Lol....Abilene is the name of a city here in Texas. However, we pronounce it with a short A, like the A in the word absolute. Fun fact, I randomly went by Terra for about 2 years in college. Never been called that before by any friends or family but I just decided to re-invent myself after a kinda tough time/breakup, and just corrected the teacher with the new name when the first day of school happened. It was fun while it lasted but eventually came back to Theresa as it just suited me much better. Felt nice to reclaim it for myself in the end. This is probably why I really prefer longer names with plenty of nickname options because you just never know what'll feel exactly right but at least you have a solid foundation to start with.
SJ, I’m sure you can relate here!! I’m Scandinavian but my partner is American. We want names that sound beautiful in either languages but arent top 10 popular names like Emily/Emilie, Oscar/Oskar, etc. Any suggestions?
Oren is a hebrew name that means pine tree I love it!! I also recently came across the name Quigley I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough but it's adorable!

There is a haunted mansion in Louisiana called The Myrtles so between moaning Myrtle and the haunted mansion it sounds so spooky! But the name itself is gorgeous
Well my sweet little girl’s name finally made SJ’s list! I have a 2 year old, Delta Kathryn who is such a joy & definitely lives up to the profound name she’s been given. We picked her name for links to family but also because of the mathematical meaning of change hoping she will be a world changer!! Awesome name for a strong little lady!❤️
👍 I think my favs are Callyx and Pepper, if I used Pepper in the future I think I'd double barrel it, making it the 2nd part of the double barrel name (if I could think of the prefect name to go first) (but they're my opinion for you) :) A-Z naming is a good challenge to do 👏
Awe, the name Pepper makes me so happy! 💕 I know of two people named Orrin. One is an odd character on Parks & Rec, the other is my friend’s very odd husband.
Ok here are my favorite names from the video; Abilene (in America I’ve heard it pronounced Abba-Lean like as in the place in Texas but I love the way you say it!) Delta (if it wasn’t a name of a airline I would 💯 use it!) Florens Garland (bc of the iconic Judy garland love it!) Ivory Kerith (my cousins name is Kharis which means grace so this could be another option) Mertile Orrin Terra (I like it spelled Tara personally tho:) Yves Zinnea (love Linnea pronounced La-Ney-Ah which is a flower in Sweden)
@@HelenGraceC I hadn’t either until I researched city names because all of my siblings and I are named after cities (using my cousins account rn so that’s why you see Olivia haha). Also just wanted to point out how gorgeous your name is I love it!
Oh thank you for reminding me of the name Abilene! It's really lovely. I remember there was a character in the movie The Help with this name and I thought it was really great.
I was sold on ivory for a long time until my mum said about the pouching aspect of the name so we finally settled on Renée for my little lady who was born last month because I like very different names and my partner liked more genetic names so we compromised .. if it was completely down to me she would of been called Sunday !
Myrtle is the name we picked for our second daughter (if we’ll have one, since there’s one name we like just a little bit more, so that’s the first baby girl)
Garland was my grandfather’s name. I’ve always thought it would be a special name to incorporate for a Christmastime baby. P.S. Love your channel, SJ! We just welcomed our first baby a couple weeks ago, and I watched SO many of your vids during pregnancy. We named him Nathan Russell. 💙
Calyx, the botanical term, is pronounced Kay-lix, so that's an option if you don't like the soft 'a' of Callyx. I wonder if Callyx is more of a made-up name inspired by the botanical term. I like both. I love the name Orrin. It's a contender along with Orson (bear cub) for my little one due in August :)

@@rubymoon1487 Harsh opinion alert. Everleigh is the best example of this new "white americans' name trend" - adding a bunch of unnecessary letters, loving y, z, x and silent h, adding lynn to every existing name and turning ly into leigh for no reason. So you end up with Masely, Maizely, Mayzzlee, Maiseleigh and Maezhelee in one class. Pronounced the same. And a Krisjen instead of Christian. Trying to be unique through "alterative" misspellings just means your child will have to say "hi, I'm Everleigh with l-e-i-g-h" their whole life. "Hi, I'm Jaxon with a x". The Kinzlee trend.
OMG !! I LOVE NIRVANA ! Not sure id use it as a first name as the amount of comments youd get from people would drive me crazy ....but id definitely use it in the middle spot! I love love love DELTA too but for the same reason couldnt use it as Delta is a famous singer here in Australia

I'm due with my baby girl May 31st. We are thinking of naming her Georgiana Fae. Neither are ranked in the US where we live. My two thoughts/questions are: 1: Is it okay that the name meanings aren't very special/meaningful? As far as I can tell it's Georgiana - Farmer and Fae - Fairy. 2. We want to call her Georgi for short. I love the name Georgi as a nickname. I do not like Ana as a nickname though and am I maybe setting myself up for her having that at some point? What do you all think? Georgiana Fae?
If you don’t like the nickname ‘Ana’, you could always name her Georgina (very well known in the U.K. at least and I’ve never heard it shortened to anything other than Georgie or George)
I prefer the spelling Faye, but I think it’s a lovely middle name. LOVE Georgiana. It reminds me of Pride and Prejudice. And Georgie is such a cute nickname.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have their youngest daughter called Delta
I know someone called jessamine! Never heard the name before until I met her
Oren is a hebrew name that means pine tree I love it!! I also recently came across the name Quigley I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough but it's adorable!
I wanted to name one of my boys Oren but my husband wasn't having it.
Said the name Abilene to my boyfriend and he turns to me and says “Maybe it’s Abilene” from the advert Maybe it’s maybeline and I couldn’t help but laugh and now I can’t unhear it 😭😂
You should do a video with teachers favorite rare names! Previous students names that they still love or names that they would love to have in their classroom someday 😍
I just can't get behind Yves... here in Quebec it's an old man's name 😅 literally everyone has an uncle Yves (we don't pronounce the S) in their family
Same for me here in France, i just can't imagine a baby Yves 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha yep, my husband is Quebecois and there's an uncle called Yves 🤣 Hey... if you were set on a Y name Yves is better than Yannick
@@jessicastory4010 agreed 😅
There is a haunted mansion in Louisiana called The Myrtles so between moaning Myrtle and the haunted mansion it sounds so spooky! But the name itself is gorgeous
In the netherlands we spell florens like floris as a boy name xx
I am so unbelievably picky and I had to add lathan to my list. I love the way it sounds. We will see if it sticks and stays on my list
Awesome name for a strong little lady!❤️
i’m really loving the podcast!!
What a cool list. Zinnia is my favourite. I have these flowers growing in my garden and they are so so beautiful!
👍 I think my favs are Callyx and Pepper, if I used Pepper in the future I think I'd double barrel it, making it the 2nd part of the double barrel name (if I could think of the prefect name to go first) (but they're my opinion for you) :) A-Z naming is a good challenge to do 👏
I have a character named Abilene in one of my books! I fell in love with it when I discovered it.
Awe, the name Pepper makes me so happy! 💕 I know of two people named Orrin. One is an odd character on Parks & Rec, the other is my friend’s very odd husband.
Ok here are my favorite names from the video;
Abilene (in America I’ve heard it pronounced Abba-Lean like as in the place in Texas but I love the way you say it!)
Delta (if it wasn’t a name of a airline I would 💯 use it!)
Florens
Garland (bc of the iconic Judy garland love it!)
Ivory
Kerith (my cousins name is Kharis which means grace so this could be another option)
Mertile
Orrin
Terra (I like it spelled Tara personally tho:)
Yves
Zinnea (love Linnea pronounced La-Ney-Ah which is a flower in Sweden)
That's so cool as I've never heard of Abilene at all!!!! Xx
@@HelenGraceC I hadn’t either until I researched city names because all of my siblings and I are named after cities (using my cousins account rn so that’s why you see Olivia haha). Also just wanted to point out how gorgeous your name is I love it!
@@giannaromano8413 oh really that is so cool!! Ha aww thank you!! 💗💗xx
Just realised I said so cool twice haha!!!! Xx
My Mom’s name is Grace, and her sister Robin named her daughter Caris ☺️
Oh my goodness I love Ivory(Rory) and Sequoia!😍 Could you do a Native American name list, please? 😄
Oh thank you for reminding me of the name Abilene! It's really lovely. I remember there was a character in the movie The Help with this name and I thought it was really great.
I love Jessamine! I've had it on my name list for a long time. I also especially like Zinnia, Woodrow, Delta, and Orrin.
My friend is an Abilene! It’s also a city name in Kansas and Texas. It’s actually pronounced it with a short “a” sound (like the “a” in “Abby.”)
Abilene is the name of the maid from The Help (spelt differently). Her son was called Treelore, so has a nature link - I guess.
We named our baby girl the Hebrew equivalent of Myrtle (Hadassa) ...I love it...!
for a new color name- xanadu! it’s a variant of sage green, almost like a light grey green, very earthy and botanical too
For botanical names my crushes right now are Thyme such as the herb. And Zaire which means blossoming flower.
I’m having a baby in 4 weeks, looking forward to some ideas. This is our 5th and we are struggling for names 🤣 x
Would love to help suggest names for the newcomer :) I flatter myself that I’m quite good with baby names myself
Do you have a theme with the names for your other children that we could go off of or any names that you like, but don’t have a middle name for?
Ivory was my grandmother's name. I've always thought it was so beautiful and unique
Yves is a boy's name. It was my grandfather's name.
Abilene is a town in Texas, but it IS pronounced with an “Ah” sound as opposed to the English pronunciation that you give. AH-be-leen.
Tell me you’ve been watching SJ BabyName lists for too long without telling me.
I just saw the word Whirlwind and thought “hm would that be cute in a middle spot?”😂💙
omg omg omg!!!! hartford is suchhhhh a pretty nameeeee! man im really in love with it! thnku sooooo much sj, just thnkuuuuuuuu, i lovveeee this name!!!!! eeeeeeeeeeeep!
Opinions on Everleigh? Is there a prefered spelling? I'm loving the name but I'm not sure the best way to spell it. Xx
I love the spelling of "Everly" personally, followed by "Everlie" 😊
Helga Barton okay thank you for this! This was my concern as I love the name! I think Everly actually looks prettier in my opinion.
Ruby Saldana thank you for your comment! I’m really liking Everly!
OMG !! I LOVE NIRVANA ! Not sure id use it as a first name as the amount of comments youd get from people would drive me crazy ....but id definitely use it in the middle spot! I love love love DELTA too but for the same reason couldnt use it as Delta is a famous singer here in Australia
Allium
Botany or Barley
Coriander
Fern
Hawthorn - what I would have been named if I was a boy after my father's Uncle whose nickname was "Happy"
Nantes
Petal
Sitka
Viney - used to be a nickname for ask the old fashioned names like Malvina, Lavinia etc
Wheaten
Yarrow
The first way you pronounced Terra is the way my name is pronounced. My y makes the long e sound. I’ve never seen my name on a list of yours and was excited to hear just the pronunciation of my name even if it wasn’t the same spelling 😁
I love Pepper! I associate it with the characters in Marvel and Good Omens. I had a dog named Pyper so I personally can't use it, but I will always get excited about it and encourage others to use it.
In the US we say it like BAY-zuhl
I would love a list of names from Shakespeare’s plays. There are some great ones there!
I love the name Delta! I had a cat for years named Delta Dawn after the Tonya Tucker song.
I'm due with my baby girl May 31st. We are thinking of naming her Georgiana Fae. Neither are ranked in the US where we live. My two thoughts/questions are:
1: Is it okay that the name meanings aren't very special/meaningful? As far as I can tell it's Georgiana - Farmer and Fae - Fairy.
2. We want to call her Georgi for short. I love the name Georgi as a nickname. I do not like Ana as a nickname though and am I maybe setting myself up for her having that at some point?
What do you all think? Georgiana Fae?
I love Georgiana!! But not a big fan of Fae unless there is some sentimental significance ... maybe Georgiana Mae? Georgie is adorable ♥️
I started a tiktok account for hungarian baby names, and it blew up! I’m so excited! 😍 Thank you for embracing loving names, now I can as well! Love you SJ! 🤗❤️
