TheNewGuy5271 He did the same thing in another recent vid. "Mountain, Llanowar Elves, go." I can't for the life of me tell whether Seth is making fun of his habit of mispronouncing card names or if he just doesn't even realize it.
For game 1 against mardu pyromancer, why didn't you just use sac the hope of ghirapur knowing that the opponent has 2 young pyromancer to stop them from casting noncreature spells?
36:48 Agreeing with that. Sac the hope then cast the other in hand would have been a pretty nice play i suppose. You would have gain time. Very nice video and content anyway :)
I made a version of this deck a little while ago. Still had the djinn's and Vault skirges, but I used free stuff like chalice, mishra's bauble, ornathopter, and mox opal to play other big 3 mana flyers like esperzoa and illusory angel. Chalice also doubles as a good hate card for most removal since it can be played turn 2 on 1. It is janky, but I had fun times with really big turns 3-5.
"So, what did we learn?" We learned that Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp isn't ever good. Get rid of it and you don't have to run the artifact subtheme either. Also, Echoing Truth is good.
I agree with the concession against pyromancer game 1 but I have to point out that fatal push didn't change anything. Hope is legendary so you had the same number of blockers either way. You concede no matter what since you're on 0% but push shouldn't have been a factor in that.
Just asking, why is the deck playing familiar over mausoleum wanderer? The wanderer can counter things for more with favorable winds, and pumps redundant copies.
Why not combine this build with a Blue Steel Stompy kind of build? One with Illusory Angels, Ornithopters, Mishra's Baubles, Springleaf Drums, etc. I feel like something like that could be extremely powerful and still pretty cheap.
Hey Seth, have you seen the Haphazard Bombardment Temur deck using bombardment and Memorial to War + Ramunap Excavator to destroy all the opponents lands? It's super cool and almost in Budget Magic range, and it's gonna get even better with the reprint of Crucible of Worlds.
I don't know Seth, I feel like in game 3 against the Goryo deck you tried to play a bit too conservatively. Had you played vault skirge before, you may have gotten that extra point of damage you needed. I believe this deck, even though it has counters, it shouldn't be played as a pure control, like you kind of did. I mean, it has favourable winds in it, and that's a pretty aggressive card ;) Anyway, great content, as always
37:20 ish - Seth, the people saying that that is an early scoop don't know what they're talking about. There _are_ times when you scoop early, but that is *not* one of them.
I want to see Marrow Shard played against some of these decks in Modern. 1 W/Phyrexian mana: deal 1 damage to each attacking creature. I think it would actually work against Pyromancer/Affinity decks and a lot of other small creatures. I think that would be a good "against the odds/budget" card to try. At least in the sideboard
I feel like you probably should've sacced Hope against pyromancer since it shuts off all of their instants and sorceries. Wouldve cut them off from making tokens. Even drew the second hope that turn.
It's weird, this video makes this deck seem good, but I tested it out on my own on tappedout and it seems to always only win on turn six. Which isn't too bad for a deck that can counter I guess.
Rex One I think it's just the fact that this deck is trying to be as cheap as possible. I know, Mana leak isn't that expensive, but with the amount of fliers, it's like blue weenie with a way to time walk their opponent's heavy hitters (remand) while they continue to beat down. But idk, you're not wrong or anything.
I don't understand taking out all of your Vapor Snags against the reanimation deck, then getting stomped by Worldspine Wurm. Also, Hope of Girapur doesn't prevent instants and sorceries, it prevents *all noncreature* spells.
I'm pretty sure it's incorrect to remand a flashback faithless looting. Speaking of the pyromancer match the game 1 scoop against 10 YP tokens was 100% correct but I'm pretty sure the game 2 scoop against 2 lingering souls was too soon.
I heard play a mountain like 2-3 times during this recording in you’re MONO BLUE DECK... IT ALSO FOCUSES OF TEMPEST DJINN WHO NEEDS ISLANDS SPECIFICALLY
I have this list that I have been playing for a while and doing pretty well with if you’re interested tappedout.net/mtg-decks/28-08-17-Vur-mono-green-stompy/
Game 1 against hollow one, you missed lethal a turn sooner. had you played favorable winds instead of the djiin, copter wouldn't have died to bolt, and you could have crewed in response to the bolt, leaving you with 6 untapped flying power while they were at 5.
hope of girapur is amazing against mardu because you can just stop them from casting all of their instant and sorcery spells that are about 90% of there spell base.
How can Signal Pest be "not very impressive"? It was never played, I don't think it was even drawn during any of the games, based on what was it judged? lol Awesome deck tech anyways, I was surprised at how well it worked out overall
Hey Seth, a while ago you played this deck: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/744458#paper I really liked it and recently started to build it to have a little fun in modern, but as a pauper player i always wondered if it wouldn't be better to go full islands and use Spire golem and tempest djinn. Which version of "MonoU Winds" do you reccomend for modern?
MTGGoldfish I apologize I had forgotten you were not at home base! I was just wanting to hear the spoilers dished out in your amazing voice and there are a lot of fantastic cards that I would like to hear your opinions on. I knew you’ll get to it when you can, I just forgot about Vegas and stuff. Have fun tho! Plus great video might be my groups next budget mtg deck 😁
3 island, 3 copter, and 1 favorable winds is a horrible keep. Super greedy and basically a mull to 5 with no creatures. You can loot them away, sure.. If you draw a creature and they don't kill the first copter and you have to play another the next turn and then loot after that.. Meanwhile you have 1 creature, or dead copters from drawing actual creatures.
9:03 "Play a Mountain"
Never Change Seth
TheNewGuy5271 He did the same thing in another recent vid. "Mountain, Llanowar Elves, go." I can't for the life of me tell whether Seth is making fun of his habit of mispronouncing card names or if he just doesn't even realize it.
TheNewGuy5271 dude I went STRAIGHT to the comments after hearing him say that and was rewarded
purrr snaggg
Opponent can't Goryo's Vengeance at 27:40 - Worldspine Wurm is famous but not legendary.
9:05 islands are mountains apparently
Probably better known as, “my favorite mtg content creator.”
"Play a Looter Scooter"
Please never change, Seth.
You're a blessing to us all. 😂
My favorite blue beater is a 5/6 and healthy vegetarian option too, Seth. I love that Salad is a card that can see play in modern
For game 1 against mardu pyromancer, why didn't you just use sac the hope of ghirapur knowing that the opponent has 2 young pyromancer to stop them from casting noncreature spells?
36:48
Agreeing with that. Sac the hope then cast the other in hand would have been a pretty nice play i suppose. You would have gain time.
Very nice video and content anyway :)
Missed a great opportunity to call the deck Favorable Djinns!
I love watching your videos, they are very fun to watch
games start at 7:38
Mono blue Djin...
Mono U-Djin...
MONO UGIN
HO-PUH-GURR-UH-PURR
Hurpa Gurpa is my favorite vehicle.
Lars John - No idea what you mean. Hulpa is a creature in its own right.
CrimsiN my cat uses exactly that pronunciation.
ehrmagherd.....hrpr grpr
I made a version of this deck a little while ago. why take out vapor snag against the grishoalbrand? they take care of all ops threats
I'm blown away by how well this worked!
I love that little owl crewing the copter xD
Why not mausoleum wanderer instead of judge's familiar ?
Alvar Espinosa probably price. Wanderer does the same thing in this deck since there’s no spirits.
Niko Lara But with favorable winds opponents have to pay 2 instead of 1 and other copies can give +1/+1.
I was thinking the same thing (since I'm a Spirits player and wanderer is never far from my mind
@Niko wanderer is like 60c though...
daweisguy454 nice to meet a fellow spirits player!
"So, what did we learn?"
We learned that Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp isn't ever good. Get rid of it and you don't have to run the artifact subtheme either. Also, Echoing Truth is good.
we also learned that it is pronounced Salad, dijn of the lamp
16:40 couldn’t you have killed opponent by playing favourable winds?
I agree with the concession against pyromancer game 1 but I have to point out that fatal push didn't change anything. Hope is legendary so you had the same number of blockers either way. You concede no matter what since you're on 0% but push shouldn't have been a factor in that.
Wow that mtgo interface brings back memories. I’m sure it looks the exact same still
I was iffy about this until I saw that it was modern. Now I'm all in on this
Ah, the return of Salad, everybody's favorite Djinn
So this is what it's come to. We're just calling Zahid "Salad" now. And I like it.
Just asking, why is the deck playing familiar over mausoleum wanderer? The wanderer can counter things for more with favorable winds, and pumps redundant copies.
yeah u're right.
he just didn't care or tough in it i think
Price could also be an issue
Zakana the card is around 60c
Probably wanted to see more of Judges Familiar’s sweet art
Why not combine this build with a Blue Steel Stompy kind of build? One with Illusory Angels, Ornithopters, Mishra's Baubles, Springleaf Drums, etc. I feel like something like that could be extremely powerful and still pretty cheap.
SETH! Words cannot express how much I've missed you and your content. Hope Vegas was the business, will be listening to the Podcast next XD
I've missed all of you too! I'm flying home today and hoping to get back on track whenever I manage to wake up tomorrow!
Favorable Djinn's
Hey Seth? Can you let your opponents play out their combos if they're lesser known? Specifically in that Grishoalbrand matchup.
I believe this deck, even though it has counters, it shouldn't be played as a pure control, like you kind of did. I mean, it has favourable winds in it, and that's a pretty aggressive card ;)
Anyway, great content, as always
This might be true. Rather than trying to shift into the control roll we might have been better off going more aggressive.
sweet deck. i feel like it needs grand architect and master of waves.
37:20 ish - Seth, the people saying that that is an early scoop don't know what they're talking about. There _are_ times when you scoop early, but that is *not* one of them.
For non budget some blue fetches and U/X duel lands allows you to splash into a different color and still have all islands.
Omg you said play a mountain when you meant island!!!!! Never letting you live this down !!!! ;)
Nice mountains, Seth lol
I want to see Marrow Shard played against some of these decks in Modern. 1 W/Phyrexian mana: deal 1 damage to each attacking creature. I think it would actually work against Pyromancer/Affinity decks and a lot of other small creatures. I think that would be a good "against the odds/budget" card to try. At least in the sideboard
“fire up the looter scooter” LOL
Does master of waves fit in here?
I've seriously been thinking that Tempest Djinn has some play in Modern Merfolk due to just this.
I feel like you probably should've sacced Hope against pyromancer since it shuts off all of their instants and sorceries. Wouldve cut them off from making tokens. Even drew the second hope that turn.
Is Mausoleum Wanderer better then Judge’s Familiar in this deck?
I feel like vapor snag would be good against vengvine
You can't goryo's Worldspine wurm because it isn't legendary just FYI. :)
Finallyyyyyyyy!!!!
It's SALAD time!
I'm not sure why you don't play Mausoleum Wanderer over Judge's Familiar. It's strictly superior and only 15 cents more.
$ Familiar is a bit cheaper.
Isn't the 1/1 flying spirit just strictly better than judges familiar in this deck?
Yo seth what would be the non budget version of this deck?
What would you change?
There's allways one in the article.
I think it's salad time 13:01
It's weird, this video makes this deck seem good, but I tested it out on my own on tappedout and it seems to always only win on turn six. Which isn't too bad for a deck that can counter I guess.
Not first, but happy to be here early. This is quite spicy!
couldnt you replace winds with something else, that card is "win more" and remand returns the spell to their hand, play better counters?
Rex One I think it's just the fact that this deck is trying to be as cheap as possible. I know, Mana leak isn't that expensive, but with the amount of fliers, it's like blue weenie with a way to time walk their opponent's heavy hitters (remand) while they continue to beat down. But idk, you're not wrong or anything.
Rex One Remand does draw a card, which can often be relevant
It's not win more with your one drops
Think of Remand not as a counter, but as an early Time Walk. In a tempo deck like this, that is much better than a counter.
This might as well be my first modern deck in mtgo. Does anyone recommend or not recommend it? I have played pauper before.
Remanding a flashbacked card will exile it.
11:58 Why is the player rewards Lightning Bolt online have a blue border? Someone messed up.
I heard play a mountain like 2-3 times during this recording in you’re MONO BLUE DECK... IT ALSO FOCUSES OF TEMPEST DJINN WHO NEEDS ISLANDS SPECIFICALLY
Aidan Smith In you’re deck? Yeah, I’d play a mountain in that one
You should do Trickster Shadow to flash in during combat for random 13/13 ambush
Mausoleum Wanderer ?
It is strictly better here, but is currently running 1.23 tix. Familiar is only .04. That might be the reasoning.
Bello !!!
Bello !!!
Bello !!!
You should revisit mono green stompy
Agreed! I was actually working on a list just before leaving for Vegas!
I have this list that I have been playing for a while and doing pretty well with if you’re interested
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/28-08-17-Vur-mono-green-stompy/
mr olive, your fans are brutal
Game 1 against hollow one, you missed lethal a turn sooner. had you played favorable winds instead of the djiin, copter wouldn't have died to bolt, and you could have crewed in response to the bolt, leaving you with 6 untapped flying power while they were at 5.
hope of girapur is amazing against mardu because you can just stop them from casting all of their instant and sorcery spells that are about 90% of there spell base.
brian davis It turns off sorcery spells, it not completely on the instants.
How can Signal Pest be "not very impressive"? It was never played, I don't think it was even drawn during any of the games, based on what was it judged? lol
Awesome deck tech anyways, I was surprised at how well it worked out overall
Probably the one match he didn't show.
Another blue deck. Who would have guessed.
13:02 and 13:08 - Is "Salad" a nickname for Zahid, or is this Seth just Sethin' up some more pronunciations?
9:04 Wow, this mountain looks weird.
Hey Seth, a while ago you played this deck:
www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/744458#paper
I really liked it and recently started to build it to have a little fun in modern, but as a pauper player i always wondered if it wouldn't be better to go full islands and use Spire golem and tempest djinn. Which version of "MonoU Winds" do you reccomend for modern?
why is there a disdainful stroke rather than just a normal counterspell? It's all islands so it won't pose a disavantage to you.
That last game you scooped too early lol
Is "Remand" better than "Counterspell" in this deck?
Arthur Kimes counterspell is not modern legal.
ha ha ha, of course.
Remand is basically an early game time walk.
I feel like salad didn't pull his weight
If I had a nickl for every "and opponent scoopes it up!.....welllllll" I'd have 6 bucks
Le Seth just playing standard decks in modern
Why remand vs a counter like disallow?
tempo + card draw
At its best Remand is an early game time walk. In a tempo deck (which this is) that is HUGE!
What's wrong with Aether vial?
The price.
Smuggler's Copter not is banned?
Jean Guedes
It’s banned in standard, not in modern
thanks.
Why judges familiar over mausoleum wanderer?
It's a bit cheaper.
Anyone else hear a weird clip of Seth's voice at the very beginning of the episide? Like literally as it starts
Maybe Zahid is terrible and trading him and the artifacts for Delver and more draw/removal is the answer.
In this deck tempest djinn feels like tarmogoyf
It's so good!
Instead of dismember why not reality shift? It saves you the life
I think becuase the mana cost (better just 1 mana for this kind of deck) and the 2/2 morph it leaves
Alvar Espinosa *manifest
Smuggler's Copter definitely should not be in standard. I mean, it's easily the best card in this deck.
Seems like every time I play Smuggler's Copter it ends up being the best card in the deck.
Okay but why not mosoleum wanderer.
Also when playing djinn, where's the thasa? C'mon man.
29:17 you should have just swung and you would have won in the air
Oh my god he didn't say Salad
heh "Looter scooter"
Didn't he just play mono blue in standard twice.... Oh its modern - let's see how that works
9:06 XD
Soooo those core set 2019 spoilers though...
I'm so sad that I'm missing daily spoiler videos. I'll be home tomorrow and we'll catch up. The set is absurd!!!!!
7:38
9:03 play a what?!
Why not wanderer over familiar. .. wanderer is just better all around.
Judge's Familiar is a bit cheaper for the budget.
instead of playing the crappy spire golem, why not put in something useful .like into the roil or invisible stalker
Because... spire golem is far better?
Play a mountain.... In a mono blue deck 😂
Oupounent
"Play a mountain" clearly an island. Seth plays too many red decks.
Why not play thoughtcast?
Because it's rarely better than divination
