I’ve seen a version of this deck that I think is even better. It replaces the ghostfire blades with ensouls. The deck can attack with a 5/5 flying lifelink on turn 2 (vault skirge). The deck uses that early push (which is very consistent) to put the opponent in blasting range. That deck solves some of the problems this deck has, and is only about $5-10 more expensive for a few shivan reefs and some spires of industry
That sounds like more of a sidegrade than an improvement. It adds blue which is more expensive and leaves you really open to 2 for 1s. How many of these games would path have been a 2 for 1 on ensoul here?
They actually have a version of that deck back in 2015 that played ensouls and 8 blasts and even have a set of tarmogoyf, it was based on the UR artifact deck that Mike Sigrist topped 8 during pro tour origins i think.
Not a modern player here but turn 2 vault skirge with ensoul artifact is a 2 for 1 with fatal push widely used in modern. I think it's a bad exchange for me. If it slips in 1 attack then yeah, that's what we want but that doesn't usually go that way.
This deck needs an update with all the great red artifacts that just came out of Kamigawa Neon Dynasties! Sacrificing a Reinforced Ronin after attacking seems petty cute. And Rabbit Battery is an easy swap in for Ghostfire Blade
A couple punts, one being against blue black game 2 you could have activated fair in response to ornathopter dying. Overall really good running with ultra budget
This seems like a good deck to get into modern with because it can build into hardened scales or normal affinity and gets stronger as you slowly add the rest of the pieces. The first upgrade would probably be in this order, steel overseer, inkmoth, then arcbound ravager, and then finally the mox opals. Of course mox opals are a good first upgrade if you have the money for them, but overseer seems like the most immediate boon to the deck.
Love this deck, borrowed it from my LGS to try modern and loved it. Now I have my own U/W/G flicker deck based off yours. Thank you for (I’m a way) getting into this format

@@andrewshirley9240 I think this is the case except he only needed 2 to resolve and he had 4. On his end step he could have used three and almost certainly overwhelmed the counters. I think he'd have to have spell Pierce or some nonsense to get out of if

I think the only thing separating this from non-budget and budget is the lack of mox opals. Adding 4 would be expensive, but would improve the performance by a mile.
25:52 couldn't you have used springleaf on ornithopter to activate blinkmoth and attack for more damage? It's not like the 1 colorless from blinkmoth being untapped is relevant here.
how does this not play kuldotha rebirth and Bushwhacker for the whackening? you'll still have plenty of artifacts but have some very powerful draws with signal pest and whacker. and they are both budget cards, were what my first modern deck was based around.
also this deck does something that deck doesn't it has the face damage from the burn cards. kuldotha rebirth and bushwacker means your cutting shrapnel blast and arcbound worker probably so your dome hits are not as strong after the board stabilizes.
I feel like this deck wants 1-2 experimental frenzies somewhere in it. Put it out on turn 3 or when the topdeck wars begin. Should wrap it up nicely from there.
Interesting. I built a deck similar to this like a couple of years ago. The difference is that I splashed blue for Ensoul Artifact and sideboard had Etched Champion and Ghost Blade.
it's an established fact on this channel that high damage burn spells do really well in modern, no surprise that instant_speed_goblin_grenade.deck is working
Seth I think we can get more power if we splash blue to the deck because, we can put ensoul artifact and thoughtcast! We could cut out ghostfire and worker =O
maybe a few pias revolution? I don't know what to take out for that.. maybe a ghost fire Blade and a worker? it might just slow down the deck to much.. or just get countered. any thoughts? I also like x1 hope of ghiruper...
This seems like an interesting sideboard card, but also seems a bit slow- just like the one of Girapur Aether Grid. Why that's good in the slot is because you can slowly ping your opponents like in the second(?) match. It also fades to hexproof, though- so I doubt it's worth a consideration.
My only thought is why not just play bolt over Ghostfire blade? The three damage seems good enough when sometimes you just attack for a million and there are no nonbos with bolt other than it doesn't add +1 to a cranial
I came up with this exact deck a few months ago, minus the ghost fire blade which makes no sense to me. Mine had mishra's bauble and splashed white for path and helix
hey seth why come did u not side in the etched champion? Seems good against anger/path and bolt and helix. Does get settled and non damage based swept but still seems resilient.
I just had the worlds greatest idea for an Against the Odds. “Pest Tribal”. Not as in cards that have “pest-“ in the name. As in the creature type Pest. You have to run Nuisance Engine and Signal Pest as 4 ofs, and try to make it work.
I had a deck that used generator servant from M15 to put a hasty moltensteel dragon in play by turn three, and then giving it double strike using assault strobe to swing for 20 in the air. The deck was just as hilarious but much less consistent hahah, it was filled with memnites, ornithopters and cranial platings as the filler strategy :)
Actually, you either equip it for 2 black at instant speed, or for 1 of whatever color at sorcery speed. That means that with three mana total (2 from casting cost) you can surprise hit somebody for 6 more damage than what they expected.
What would be some upgrades to this deck, but keeping the blast style? I saw on the article steel overseer and some people in the comments are discussing bushwackers and kuldothas but i’m not too sure about those :(
One copy of Teferi, Hero of Dominaria: 30 tix.
Artifact Blast Affinity (whole deck): 8 tix.
Beating UW control with a superbudget list: priceless.
Deck is 22tix now
@@Cincinnatijames The "probably better known as Saffron Olive" effect.
@@Cincinnatijames Still cheaper than one Teferi.
Was this deck really 7 tix when recording? I would have definitely tried to pick it up at that point. 27 tix? Eh... not so much
@@adammoldover8769 Only 12 now.
This deck should just be called Team Rocket, because each round you're blasting off again
YES!!!!!
Give this person more likes!
I love that you got more aggressive with the blasts as you played more games with the deck.

That was cool Seth.
I had a blast.
I never knew I'd want to exclaim "Blastoff!" while winning a match of Magic but here we are.
Pauper in da house!
Could the double blast spells work in an atog affinity deck? Is it Possibly Pauper Playable?
8 blast...
Ethan Ford Ford Clearly the correct deck name.
I’m running mine as 8 Whack 8 Blast
the only burn deck without lighting bolt.
should be in there tho
Who wants to pay R for 3 damage when you could get 4 damage instead?
renundancy... if you can't blast them, bolt them.
You know what would fix that?
4 bolts
A couple punts, one being against blue black game 2 you could have activated fair in response to ornathopter dying. Overall really good running with ultra budget
Yeah, not activating Fair was killing me
It's already 21 tix, the SaffronOlive effect is strong.
This reminds me of my friends old affinity deck where he ran 8 blasts along side of thoughtcast, good work!

Yeah, that's one of the upsides is it does upgrade into a couple of tier decks!
I freaked out when i discovered that the thing that signal pest shoot the beam from is it's claw and not it's mouth
Yeah it took me 5 years to realize lol
Man I loved this video, all those top tier mega expensive decks crushed. Sometimes Magic really is as beautiful game.
This deck brings back good ol' memories where you blew up bombs with Shrapnel Blast.
IKR! But I was talking about Spellbombs
51:03 This is what magic is all about...having fun 😋🤣🤣
Congrats Seth for this deck, it was... A blast!
At 41:00, you could sac fair for an etched champion and Stonewall the khalitas, preventing lifelink
Hmm, I never really expected to have enough mana to sac Inventor's Fair. GOod call!
13:02 I was almost hoping for a "nobody expects the mana tithe!" play to come down
Atmapalazzo that would’ve been too hilarious if that happened XD
I thought the same lul

I brewed up a version of this last week on your website! Happy to see you play it :)
You already know some random card from this deck will quadruple in price. It’s happened to psionic blast, goblin lore, and even kinda bloodghast after the reprint
The Blasts did spike for a few months, but they've settled back down now
You should try Experimental Affinity !
A built-around version could be insane
1:00:24 "It was a blast!" Dammit, Seth!
Great agressive strategy
Cool to watch and interesting to try it out
It was a blast!
Been working on something similar. This gives me some hope for my deck project. Thanks!
Oh my!❤ They will write songs about this deck in magic heaven.

*opt into terminus enters the chat*
But. That stops... What exactly? Plating?
Stopping your citadels and springleafs is actually a huge issue. This deck doesn't get hit as hard by stony as normal affinity, but like scales affinity, it will still be set back if an opponent slams a turn 2 stony.
It doesn't even seem that good against this build.
@@Atmapalazzo Turn 2 stony is really good against hardened scales not only because of that, but almost all power cards in the deck are strong because of their activated abilities.
I love how the price of the deck according to Seth increases from $60 slowly to $70 at the end
I wanted to play Shrapnel Blast so much!
Now I can!!
It's great the MTGO price has tripled in under a day... Great job with the SaffronOlive Effect Seth :P That said, probably going to build this for the next FNM.
The gotcha factor for this deck is really fun
If you add 8 whacks and a few more goblins you can run goblin grenade. Goblin Wardriver seems really good here too. I feel they fit the synergy really well.
FYI Blinkmoth can pump the other Blinkmoth, like @26:27 you could have activated one and used the other to pump for more damage.
Is seth a little too shy in playing around counters? I feel like the opponent is tapped down mostly and seth still doesn't go for it. Is that right?
Sometimes he really is.
His play seemed fine in this one as far as I could tell. Running your only reach into what is 95% going to be a counterspell when you need every single one of those reach spells to resolve is a bad idea. Better to wait for them to go for a big play, or to try and play a smaller persistent threat that may draw out counters or require a big tap-out. The only exception is if the opponent is like 1 card in hand, or if you're so far out of it that you NEED to burn them out that turn.
Patience is a virtue.
@@andrewshirley9240 I think this is the case except he only needed 2 to resolve and he had 4. On his end step he could have used three and almost certainly overwhelmed the counters. I think he'd have to have spell Pierce or some nonsense to get out of if
Seth is mostly a control player so he doesn't play super aggressive when he plays aggro decks. I'm a aggro player myself but this is a very good video showcasing how it can be beneficial to play with patience.
Love this. Would like a non-budget updated version :)
This is a great meta deck. The deck looks a lot like Affinity when you play against it, but Affinity usually doesn't run that may big red burn spells. The deck wouldn't be as good if people knew what was coming, but hilariously, they did not.

This is awesome
I complained on the Goblin Prison video, this was the exact opposite. It was a BLAST!

Misses that he can pump blinkmoth nexus with another nexus. Cool deck.
I think the only thing separating this from non-budget and budget is the lack of mox opals. Adding 4 would be expensive, but would improve the performance by a mile.
I actually really liked this. I kinda wouldn't mind buying this and then slowly upgrading to the mono green or traditional versions of affinity.
I built this deck a while ago, and since another name people use for Affinity is "Robots," I called my build "Blastbots."
Blastbots is a good one.
25:52 couldn't you have used springleaf on ornithopter to activate blinkmoth and attack for more damage? It's not like the 1 colorless from blinkmoth being untapped is relevant here.
We could have, although leaving up two mana for Shrapnel Blast is nice cover for a removal spell.
how does this not play kuldotha rebirth and Bushwhacker for the whackening? you'll still have plenty of artifacts but have some very powerful draws with signal pest and whacker. and they are both budget cards, were what my first modern deck was based around.
What you are describing is a deck called "Go-Bots"
Minus the Shrapnel Blast
@@1261JAHO Didn't realize it had a name, thank you for the new information
also this deck does something that deck doesn't it has the face damage from the burn cards. kuldotha rebirth and bushwacker means your cutting shrapnel blast and arcbound worker probably so your dome hits are not as strong after the board stabilizes.
I actually play this irl if you were interested in what a list like that could look like. Its also got a dual goblin theme for goblin grenade.
4 [HOU:181] Ramunap Ruins
4 [SOM:174] Memnite
4 [KLD:199] Bomat Courier
3 [OGW:116] Reckless Bushwhacker
3 [DDT:45] Goblin Grenade
3 [MRD:106] Shrapnel Blast
4 [M15:223] Ornithopter
4 [ZEN:125] Goblin Bushwhacker
4 [MED:102] Lightning Bolt
3 [SOM:96] Kuldotha Rebirth
4 [GTC:97] Legion Loyalist
3 [KLD:235] Smuggler's Copter
4 [MBS:131] Signal Pest
1 [MBS:144] Contested War Zone
12 [HOU:188] Mountain
SB: 3 [M19:128] Alpine Moon
SB: 2 [DST:117] Dragon's Claw
SB: 2 [DKA:149] Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 2 [GTC:106] Skullcrack
SB: 2 [GPT:75] Shattering Spree
SB: 2 [ALA:218] Relic of Progenitus
SB: 2 [SHM:107] Smash to Smithereens
I feel like this deck wants 1-2 experimental frenzies somewhere in it. Put it out on turn 3 or when the topdeck wars begin. Should wrap it up nicely from there.
you could say playing this deck is a blast
Interesting. I built a deck similar to this like a couple of years ago. The difference is that I splashed blue for Ensoul Artifact and sideboard had Etched Champion and Ghost Blade.
it's an established fact on this channel that high damage burn spells do really well in modern, no surprise that instant_speed_goblin_grenade.deck is working
Seth I think we can get more power if we splash blue to the deck because, we can put ensoul artifact and thoughtcast! We could cut out ghostfire and worker =O
Sounds like you were having a blast. Who knew bad affinity could be so good?
This deck looks like a blast to play...
maybe a few pias revolution? I don't know what to take out for that.. maybe a ghost fire Blade and a worker? it might just slow down the deck to much.. or just get countered. any thoughts? I also like x1 hope of ghiruper...
This seems like an interesting sideboard card, but also seems a bit slow- just like the one of Girapur Aether Grid. Why that's good in the slot is because you can slowly ping your opponents like in the second(?) match. It also fades to hexproof, though- so I doubt it's worth a consideration.
Atog and ravenous intruder, zero drop artifacts, thud, or double strike with mox opal= fun
My only thought is why not just play bolt over Ghostfire blade? The three damage seems good enough when sometimes you just attack for a million and there are no nonbos with bolt other than it doesn't add +1 to a cranial
I think Pia's revolution would help add some synergy with the sacrifice costs, it's also only 3 mana so turn 2 with spring leaf
"Nice Teferi" love it lol!
If you put 4 lighting bolts into it, would it be considered 12 Bot-bolts?
ATTENTION! 19 minus 6 equals 12! So speaks Lord Saffron Olive! - ;-)
8 tix?? the heck
22 now, The "probably better know as Saffron Olive" effect strikes again! LOL the deck nearly triples in price and it's still cheaper than dirt.
I came up with this exact deck a few months ago, minus the ghost fire blade which makes no sense to me. Mine had mishra's bauble and splashed white for path and helix
Not a single copy of Artifact Blast in this deck.
hey seth why come did u not side in the etched champion? Seems good against anger/path and bolt and helix. Does get settled and non damage based swept but still seems resilient.
This deck is insane
Why not splash blue for Thoughtcast? Loved this deck!
My first thought was "Artifact Blast is legal in Modern?"
That's how you know I'm an EDH player
A blast from the past
Awesome blast!!!
How do you feel about Reckless Bushwacker over Ghostfire Blade?
I just had the worlds greatest idea for an Against the Odds. “Pest Tribal”. Not as in cards that have “pest-“ in the name. As in the creature type Pest. You have to run Nuisance Engine and Signal Pest as 4 ofs, and try to make it work.
Damnit seth i just got 12 bolt XD
I wonder if Thoughtcast could fit in the deck
Against the jund deck. Get in... You got to get in. Yessss
Why not add perilous myr? It dies deal two damage. You can also sac it with shrapnel blast and do 7 damage.
Impressed and it's only 1st game!
I keep forgetting to pick up a set of Bomat Couriers when they are on the down swing.
that deck looks like ... a blast ;D
Did you have a blast playing this deck?
Hey Seth
Did you know...
That umm,
The word Mountain has a “t” in it?
Mounant
What is this "t" you speak of?
I am getting this deck in paper, I mean, artifacts and face wrecking? count me in! Already have more than half the cards :D
Sweet!
That settle G1 was SO projected Seth! Why did you walk right into it?
It's Modern! Who plays settle ;)
Feels like ornithopter doesn't do enough. along the budget theme ... how about frogmite?
Seth could one or two ramunap ruins be helpful ? 40:10
can we have a non-budget (if it can be upgraded) version stream tonight?
BLAST EM
I’m confused about the cranial plating, I though it cost 2 black to equip?
Actually, you either equip it for 2 black at instant speed, or for 1 of whatever color at sorcery speed. That means that with three mana total (2 from casting cost) you can surprise hit somebody for 6 more damage than what they expected.
Feeling despair? According to definition?
I wonder if this is better than kuldotha red goblins?
I'm not sure, I don't think we've every played Kuldotha Goblins. I'll have to add it to the list!
This is pretty close to a list Affinity For MTG posted not too long ago.
What would be some upgrades to this deck, but keeping the blast style? I saw on the article steel overseer and some people in the comments are discussing bushwackers and kuldothas but i’m not too sure about those :(
I think the best way to improve is make blue splash and add mox opal and ensoul artifact, cutting arcbound worker and ghostfire blade
