Hi! I first knew Blender when I was 58, and I studied hard on UA-cam for two years. On UA-cam, you are one of my teachers. I finally started my own UA-cam in 2021 this year when I was 60 years old. My content is music videos I made with my own music and video. It's really difficult, but my retirement life has become fun. I would like to express my gratitude to you for helping me learn Blender. Thank sooo much!
Missing important step, self note: When you have done making everything with your metaball shape you need to convert it to mesh and you're doing it by Right Mouse Button clicking on empty space opening Object Context Menu and then clicking Convert to>Mesh
I've never used blender. Probably never will, it's currently 3am and I just watched this whole thing in awe. People are amazing, man. This was a sweet video
I learned so much more here in blender than in the other 30 to 60 plus minute blender tutorials. Especially when the goal for me is to use blender as a tool create digital art faster and potentially use it to create environments
@CGI Overloaded Technically, it's not inaccurate. The title says: how _I_ create 3D animated characters in Blender in 10 minutes, which indicates that he is explaining how he personally creates characters in such time while not strictly having to keep to that specified time in the actual video. The title does *not* say: how _to_ create a 3D character in 10 minutes, which, if that had been the case, would have indeed been inaccurate.
I imagine them designing Steve for Smash Bros. It's a square, MAKE IT HAVE 5000 VERTICES! Why? It's just a square. For the sick fat resolutions and high definition textures!
The most valuable speed-creating session with SO MUCH HELPFUL AND INSTRUCTIVE details. Your tutorial is still relevant after 2 years. The only cons: too fast demo even if it's complete. Thank you very much.
I just started Blender a month ago and wanted to see what it takes to make a character. Pretty time consuming (as expected) but thanks for doing a quick over view of important things to do and wow without having a 3 hour tutorial. To me, this is achievable.
Blender Tutorial Title: "Learn to do this in 10 minutes!" Reality: "10 minutes of fast-forwarded video. That'll be 5 hours of effort, noob." CG Geek, you're still a king. Thanks for your imagination and education ;)
Title: ten minutes to learn how to sculpt a character. Reality: it was a 16 minute video. An even harder truth: this whole process is gonna take any real human regardless a noob, at least 4-6 hours. Depression: kicks in.
I disagree. It depends on how much detail you want to put into the thing you are making. I was able to get something decent in about 30 minutes of total blender work. I got some bug where my meshes would disappear, but i don't count that as actual development work. You don't need to focus on 1 area for 15 hours. Do 1 layer of detail on the entire body, then do another one and another one and gradually add the detail. Honestly, in 5 hours you should have a pretty good model - i am excluding the animation and cloth physics and that type of shit cuz i don't even know in what menu to find those.
Bro.. i started working with blender a month ago.. been finding tutorials thag help but i keep finding my way back to youtube because its a lot to take in... you legit summarized everything i was questioning in 5 minutes!! Thanks man, great video w
Hello from Germany 🇩🇪 (that handgesture at 16:01 looked pretty familiar 🤨😂). I just wanted to say thank you for the great overview of all the sections that tie into character creation. Opened my eyes to how much work lies in front of me. Can't wait to get there!
This was a fantastic tutorial! I was always afraid to attempt sculpting because retopology is such an unwieldy beast. That trick with the plane snapping to the mesh blew my mind and totally changes everything. Thank you so much!
Great video! It shows example of character creation and explain concept that I can deep in and learn to achieve final result, and then try it out myself, thank you.
I think I've learned more from this video than what I've been thought during 3 years of "Game Art & Development"-joke-of-an-education here in the Netherlands...
Great video! Recently I've been working on a character and re-topologizing it and personally I like using the poly build tool with auto vertex joining on with a bit of a margin. Really simplifies things for most cases.
i have been a graphic artist for more than 35 years, i used ms paint until i got photoshop, i have an art degree from college, which includes all the color theory and perspectives, and with all that i am now just being born into blendering for now i am going to continue to frame-by animation, but someday i hope to use blender to fully 3d animate like i dreamed when i was in high school :)
This is an incredible video, thank you so much for making this! I am hoping to learn how to animate in both 2D and 3D, this video will be invaluable to me in learning this amazing art form. Thanks once again! :D
Not always (so yeah you can make one in just two minutes but you also need lots of time to find the most apealing model for the mob just look at the prototypes from the most recent mobs they are fine but the one who made it into the game is the best you can do)

You can run Blender on a Chromebook. You just have to go into the Settings, and enable Linux. It's a little more complicated to set up and run, and you'll have to deal with limited storage, slow rendering, and no number pad, but it's enough to get started
Big fan of Grant Abbott...having said that, this tutorial covers a ton of information in much less time. Good job! I would still recommend Grants character creation course. Especially for beginners.
It's Grant Abbitt, I realized that after I googled Grant Abbott and found myself watching videos about accounting, thanks for the comment tho his series looks good Im gonna binge it.
This is absolutely mind blowing how you can do this stuff so seemingly easy. It’s amazing. I appreciate the videos and definitely subbing for more! Thanks!
Maybe I missed a step, but after finishing the retopology step I still see the base model sticking through the new model and it's really bugging me. Maybe I didn't retopologize well?? Whatever it is, I'm gonna have to figure it out as it's bugging the crap out of me!
Such a great tutorial! You explain everything even beyond perfect! Can you make a full series of tutorials how to create a more detailed character, for example humanoid creature , from scratch. Like every video would be about each of the character creation phases you described here. Maybe also highlighting the hotkeys you use! I would willingly pay for a tutorial like that!
