I actually had the pressure plate sensitive Street Fighter 1 arcade at my childhood arcade. The enormous buttons were far too strong for my 6 year old hands
@@lssjgaming1599 SF1 does suck. I've also heard the pressure plates wear over time, and eventually can result in bodily harm if you're jamming on them too hard.
It's kind of funny to remember the Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat rivalry back in the day. It was almost as heated as the Sega vs Nintendo rivalry. I was firmly a MK kid, but I did like me some Street Fighter when I was over at a friend's house. He was also a Sega kid while I had the SNES. Worlds colliding, man.
The purpose of the Alpha/Zero series was to emphasize the use of lengthier combos. Alpha 1 had chain combos which allowed lights to connect to mediums, mediums to connect to heavy punches/kicks. At a glance, it seemed rather nice. At best chain combos were absolutely terrifying to exploit because the game lacked two things: damage scaling over time (I forgot the correct term for these) and a downtime from being stunned again after you were previously stunned from the same combo, meaning you can be perma stunned. You can literally die from one combo in Alpha 1. So Alpha 2 had to get rid of the chain combo system in favor of a system that was considerably more linear. This allowed the game to feel more like Street Fighter 2 while allowing the player to use at least half of their super meter to perform custom combos which was somewhat risky but rewarding. Alpha 3's ism system was simplified by allowing 3 styles of play. X-ISM was the representative of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo which gave you one super meter, more damage given and more damage received with limitations such as no air blocking. A-ISM represented the Alpha series system which allowed you access to the basic Alpha fundamentals from Alpha 2 minus the custom combo meter. The amount of damage given and received was balanced. The last style was V-ISM. V-ISM takes the custom combo system from Alpha 2 and made it more accessible. The damage done and received was low, but this was unmistakably the most popular ISM for most characters in high level play as the damage done from a custom combo was substantial (without being broken).
KamektheMagikoopa1 Yes. Guy retained his signature combo from final fight and pretty much punch chains. However Gen didn't retain anything because he was [re] introduced in Alpha 2.
KamektheMagikoopa1 Never said he couldn't. I'm just saying Gen can't retain something from Alpha 1 when he was never in Alpha 1 to begin with. That means when he was introduced in Alpha 2, he was designed for chain combos to shape the identity of his character. In Alpha 1, chain combos shaped the identity of the game and he has no part of that because he wasn't in Alpha 1. That's all.

Good shit Johnny, watching your video made me see the series from a more casual perspective, too much competitive play can be toxic for a game and i appreciate the input you gave that brought me to light
I actually started the Street Fighter series with EX+A and I loved it. The cast was great, you unlocked the hidden characters by doing the tutorial things, and the combat was fluid enough for my 6 year old self. Did I suck and not be able to pull off most special moves? Yep. Did I love every second I played with my brother and dad? Abso-friggen-lutely. The best part of the entire series, though, is getting that win with the shungokusatsu and having the kanji "heaven" take up the entire screen and get that ear piercing *shing* sound effect blasting out the speakers.
Street Fighter V: Round 2 is going to be hilarious. The game has changed a lot but the in game economy is on some Great Depression for a long while now. Tons of content to the point of "free" is a misnomer.
Did anyone else get a sudden feel of nostalgia recognizing that into theme also being used when Elliot once fought that monster during Halloween in 2009?
*"Since 1987...since 1991"* < You knew *exactly* what you were saying and what I was thinking. I didn't fathom every game that was released but I can tell you now even Street Fighter II had more replay value than SFV. What I hated the most about the franchise other than it's convoluted story was it having too many characters. I think most of them are fine but the remainder are totally forgettable and shamelessly returning into newer games. Sadly, I even forgot about Rainbow Mika even when the Naruto-like voice acting threw me off. Most importantly, I hate the damn re-releases with "extra content" when they're really just optional DLC that should've already been in the damn game already. Great video once again!
John, man, you're such a cool dude and around my age. I wish we grew up in the same neighborhood. You like all the same games I do. Good shit man. keep it up.
it's also on the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection available in PS4, Xbox One (thank goodness PS5 and Xbox Series X are backwards compatible), Switch and Steam
I will always remember Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo because of one memory. I was attending a Comic-Con which had a SSF2T arcade cabinet. After seeing some matches and the descriptions given by myself, the hosts asked me to commentate on the match proceedings for 20 minutes. Best 20 minutes of my life. I came up with names like 'Lilac Bison' and 'Blanka the Terminator' due to costume appearances, and was filmed by my dad and others. If you don't believe me, I can upload the video of me at 2017 MCM Manchester Comic-Con commentating on matchups like Bison vs Balrog and Ryu vs Blanka.
Street Fighter will forever be a series I love, and hate (god damn AI!). So frustrating, so rewarding, so cool. There's nothing like it. Now if only I didn't have to buy a special controller for every system just to keep up with the series....
It's a very good thing for you to talk about the street fighter series because I love street fighter I have every single one of the series including street fighter v and the 30th adversary collection and ultra street fighter 2 for the switch and last but not least street fighter ultra 4
I'd love you to try out Killer Instinct and cover it for your channel. You can get the XONE version and the classic games for $60 so if you're ever curious that's the way to go.
You should do this for the most popular franchises, i'd be looking forward to hear your thoughts on the history and evolution of the Tekken and Mortal Kombat series
So many fighting crossovers from Marvel vs Capcom, to Tatsunoku vs Capcom, to Street Fighter vs Tekken (plus Mega Man and PAC Man), to Mortal Kombat vs DC, to Smash Bros, But when the hell are we getting Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter?! It’s the most obvious idea of a fighting crossover and I’m still waiting for that to happen!

To be honest I'm surprised you made it to Sagat in SF1, I gave up at Adon
14:48 Wait! if Alpha is a prequel, then why does Chun-li's Spirit in Smash Ultimate evolve into the Alpha version?
I wouldn't know. I don't play World of light
I have. And it’s the other way around. The Alpha version evolves into the iteration from 2.
@@gamebrojoe Correct
Street Fighter V: Round 2 is going to be hilarious. The game has changed a lot but the in game economy is on some Great Depression for a long while now. Tons of content to the point of "free" is a misnomer.
Capcom want you to spend that money on those season passes.
It's freemium at its absolute worst.
But then again, it's nowhere near as bad as CTRNF
I wonder if Johnny plans to update this video to include Street Fighter 6
Did anyone else get a sudden feel of nostalgia recognizing that into theme also being used when Elliot once fought that monster during Halloween in 2009?
You should do a review The King of Fighters and Mortal Kombat
“TIGER!”
“TIGER!”
“TIGER!”
“TIGER UPPERCUT!”
“TIGER!”
😂
John, man, you're such a cool dude and around my age. I wish we grew up in the same neighborhood. You like all the same games I do. Good shit man. keep it up.
There are some things that never change, i am having the same experiencie with street figther 5 that johnny had with 2
Johnny do a newer updated version on Johnny Vs Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD!
My Street Fighter experience in a nutshell:
Zangief in Wreck-It Ralph
Ryu and Ken in Smash Bros.
“But Fighting Street is on the Wii Virtual Console.”
...Y- Yeah.
it's also on the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection available in PS4, Xbox One (thank goodness PS5 and Xbox Series X are backwards compatible), Switch and Steam
3:25 Me on Smash online in a nutshell, only the other guy’s dash dancing all around…
Dr. Badtimes I don't. Upload
You should do a vs with the KOF series
13:54 dude look like dashiexp
Street Fighter will forever be a series I love, and hate (god damn AI!). So frustrating, so rewarding, so cool. There's nothing like it. Now if only I didn't have to buy a special controller for every system just to keep up with the series....
I wish you did this video with Maximilian Dood!
The best compiled video ever on describing street fighter history...
...destroyed by the fact you like the live movie :D
Hat's off to Johnny for recommending Blazblue
I hope he does a round 2 for street fighter 5
*calmly waits for johnny to talk about akuma*
It's a very good thing for you to talk about the street fighter series because I love street fighter I have every single one of the series including street fighter v and the 30th adversary collection and ultra street fighter 2 for the switch and last but not least street fighter ultra 4
Oh, Street Fighter Movie the game, the one that took everything you loved from SF2 Turbo, and slowed it down again
If you pause at 9:02 you can clearly see ken hits sagat but sagat still manage to pull off tiger uppercut to take all of our money lol
I'd love you to try out Killer Instinct and cover it for your channel. You can get the XONE version and the classic games for $60 so if you're ever curious that's the way to go.
Mhm, that BlazBlue shout out though!
Gosh, do I adore that series so much lol
You should do this for the most popular franchises, i'd be looking forward to hear your thoughts on the history and evolution of the Tekken and Mortal Kombat series
So many fighting crossovers from Marvel vs Capcom, to Tatsunoku vs Capcom, to Street Fighter vs Tekken (plus Mega Man and PAC Man), to Mortal Kombat vs DC, to Smash Bros, But when the hell are we getting Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter?! It’s the most obvious idea of a fighting crossover and I’m still waiting for that to happen!
