That's probably the most eerie ending a Johnny Vs. video has ever had.
its the face of "oh shit DK 64 is next"
my own personal opinion DK 64 is great
@@papermariottydfan1 ....And I was about to comment on that 😆
@@ProtoBusterSwrd just barely beat you to it next time you'll one up me XD
DK 64 would make Johnny pull his hair out if he had any.
@@Marku912 Hey man he has facial hair. Johnny about to come back with that smooth egghead look.

DKC2 23:07
DKC3 29:58
The Donkey Kong Country trilogy was a great sendoff for the SNES, as it offered challenging platforming in each game, while also achieving the pinnacle of 2D gaming, could lay off on the overabundance of collecting stuff though.
I miss when DKC characters appeared more frequently in Mario spin-offs. Now we’re lucky to even have Diddy appear.
I can't freaking believe Diddy isn't in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
21:50 For me, my favorite track from DKC2 was "Lockjaw's Saga", and from DKC1 was a tie between "Aquatic Ambiance" and "Fear Factory"; I'm unfortunately not as familiar with DKC3's soundtrack, so I don't know which one from that was my favorite...
These games were what my sister and I used to play when my mentally Ill mom sort of abandoned us for days at a time. Bittersweet memories. And the soundtrack is the best by far.
I didn’t play this as a kid since I was born in 98 however, I have footage from 2000 of me getting happy every time I see the Rare Logo.
I played Donkey Kong Country when I was in my teens sometimes but never completed the game.
27:34 he coments on the fact that back in the game, there wasn't much of a story in many games and often protagonists weren't even named. In Cranky's first outing, the protagonist was called Jumpman... I wonder if he appeared in any games after that....
8:35. Talking about the DKC trilogy and playing Mega Man X.
That amuses me.
Hey, there is something else from th classic DK games: In DKC2, the way Diddy climbs up and down nets and vines, how it's fast down and slow up while clinging on one, and the opposite while clinging on two... it's the exact same as in DK Jr.
> Mining Melancholy as the favorite track
> Squitter as the favorite animal buddy
I have never met someone as based as you.
Also I feel the same about DKC3 in comparison to 2. As a kid I loved DKC3 a lot more mostly due to the open world map which, at the time, blew my mind. However, over the years my love for DKC2 just grew exponentially and it is at the moment my top contender for favorite game of all time.
I really love how you’ve evolved as a reviewer over the past 10+ years, how you’ve come to still love the games you have a nostalgic attachment for, but still have the ability to point out their flaws while being able to appreciate the other games you may not as be as well-versed in. Good stuff as always!
Great video Johnny. Donkey Kong is one of my most cherished franchises and I’m glad you were able to experience the fun and adventures
22:58 I also never noticed that Dixie's hair was supposed to look similar to a banana. wtf?
In DKC2, I thought Squawks shoots coconuts and not his unborn children lol... Great video though as always!
12:49
"Squawks chucking his unborn kids at folks..."
WAIT! Is Squawks a feathered Yoshi???!!!???
My mother used to play the Donkey Kong Country Series on SNES (we still own the original SNES cartridges). And now, with Nintendo Switch Online, access to these games is even easier.
Donkey kong country series is still one of my favorite Super Nintendo games. Even as a small child, I was the only family member to help p my mom finish completing a hard level for her.
No, Johnny. Donkey Kong Jr. died in a tragic tennis accident after Mario Tennis 64.
Apparently if you get 4th place in DK coins, you'll also see Link in 3rd place below Yoshi and Mario.
after that direct(pikmin, kirby & especially bayonetta being the highlights for me.:3) & talking with a good smile company staff this was an awesome surprise to my day.(laughed at how johnny felt those moments in tanked up trouble, rambi's lame bonus room/being unsettled by engaurde's as well as the rock croc's,last minute klaptrap and winky.)
love the donkey kong country series with dkc1 being my favorite(still remember playing this with my sister back then/being creeped out by the game overs.),visuals(think they've aged very well.),gameplay(find it so fluid & fun to breeze through especially that i find it fun to go after the kong letters & honestly find bananas more fun to get than coins or even rings with how you were getting back donkey kong's banana horde.)
story(like how looking into it's development there was a lot of cool ideas with dk even going against wario in one/the kremlings having an outright militia, like the gba version added parts of it's manual story and love it more than what mario was doing with the attitude it had especially with dk,diddy, funky and cranky.),animal friends(espresso was my favorite along with enguarde.) and music(favorite being aquatic ambiance/loved a version of it mixed with sailor moon, jungle hijinx, intro, king k. rool and the credits).
love dkc2 for the music(especially the ship levels & bramble blast.),dixie, ending(still love dk punching k. rool's lights out/them watching crocodile isle fall showing how diddy's grown.:3),level variety, bosses(captain krow being my favorite) and squitter but agree with johnny the completion got mean at points and a few level gimmicks weren't very fun.
dkc3 i love the design of levels but didn't find that memorable outside it,could've dialed back the completion(good luck with dk64 johnny.lol) and didn't like kiddy(even if "better" just felt like with the animal friend replacements it should've been dk again with how you only play as him once and prefer chunky kong over kiddy.) or the very anti climatic ending.
Oh! I know this!!! The original DK Jr. does appear! In fact he's the new red tie Donkey Kong with the original DK who faced Mario growing up to become Cranky Kong!
Donkey Kong 64 actually holds the world record for most collectables in a game. Also in the next Donkey Kong video could you mention the GBA versions of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, the GBC version of DKC1, and the Donkey Kong Land trilogy?
Hey Johnny! I don't know if anyone else addressed this, but King K Rool's reasoning for stealing Donkey Kong's Banana hoard, but I think he did it just to be an asshole since accordingly, he hates Bananas as much as he hates the Kongs, which is pretty weird when looking at DK 64
never laugh so hard at 17:50
Man for the longest time I felt like I was the only one who actually preferred DKC 3 over 2.
So if Cranky Kong is the OG Donkey Kong, does that mean that this DK is the DK Jr.?
I smell a DK64 review coming....pray for John
BABY WAKE UP, SOMECALLMEJOHNNY IS BACK
I get the mood, Johnny boy but now it’s time for you to GEX back into action, cause it’s FINALLY TAIL TIME!!!
I don't buy Rare saying Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong from the arcades. Not only modern games (even Mario) treats DK Country's Donkey Kong as the original, I think Rare was just trying to explain why Donkey Kong Jr. is absent here on out.
Honestly, I haven't played DKC2 or 3 because of the no Donkey Kong thing, so me as stupid adult still does that but also
The first member of the DK crew and the other 4. The collectable madness. Can't wait to hear about that one
5:00 Fun Fact: Actually Johnny the Donkey Kong from Donkey Kong Country is actually DKjr. You see Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong.
My interpretation is that current DK is the son of DK Jr. making him Cranky's grandson.
Liked collecting the Banana Birds...... Yup, yet another instance where we see Exo having a different opinion.
For me, i played a shit ton of dkc 1 and 3, but imo, 2 is still my favorite, even though i never had it, and had to trade with a friend for it to pkay for a few days back when i was a kid.
I guessing next would be the revival games (country returns and tropical freeze) or the spinoffs (king of swing, jungle climber, etc.)
Edit* Never mind, it’s dk64
Honestly I need to play this trilogy. I've gotten semi-far into the original, but one thing or another always gets in my way. DK64 though? That was a childhood game for me. Still have my copy even. I never finished it though... I should fix that some time. Looking forward to that review!
Hate those minigames, though.

Donkey Kong Country 2 was my shit on the GBA. The moment I finally got 102% on my file, I felt like the biggest badass in my family.
So wait, are you not covering the Donkey Kong Land trilogy?
THANK YOU NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREETS OST GOES HARD!

2) DKC1
3) DKC3

If you do not get this amazing trilogy of Donkey Kong madness, you are stupid. Yes, I know, that's insulting, but it's also the truth.
Oh god I know what's next with that ending...
God, the long pause after "I'm just glad I can finally stop worrying about collecting shit" had me rolling

Finally, someone who gives DKC3 the recognition it deserves.
Might I recommend the Geek Critique’s recent review of it too.
Johnny from BSC's Donkey Kong Country 3 Part 1: "This is probably my least favorite Donkey Kong Country."
How much opinions change.
Yep, I thought I was the only one who liked DKC3, everyone else I’ve seen just forgot about it
I think the gimmicks save it for repeat plays but hurt most people's opinions on initial playthroughs. Also the rocket barrel levels are no where near as hard as the retro ones.
Always been called crazy for having it as my favourite in the trilogy. Never understood the hate it gets. The levels are creative, graphics are outstanding, I actually quite liked the brother bears side quest and of course the music was on point too! Fantastic trilogy
The comedy was on point in this video, every "FUCK" joke with the characters taking damaging had me on the floor laughing; I love DKC and the gameboy adaptations, great video!
ikr hes good at those kind of jokes even the one about the bird that shit was perfect
I can't be the only one here who needs that sound clip
There is no better feeling than sitting down with a plate of food and seeing a new Johnny VS.
Donkey Kong Country 2 is my childhood. I still remember seeing the commercial in my parents room before going out for breakfast and asking them to buy it for me. They did so that weekend. Good memories.
Only DKC2? I think of these games as one massive adventure. I couldn’t imagine any of them being left out without the others
Dang rich kids, I could only rent it, haha.
I only had 2 on my SNES, of the DKC games. It was a Christmas present and I still have that copy.
Dafaq that weekend? Geez man some kids r so lucky! I had to wait till I got my PC to emulate it.
DKC3 was mine. Emulation saved my strict christian parents childhood
God you really have just gotten funnier over the years haven't you, Johnny?
Never thought Johnny would be a fellow DKC3 enjoyer, a great surprise
Oh no, that ending felt like a teaser for the inevitable DK64 or I'm looking to hard into that thought lol. Anyways, I'm actually glad you enjoyed DKC3. I don't hear that a lot so that was shocking. I always say if you gonna play the DKC games, play the trilogy as a whole whenever someone asks me where to begin.
And he already went through it in Donkey Konga.
"Why. Why did you take so long to review this game?"
Johnny: Mmm, Monke.
Next time: OOOO BANANA
One of my earliest memories in gaming overall was playing the original DKC on a rented SNES as a little kid, then with the ZSNES emulator in the very early 2000's, and the sequels and their respective GBA ports followed suit years later (even owned the first 2 ports). And one of my first ventures into UA-cam was also looking up 101/2/5% video guides of the whole trilogy. Thanks to those old videos that might've long since been lost to time, I pretty much memorized the route to fully complete all 3 games. Anyway, the DKC games are lifelong staples which are always a blast to play and watch. And I hope Johnny also reviews the Retro Studios entries since they're also great. Also, the trilogy needs to also have a PC decompilation (just like SM64 and ALTTP) soon for them to have their own Render 96-like makeover and Jammin' Sam Miller's restored soundtrack.
9:58 I so hope this sound continues to be used in future reviews as a running gag~😂
As much as I love DK64, I can definitely see drunk Johnny making a return when he reviews it
Main problem I think it has is the bonus barrels and the repeating mini games. If half of those were just replaced with regular golden bannas instead of forcing you to do a stupid mini game after you already completed a puzzle or platforming challenge the path to 100% would be alot more enjoyable
I don't know, I never got why the game got THAT infamous for collecting...it's actually little compared to open world games or RPGs that take you forever to complete. DK64 can be completed in about 10-15 hours, that's not really that much by today's standards. Also, you don't HAVE to collect EVERYTHING...I always enjoyed the game.
I can't wait for the Returns series. I love the Returns series so much and I legitimately believe they are some of the best platformers of the 21st century
Yeah
Yeah
The one on the Wii was good but had some weirdly mandatory motion controls. However Tropical Freeze is legit in my top 5 favourite games of all time.
@@thegreatgonzales6813 I agree. Paly it on Dolphin and you can map the shake to a button press and it's like playing the SNES games
They _are_ the best platformers of the 21st century.
(2D platformers at least)
I’m so very happy Johnny is doing this marathon because Donkey Kong is my favorite fictional character! 😁
IKR? Donkey Kong rocks! Nintendo can shove a banana up their butt for ignoring him
@@brucebaird- I recommend Kaze the Wild Masks, it's game play is a lot like DK.
@@orangeslash1667 Kaze is so damn good, I'd love to see a Johnny VS. video of it.
@@JoakimOtamaa For indie games I think Johnny is going to review Dead Cells, because he's huge Castlevania fan.
@@orangeslash1667 I gotta check that out, Castlevania is one of my favorite franchises. Wallachia: Reign of Dracula looks pretty nice Castlevania inspired game too, including Miriam from Bloodstained and we know Johnny's love for that franchise as well.
DKC3 is super underrated. Glad to see it getting praise for a change
So wild that these three games released on a yearly basis, especially given the arduous process of rendering its sprites. Really puts into perspective how much game development has ballooned in scope these days.
You’re right. Funny how even if the old DKC’s feel like they have more effort put into them compared to the modern games (Nintendo excluded). Looking at you COD
@@paulgilbert5278 even nintendo has had some bad moments. Mostly their online games excluding Splatoon and Kirby Dream Buffet
@@paulgilbert5278 Talk about a gaming circlejerk.
And each game had more content than the last!
Refreshing to see DKC3 getting some well deserved recognition.
Completing DKC3 105% was one of my favorite playthroughs of the whole trilogy. I feel DKC3 has such well-designed levels that going for those secrets without a guide is very doable, and is more in line with how the modern games treat hidden collectibles and bonuses. Going for full completion while playing in the hardest mode is a challenge, but a it's a fun one.
DKC 3 is so underrated man. It's got so much excellent variety and creative ideas
This franchise is so dang good, I love all three games, 3 especially as that was my very first DKC game. Everything about this trilogy is perfect to me.
The Donkey Kong Country games has had such a long of enjoyment for me ever since I played them in the 90s. And the games are always great to up back in and replay over and over again. I feel that these games will still be fun to play in the future as well.
Back in my school days, I'd bring my GBA along with DKC 1-3 just so I could plug in my headphones and listen to the soundtrack. Even on a GBA, the music was just that good.
Finally, there's justice for DKC3. I always thought this game had the most refined design of the 3.
Eveline Fischer also did great work on the first game too, including both level themes for the forest and ice worlds, the temple theme and the iconic world map theme.
People seem to forget that all the time. The amount of Fischer tracks that have been mislabeled on UA-cam as Wise tracks makes me sad. She's a great musician. Almost every track she made for the first game are amongst my favourites of that game.
31:48 that made my day 😂
Man, I can't believe after all these years you finally did the DKC SNES Trilogy, which just so happens to be some of my favorite games of all-time. Awesome job, Johnny!!!
Donkey Kong is incredibly special to me, it was one of the first games I remember playing with my dad and having a fucking blast with…two being my favourite of the three ❤
Thank you for the review Jonny, been a fan of your videos for ages - keep up the good work my friend 👊😎
I didn't like dkc3 that's the only one I didn't finish
I managed to play like the DKC series during after I've played Melee since it was when I started to experience the DK chars. Felt very happy after playing them
It's hilarious that you never noticed Dixie's hair resembling a banana, because I thought it WAS a giant banana for many of my childhood years.
DKC2 is one of my favorite games of all time. But I also really like DKC3, I honestly think it is a bit underrated, a lot of people talk of it as sort of a black sheep in the series. But the beauty of this trilogy is that it is so consistent and so good that there is a lot of division with which what game is on top and what is on the bottom. I would personally put DKC on the bottom or just about DKC returns if we count all country games.
As a side note, I do recommend giving the Donkey Kong Land series a try, they are of course watered down DKC games, but they all have mostly original level designs, even if a lot of repeated themes. And I think they are among the best platformers on the gameboy.
Those graphics and music truly were mind boggling back then and still hold up all those years later. Crazy to think that all three games came out on the same console with DKC3 really pushing the limits of the SNES.
THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME
Also need to know where that sound clip at 7:46 is from
Hey budbud
@@BladeBlur Hello!
Hell yeah, been waiting for this review forever! The first time I played DKC1 was on the GBC and thought it was fine, but then I played the SNES version and that was the one for me! I even got a physical copy of DKC2 a few years ago! The point is, Donkey Kong Country is one of my favourite childhood games, and I can't get enough of it!
31:48
Johnny smoking what I presume to be a blunt, is the best thing I’ve ever seen, I love role models from my childhood getting blazed😎😂😂
As someone who grew up playing and loving this series of games, I'm glad you had such a good time with them. All I will say for the next game in the DK series is "Take your time with collecting all the things.".
DKC3 is one of my favorite platformers ever so it’s really nice to see more people warming up to it over the years
Donkey Kong is one of the only Franchise who bested Mario on a Nintendo hardware. DKC2 being a better platformer than SMW and of course Diddy Kong Racing being superior to Mario Kart 64.
I never really understood the name changes between the three, but there is something unique about K. Rool's personas that kind of comes full circle as of the third game. In the first, he starts out as King K. Rool, on the PIRATE ship Gangplank Galleon. ...but he's CAPTAIN K. Rool in the second, commanding from the Flying Kroc, which looks more appropriately suited to the likes of a mad scientist. But the third game, Baron K. Roolenstien is holed up in a castle...probably more fit for a King.
Pretty interesting if you think about it, in my opinion.
There's also a castle in DKC2 though so the circle is a bit wobbly.
This was such a nostalgic trip, cheers for making this video, LOVED it.
I''ve been watching Johnny for years and 31:48 is still the most blessed frame i've ever paused on
These are games that conjure vivid memories. I remember where I was when I first played them, who I was with, how I felt about things at the time. I don't just think about the fun I had with these games, but of times when surrounded by people I loved, and of those no longer here. That's why we say games are art because they can summon such an emotional response. Love these games, all of them. Good vid
I feel the exact same way about DKC3. I didn't sit down and seriously play it till a few tears ago and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. That was right after a full play through of DKC2 which was a lot more frustrating than I remembered.
12:50 Squawks isn’t shooting eggs, he’s shooting nuts, much like the big Necky boss fights from the first game.
I prefer DKC1's soundtrack, but Jib Jig from DKC2 is a fantastic song. One of my favorites.
If you really love DKC3 over the second one... you should probably play or taste the GBA version... because in that version the full soundtrack its changed to better (at least to me) with the energy of the first two games, more arcade but keeping the ambientation feel of the SNES.
I love that new full GBA soundtrack of the third game... and the controls and graphics of the trilogy in the GBA are restored to better
I promise you, you will love the port version of the trilogy there.
I love your review too, keep working and getting better jhonny!!
DKC3 will always be my favorite of the trilogy, the SNES OST is fantastic and I like how just a bit more free-form the game is.
Modern gamers can keep the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The Donkey Kong Country trilogy however will forever be superior. . .
