I think an underrated thing in the calendar app is using the “time to leave” feature. I also think the alternate list views are not talked about enough. And finally I love how well the calendar app search feature works. I will often remember just one bit about an appointment I set and it will be found!
I like that feature but I always leave super early and like to get places early. Wish they had a remind me x minutes before time to leave for anxious and early people like me lol
I think my favorite feature of apple calendar/iCal is the travel time options. I can have all my appointments automatically estimate the travel time from my previous events location/home. Not only will I get notifications to leave by a certain time, but it also blocks my calendar off during travel time so I don’t have to worry about back to back meetings and appointments without the time to get there.

Fantastic video. I learned so much about Notes with those tips. #1-Adding icons to the title sure does make it easier to find a folder. #2-After viewing your video I realized that a lot of my notes are out of order, in the wrong folders and basically unorganized. Thanks for the easy to follow video. Keep up the great work 👏🏽
MY MIND IS BLOWN!! I have been a apple system user from the beginning and I have used all these other productivity apps that cost me a bunch over the years. That hold and drag and drop is a HUUUGE game changer for me. I’m strictly apple now and no money out of pocket and every thing is synced. You saved my business life 😊❤
Thanks for showing the method of dragging an event into a reminder app. Calendar events also have alert features. One can even set two alters and it works great. So creating a reminder for an event becomes useless.
I like the Travel Time feature when booking an appointment. It helps account for travel time between appointments so I’m not booking appointments to closely together. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks for this review, I hadn't realised attachments could be added. I tried lots of To Do lists/Calendars/Reminder applications over a LONG period, but came back to the (free) inbuilt calendar within Apple as being best suited for my needs - it now serves all those purposes, not just as a calendar & links seamlessly with iPad, Mac and Watch. I create the majority of my Events using Siri "on the go" through my watch. One of the best features for me is being able to "Press and hold" events to reschedule them by sliding them up & down to different times & for events on the same theme (e.g. multiple items to discuss with an individual) sliding them to the same time (on top of each other) then they multiply left to right to keep a clear, uncluttered screen.
How does using the Reminders app cf using Alerts within the Calendar? I tend to use the Calendar to alert me to do something, or that a commitment is coming up in 2 hours + travel time, etc. I don’t find Reminders all that user friendly🤷🏼♀️
The reminder/calendar thing is great for important life events too. Birthdays, anniversaries, etc create a reminder to get a gift, card etc. Shoot this would’ve been super helpful when I used to plan field trips for homeschooling groups.
@1:40 I like the linking back features from reminder app to calendar or notes but I also wish it goes both ways so I can open a reminder item or check if off from within the associated Calendar event and it synced back to Reminder app. I love doing this with my errands and shopping because Maps will already have the location of my next event, at the location I just opened up the calendar event and start checking off my reminder, items or see notes or attachments associated with that event. Please Apple make it so. The more linkable the better. I just have to send them a Feedback report. :)😊
Thank you for the press-hold-drag into different app technique - terrific. Another helpful video. Although I use the Apple calendar all the time because of its integration into Apple, the Apple calendar remains for me the least adequate native app. Actually, it’s the only Apple app that I find deficient enough to demand a third party app alongside. Why? The absolutely inexplicable refusal of Apple to give us a real monthly view that at a glance shows all the monthly events, which is a simple and intuitive way to see patterns and plan events. And so, for example, I use Calendars 5, which for me replaced Fantastical, and I have the Calendars 5 monthly widget on the Home Screen. One tap and all upcoming events for the month appear, as well as open times.
Indeed, I also have used the Outlook calendar. Its aesthetics are excellent. The problems for me is that the mail part of the Outlook app is clunky and ugly, and the app itself is an enormous memory hog on the phone. Also, no Outlook widget presents an entire month on the Home Screen. Go figure.
@@johnriggs5691 I actually prefer the outlook email! I'm working across multiple operating systems including aneroid and IOS and something that integrates with Microsoft's Todo is very handy (and the MS desktop "board" view is brilliant).

What an awesome thing to be able to do, to drag an item from one app to another. I use Gmail though, and it didn't seem to work from there. Bummer. But I did get a note into an event. Thanks!!!
The add attachment feature also works with photos. While viewing photos thumbnails press and hold then close photos open that calendar event and drop into the attachment section.

Thank you for this video, I did not how to create reminders for events. As a person with ADHD, reminders would help with all the reminders to remember it. I use travel time a lot for this now. Even though I work from home on my thesis. I am the planner addict here, my husband, also neurodiverse, just lets me run his social calendar. He has no interest in running the calendar, and since most of the events are in my mind, I can then add it to our social calendar.

Love your content. Would like to share shortcut in calendar. When making follow up doctors appointment, I found that I can duplicate event by simply holding down on item until pop up screen appears. Choose duplicate and make appropriate changes. No need to re-type names and addresses for the future event.
Great tips, like dragging notes into appointments. But to be honest and this probably isn’t a good idea, I just use the calendar app for reminders as well.
Me, too. I just set an alert. The reminders copying function is sophisticated, but in this instance, I pick the 2-second click of an alert to save time.
I find it very frustrating that the iOS version of Calendar only allows “Alert” and “Second Alert” and only with a limited choice of week, days, hours and minutes before The macOS version of Calendar allows an unlimited number of alerts and fully customizable days, hours, minutes before AND after an event. It just doesn’t make sense why the iOS version is so limited. Any tricks for creating more than two alerts in the iOS version of Calendar?

Linking Reminders to Calendars is fantastic, thank you. I hate that Apple don't make this information known more clearly. And I'd really love if we could just get them to create something that would allow us to see reminders, notes and events in one screen. Yes, I can split screen, but managing my day would be a lot easier if I could see all entries in one go rather than switching between 3 apps.

Hi, great video! Another thing that is new to the iOS calendar app: You can now duplicate events (at least, I believe, you could not do that before). Tap and hold the event, then you can cut, copy or duplicate.

a. Notes and amazing notes for iPad are excellent apps to have everything under control. I use it cause I can see my calendar’s events and reminders all in one app. I like how this app displays all the information in the month-view, respects colors and differentiates events from reminders. Even it takes into account the upcoming reminders that you need to be repeated automatically… I use calendar and reminders as entry apps and a.Notes as my final review to see if everything is as planned!!!
All good stuff ... I would love to know if you have a tip or a way of displaying ‘fiscal’ calendar week numbers instead of real world calendar week numbers Work retail ... so I use it for work purposes and the week numbers it displays are either 4 or 5 weeks off due to the fiscal calendar starting in feb vs Jan Don’t think you can ... but again ... all good stuff!
Great video. I wanted to know how to attach an email to a calendar event. For example, I receive a confirmation for an upcoming hotel stay in my email and now I want to add that email to my hotel stay to my calendar event. Thx you again and I really enjoy tour videos, keep them coming.
Can you please do and another Apple Mail iOS 16 video. There are new features we need to learn about. Remind me later. Then there is Follow Up and there there is send later. I would love tips and tricks and to actually know the difference between all (3) of these send later features and how to think of them all. Thanks 🙏 so much. Absolutely love all your videos you a really doing great work.
Every time an iOS update comes out, I think THIS must be the one where I can copy and paste calendar events like I could on my Palm Pilot in 1998. Nope. As a musician, I have a rehearsal at the same time/place on different dates. Apple won’t let me just stamp that around the calendar. So I still use a 3rd party calendar app that will. It’s so weird that I have to do that because Apple is almost 25 years behind such a routine function.
Would the "Repeat" function not work for you in this case? When you create a new event, you can elect to repeat it by customizing the frequency of the event.
Your awesome! Explained super well! Question about shared calendar will who you share with everything? I have several subcontractors I want to share only there own appointments with them. Not all appointments how do I do that

As a shift worker, the only thing lacking in the default calendar app is the ability to (easily) create a calendar for shift patterns, unless there is something I am missing when trying to set one up?
As a chronic Samsung phone user who has also carried an iPhone 11 Pro Max daily for over 2 years this video is really useful. Hitherto I’ve really disliked using the iPhone calendar. I would enter the event on my Samsung phone’s calendar and then sync it with my iPhone’s calendar.
I tried your tip for copying an event from Calendar to Reminders. It did not work in iOS 16. However, I was able to just simply copy and paste it which is a good thing. Thank you for your hard work.
Great video. I just wish Apple would enhance the calendar so you can assign specific colors to events., I.e., birthdays, yellow, doctor appointments red etc. This is a great tool when you’re in a month view and need to quickly identify what is currently a grey dot. This functionality has been google cal and I really miss it in apple calendar.
In fact...you can! I just figured this thing out. It takes a bit of time, but you can add "new calendars" to your calendar specific to the events you want in a certain color. Later, if you no longer need the information colorized, you can "merge" it into the main calendar. Issa gamechanger.
@@bigpaulsorvino ..... thanks for the reply; so do you mean u will have multiple calendars, identified by colors for event types? So a calendar for birthdays, one for medical appointments, one for vacation days etc? That doesn’t give u an all-inclusive month at a glance view with all the “colors” highlighted on the perspective days; or I am misunderstanding??
Why not just set an alert reminder in Calendar? Seems like a lot of extra work to set up a reminder for a Calendar Event in Reminders rather than setting an alert reminder in Calendar
Calendar is really useful once you populate it with details. it becomes smarter the more info it is fed. I often work at different properties and by adding a calendar widget to the lock screen, along with my Spotify widget, I can get directions to the location, an auto reminder to check in with the client (just from populating their phone number and address into the event notes) and start my music all from the lock screen. I feel that widgets on the home screen are not special, but adding to the lock screen changed things for me.
my favorite feature by far is being able to calculate driving time and set the event alerts based on my location and the destination, in case my location were to change, so would the alert and reminder. As someone with time blindness this helps a lot
I want to be able to set priorities of things I want to see. Right now, the “all day” events show up on top. That pushes my scheduled events to where I cannot see them in certain widgets etc.
Thanks. Good to know. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I’m looking for a Vacation Planner & Organizer. The Apple Calendar seems to fall far short of what I expected. Do you know of a good app?
4:00 why not in 888 years time, improve calendar iOS app, where user tap on live text (date) on photo in photos app, user have the option to choose to append the photo to the calendar app as the photo contains many details and information (reduce admin effort and data entry errors). If its live text on a video, user have the option of appending an iCloud Photos app video link or UA-cam link to the Calendar app which creates a small image preview frame in calendars app (similar to some note taking app).
thanks for you video! I was trying to understand sharing a calendar to someone in a different time zone. with time zone enabled, i'm assuming i can place them properly in MY OWN calendar but DO THEY NEED to have TIME ZONE enabled on their device.
While I like how the calendar can sync across my husband and my phone, I wish we could make templates. I’ve used WeekCal since iOS 3.1 because it had more features. Been using it ever since. (I’m not trying to plug this app, but it’s like the iOS iCal, but with some bonus features) Whenever I have a nosebleed, it’s easy to tap from my template library to document it for my doctor. (Medically-necessary) Working overtime? 1 tap and there it is. View the entire week, (not just 6am-8pm from each day)
If I create an event from an email as he shows here when I open the event and scroll down there’s a link under URL that says show in mail. This link will open the email.
Are you listening through my phone?? Haha Was just talking about this yesterday. One thing that bugs me so much is that it just shows dots in month view
Thanks for the great tips ! Sadly I can’t choose which account I’d like to link a new calendar, it’s set by default to “on my iPhone” or “on my MacBook” and I can’t change it. Any idea on how I should proceed?
In the month view in the calendar when there is something scheduled a gray dot appears under the date. Why can’t apple colorize this dot?!!! I am a firefighter and work a 2 day week schedule that rotates. I should be able to open the calendar and see RED dots under the dates I have to work. Please let me know your thoughts and if you need more info from me.
You could just use a work calendar as well as your default one, these would then have separate colours associated with them. When you add your work days as events, you’d then just say which calendar it relates to. Then when you look at your calendar you’d see events from different calendars with a different colour dot.
Hello. I have a simple question. When I set up an appointment in my calendar, there is a section that allows me to add the travel time. Is there anyway I can keep this travel time constantly on., Instead of going in each time and turning it on. I know it’s a small thing, but I use Calendar basically for setting appointments that require travel. Thank you
The calendar widget you showed in the video, anyway to make it show on going things? For example, if I have an appointment between 12-17 it disappears when the time reach 12 and I want it to show until it ends. Anyway to fix that?

Brilliant presentation, clear complete and highly informative
I would love to know if you have a tip or a way of displaying ‘fiscal’ calendar week numbers instead of real world calendar week numbers
Work retail ... so I use it for work purposes and the week numbers it displays are either 4 or 5 weeks off due to the fiscal calendar starting in feb vs Jan
Don’t think you can ... but again ... all good stuff!
Awesome! Love this video!!! Great job!
I think Hen Kar a couple notes down has solved the aggravation - you apparently *can* duplicate an entry now. 👏
Would the "Repeat" function not work for you in this case? When you create a new event, you can elect to repeat it by customizing the frequency of the event.
Excellent, clean and precise. Thank you for the timestamps. Well done
Mind blown. This long-time iPhone user learned some new tricks. Thanks!
Your awesome! Explained super well! Question about shared calendar will who you share with everything? I have several subcontractors I want to share only there own appointments with them. Not all appointments how do I do that
Amazing insights , thank you. I’ve been looking for an easy way to add files to meetings forever!!
The event from photos is super helpful!
New subscriber here. In need of a personal planner I was researching how to devise one in Apple’s native apps. Thank you for the drag and drop info!
Another good one! BTW, I note a reference to "my wife," where's a few months ago it was "my girlfriend" so where can we find your wedding gift wish list!?
Thanks! We tied the knot back in May, and had a honeymoon registry at the time, which we used to help fund a trip across the west coast of America.
Wauw on the adding files to events (and other tips I didn’t know). Thank you!
I love your iPhone videos. You explain things so clearly. Thank you.
Always wanted to add an attachment to an event from my mail, didn’t knew till date.
Personally I prefer Fantastical right now. I hope eventually the stock app will be better but for now, that’s the one I prefer. :)
is fantastical free?
@@ellewilliford6416 If I'm remembering correctly, yes there is the free version. I pay a yearly subscription for a few extra conveniences.
Thanks, this video is quite useful!
Extremely well presented - clear, concise and extremely useful.
I’ve subscribed to the channel to see what other gems are available
Thank you….
Your videos on iPhone are informative, interesting and authentic! Your presentation is impressive! Please upload detailed videos on iPhone backup on Windows pc and organising iTunes and of course the best tips for the security of iPhone.
Perfect 👍, thank you again for the education 😀. Got one or two great tips from this video which will really help me on a daily basis 👍👍👍 Top man
Yes the create event can be used from messaging apps too.
Calendar to reminders is insanely useful.
As a shift worker, the only thing lacking in the default calendar app is the ability to (easily) create a calendar for shift patterns, unless there is something I am missing when trying to set one up?
Try super shift. Have used it for 6+ years. Yes it means having 2 apps but I like work and home being separate personally
Can you make reoccurring days as opposed to dates. Like every 2nd Tuesday ?
I needed this. Somehow I’ve got 7 calandres on my iPhone and I want to consolidate everything into my iCal.
I want to be able to set priorities of things I want to see. Right now, the “all day” events show up on top. That pushes my scheduled events to where I cannot see them in certain widgets etc.
Finally you can copy a prior appointment or event to a future date!
Tom, thanks for the great video. BTW, can you tell me where you got your desk monitor shelf? Have you done a video on your desk setup?
Thanks. Good to know. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’m looking for a Vacation Planner & Organizer.
(I’m not trying to plug this app, but it’s like the iOS iCal, but with some bonus features)
Whenever I have a nosebleed, it’s easy to tap from my template library to document it for my doctor. (Medically-necessary)
Working overtime? 1 tap and there it is.
View the entire week, (not just 6am-8pm from each day)
As usual, good stuff. Can one attach an email to an event? So when you look at it you can see the email that contained information about it?
If I create an event from an email as he shows here when I open the event and scroll down there’s a link under URL that says show in mail. This link will open the email.
Ah right; will try. Thanks.
@@Barbie.7884 Ooh. It worked, thanks
Are you listening through my phone?? Haha
Was just talking about this yesterday.
Hi
How can you link calendar and maps so you can know when to leave from
Your current location and be on time on your date
😅
I want the event to remain linked to the email it was sourced from. Does it do that?
Thank you for this video! Do you know if it is possible to accept a meeting invitation in the calendar app without sending a reply?
Thank you
I just found your videos and they are fantastic! Thank you for the tips and tricks.
Great video!
The calendar widget you showed in the video, anyway to make it show on going things? For example, if I have an appointment between 12-17 it disappears when the time reach 12 and I want it to show until it ends. Anyway to fix that?
Thank you, I really appreciate your videos!
Floating calendars for making events in different time zones
Lmao, I had such a huge gripe with the lack of compatibility between notes and calendar: can’t attach a note ! But hey, always a relief to find out it’s human error 🎉😅😊
