I get you, Marquess… I use Apple Calendars and Reminders and they lack some features, but it's in generell good enough. I sort my tasks with the Eisenhower matrix (as smart lists), so I use priorities a lot. A total Game Changer for me was setting the double back tap on the iPhone to a Shortcut for "Add Reminder": This way I can enter the task, the date, time, location and priority all in one tap without have to extra open the Reminders app. Absolutely love this feature!
Also, do you know Thomas Frankly? His YT is centred around productivity and I love it; maybe you'll enjoy it, too!

Apple Reminders has gotten an upgrade a few months ago.
So you can make lists like “High Priority List” and “Low Priority List”
and set it up so when you create a new task and tag it as high priority, it’ll automatically go to the “High Priority List”

If your Google Keep notes have a date, it will show up in your calendar. This thing is so underrated. I use it to be reminded of checklists.
On the other hand the lack of dedicated webpage for google tasks really limits my use-case. Their integration in google calendar is fantastic, but it's too limited as a standalone service.

Google Tasks is held back so much by Google, it's crazy. "Voice recorder" is great for all reminders in my experience. Also, it's quite good for depression as i get a bit depressed sometimes and don't have anyone to call. Ultimately I make a recording or video to call myself and then watch (or listen to) it back with as much self-empathy as I can fathom. It's actually really helpful. In the old days, you were expected to write in a diary, but now that feels unnatural to me and impossible because it'd take up too much time! I know you may say that relying on a machine is sub par, but it can be a great thing too as when you are less stressed your memory and cognition can work better again later. Knowing your mental limitations is important, so just keep in mind that a machine is a crutch.

Microsoft To Do, iPhone Reminders, Alexa lists or alarms for tasks, depending on when, where and what. My notes are a big mess though, Telegram for things for later, Notion for big fat notes with lots of ideas or whatever I have in reach when it's a volatile thought I want to lay down fast... oooo I would LOVE a calendar that does that "make it more transparent" thing that daybridge might bring to the table. my calendar sounds like it looks like Marques's ... I will say I do like that I can toggle calendars on and off with Google so if I just wanna look at work stuff I can do that... but even as someone who prefers it this way they are overwhelming when they're all toggled on so the transparency thing would be awesome.
also I LOVE you guys being honest about these things. I have ADHD and I also have a lot of people in my life who just remember things like "take the trash out" and I feel ashamed when they're like why is THAT on your calendar?
funny thing from me. really really important stuff gets into my calendar. it gets into notion. AND I set an alarm for it... the biggest reason because sometimes if I'm hyperfocused on something a simple reminder notification is not enough to get my attention... honestly sometimes I gotta get real extra and use an alarm app that makes me do something like a math problem in order to turn it off... so I have to fully turn my attention to it to get the alarm to stop. otherwise it is possible I'll just turn the alarm off on accident instead of snoozing and still forget. 😬 I'm glad these things exist. my ADHD would be fully debilitating-- with how the world is set up-- without these reminders. but with them I can be pretty functional

I do the same thing. I live in the apple reminders, maps, and calendar app. I use the calendar with locations and times for appointments, and apple calendar can now send you reminders for when you need to leave according to traffic, or time you’ve allotted for travel. The location corresponding with your event shows up right at the top of the map app so you can just tap it and go instead of digging through your calendar app. Reminders for apple has gotten really robust compared to how it was when it first released. You can add so much information to each individual task including links, location, time, pictures, sub tasks, and more. You can even make reminders list templates. I like being able tell Siri “remind me to feed the dog when I get home” and it will send me a reminder notification that will stay on my Lock Screen until I complete it. You can also tell it “remind me to take out the trash (tonight, tomorrow, Friday) at 6pm” and it will populate with all that information. There’s so many things you can do with the reminders app with categorization and different lists. Just being able to say “hey siri add ground beef to the grocery list” is really nice. When I’m already on my phone I’ll use an app called “remind faster” that allows you to type in information and quickly add things to reminders with natural language input. So you can type “take medicine (tonight, tomorrow, Friday) at 6pm”, hit the arrow, and it gets sent to reminders. I set a lot of reminders with future dates and times if they’e more tasks oriented, and I have a widget for what’s due today that’s in order and separated according to what’s due in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I have certain reoccurring tasks on different lists that will come up weekly and will show in the “today” view. Best thing about all this is it’s completely free.

    I am the same.
I live my life like that.
I have so many tasks in my tasks app (Things 3), but I really like it, cause I can just add everything to the inbox and then put time against them at night.
The calendar app I love dearly is fantastical. It looks beautiful.
And it has features like add a location and it will alert accordingly based on the eta from your current location to the destination and many more.

Just like MKBHD, I have literally tried every task or calendar app available on play store. Finally for calender, I settled for Google Calendar and for tasks, I settled for Microsoft to-do.
As a guy who has ADHD; I need someone to remind me or tell me what am i supposed to do when and that's when these apps come in. Even stupid reminders like shave beard every sunday is fed in my to-do list and reminder is set. I am fine with google calendar features although I am also exploring outlook calender again; However I wish MS to-do had a feature to remind me of sub-tasks; it would be like my dream come true if that happened. Google tasks has this feature, but ms to-do feels more elegant.

I’ve tried out this one called Motion that was really interesting. It used AI to automatically find or even make space for events based on priority.
I decided to cancel the free trial bc the app is still very young, and didn’t include every detail I was looking for in an all-in-one solution..

I can totally relate and i was like that 15+ years ago. I was constantly making lists of what i need to do. Before i had a computer it was on pieces of paper. Then txt files. Then i have bought my first reminder app (Chameleon Clock). Later i have switched to Rainlendar on my PC. I have too many reminders. Constantly trying to reduce the number. I do also have reminders for small things i do every day and most of them i remember anyway, so maybe i don't need a reminder, but this is just anxiety and fear to forget. On my phone i sometimes use Keep and shoot emails to myself with notes to do something. Probably 10% Keep, 20% email, 70% Rainlendar. At work it is 90% Microsoft To Do and 10% Outlook Calendar.

I discovered watching this that I also use the clock app as my tasks app. I have hundreds pre-made alarms for about every 10 mins of the day and just change the "label" on a regular basis... take out the trash, get gas, send package. And yes I add multiple alarms about 5 mins after the first in case I get disctracted.

Pro tip - Always set a date and time for tasks, makes you way more likely to complete them.
Also, I think reminds are going to be migrated to tasks in the future, there is already a “covert to task” option, so hopefully Google Assistant shortcuts will follow that 🤞

Lol this is me too… love trying new apps, but right now, I’m really integrated into the calendar app (just the standard one) and TickTick. It helps me record events (calendar) and tasks to do (TickTick). I’m a little different though, since I don’t have the 2 integrated, since I feel like if I have too much stuff on my calendar, I’d just start feeling overwhelmed. That mentality is what helps me strive to keep my unread e-mail count low and my tasks low, but if it isn’t essential and I don’t have a lot of stuff to do… it likely isn’t happening 😂

  • @hurleyman77

The biggest reason I use clock alarms instead of calendar reminders is because the calendar notification is too subtle, and I don't want to spend my life checking notifications. I get notifications ALL THE TIME that I don't actually need to look at immediately, and there's no way to differentiate between "bleep-bloop: someone replied to your comment on the Waveform Clips video" which I definitely want to know about, but don't need to deal with immediately, versus "bleep-bloop: you need to pick someone up at the airport, it's 2 hours away, and you need to leave right now." An alarm in my clock app is the only way I have to distinguish between "Do this now" versus "Do this today." I even prefer Outlook at work, because it will POP-UP A DIALOG about the upcoming meeting. If I've forgotten about that meeting, the pop-up interrupting what I'm doing is really critical.

yeah this is my complaint as well... really calendars need a way to create event/task chains, because some things are dependent on other things being complete, as opposed to being tied to a specific time. in this particular case the event chain would be [Catch A Flight]→[pickup rental car]→[Check Into Hotel] where the notification for "check into hotel" is dependent on arrival at the destination airport car rental lot.

On Google Calendar - for reminders or tasks that don't need a specific time slot or aren't as important, like receiving a package or hotel check-in info - I created a color code that is very bright, almost white, that blends in well with the background of the calendar, so it does not interfere with my vision when I'm quickly scanning through the days, weeks, etc.
