgren) Aurora (from the books by Anne Cath. Vestly) Lagertha (Also from Anne Cath. Vestly books) Ylva (from My dearest Sister by Astrid Lindgren)
A list on historic legends names would be amazing eg Rosa parks, Alan turning, Francis crick etc - people ahead of their time that changed the world as we know it :) would be awesome
What a great list! Wendy is one of my favorite ever children's book namesakes! I love how J.M. Barrie invented the name after hearing a child say "friendy-wendy," and I love the character. Beverly Cleary also has some great ones, like Ramona and Hartley from "The Luckiest Girl."
My daughter's name is Hedwig - Hedi for short - and it fits her like a glove. We decided on her name in like 5 minutes via messenger and we both instantly fell in love. I love the unusual ending for a girls name. We're not even thinking about another child but in my head I'm already wondering about another old school book characters name for nr 2, so this list is gold
I think this maybe my favourite list you’ve done! I know a family with a 2 little girls called Austen and Brontë and I cannot tell you how much I love this name combo! Never would have thought to Austen for a little girl but it’s beautiful!
Beautiful list , I’m on the hunt for a sister name for Sadie Rose Badenhorst... my naming partner is not too adventurous 😊 we thinking Ivy Grace ... few more months to go will stay tuned to baby name Monday’s 💕
I loved the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce growing up. Alanna is the main character and a favorite name of mine. I also loved the vintage children's book Lucille and would definitely add Lucille (nickname Lucy) to my names list. And Eloise from the children's series by Kay Thompson. Also the name Hazel for a boy is so cool!
love love loved this video!! 🥰 a few list ideas I was musing over: *US presidents/first ladies (a lot of surnames as first names!) *names inspired by artists/works of art *names of cars/race car drivers/car designers or people in the industry (basically cool names that husbands could get behind 😂) *names from chick flicks (mean girls, clueless, the notebook, etc.) *names for “grandmillennials”
Roald Dahl chose some beautiful names. I love Matilda and her best friend Lavender. Also, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I love how Charlie's grandparents were named Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine, Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina :) The grandma names are so cute.
I am obsessed with names inspired by books, I know it’s not a children’s book- but my favourite character ever is Atticus Finch, and all I can imagine is a little baby boy named Atticus 🥺🤣
You'd just have to be careful what the song is actually talking about. The first two examples that came to my head were "Emanuela" and "Bettina", both by Fettes Brot which are both great songs but not very flattering :D
I loved this. my favourite names is Emmeline. I think it sounds so beautiful and there is obviously Emmeline Pankhurst who got the votes for women so it’s a real girl power name plus it means hard working 😍
My 2 year old niece is Emmeline. She was born in 2018 which was the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote in the UK and I immediately got her the Little People Big Dreams book on Emmeline Pankhurst. She's a feisty thing who has no problem telling her big brother off so it suits her perfectly!
enid blyton names would be a good video! i loved st clares, malory towers and the naughtiest girl when i was younger and my love for the names daphne and felicity came from there:)
It was interesting watching this video, because there were quite a few of these books that I'm not familiar with. I love a lot of the names from the babysitters club series! (Stacey, Marianne, Mallory)
I also had to think about Annika und Tommy (pippis neighbors) right away when I read the title😍 and talking about die rote Zora, I think I have to go back to the movie and look up the other characters names cause I remember here were some special ones :)
I really like Lyra, the books were pretty awesome and I love the idea of daemon. Pan was sooooo cute 😊 I'd rather choose Coraline if it were pronounced the way you did :3 Mr. Gaiman got some pretty nice female names in his books. Ivaine and Oonagh or Una sound quite sweet, too, though I'd probably choose them for characters rather than babies ^^' Some names from Astrid Lindgren's books would probably make my list, too. I somehow really like Birk or Birka for a girl. Some more common names like Mia or Ida (and those would be reminiscent of my grannies names, too) Another good place to search for names would be Michael Ende's books, I guess. The Neverending Story was the first fantasy book I ever read and I think maybe Auryn or Nessaja would make good names, too. Or Momo? I know that's not a book, but right now I really love Linea, which I first stumbled across when watching "Island of the lost souls". Maja or Maya is another that would make my list for girls (My parents wanted to name me that, but decided against it, because of a rather chubby, cute, little, animated bee, that was rather popular around the time I was born)
I believe Ethel comes from a old English word meaning noble. I loved reading The Railway Children, my fav characters name was always "Bobbie" short for Roberta. Julia Roberts has a daughter named Hazel. Point Horror books were great! I adored Shirley Hughes' books, they made me love the name Alfie.
In British author, E. Nesbit’s classic, “The Five Children and It”, she named the oldest sister of the children “Anthea”. (Her nickname was “Panther”!). So beautiful! Meaning is: “Lover of God” or “Beloved by God”! So gorgeous ! Also “Effie” from Nesbit’s “The Book of Dragons”. Charming!
When you showed Anne of Green gables I was so excited, but you missed some of my favourite names. Charlotta the fourth works for miss Lavender. She is called Charlotta the fourth because miss Lavender cannot remember the names of the sisters: Charlotta, Julietta, Evelina and Leonora
I love that you remembered why she was called “Charlotte the fourth” lol I also really loved Ruby Gillis, Diana is gorgeous and strong, and I’ve always liked Marilla too!
I only read watership Down last year (after seeing the traumatising film as a child haha) and I love all the nature names! Such an interesting book too. Also the magic faraway tree was my favourite book as a child I still have the old copy my Grandma passed down to me!
My number one pick for a girl right now is Lucy Anne, and it has a lot of connotations for me, lots of books and movies have used Lucy as a heroine name, my favorites being Narnia, The Ghost and Mrs Muir (my mother’s favorite film), and the Lockwood & Co books. The other side of it is the author of Anne of Green Gables was Lucy Maud Montgomery, so Lucy Anne actually really honors one of my all-time favorite books from childhood.
Hattie (Tom's Midnight Garden), Amethyst (The Ordinary Princess), Scout, Jem & Atticus (To Kill A Mocking Bird), Eliza (The Forgotten Garden), Lisbeth (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Malcolm (La Belle Savauge)
My favorite names growing up we’re Madeleine, June, and Eloise from Madeleine, Junie B Jones, and Eloise at the Plaza! My family stole all the names by using Adeleine and Ella Louise for kids, and my uncle married a June (didn’t end well). Now I love the name Elia from Game if Thrones
You and I are exactly on the same page at the moment SJ! I had my baby last week 5 weeks prematurely, and he is Soren Sage then our surname....and I know Soren was in your minimalist list last time, which was just before I went into labour, such an strange coincidence....and Arrietty was one of our top 3 names if he had been a girl!
So Coraline in the context of the Gaiman book still has the ending pronounced like you would in Caroline. Also if you've not had a chance to watch the stop-motion film adaptation I highly recommend it! How you pronounced it here does make more sense if you want a more traditional pronunciation and is absolutely gorgeous. Coraline also appears as a character in the 1849 opera Le torédor. It's a fairly old French diminutive of Coral and I love that something like a modern children's book helped revive it. Even if it happened because of a typo. I love that you mentioned Mildred and Ethel. I adore so many names from Worst Witch! I've particularly fallen in love with the names Enid and Sybil. I only learned about this series because of the Netflix show and now I'm hooked. Like Harry Potter is chopped liver to me now, Worst Witch is where it's at. 😂 I would 100% use Hazel for a boy. But I'd also use names like Vivian, Whitney, and Rose for a boy. Some favorites of mine are from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfornunate Events. Isadora, Violet, Beatrice, Josephine, Sunny, Esme, Kit, Georgina, Friday, Jacques, Klaus, Jerome, Montgomery, Fernald, Duncan, Ishmael- Those books are a name lovers playground. My absolute favorite name if we have another boy is Edmund- which pops up in everything from Shakespeare to Jane Austen to C.S. Lewis; the first time I saw the name being when I read The Chronicles of Narnia in grade school. My partner came to love it for the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond. We're still debating which spelling to use.
I would love to see you do a list based off old Hollywood names. So many actresses and actors have great last names that work as first names now, Harlow, Monroe, Crosby etc💕
Hello! Love Baby Name Mondays! My friend is having a baby and she’s looking for a way to honor her husband’s career in the military (he’s in the US Army) through her child’s name. She doesn’t know the gender but I was hoping you would consider doing a list of military inspired names. 💕
As a tween I used to read Barbara Cartland novels when I would visit my grandma. Her characters always had really interesting names, and she wrote hundreds of books.
I used to looove the tiger who came to tea when I was little- I felt so special being called Sophie myself! I've always loved Felicity after the fairy in Felicity's wishes! xx
I recently found the name "Clowance" for a girl. It took some getting used to, but it's such a classic and beautiful alternative to "Chloe" or "Clover". "Clo" could be a nickname. It just rolls right off the tongue and sounds very lush and whimsical.
I was big on all James Herriot and Beatrice Potter books, so I think the names Beatrice and Herriot would be good ways to commemorate those authors. I was also big on the Max and Ruby books, particularly Bunny Cakes, and those are really cute names too.
I'm surprised Chrysanthemum isn't on this list! Is that not a popular book in the UK? My favorite name from a book when I was little was Harriet from Harriet the Spy.
Our Helena Mae’s middle name was chosen because of my love for the works of Author Louisa May Alcott. We chose the more Roman-inspired spelling though.
Had to comment, I’ve never heard anyone else having read “summer dreams, winter love” I adored that book and still keep a beat up copy of it as I just can’t part with it ❤️
Hi SJ I just need some help 🙈 I gave birth to twins on Monday and I think we have decided their names (Edie and Apollo). I just need some middle names!!! We can’t decide!!!! We still have about 5 weeks until we have to register them but I would love to have their names sorted!! I have 3 other children Nancy, Ace and India and I prefer longer middle names as all my children have quite short names as you can tell !! But I think I would like a shorter name for Apollo?! Just wondered if you have any suggestions x Thank you so much xxx Laura 💕
Some suggestions, good luck! :) Edie James Apollo Amadeus Edie Jackson Apollo Valentin Edie William Apollo Ezra Edie Samuel Apollo Zeplin Micha Felix Kian Kim Lou Leonard/ Leonardo Gabriel Noah Matheo
I love Austen for a girl (Jane Austen), Darcy for a boy (Pride and Prejudice), Blythe as a gender neutral name (Anne of Green Gables), Baker (the Great Gatsby), and Scarlet (Gone With the Wind). I also love Hazel and Anderson as you mentioned :)
So many names on my list are from books i love! I have Walter, Redmond, Esther and Blythe are all inspired by Anne of Green Gables. Briar and Lark inspired by Tamara Pierces the circle of magic series (I found this series through Point Fantasy!). Darcy of course from Pride and prejudice. And as you mentioned Enid as from Enid Blythe ❤️ I love this list!
I loved this list! So my style of names! I love Coraline and Wilbur so much. One of my favorite children's book names is Flossie from The Bobbsey Twins. I think it would be on trend now, but I haven't seen it out in the wild yet. I also really like Tacy from the Betsy-Tacy books. It's a unique nickname for Anastasia.
I was traumatized by watership down too! I haven't seen it in decades but I will never forget the scene where the rabbits are dying stuck in their hole.
Wow what a perfect name choice!!! Love it xxxx
Bridie reminds me of the food 😂 Sorry.
@@wildnfearless9840 haha I'm Irish so had to Google what Bridie food was! It's not a thing here! I think in my friend's case it's a family name!
@@aifricnichleirigh Oh, okay. That's good.

How about an 'inspiring' name list, like names of characters that did great things/had admirable qualities or names with wholesome meanings?
Love this idea!
Love this too!
Baby name list idea: Weather inspired baby names!
Love your channel!
Would have been perfect for today too!!! Great idea xxx

Zephyr and Sunny for sure
I used to know a lady who's first name was actually Windy. When I first met her, I was so unsure if I was hearing it right or she was actually Wendy!
Violet
Klaus
Kit
Lemony
From a series of unfortunate events. Such good names in that book
Travis DeWolf yes! I love the names in those books!
Love Kit
Violet is at the top of my list
I love the name Marilla from "Anne of Green Gables". I never hear it in real life. The nickname Rilla is so cute as well.
These could be used as middle names for example if you want to honour a relative, you could take their traditional name and use a more modern variation. xxx
Yes I’m always thinking of names that work in that way - great idea xzz

I love the name Arietta! It’s combining Arrietty from The Borrowers and Etta for my great aunt who read the books to me.
What a beautiful name!
that is so pretty!
It's my dream to have a child named Coraline! I love the book and the film, it is such a pretty name! The right pronunciation

I thought I'd remembered the 'line' in Coraline the same as pronounced in Caroline, but then I thought I'd maybe misremembered...
A little girl in my daughters ballet class was named Avonlea Rose and they called her Rosie. I had never heard of using Avonlea but thought it was so beautiful.
My brothers name is ‘Christopher Robin’ like from Winnie the Pooh! I love it 🍯
I thought for sure Winnie would be on this list. SJ picked more obscure books and not the classics like Winnie the Pooh.
She didn’t pick obscure books at all. These books are all the definition of classics. There are other classics (such as Winnie the Pooh) but that doesn’t mean these aren’t classics.
Luna also has a literary connection, as there’s Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter! Lyra andLuna would be lovely for twin girls!
Would love a “geek chic” traditionally old lady/old man name list! 😍

I'm from Canada and it translates quite well! Also, a pretty common French Canadian name "Maude". :)
Lyra and Vega would be great twin girls names! Tied together in the Star and mythological theme but yet not matchy.
So true! Love that idea x

I also had to think about Annika und Tommy (pippis neighbors) right away when I read the title😍 and talking about die rote Zora, I think I have to go back to the movie and look up the other characters names cause I remember here were some special ones :)
Pippi is called Peppi in the Finnish translation. It's a fun name! 🙂
I loved Annika from the Pippi books!
I really like Lyra, the books were pretty awesome and I love the idea of daemon. Pan was sooooo cute 😊
I'd rather choose Coraline if it were pronounced the way you did :3 Mr. Gaiman got some pretty nice female names in his books. Ivaine and Oonagh or Una sound quite sweet, too, though I'd probably choose them for characters rather than babies ^^'
Some names from Astrid Lindgren's books would probably make my list, too. I somehow really like Birk or Birka for a girl. Some more common names like Mia or Ida (and those would be reminiscent of my grannies names, too)
Another good place to search for names would be Michael Ende's books, I guess.
So pleased to see Arrietty. My daughter is called Harriet, but we call her Arrietty as a bit of a nickname (although it's longer!)
I loved point horror books - especially ‘The Babysitter’! Complete forgot about them, need to dig out my book collection from the teen years 😂
I believe Ethel comes from a old English word meaning noble.
And how could we forget the iconic Cordelia ♥️
I only read watership Down last year (after seeing the traumatising film as a child haha) and I love all the nature names! Such an interesting book too. Also the magic faraway tree was my favourite book as a child I still have the old copy my Grandma passed down to me!
I'm so happy you mentioned Lyra! It's from my favourite book, and it's on my baby name list (though I'm in no rush to use it, im only 21 lol) ♡
Yaay!! You used my suggestion of Avonlea!❤❤
oh my gosh i loved the magic faraway tree, such a throwback for me!
Wilbur is my top baby boy name, absolutely love it! 💙 One of my top favourite children’s book was Heidi, which I think is a beautiful girl’s name! 💕
One of my friends named her daughter Maude Bowie and I absolutely love it. So cute.
That is a gorgeous name 🥺
Hattie (Tom's Midnight Garden), Amethyst (The Ordinary Princess), Scout, Jem & Atticus (To Kill A Mocking Bird), Eliza (The Forgotten Garden), Lisbeth (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Malcolm (La Belle Savauge)
I think this is my favourite list you've made. I love all of these names
Loved these!!
What about a quirky name list? Cute, a little different, yet memorable names. I don't know 😆
Loved point horror! Brilliant books.
can you do an animal inspired baby names?
Yes great idea! I’ve done bird names but not all animals xxx
Great idea, my great grandfathers name was Løve, it means Lion in norwegian. I think its a awezome name! 🤩
My job involves handling people’s personal information and I once had a customer named Cheetah!
I’ve been watching your videos for years!!! But now I’m pregnant I so want you to finally do the welsh baby names pls xxx
I had my baby last week 5 weeks prematurely, and he is Soren Sage then our surname....and I know Soren was in your minimalist list last time, which was just before I went into labour, such an strange coincidence....and Arrietty was one of our top 3 names if he had been a girl!
my grandma was named after Anne of Green Gables, ended up following a similar life path as well with the raven hair the original Anne longed for
So Coraline in the context of the Gaiman book still has the ending pronounced like you would in Caroline.
I would 100% use Hazel for a boy. But I'd also use names like Vivian, Whitney, and Rose for a boy.
Some favorites of mine are from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfornunate Events.
Isadora, Violet, Beatrice, Josephine, Sunny, Esme, Kit, Georgina, Friday, Jacques, Klaus, Jerome, Montgomery, Fernald, Duncan, Ishmael-
Those books are a name lovers playground.
My names heidi after my mothers favourite book as a child 💕 I think names inspired by books are so cutee xx
Me too! 😃💗
My favorite book names are Blythe (inspired by Gilbert Blythe), Lucy (from Narnia) and Percy (from Percy Jackson and the Olympians)
Yes I’ve added a few to lists like liberty and poppy; love the idea xxx
If it is a girl, she should consider Honor, Brave or Navy 💕
Trinity Young thank you, those are great ones! 😍 I love Honor that’s seriously so pretty, I will tell her that one for sure!
Looooove your videos - some of these names are beautiful - Please can you do a list based on musical theatre :) xx
Could you do maybe a names list inspired by musical characters
Oooh I love this idea!!
Yes ❤️
Shelby thank you
babe ruthless 💕💕
As a tween I used to read Barbara Cartland novels when I would visit my grandma. Her characters always had really interesting names, and she wrote hundreds of books.
Love this theme SJ lots of love 🇨🇦
OMG I´VE LITERALLY HAD THE NAME AVONLEA ON MY NAME LIST FOR SO LONG!! I´M OBSESSED WITH ANNE OF GREEN OF GABLES :`)
Me too!! Avonlea has been on my list since I was a child! Love love love
@@ecfranciaky I'm so happy to hear that!! I thought nobody read the books anymore :,) what's your favourite one?
I also love Marilla. The new Anne with an E adaptation also added the name Cole for a boy and I quite like "Cuthbert".
Side note where did you get that adorable headband lol
I just saw that she told another commenter that her headband "is an old one from Zara"
In case you're still wanting to know :)
Clowance Poldark!
Here's a tricky one: names with diacritics, ie graves, cedillas, acutes (eg Renée). Apologies if you've done this before.
Coraline is one of my favorite movies!! Xx
Our Helena Mae’s middle name was chosen because of my love for the works of Author Louisa May Alcott. We chose the more Roman-inspired spelling though.
Wow I love that name so much! So many literary vibes xxx
Omg I'm obsessed with your videos i find out on my birthday if my daughter's having a boy or girl due early August
Good list, they were beautiful. You should make a Bible names list.

Thekla a thank you so much 😊 c
Lindsay May thank you so much x😊
I think we are going for Apollo Fox!!!! However we are not sure for Edie we are struggling with her middle name!!
Did anyone ever read 'Ooh La La Lottie', i think lottie is such a cute name and also Pippi from "Pippi Longstocking", what an ICON!! 💙
I love all the names from Astrid Lindgren's books! Thinking about naming my future daughter Ronja (or Ronya) or maybe Madita :)
I love Darcy so much! In the Marvel Thor movies, there is a best friend character named Darcy and I think it is so cute on a girl as well!
