Bridgerton is set in the 1810s and the list you used is from 1880. Georgian and Victorian names are really interesting. Love the name Gilbert. I think of it from the Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.

I recently came across an old fairytale book I'd forgotten I had. It featured some beautiful names: -Aimabel -Percinet -Alberic -Rosette -Amandine -Gracious -Blondine (her sisters are ironically called Brunette and Rousette (Ginger in French)) -Fleurelise/Florelise -Zelie (ZAY-lee) What do you think?
Playing the game (because it's interesting!): Today(2020s): Leah 2018: Violet 2017: Hazel 2010s: Hailey 2000s: Maria 1990s (when I was born): Sara 1980s: Kristin 1970s: Tara 1960s: Kim 1950s: Julie 1940s: Cheryl 1930s: Marjorie 1920s: Grace 1910s: Bertha - this was my great grandma's name, and decade she belonged to! 1900s: Agnes 1890s: Gladys 1880s: Lena - this is probably my favorite on the list :)
I really like the names you featured, they are so beautiful. Hyacinth is the only one who still gives me Hyacinth Bucket vibes from Keeping Up Appearances. Even though hilarious to watch, I would be afraid the whole neighborhood would try to avoid my daughter. But it's an old show, so maybe it's just me... And my 1880 name would be Alta, which I have mixed feelings about because that's the word for tall in my language 😂
Yeah, James and Claire are pretty well known, but Outlander has Murtagh and Marsali as well as Claudel (Fergus), Geillis, Dougal, and Laoghaire (which I actually really love).
Far off from having a baby but love names haha... Named my first car Laurel before the trend of "Laurel and Yanny", and recently named my new car Daphne (to match my old cars name) right before Bridgerton came out. So I like to think I'm ahead on the trends haha!
Just stopping by with a thanks for helping to name one of our twin baby girls. We went with Josephine Roux and Tigerlily Rye (Josie and Tigg). Tigerlily seemed like the perfect combo of delicate and fierce which describes her journey into this world. Thank you!!
Just typed in my sister name into the ‘your name through the ages’ generator and it said ‘sorry no data your name, meaning it occurred fewer than 5 times’ 😂😂 So if you want are looking for a unique and not popular name choose: Jarrah meaning: plant in the myrtle family. Well known Western Australian tree
I've been waiting for this video!!!! We named our baby Simon back in August, and I was so happy with it because it is not popular in the US at all, and I never ever see it on any baby name lists. In fact, any time I see it in a movie or on TV, it is used for a British character. But I had a feeling once bridgerton came out, it was going to blow up. I think it is seen as such a nerdy name, but Bridgerton showed it attached to a sexy character.
Hyacinth in french is Jacinthe and is a name that used to be very popular! Nowadays I think all Jacinthe's are over 60. My own aunt is a Jacinthe and the name suits her very well! Could be a cute alternative
Ahh I bridgerton so I can’t wait to watch this video! Ok unto names I’m going to add to my list; Winnie Iris Cora Blythe (favorite book\tv series ever!) Gabriel oak Morwenna Daphne Colin Benedict (I like Bennett better tho) Eloise Hyacinth Dela Hazel Eugene Kate
You must watch Poldark! Such an amazing series.. I love the name Cecily for a little girl (a character from Poldark series). My grandad who I love dearly is called Cecil.. so I would be tempted to use that name 🥰🤩
What's fun is the girl who plays Daphne is named Phoebe, which have a really similar feel. I wonder how many times the other actors accidentally called her Phoebe instead of Daphne.
Love the baby names through the ages generator! I wish there was an English one though- I got some very American sounding options! I also think my name (Abigail) might have been significantly more popular in the UK in 1985 than it was in the US- they seemed to think it was quite exotic. 😄
I need to add Gilbert to my list 🙌🏻 I have never heard Morwenna! How unique & pretty 😍 I’m obsessed with the name Daphne 💛 I don’t really like the name Simon but he made me like it more!
Me too - ha ha! He made it so current! Do rate and review episode 3 of the podcast - linked in the description - as I'm giving away a Zoom call baby name chat with me for one reviewer xxx
Blythe though its pronounced slightly differently makes me think of the potato famine in Ireland :( I do really love the name Morwenna I think its so beautiful and I love that it has meaning connected to the sea.
My 2021 name is Hazel, which is cute! 2010s is Samantha (which is really surprising) 2000s is Rachel, 1970s is Rachel, 1960s is Melissa 1950s is Shirley, 1940s is Bonnie. 1900s is Esther, 1890s is Eva and 1880s is Hattie!
There was a movie in the 70s called Sybil about a girl with dissociative identity disorder. I don't think that association has worn off yet and the elder generations will remember it.. I have that association and never saw it.
I was so happy to see Gilbert on your list as my boyfriend wasn't really sure about it but you literally repeated my arguments for it and I think he's worming up to it now ( it's one of 2 names I'd like for a boy). Absolutely love the list, right up my street ☺️ Much love from both of us 💕💕💕
The name across the decades generator is so fun! I'm a Brittany born in 1989 and in the 1880s I would have been an Emma. My favorite of the bunch was Dorothy for the 1910s.
How cute is that name generator!! My 1880’s name is Elma, so cute! My mums maiden name is Elmes so it feels like a nod to her 🥰 Also love that it says my today name is Aspen, I love it!
I think Demelza is one of the Chasers on the Gryffindor Quidditch team in Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince. I would have to look it up to be certain but if memory serves correctly her name is Demelza Robbins 🤔
My grandma was Daphne, she died just after Bridgerton came out. It was so nice to hear her name so often. And I love the, name. It will be my daughters middle name for sure.
So my name is Alexandria and it was number 77 on the popular charts in 1996 when I was born. Today - Serenity 2018 - Autumn 2017- Emilia 2010- Kylie 2000- Caroline( one of my favorites) 1990- Angela 1980- Dana 1970- Heidi 1960- Katherine 1950- Vickie 1940- Katherine 1930- Theresa 1920- Laura 1910- Vivian 1900- Beulah 1890- May 1880- Katie
Wow the decade name thing is really cool. In the 1920s, my name would be Verna! The 1930s is my all-time favourite name: Violet and my 1910 name is Lottie. Love these names!
My name is Nicole (born in the 90s) and these were my names through the years!! 1880s: Nellie 1890s: Annie 1900s: Grace 1910s: Edna 1920s: Irene 1930s: Frances 1940s: Joyce 1950s: Cheryl 1960s: Brenda 1970s: Sarah 1980s: Lauren 1990s: Victoria (my middle name!!) 2000s: Lauren (again) 2010s: Grace (same as the 1900s!) 2017: Victoria (again) 2018: Aria My name today would be: Mila (love!!) I am thinking Arthur or Antoine (as a nod to Antony) for Bridgerton Boy. BTW I work as a L&D nurse and we had a little boy named Bridger a couple weeks ago.
Saige was the 700th most popular girl name so I got some really good ones: 2018- Chandler 1970s- Noemi 1960s- Kaye 1950s- Graciela 1940s- Georgiana 1930s- Lynette
Loved this video and loving the podcast! My 1880s name would be olive I’m an Isabel so I love that it gave me what is now quite a unique name! Oooo and in the 1960s I would have been Bonnie- I looooove Bonnie and in the 1920s I would have been Pearl!
I would be Alma in the 1880s! Blythe is a very cool name I’m going to keep my eye out for that, also dying to see Hyacinth get used more! As well as Daphne, Penelope, and Eloise from the show. My prediction for their son is either Arthur or Archibald/Archie.
This video was so much fun! I think Hyacinth was my favorite from this list, though I think all of the Bridgerton names were fantastic. My top 3 guesses for Baby A are Arthur, Albert, or August. I also loved name game! My name was ranked 368 in 1992, so my results are as follows: 1880-Zelma 1890-Era 1900-Vada 1910-Mayme 1920-Sophia 1930-Sybil 1940-Olga 1950- Olga 1960- Laurel 1970- Janine 1980- Bobbie 1990- Isabelle 2000- Sasha 2010- Blakely 2017- Averie 2018- Scarlet 2019- Kinley I really like Vada, Sophia, Laurel, Janine, Isabelle, Scarlet, and Kinley!
Rereading Jane Austen atm. They've all got quite classic names. I think the unusual ones today would be Georgiana, Fitzwilliam, though I think Willoughby would work as a first name. Demelza is a minir character in the 6th harry potter book.
I've just done the name generator for the 1880's. I would of been Lugenia back then. Apparently Kimberley was at number 554 back in 1990 when I was born
I've liked Damelza since the mid aughties when I was in high school. I used to watch Australia's next top model and the "villain" of one of the seasons was named Damelza Revelet. She was so beautiful and I loved her name. There was also Katarzyna from America's next top model, but that is a tough one because I think it's polish so you know, lots of letters.
My best friend is called Iris and when the movie came out we went to watch it together in the theater, it was funny when suddenly one of the main people had her name. It's still a great movie!
My name's are Today: Aubree 2010 : London 2000s Gianna 1990:Holly 1980:Renne 1970s :Laurie 1960s : Tonya 1950: Anette 1940: Eleanor 1930:Ida 1920:Mae 1910: Loretta 1900s: Estelle 1890: Amelia 1880: Marion Definitely like the ones before 1960 much more than the new with the exception of Aubree
My name was too rare so it wasn't ranked, si i used my second name Elsa. And here are the names i liked that had the same rank, Fae (1900), Pearle (1910), Coraline, and Adrienne. Adrian would be a nice A name for a boy, I find it quite regal but also very sweet.
I am obsessed with my families names around the late 1800 to 1900. We had, Minnie, Constance (connie) , Lillian (lily/lil), Anastasia(sis) , Florence (Florrie/ Flossie) , Ernie and Eleonora (Nora).
I did my daughter's name just for fun in the name through the ages site and in the 1880's she got her name Ella! I thought that was so cool how it came around full circle like that!
Wow! My name in 1880 would have been Leana! What? My today name would have been Bonnie. There were some interesting names that I found and I may or may not now keep some available for future kid names to consider using. Thanks SJ!
I really enjoyed seeing what my name would've been through the decades, here's what came up for me : Today- Makayla, 2018- Izabella, 2017- Hope, 2010s- Juliette, 2000s- Michaela, 1990s- Mayra, 1980s- Gloria, 1970s- Latasha, 1960s- Lauren, 1950s- Bertha, 1940s- Sandy, 1930s- Angela, 1920s- Cecelia, 1910s- Flossie, 1900s- Elnora, 1890s- Anita, and 1880s- Olivia :) Great video SJ :)
love your baby name videos❤️ here in Cyprus, babies are traditionally named after their grandparents (usually switching up the name’s gender since that’s possible with most Greek names), and so I have this weird fascination for uncommon names, given the fact that I probably won’t have much freedom in naming my future children😅 for instance, I was named after my late grandmother whose name was Γιασεμιά (Giasemia, derived from Jasmine), but my parents decided to give me the even more unusual adaptation of the name haha
I LOVE Eloisa (the Italian version of Eloise) and I also love the character! The first time I heard it, it was the name of a girl from my scout group, I always liked it. We'll see if my partner likes it too.. 🤞
I would have been Marie in the 1880s, Irene in the 1890s, Sarah in the 1900s, Ann in the 1910s, Hazel in the 1920s, Annie in the 30s, Doris in the 40s, Gail in the 50s, Rhonda in the 60s, Sandra in the 70s, Lindsay in the 80s, Shelby in the 90s, Kaylee in the 00s, Penelope in the 10s, Ellie in 2017, Aurora in 2018, Aubrey now.
My 1880s name was Stella, 1890s was Ada, 1900s was Jessie, 1910s was Viola, and 1930s was Marlene. It says my name today would have been Naomi. I love them all lol!
Tried that link out. For my husband, Peter, he would've been named Brett in the 70s. His dad is named Brett, but was born in the 60s so Peter said his grandma was a "trend setter" lol!
Everdeen is also the last name of Katniss and Primrose in The Hunger Games.
Hyacinth just reminds me of Keeping Up Appearances 😂
I was just about to say the same thing, lol.
You beat me to it.
Great show!
Exactly
Same! 😂
I always think of Otto as an old name as it was the name of anne Frank's father. Love how old names are now coming back.
Otto is one of my absolute favs!
I think Otto is a cute name. My only association is the 7 year old child of youtuber Life with Beans. I have Otto on my list as a nickname for Elliot.
@@kateg9437 Wow never heard of Otto as a nickname for Elliot. Good idea though! x
My brother is Otto (he’s 27) as our grandmother is German. It is a very old man name there!
That's the first thing I think of too
I went to school with twins that were called Daphne and Demelza.
Always loved how that sounds together 💜
Admittedly, I misread the title of this video before watching, and I thought the list was for the 1980’s. I was certain SJ was going to give us Jennifer, Jessica, and Tiffany.

Bridgerton is set in the 1810s and the list you used is from 1880. Georgian and Victorian names are really interesting. Love the name Gilbert. I think of it from the Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.
Exactly.
Came to say this exact thing. There’s such a difference in the periods!

I love that game where you put your name in!!😂 I’ve been doing it with every baby name on my list too to find new ones

I am thinking Arthur or Antoine (as a nod to Antony) for Bridgerton Boy. BTW I work as a L&D nurse and we had a little boy named Bridger a couple weeks ago.

Blythe is a very cool name I’m going to keep my eye out for that, also dying to see Hyacinth get used more! As well as Daphne, Penelope, and Eloise from the show. My prediction for their son is either Arthur or Archibald/Archie.
I love Hyacinth too, but I was constantly thinking how Helena was also a fitting H name! Love it!
This video was so much fun! I think Hyacinth was my favorite from this list, though I think all of the Bridgerton names were fantastic. My top 3 guesses for Baby A are Arthur, Albert, or August. I also loved name game! My name was ranked 368 in 1992, so my results are as follows:
1880-Zelma
1890-Era
1900-Vada
1910-Mayme
1920-Sophia
1930-Sybil

I really like Vada, Sophia, Laurel, Janine, Isabelle, Scarlet, and Kinley!
Rereading Jane Austen atm. They've all got quite classic names. I think the unusual ones today would be Georgiana, Fitzwilliam, though I think Willoughby would work as a first name.
Demelza is a minir character in the 6th harry potter book.
SJ, what about Shirley? That is a beautiful name 😍
I’m from Cornwall and Demelza is very popular and all of the rest of the ones from Poldark 😄 Also my 1890s name would’ve been Patience which I Lovee
I've just done the name generator for the 1880's. I would of been Lugenia back then. Apparently Kimberley was at number 554 back in 1990 when I was born
I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and we're calling her Margo Violet Edie 💗
you both have great names, and good luck!(: stay safe!
My 1930s name would have been Opal. How cool! And it happens to be on my baby name list. Ha!
Love your channel! We got our little gender reveal tomorrow ❤️ Good thing you help us out finding the perfect name
I have loved Iris ever since watching the holiday!😂
Omg that movie is amazing! xxx
My best friend is called Iris and when the movie came out we went to watch it together in the theater, it was funny when suddenly one of the main people had her name. It's still a great movie!
@@SJ_Strum yes I love it too! Xxx
We have Penelope and expecting baby sister who we THINK we’ll name Daphne!
Hyacinth reminds me of mrs bucket from keeping up appearances lol
Loooove Sybil nn Billie! My sister's cat is Sybil though. Is that a no go?
Amherst is a favorite vintage name of mine for a boy, a girl can dream!

I adored this so much, I’m loving your podcast also
I did my daughter's name just for fun in the name through the ages site and in the 1880's she got her name Ella! I thought that was so cool how it came around full circle like that!
I love the name Collin. When I hear the Hyacinth I think of the British show Keeping Up Appearances. I love the show, but turns me off the name. 🤣.
For some reason the name generator doesn’t go to 1880 for my name but in 1900 apparently I’d have been called Alleine!
I predict August for The new Bridgerton babe. (Following the newest royal)
My name is Haylee and my 1880s name would have been Rosella. Such a cute name!
Wow! My name in 1880 would have been Leana! What? My today name would have been Bonnie. There were some interesting names that I found and I may or may not now keep some available for future kid names to consider using. Thanks SJ!
I really enjoyed seeing what my name would've been through the decades, here's what came up for me : Today- Makayla, 2018- Izabella, 2017- Hope, 2010s- Juliette, 2000s- Michaela, 1990s- Mayra, 1980s- Gloria, 1970s- Latasha, 1960s- Lauren, 1950s- Bertha, 1940s- Sandy, 1930s- Angela, 1920s- Cecelia, 1910s- Flossie, 1900s- Elnora, 1890s- Anita, and 1880s- Olivia :) Great video SJ :)
love your baby name videos❤️ here in Cyprus, babies are traditionally named after their grandparents (usually switching up the name’s gender since that’s possible with most Greek names), and so I have this weird fascination for uncommon names, given the fact that I probably won’t have much freedom in naming my future children😅
for instance, I was named after my late grandmother whose name was Γιασεμιά (Giasemia, derived from Jasmine), but my parents decided to give me the even more unusual adaptation of the name haha
1880s version of Charlotte us Rosetta! I love that!
Sybil was on our list but went with Naomi x
My 1880s name was Stella, 1890s was Ada, 1900s was Jessie, 1910s was Viola, and 1930s was Marlene. It says my name today would have been Naomi. I love them all lol!
Tried that link out. For my husband, Peter, he would've been named Brett in the 70s. His dad is named Brett, but was born in the 60s so Peter said his grandma was a "trend setter" lol!
One name I liked from Anne of green gables was Minnie-may
My name is wanda and it would have been Caroline in the 1880s and now it would be Quinn. That was fun.
