yeah her voice is insane, she just turned me off a lot when she talks poorly of other kinds of music. no need to bring other people down, all music is beautiful
The biggest heartbreak of my life was when my wife passed away two years ago. But everywhere I go, I still see her in my mind and in my dream. And so she will be there forever. So you can say that she is My Immortal. I know she and I had our fights and everything like that but I still love her with all my heart.
Relationships are built on than a the fights; they’re built on being one through all of the events in your life; good or bad; they become you. You are not two but one. Love transcends all.
Her voice makes me melt. I'm not ashamed to say I cry every time I hear this song. On thing to notice is that Amy Lee's feet never touch the ground in the video. Like an angel.
I think she's he one who has passed. Her feet never touch the floor, she interacts with nobody, dressed in white, seems at peace.Yet he is the opposite
Your interpretation of the song is totally normal and one about 95% of the people first have when they listen to this song but it is actually not about a lost love/breakup. This song is about a loved one passing away and the spirit they leave behind. Amy Lee the singer lost her younger sister at an early age so there's some evidence she's singing about her but I believe the song is meant to be more broad for anyone who lost a loved one. One bit of imagery in the video that stands out is Amy Lee, dressed in all white, her feet touch the ground through out the whole song. She's always "floating" kind of like a ghost. Great reaction!

In the video she has passed away. Notice she never touches the ground throughout the entire video. They guy is mourning losing her notice as he walks he is looking up searching for his immortal.
Amy is a spectacular singer and good song writer. Evanescence was formed by Amy and Ben Moody. Ben was the primary writer of this song and the guy you see walking the streets. He says it is about a loved one who died, but their spirit continues to linger/haunt you.
Love it ! Definitely “Call me when you’re sober” Amy Lee’s voice is just unlike any other woman’s in the music industry I feel like. This song, it got me throught the worst 2 years of my life. And now, I can look back, and praise God for the love and healing I am at now and how he used this song to carry me through.
Nice reaction. There are songs and then there are songs that the artist sing at the right moment and everything just clicks with it. This song established Amy Lee as a more than. That voice will be remembered.
This song is actually not about a romantic relationship. The lyrics were written by Ben Moody, guitarist, composer and co-founder of Evanescence. The story he is telling is about the loss of his grandfather who has passed away. They were very close and after his death he would often still feel his presence and it literally haunted him. He is the one lying on the piano and walking through the town square. Amy represents an angel/spirit here, which is why her feet never touch the ground, while those around her run free. “You used to captivate me by your resonating light.” “Now I’m bound by the life you’ve left behind.” “Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams.” “Your face it chased away all the sanity in me.” “These wounds won’t seem to heal.” “This pain is just too real. There’s just too much that time cannot erase.”
Just a note about the subject matter behind this song; most people think its about a love relationship lost when actually its about Amy Lee's, the lead singer, youngest sister who died at a very young age and how it has left Amy Lee almost unconsolable throughout her life.
There's a version of this where it doesn't have a background singer or the guitar and drums in the center portion there it is very hard to find but it blows this version away
Seriously, one of my fav. This song got me through my divorce and the pain of it all. And now, God has restored my family back together. Thank God for this song.
I've been a fan of evanescence since I was younger and this song still hits me from my last break up from 3 years ago. I still can't get her off my mind and this song really talks to me about how even though we haven't talked in years, she still consumes me. Great reaction guys, keep up the great work. 👍
This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.
This is my favorite Evanescense song. The lyrics and ms Lees voice are just so chillingly beautiful. And the storyline through the video is pure magic.

All night, the Marine Honor Guard stood beside his coffin, and other Marines made sure she was taken care of. I lost my soul mate as well two years ago. He died right in front of me and I'm still in so much pain. He died here in the house we bought and had only been here five days before my life fell apart and was destroyed. We met when I was 14 and I'm 45 now. There's no physical pain that can compare to emotional pain and loss. I had absolutely no warning that it was coming. I can't go into or I'll have a complete breakdown... the anger the grief...
Yeah, it's a great song. Ben Moody and Amy Lee really nailed it, in it. This song is, probably, not about a love relationship or God, religion and all of this, It's about a spirit. The spirit of a lost sibling, the lyrics tell us about it, about a Spirit who keeps on wandering around the subject, about the pain the subject who was "left behind" is feeling and how he wished it, this Spirit would go away. It probably relates to Depression, too, something the subject is having trouble, passing by. "I'm so tired of being here, suppressed by all my childish fears, And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave... Cause your presence still lingers here, And It won't leave me alone" This part tell us about the excruciating pain of being unable to forget this special one who we lost, our memories keep on playing together with our pain, and it goes on and on. "These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real, There's just too much that time cannot erase..." Even Time, as someone who never stops and supposedly, everhealing, has trouble healing us, the subject's mind is on the verge of getting crushed, that's the point where I think the subject is depressed. "When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears, When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears, And I held your hand through all of these years, But you still have all of me." This part relates to me... about a certain connection between siblings, the subject probably lost a younger brother/sister and that's killing him, It makes me remember about my older siblings and how they would protect me, every single time, I would get into trouble, how they would wipe my tears, how they would let me sleep with them when I was afraid of sleeping in my room, alone, and all of these sibling things... "You used to captivate me, with your resonating light, Now, I'm bound by the life you left behind, Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams, Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me..." Yeah, the subject really lost a younger sibling, "Resonating Light" probably refers to a child and a light only a child has, the subject surely is getting mad by all these nightmares he is facing, seeing the face and hearing the voice of his loved sibling. "I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone, But though you're still with me, I've been alone, alone..." We have a grieving and depressed subject who lost his younger sibling, recently... This is what the song is about. It was written in 1998 by Ben Moody and modified a lot by him and Amy Lee. For historical record, Amy lost 2 siblings already, Bonnie, in 1987 and Robert, in 2018, but Bonnie, the first one, can probably be one of the reasons for the change in lyrics. (Or not!)

This song is, probably, not about a love relationship or God, religion and all of this,
It's about a spirit.
"I'm so tired of being here, suppressed by all my childish fears,
And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave...
Cause your presence still lingers here,
And It won't leave me alone"
This part tell us about the excruciating pain of being unable to forget this special one who we lost, our memories keep on playing together with our pain, and it goes on and on.
"These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real,
There's just too much that time cannot erase..."
Even Time, as someone who never stops and supposedly, everhealing, has trouble healing us, the subject's mind is on the verge of getting crushed, that's the point where I think the subject is depressed.
"When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears,
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears,
And I held your hand through all of these years,
But you still have all of me."
This part relates to me... about a certain connection between siblings, the subject probably lost a younger brother/sister and that's killing him,
It makes me remember about my older siblings and how they would protect me, every single time, I would get into trouble, how they would wipe my tears, how they would let me sleep with them when I was afraid of sleeping in my room, alone, and all of these sibling things...
"You used to captivate me, with your resonating light,
Now, I'm bound by the life you left behind,
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams,
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me..."
Yeah, the subject really lost a younger sibling, "Resonating Light" probably refers to a child and a light only a child has, the subject surely is getting mad by all these nightmares he is facing, seeing the face and hearing the voice of his loved sibling.
"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone,
But though you're still with me, I've been alone, alone..."
We have a grieving and depressed subject who lost his younger sibling, recently...
(Or not!)
My favorite song from the Aughts.
