The game was actually finished before it was cancelled, and we never got the finished version. So the SNES Classic version is going to be the final version we never got.
Technically at the time. Starfox 2 wasn't officially released. Most people emulated it or played a reproduction. Now you can play it on the SNES Classic after beating the first level of starfox 1
Why do people even want Mother 3 "released" over here You've been able to play the entire thing, FOR FREE, in English, for like 10 years Everyone who asks for Mother 3 in the USA has already probably played it like 9 fucking times
I'm excited for this marathon as there is going to be no nostalgia blindness towards 64 when reviewing Assault. Seriously, that gane is very underrated
What a great video, Johnny! You've never seemed so comfortable and confident, your videos have gotten better and better as time has gone on, and I really appreciate everything you do to bring us entertainment! Thanks man!
Ah, Star Fox. The series that got me into gaming in the first place. Yeah, the original Star Fox in some aspect hasn't aged too well, but this game has a soft spot in my heart. Looking forward to seeing what you think of he rest of the series!
Or have proton jon tell nintendo that they have until he gets a drink to release star fox 2. (See:Runaway guys 4 player stream and kirbys dream course on TRG.)
Star Fox 2 was technically remade but Command was more of a spiritual successor. Apart from Assault the Star Fox games are usually just enhancements of either Star Fox 1 or 2.
I love it when the antagonist or the end of the world threat in video games are a constant and consistent problem threatening to destroy everything throughout the game. Not just waiting til the last level to finally get down to it.
Correction: Star fox 1 and Stunt Race FX used the Super FX Chip at about 10 MHz Starfox 2 and Yoshi's Island both used the Super FX 2 chip. The FX1 chip was a 21MHz chip but there was a hardware speed clock limiter that made it run at 10 Mhz. The FX2 Chip is basically just the FX1 chip but without the clock limiter. Allowing it to run at the full 21 MHz it was capable of.
Oh hot damn, Starfox 1 AND 2?! I was expecting the first but for you to review the second one (which is sorta of a rare beast) is going the extra mile. Nice job man.
You know, since Star Fox Zero does take so much from Star Fox 64, I think it'd have been really cool if they included Star Fox 2 as an unlockable or a bonus feature in that game.
To be honest, this series of games _completely_ passed me by. And I never felt like I missed _too_ much, to be honest; like, complete lack of interest or even curiosity. Not sure why.
I never thought about that, those meteors do have a troll face on them lol. I also got a nice laugh when you had Mario and Luigi talking through the ships lol.
On a busy Saturday Morning where all I want to do is just sit down and enjoy my coffee... I suddenly remember I forgot to watch this video when it came out. Now I get to see... coffee in hand... I is happy.
It's okay, I haven't played a few games like Hyperdimension Neptunia (otherwise known as NepNep by diehard fans), as it can be offputting at times. I couldn't play Senran Kagura due to a slowly dying PSP, which would make things difficult if I tried since that was a PSP exclusive at the time (that, and if I tried to play the 3DS entry I would've missed a good chunk of "lore" due to this handicap).
TL;DR I couldn't play games for a time due to technical difficulties. So even if I WANTED to rent either of those games, I couldn't as my current PSP is R.I.P.
Try star fox assault, it's pretty beginner friendly(To change the controls go to options>player profiles) and the multiplayer is without a doubt the best in the series.
"Wouldn't it be nice if they finished, fixed it up and released it for the modern consoles???" Me, along with countless others have been campaigning for Sonic 06 to get this treatment for years. And we're willing to settle for a direct PC port of X1 compatibility.
I'd have to respectfully disagree, as there was a lot more wrong with Sonic '06 than mere "glitches" or "rushed development." The Sonic Adventure formula has sold more poorly than that of the classic games or Colors/Generations, and the very concept of a gritty, pseudo-realistic Sonic game with a dozen different gameplay styles screams of failure.
It's weird: Star Fox looks like something that's up my alley: An arcade-esq shooter that puts an emphasis on multiple playthroughs to improve your score and performance. It's why I love Sonic Generations, and the only Star Fox game I've played is the original. No, I have not played Star Fox 64. You can crucify me later. Personally, while the original Star Fox isn't a bad game, it was a little too slow for my liking. I'm sure the other games improve the speed, so I'll have to play the other games in order to get a better Star Fox experience.
If you thought the original Star Fox was slow, you probably won't think the other games are any better. I haven't played all of them, but in my experience, the original Star Fox is the most frantic in the series.
You know the Starfox minigame in Warioware smooth moves, they should remake the original starfox like that. Make the draw distance better, clear up the resolution and make the game run smoother. It would be the same game, just a whole lot more playable.
John, i know you won´t read this, but in case you do i need to ask for a favor. Please, keep an open mind when you play Starfox Adventures. (Yes, i´m one of those schmucks that actually likes it) I know it´s not like a starfox game AT ALL, but it´s still a good adventure game. So many people hate it just for the fact that it´s not a space shooter (JONTRON!!), but just for the sake of giving it a fair chance don´t think of it as a Starfox game think. Think of it as a Rare game. Thanks, or not. Again, very unlikely you´ll see this
Aw yeah, Stairfax Temperatures appreciation thread! As weird as it sounds, I think Star Fox Adventures was my first Star Fox game way back when I was much younger. I remember really liking it a lot, and I was surprised to hear that so many people hated it once I got older. Sure it's not like... ANY other Star Fox game in the series, but it's not meant to be, and especially considering how popular OOT is, I'd think that the Zelda-esque adventure-y formula would be popular. I dunno, maybe that's just an excuse for a game that shouldn't be a Star Fox game but oh well.
This pretty much. Also there's the fact it was rushed for release, sadly. I still think the ass-pull at the end was inexcusable mostly, and it was sad to see a lot of the original plot get cut, but we can blame that on Rare being bought out around the time it was being worked on. At least it's a trainwreck in gameplay, unlike certain rushed titles, so they put effort there.
Wow......I learned something today. So wait...does that mean Star Fox Zero is Star Fox 2 (more or less) reincarnated but with the mindset of Star Fox 64?That......or Nintendo just doing what they normally do and never throwing ideas away and keeping them until they may want to use it again...yeah, probably that one. ;3
I like when game companies do that though. "Okay guys we couldn't fit it into this game so lets put it into another one." like how Fungi Forest was gonna be a Banjo-Kazooie level but then was added as a DK 64 level. Or there were a couple levels planned for Banjo-Kazooie that were added into Tooie like Witchyworld and Glitter Gulch Mine.
8)) Mario and Luigi series dialogue!!!! Seriously Johnny, if you like these games you should do a review series on them. There are 5 of them now, so it would take some time.
Looking back the funny thing is that 2 is now available for Nintendo Switch Online. So Americans can legitimately play it for the latest Nintendo console. The frame rate can be a bit of an issue sometimes, but I love the strategy elements and ability to play as one of six characters, and even who to bring with you for advice.
AAAND Star Fox 2 is announced for the SNES Classic Edition
Hopefully they finish it this time.
The game was actually finished before it was cancelled, and we never got the finished version. So the SNES Classic version is going to be the final version we never got.
Maybe Johnny can do a revisit for the game sometime.
Nerdy George Washington. 10+ months later....
Phantomshadow224 10 months is NOTHING on this channel
"Enough about star fox, now let's talk about starfox."
Sounds like a line from a UA-cam poop.
It does.
Seems I bumped into you here Seth haha. X
Aleksha Plagues You waited 3 years to respond?!
That Mario&Luigi gag was GOLD
True.
Agreed
Nitrorad
Indeed.
Factual
That Mario & Luigi bit was BRILLIANT!!! XD
Indeed.
+Carlos Eduardo Aguiar I think you mean "Hoteredototerecotarepritiropayeragetipracotoro".
No shit.
Interesting how Star Wolf was carried over to Star Fox 64, but not the Lynx and Poodle.
That's a real shame honestly.
Yeah so many interesting things, characters, and character designs have been scrapped.
Star Fox Zero 2 with the Lynx, Poodle and Crystal so all of 4chan and tumblr can have a fanwank over best girl?
Well... there is a cat girl in Star Fox 64, but she's not part of the team.
Miyu was remade into Kat.
Fay was remade into Bill.
ZeroZerock
Kat Monroe is alright
Star Fox 2 "final version" is officially being released on the SNES Classic. When it comes out Johnny, will you give the game a second review?
It wasn't that different. The main thing was the removal of the lock on, making it a reward for getting all of the Pepper coins
OMG HE DID I
T
@@zladvevo9724 3 years later! But awesome regardless
You know you're gonna have a good day when you wake up to a SomeCallMeJohnny video.
Agreed
yea
So true. Lol
so fucking yeah
Lol, this is me right now.
that mario and luigi italian made me die of laughter
as chuggaconroy says italianease
Lol
Yes!
"italian"
XDDDDDDDD
Guess what? You can play StarFox 2 now! Wait... so we got StarFox 2 released before Mother 3? Are you kidding me???
To be fair, Star Fox 2 has been unreleased worldwide, and is older than Mother 3, which was at least released in Japan..
lol
Technically at the time. Starfox 2 wasn't officially released. Most people emulated it or played a reproduction. Now you can play it on the SNES Classic after beating the first level of starfox 1
Imposter Ditto THATS WHAT I SAID
Why do people even want Mother 3 "released" over here
You've been able to play the entire thing, FOR FREE, in English, for like 10 years
Everyone who asks for Mother 3 in the USA has already probably played it like 9 fucking times
Yo, throwing in Mario and Luigi to speak their gibberish was hilarious.
So now John has done a marathon for almost every major Nintendo series
Except Kirby
Kirby marathon when
Doesn't Animal Crossing count?
Fire Emblem?
Fire emblem?
valiante1998 I doubt he'll do a FE marathon, as those games would take WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long to complete
DIdnt he make a joke on that in a pokemon review video?
Also wii series when? Come on show us how good fitness on wii fit is Johnny!
I guess you could say this review was... * puts sunglasses on * out of this world!
Go sit in the corner.
Sorry, that joke made me space out for a bit.
*puts sunglasses on too* YEAHHHHHHH *drives into the sunset*
Mycaruba?
boooooo
Star Fox 2 will never be released... the SNES Classic says hi.
Thanks man!
Wait... Mario and Luigi in Arwings?... *Now I Want To See That Happen!*
YES!!! Totally!
Superstar saga babble FTW
with the superstar saga battle theme playing in corneria
I remember an old flash series called Perfect Kirby where Mario is an Arwing pilot.
+mechashadow He actually used Bowser's Inside Story gibberish.
6:58 That's a really damn long "indeed".
That Mario and Luigi voice clip segment was amazing.
Fun fact is that Star Vox in German would be pronounced Star Fox. The German "V" makes an "F" sound.
i was looking for something to watch this morning. screw ESPN, give me mah SCMJ.
What about *Good Mythical Morning*
+Darin Gainey They don't really talk about video games.
Geeze. I would be one sad little piece of shit if I had to be constantly surrounded by video games. How ridiculous.
***** Could be worse. Better than surrounding yourself with alcohol.
+Darin Gainey could be worse you could surround yourself with sports video game videos
"Andross has come back for REVENGEANCE" will always be my favorite Johnny line.
Quite the timely birthday gift for me.
Thanks, Johnny!
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Thanks, dudes.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
"It probably wouldn't happen."
(It happened.)
That Mario and Luigi segment...
God, I love your humor Johnny! Keep up the good work!
The Mario & Luigi jibberish joke was just brilliant XD
Damn, Star Fox 2 actually looks like a fun game I wish to try if it was completed.
You should try the version Johnny is playing.
SF2 is my favorite Star Fox
It was completed. Just not released due to Star Fox 64.
+Dystopia The thing is, is that the true final build isn't available online
Hopefully Nintendo will let it out one of these days for us to try.
It's the most visually interesting one to look at from what I see here.
I thought it was completed but never released?
Ah, Star Fox. The series that got me into gaming in the first place. Yeah, the original Star Fox in some aspect hasn't aged too well, but this game has a soft spot in my heart.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of he rest of the series!
All we need it Ted. Ted, go and say " I don't think Sar Fox 2 will ever be released."
Or have proton jon tell nintendo that they have until he gets a drink to release star fox 2. (See:Runaway guys 4 player stream and kirbys dream course on TRG.)
K-33x42 -E Link to specific video, please?
I've only played Star Fox 64 for.... the 64, and I wouldn't play another Star Fox game again until Zero came out
Thoughts? I personally love the game.
+Isaac Platt (PUNCHFACE)
Zero was okay. it took a bit to get used to the gyro controls, but it was fun to use
Coming back to your video after playing Star fox 2 on the SNES classic mini :)
Star Fox 2 was technically remade but Command was more of a spiritual successor. Apart from Assault the Star Fox games are usually just enhancements of either Star Fox 1 or 2.
and the Star Fox 2 Walker was added in Star Fox Zero
The Chicken Walker.
*Adventures*
+SonicMaster211 I don't consider that a Star Fox game. If you check out the devs they were working on a new IP before they reskined it.
SonicMaster211 Furry Zelda Adventures ?
I love it when the antagonist or the end of the world threat in video games are a constant and consistent problem threatening to destroy everything throughout the game. Not just waiting til the last level to finally get down to it.
Star fox 2 was officially released on the SNES classic, so you kind of got your wish there.
The Star Fox marathon begins! I've been looking forward to this ever since the polls. :D
StarFox
Wait, shouldn't you do Zero first?
JK
He's not doing that until he covers the other Star Fox games.
no. the zero means star fox 0/10
+Nikke 2800 Oh.
It's because Zero implies it's a prequel to everything.
...Which Zero kinda is because it's a re-write of SF1/64.
+JamesTheBrony That's two for two! Man, you are really good at missing jokes.
It's about time someone did this game justice, one of the most underrated SNES games out there! Keep up the good work johnny!
What happened to the
"Johnny vs Knuckles Chaotix"
It didn't happen yet.
Saying thing that happened to Caddicarus's Croc 2
He's coming back to Sonic later this year, maybe Knuckles Chaotix along with a redone Unleashed review.
+Donnel Waddle Dee And maybe Transformed too
Hopefully also a review on the Sonic Advance series.
Correction:
Star fox 1 and Stunt Race FX used the Super FX Chip at about 10 MHz
Starfox 2 and Yoshi's Island both used the Super FX 2 chip. The FX1 chip was a 21MHz chip but there was a hardware speed clock limiter that made it run at 10 Mhz. The FX2 Chip is basically just the FX1 chip but without the clock limiter. Allowing it to run at the full 21 MHz it was capable of.
Johnny you gotta go back and give Star Fox 2 a real review with the snes classic
Nice to wake up in the morning to start off with the begging of a Johnny vs marathon of one of my favorite Nintendo franchises ever.
It's not a game, but I'd love to see your thoughts on the fanmade animated series.
im only halfway thorugh this video and i already love your content
Yes! It begins!
It's about time you showed up, Fox!
ieifuhdhdhhdhdhhdhdhfhhfhhfhdhdhdhdhhp
So glad he covered Star Fox 2 here. I love that game...
After your Starfox marathon, you should review Pokemon Gen 3 and 4, in honor of their 20th anniversary.
He has plans for that after another Sonic marathon
FINALLY. I WAITED MONTHS FOR THIS.
Star Fox 2 is honestly my favorite game in the series, lol
Oh hot damn, Starfox 1 AND 2?! I was expecting the first but for you to review the second one (which is sorta of a rare beast) is going the extra mile. Nice job man.
The mario and luigi part was.. oh it was great. XD
man, stunt race was my childhood, love that game so much
Odd coincidence that over a year later Nintendo released the completed ROM of Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic?
I just realised I've been watching your videos for five years!! wow.. how time flies... Great show man!
Starlink would be a good excuse to reintroduce fay & miyu back into SF, since they're now official
i found johnny vs series recently, its all gold, thanks and subbed!
Fawful's Minion would approve.
As Andross is back for REVENGEANCE, love how you say back as your Metal Gear Rising is one of my favorite reviews from this channel
I really like Star Fox 2! They should've released it.
You know, since Star Fox Zero does take so much from Star Fox 64, I think it'd have been really cool if they included Star Fox 2 as an unlockable or a bonus feature in that game.
That Mario and luigi part killed me with laughter rip me
Totally worth the wait Johnny! Thanks for this! Can't wait to see the rest!
The moment when Mario and Luigi Start talking😂😂
To be honest, this series of games _completely_ passed me by.
And I never felt like I missed _too_ much, to be honest; like, complete lack of interest or even curiosity.
Not sure why.
9:02 Enjoy getting a false copyright strike
He did put out a disclaimer at the end (I think).
The Burning Owl Do you really think Disney or some other company will care?
It's kept at 3 seconds or less, so Content ID may be cool.
RarefoilB Hopfully
I never thought about that, those meteors do have a troll face on them lol.
I also got a nice laugh when you had Mario and Luigi talking through the ships lol.
What's awesome is looking at this video and knowing we're getting an official, full release of Starfox 2 in less than 4 months.
On a busy Saturday Morning where all I want to do is just sit down and enjoy my coffee... I suddenly remember I forgot to watch this video when it came out. Now I get to see... coffee in hand... I is happy.
Never played any of the Star Foxes.
And the way I said that will sound like I committed a crime.
It's okay, I played a good bit of them but didn't care much for them.
Try star fox assault, it's pretty beginner friendly(To change the controls go to options>player profiles) and the multiplayer is without a doubt the best in the series.
It didn't sound like you committed a crime, lol
"Wouldn't it be nice if they finished, fixed it up and released it for the modern consoles???"
Me, along with countless others have been campaigning for Sonic 06 to get this treatment for years. And we're willing to settle for a direct PC port of X1 compatibility.
Agreed
I'd have to respectfully disagree, as there was a lot more wrong with Sonic '06 than mere "glitches" or "rushed development." The Sonic Adventure formula has sold more poorly than that of the classic games or Colors/Generations, and the very concept of a gritty, pseudo-realistic Sonic game with a dozen different gameplay styles screams of failure.
Why do so many people want sonic 06 remade? What the hell about that train wreck seems like a good idea to bring back?
And now Star Fox 2 will be included in the SNES mini :)
The star fox opening cinematic is almost perfect. It's beautiful and chilling.
Star Fox 64 is basically Star Fox SNES improved. If you can play it, go for it.
Get Star Fox 64 3D. That's the version I have and played. Would recommend.
If you thought the original Star Fox was slow, you probably won't think the other games are any better. I haven't played all of them, but in my experience, the original Star Fox is the most frantic in the series.
Star Fox 2 is the arcade-iest
Star Fox 64 is fantastic. If you thought anything of the original, you'll love its re-imagening on the N64. Get the 3DS version if you can.
Got reccomended through a friend. Best review series honestly.
I still think Star Fox looks amazing in terms of SNES graphics.
You know the Starfox minigame in Warioware smooth moves, they should remake the original starfox like that. Make the draw distance better, clear up the resolution and make the game run smoother. It would be the same game, just a whole lot more playable.
It still bothers me that Miyu and Fay are only exclusive to starfox 2.
I actually tried out the original snes game. And as someone who grew up on 64 and assult i surprisingly enjoyed it.

It was my first starfox game as well. Hell i played this before i played any Zelda game.
Wow! I had no idea the walker form for the arwing was supposed to come out so long ago. Neat!
damn johnny, i can't believe you reviewed a game over a year before it came out, tsk tsk
Thank you so much for inspiring me to become a youtuber, I've done this for a while and the community is amazing. Sincerely thank you.
If you had the SNES Classic do Star Fox 2 again
Thanks for not hating on Stunt Racer FX. My friends and I had a lot of fun with that game.

Time to update this video by playing the finished version of Star Fox 2.
You've never played Star Fox 64 before, huh?
...
Have fun with Slippy.
It's a good thing that Nintendo is actually going to officially release Star Fox 2 with the other games in the upcoming SNES Classic Edition.
I've been looking forward to this for so long...
AND YOU PLAYED MY FAVORITE SON IN THE CREDITS YES!
Starfox 2 is now real because of the SNES Classic!!!
The hallelujah chorus is playing for all the voters of the star fox marathon.
Johnny Predicted Star Fox 2
I frickin' love these videos. Good editing, honest review, and great gameplay footage. Very funny, too.
You're going to have to update this when the SNES classic comes out.
I love your game marathons! I can't wait to see you get to StarFox Adventure and StarFox Zero!
F-Zero series? please?
yes pls
2:20 I hope you'll be covering Star Fox Guard alongside Zero. It's an enjoyable one for sure.
I find it funny how less then a year later after Johnny said a Star Fox 2 official release is highly unlikely, we are getting an official release.
He predicted Star Fox 2 being released!
