I remember this episode, I hope you keep coming back to old episodes. It's a great walk down memory lane for us long time viewers and really cool decks for everyone.
@@naphackDT its burn. The voal of magic is to not die while killing the opponent. Dispel keeps him alive against a deck of mainly instants, while lash takes a land.
I'd love to revisit some more old budget decks, but I suppose that will rely on price changes and obsolescence as new sets come out. Also, 18:28 was hilarious!
This was one of the first decks I bought on MTGO, excited to see it brought back. Is it possible that Desolate Lighthouse is better than Mikokoro, since we don't want to draw our opponent out of their screw?
I played this deck in a budget modern tournament. I included one copy of Hanweir Watchkeep to have another finisher. It's cheap, survives your Wildfire, and closes out the game fast once your opponent can't cast spells anymore. Also Singing Bell Strike as additional removal in the sideboard. Sure you may pay 6 to untap your creature.
Revisiting cool decks like this is great. The next best thing about this video was your choice of mountains. The ice cream sundae is one of the coolest arts, even if it does make me hungry.
Should absolutely do this more in the future. So happy to see eminent domain return. I actually played this back when it first came out on budget magic. 👍
I'd love to see updated versions of older decks, whether they be Budget Magic or Against the Odds. That would be a bunch of fun to see how they changed with updates and meta changes.
Hey Seth, love the revisit! It would be cool if you also showed the old deck list (to see how things have changed) and maybe just mentioned how the deck performed originally (record).
I like this idea. Maybe you can make a new series called Fishbowl Flashback where you visit old Budget Magic, Much Abrew, Against the Odds, and maybe even Playing Pauper lists? I would love to see some old much abrew decks updated.
Ever since I tried you haphazard ponza deck, I can no longer stop blowing up lands seth. This deck looks so sweet, though I'm not sure what advantage this has over classic G/R Ponza. Also, I would definitely love to see you updating old decks, especially so if it involves adding newly printed cards.
It should be nice to see more old list getting updates, sure go ahead. PD: the third game against burn... You teached me that i should keep cards that I side board in, yet you throw both dispels, that could have give you more time to get to the Titan along the mikokoro.
great video Seth. It is right up there with your green red land destruction video. I was looking for a deck to play around that time. I first found your videos through Land Destruction. keep up the good work.
Love the idea of revisiting older decks! What if you didn't limit it to Budget Magic, and instead had weekly/biweekly/monthly/when-I-feel-like-it program where you update an older Budget/Odds/Abrew deck? With a viewer poll for the next old deck to get a rework. You could call it... Return to Goldfish? Or, depending on the deck varient being reworked that week, Shadows over Budget Magic? Improve the Odds? More Abrew About Nothing? While we're at it, I cast my first vote for Budget Magic Origins UR Thopters!
Yes! I would love to see more revisits to budget magic decks. It'd also be sweet if you could revisit old against the odds decks. Like see if any of the ones that did poorly or just so so are any better with new tools.
Hey Seth this was my first deck in mtgo and its always been super fun to play. There is nothing better then assembling an opponents tron. If you do any retro against the odds you have to do a remake of the psychogenic probe deck!
55:00 Should have wild fired the bridge vine deck one turn sooner. They would have only made one zombie that you said would be a million. You gave them the chance to build up a massive board state the very next turn. If they didn't have lands, they wouldn't have been able to get their vengvines out of the graveyard.
@@MTGGoldfish in this particular case, had you done it earlier, they would have had one zombie, then, next turn they got two vengevines and two zombies with their two xx creatures. The very next turn anger would have exiled their recursive vengevines. I'm not saying it was winnable considering they were drawing lands at a freakish rate despite only having 17 but it would have given a few more draws than you got. The amazing ability of hindsight from your viewers is great, don't you think? I should have started my original comment with: Great stuff as always. Updating these old decks with new and reprinted cards is a very cool idea for your fans.
I like doing deck updates maybe once a month or so. A lot of the older shells are solid, but have some new and cheaper tools that we can slot into them today.
Re-hashing is a great thing to do every couple of years in a game like magic. I'd love to see updated versions of against the odds decks that you personally believe have been improved or are worth a second chance for glory because of newer cards being released. I'm sure you'll figure out a way to shoehorn panharmonicon into something. lol
I love this idea of updating older budget decks to be budget decks in today's world. I would also like, if it's at all possible, to see some budget decks with competitive updates. Imagine how consistent and good this deck would be with Steam Vents, Scalding Tarns, and Spirebluff Canals.
Also, could you not fit Spell Pierce under the budget if you replaced the Negates with them? Leaving them no lands means they likely won't be able to pay the 2 mana.
I think you need aether wall and another finisher to make the deck amazing. Watching you dig for one finisher was just brutal for me. But I want this deck!
I really like remaking old decks. Not all of them though. Maybe once a month do a vote for which deck to bring back just like how we sometimes vote for against the odds. I think bringing back favorite decks is a really great idea
I really do think you should revisit old budget MTG Decks because its a less work lode and it gives other people the chance to experience extremily old decks that they didn't see, and plus your also updating the deck wich is great.
I'm so down for some of the old budget decks, possibly even taking some of the budget standard decks that have rotated and updating them for modern (for instance, I have the WB aristocrats deck from a couple years ago that slowly got updated into abzan tokens right after ixalan. All of that deck is rotating basically, so having a route to update into modern would be interesting).
Against that burn I feel you should have kept some more counters to stay alive and then do the digging. I like these revisits to older decks, especially if they're as fun as this one!
Consider greater gargadon in our deck here?? Like you can sac. Lands to him for value when you wildfire. Also you can sac annexed lands in response to any kind of enchantment hate from opponent trying to get their lands back to gargadon. In addition to having just another one drop that you can play like turn 2 where we would normally have nothing if we arnt double mana rocking.
I have to admit that I've never laughed so hard in any against the odds or budget modern deck ever before that Hardened Scales Affinity game 1. Loving the deck after that
If rewatching my old favorite content is the only fee to watch seth have so much fun he's nearly crying from laughter, count me in. P.S. It's not a fee
If you angered first they would have still saced. so the order between wildfire and anger doesn't matter. As for Match 1 Game 1 I would rather held up the remands over playing the 2nd annax. Pyromancer can run off of 2 lands pretty well.
Anyone been thinking about a UB version of this deck? Fatal push instead of lightning bolt, Talisman of dominance instead of signet, Bontus last reckoinging or Damnation instead of Anger of the gods and Deathcloud instead of Wildfire?
@@jod6191 Yeah I worked some but it really needs wormcoil to work and I couldnt afford them this month. But the deck has some serious potential I think
This is a great idea! You may even be able to take some of your old budget standard decks, and maybe port them to modern. Maybe they are just worse versions of a tier deck (Allys are bad Humans), but cheap fun ways to get into modern are great.

32 rhinos for modern would be interesting

That burn match up game one...... in freaking mind blown hahaha wow. Wow.
I had been drifting away from magic for a few months now, but your videos from the past week have pulled me back in. Thanks Seth
You should play a non budget version with blood moon on stream
I second this
Coming back to this 3 years later and thinking the same! Let’s see what this looks like in 2022!!
Should have taken the dispels in the burn matchup.
dispel covers instant speed threats, dream leash takes their lands if they play sorcery speed. I like the idea behind it.
@@naphackDT its burn. The voal of magic is to not die while killing the opponent. Dispel keeps him alive against a deck of mainly instants, while lash takes a land.
