Thank you so much for this video, PHT. I remember my girlfriend getting hype when interactive widgets were launched because of Reminders. Being an Apple ecosystem user for over a decade, I never really gave Reminders a chance and didn't care to. It didn't suit my workflow. I'm extremely tech-savvy/literate, but even with the new iteration of Reminders, I was too lazy and too loyal to Todoist to give it another go. This video is the epitome of the type of content I live for on YT. Not even halfway through the video, I've decided to give Reminders another shot. I appreciate your thorough walkthroughs and can imagine it'd help those who aren't tech-savvy and/or are new to Apple. Immediately subscribed. All the best!
imo they should combine calendar and reminders so u can add a reminder to an event cos its so weird with all the apple integration i can add an event add a note to it, it will appear on my apple watch but then i gotta add a reminder for things i have to get ready before the event in a separate app in a separate way
welcome ios 18 lol been using the beta and it's pretty cool but idk.. sometimes i wish a reminder could be set up with a time range vs just a speciif time... even tho i know that then you can just add an event instead but sometimes it's like nahh this is a remidner but it'll take me 2 hrs to do etc etc... even using the ios 18 beta. it' super clutch having reminders and calendars together. but idk decided to test out ticktick and somehow i find it better and it links with my remidners so i can speak to siri to create remidners and it'll link to ticktick and create time ranges so it's like a good mix
It’s really a pleasure to watch your videos. I think I’ve never seen someone explaining the features of an app in such a calm and professional way. Keep it up!
Is there a way to make reminders show up in calendar? I often reference my calendar app and being able to see my reminders on my calendar would be great. I feel that this should be a feature created forever ago, but I haven’t seen it if it is.
I haven’t found a way with the Apple Calendar. If you use Fantastical you can have your reminders on the calendar. In addition, I use Microsoft ToDo and it syncs with reminders and Fantastical.
they don't have a way to have a calendar event linked to reminders, but if your drag and drop a reminder into your calendar you can make an event prepopulated with the info in the reminder. If you change the reminder, it wont update the calendar event, but if you are usinging it for time blocking or for a couple important reminders you want on your calendar, it works fine
Good video👍🏻. Linking various Apple native apps or 3rd party apps on both iOS & Mac OS is a rare topic on UA-cam. Please do more of such linking apps videos as & when newer OS versions release. Thank you.
Your videos are great: to the point without too much verbiage, and always show great examples. My favorite part of Reminders is setting a "location" to a list or items; and when I arrive at that location it pops up on my SmartWatch and iPhone. I buy specific items at specific stores so adding a location allows the list to pop up when I arrive at the location. Grocery shopping and marking off the list is so convenient. I even ask Siri to help but gets a lot of stares from others. And if I need a reminder at work, add the location and date and when I arrive on Monday, it pops up and am reminded. Same for medical questions: pops up on my watch so I don't forget to access the list!
Excellent video! I have used reminders for years but never tapped into their full potential. Thank you for presenting the capabilities in an easy to follow format. Especially love the mail reminder feature!
🤯 When you showed how to change the display to "Horizontal View" (4:40) you caught me off guard as I was not expecting to learn anything radically new from this video. Combined with the sections and sub tasks for which up to now I had no use for and within an hour I abandoned "Trello" and converted a project I am working on (game dev) to use Reminders. Using a native app on my Mac, iPhone and iPad is much easier (and free) then using a 3rd party solution. After some quick testing it works really well as a Trello replacement (for my needs)... Thanks for the great video!
Very useful info in this video! I have been using Notes and Reminders but this tutorial gave me many more ways to use Reminders more effectively! Thanks so much! You always give very clear and concise instructions that are easy to follow. However, I will save this video to watch again to be able to grasp all that you shared. As a Senior adult, it takes me a few times of watching the tutorials on my iPad while doing the steps on my iphone before I get the “hang” of the Tip! Thanks again! I am glad I found your channel!❤😊
I've been an Android user for over 10 years. Thanks in part to your excellent videos, I'm planning on upgrading to iPhone when the 16 comes out! Thank you for the informative vids.
Great video! Compelling reasons to switch, however, the only key feature missing (or seems missing to me) is calendar blocking. Without this, its preventing me from moving from using google tasks. Is there a workaround to enable this?
Although I'd love to use all features available, I can't, really, because I'm using a third party calender hosting service, which doens't have these features...
This was just what I needed, thanks. What about resetting reminders that are due? I have work tasks that, if not completed by the end of Friday, will only offer to remind me in an hour, later tonight, or tomorrow. If I click on in I get the extra option of 'next weekend'. Am I missing something? Can i manage it via locations or something?
Hey mate, great job with this video. Probably one of your strongest videos. Reminders is an app that I know exists but I do not use it enough. This video serves as a "reminder" to use the feature more and more.
Is there a way the Timer app can be linked to reminders? I’m thinking that I would like to remind my son of things he needs to do and keep doing for a period of time - like cleaning his teeth for 3 minutes, or piano practice for 30 minutes etc
Great! I'd love to see more use-cases, rather than just how-to. Tags, for example, seem a little hard to understand at first without more examples. Thanks!
Really informative, thank you! I have been thinking that I would need to pay for a third-party app to do this kind of stuff, but it looks like Reminders will do everything I need it to do and for free! I have ADHD and always find your videos really clear and easy to follow. Thank you!
In Todoreminder I can schedule a reminder for a certain day and select for times in a day that reminder will repeat. I can schedule the primary reminder to repeat every month and the four time slots will repeat on that day each month. Is this achievable on Apple reminders?
Great video and breakdown of all the features! I've been doing a lot in Things 3, and haven't thought of a way to mimic Quick Capture for Reminders, but I do like how Apple built in the Kanban style into lists too now if you want. Will be curious to see what their alleged AI updates bring about this summer for Reminders, Notes, Mail, etc!
4:54 Apple iOS reminders app in columns view problem is require finger yoga which may be higher barrier of entry or usage efforts for some types of users. Why not learn from Craft iOS app, where user can swipe left on each “reminder block” to select it, swipe screen to navigate to desired section header, tap and hold on section header to open command menu to “drop” previously selected reminders block into section header? The dropped reminders block remains selected and user can tap and hold on the multiple blocks to rearrange the blocks in the relevant upper or lower part of order of the section.
One thing I haven’t been able to find or figure out yet: you know how you can press and hold on a Reminder notification to get options such as ‘remind me tomorrow’, ‘remind me in an hour’, etc? Well, if that Reminder notification has been cleared/dismissed, I’d like to know if it’s possible to access those same options within the Reminder app itself rather than the notification.
Hi, thank you so much for the video. It’s really useful, but I have a question how you copy a contact information from the iPhone and then you paste it on the reminder included the name and the phone number??
Since you've posted this great video about the Reminders app, I have a simple question. Maybe I'm dumb, but I seriously need the answer. When I ask Siri to remind me about something at a specific time, it doesn't send me any notification to that particular time. Also, If I set a reminder for any other day, at 5AM I get a notification, but if the reminder is set for the same day after 5AM, I never get the notification. Why? And how to get the notification?
Hi, I find your videos on the iPhone features very useful. I do have a question on the Reminders app…I do not get the ‘New Sections’ option when I hit the ellipsis at the top right. I’m on 17.4.1 on a 15 pro. Any thoughts as to why not?
Cool stuff! I will (once again) give Reminders another shot. I have tried going back to Reminders from time to time over the years and I always find it lacking. He didn't mention if you can attach a photo to a reminder. Anyone know if you can?
One of my most valuable smart lists is Untagged Items. I tag everything but sometimes I neglect to and they become difficult to find. But having a pinned smart list lets me see if any items slipped through without being tagged.
Great tutorial! but I can't choose type list! This option does not appear and therefore I cannot produce smart lists. I have an iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 17.2. Maybe it's a bug? Thank you Rosary
Other competitors in the task manager spaces are only more complex. When you have all those functions, UI just cannot get that simple. Todoist and other apps all require some time to learn how to use them.
@@princediesel1 people don't HAVE TO anything. If Apple want their overpriced, under-supported product to remain a market leader, it might be helpful for them to embrace a little more transparency
It would take too much time and effort for Apple to go in depth when most people only utilize a tiny percent of the iPhone’s capabilities. Those who really want to learn, will.
When I add a new list I don't have the list type option it gives me the filter option where in your iPhone you have the list type. Is it an iOS version option or an iPhone model option? I have the last iPhone SE
Is there a way to create both a grocery list and a smart list at the same time? It would be nice to receive a reminder notification when I arrived at a certain store. I don’t want to set a reminder by each item in my grocery list.
You can do that by settling up an automation in shortcuts. Proper Honest Tech has a good video on how to do automations. I am not super tech savvy and was able to do it with his video. Now my I get a notification to check my list when I go to Trader Joe’s
I tried swapping to a Samsung phone a few years ago. I couldn't find any app that could do what Reminders on iOS does (being able postpone a reminder for an hour or day, etc is my FAVORITE thing about Reminders) & what lead me to swap back to iPhone.
Great video. But as usual it´s not the same for all countries. This stops for me after 2:19 min. I cannot see any List types (Standard, Shopping or Smartlist). iOS 17.3.1 Denmark
Hi, I am using reminders from last week for my daily use. I have put reminders widget on my home screen. The problem is i can not mark my completed tasks. It is showing that task in pending for tomorrow. If i am checking in widget its not showing that either. Can you please help me.
Something you missed! You can drag reminders right into the Calendar app. It's a little limited though as it does not "link" the reminder to the event, but rather it just creates a new event. Still helpful for getting a visual of what will be happening through your day. The way I use it: 1. Write out any and all tasks throughout the day. 2. Sort tasks into Important/Urgent (Eisenhower) Matrix "Sections". 3. Drag most important tasks into Calendar for the beginning of the day (when we typically have the most energy). 4. Extend event to estimated length. 5. Do the same for fun/less important tasks for last half of the day.
I don’t have some of these options, like adding emojis to my lists. My software is up to date with 17.2.1. Maybe these options are only for brand new iPhones?
This is a great idea but I don’t have any of these features in my app!? It’s really frustrating because I want to use it like this. I can’t seem to find the fix. Do you know how to include these functions?
Thank you for your video(S) That are really helpful. I have a question, I don't have the option Shopping in the Add list section. My region is in France and I a having a iPhone 15. Is it the region or my iPhone why this is not available. Thank you!
Okay I have an iMac in the office and and iPhone in my pocket. I generally spend up to two hours in the morning doing admin before heading out on the road to various sites where i need to do things. On my iMac I get a shedload of emails overnight which I deal with first thing. Some of those emails say things like 'Talk to Charlie about xxx' or 'I need to knnow the height of such and such a wall'. At the moment I'm retyping that stuff into the reminders app on the iMac and its great to have the details in my pocket but I cannot seem to just drag the email straight onto Reminders app icon in the dock. What am I doing wrong?
Just mention the list when asking. For example, I have a list called "newsletter ideas". So let's say I'm out and I get an idea for the newsletter about the new iPads being released, I might say to Siri "add new iPads launch to my newsletter ideas list". Siri knows what to add, and where to add it.
I am having problems with my remember this short cut. It was working but will not work now I get a warning message saying it could not find a helper app. Do you have any ideas?
only thing i can think you missed is location based reminders when arriving or leaving specific places. I use mine when I for get things at my family and friend's houses. so next time I get there, I'm reminded to grab it
BTW - any tips on reminding me to return my Audio Books to the library so I don't incur a fine? I'm 78 and no longer drive so returning ALL my Audio Books in a group will saves me hours of walking. Also, I recently discovered why we in the Colonies have yet to switch to the Metric System - We haven't figured out Metric Time as yet. (please be laughing by now).

At the moment I'm retyping that stuff into the reminders app on the iMac and its great to have the details in my pocket but I cannot seem to just drag the email straight onto Reminders app icon in the dock. What am I doing wrong?
Reminders is good on the phone, but the font size is so small on the mac it isn't usable. Does anyone have any fix for that?
I use Reminders but it certainly is not intuitive. Hard to Learn! Excellent video!
Yes, I find it long winded to get things working.
Really useful video. I LOVE the reminders app and really miss it if I switch to Android.
Nice video! I’ve learned a lot 🎉
Very clear presentation as always, thanks!
This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for ⚫REMINDING me of this! 👍 Very useful!
I am trying to use Siri to add reminders in specific lists. Could you touch on the best way to do that?
Just mention the list when asking. For example, I have a list called "newsletter ideas". So let's say I'm out and I get an idea for the newsletter about the new iPads being released, I might say to Siri "add new iPads launch to my newsletter ideas list". Siri knows what to add, and where to add it.
I am trying to figure out how to use Reminders and Calendar together. Any thoughts?
Thank you! I never knew reminders could do all of this!!
Great video! Does anyone know how I can set up the reminders app in a way that the notifications for tasks with due dates stay on my Lock Screen?
Excellent video… I had no idea about all these functions…… I’m going to try it out and possibly change over 👍
How did I miss that smiley face emoji option all this time? Very informative video, thanks.
I am having problems with my remember this short cut. It was working but will not work now I get a warning message saying it could not find a helper app. Do you have any ideas?
only thing i can think you missed is location based reminders when arriving or leaving specific places.
I use mine when I for get things at my family and friend's houses. so next time I get there, I'm reminded to grab it
Great video! Keep it up!
Very informative, I’m going to give this app another go instead of just quick reminder here and there
BTW - any tips on reminding me to return my Audio Books to the library so I don't incur a fine?
I'm 78 and no longer drive so returning ALL my Audio Books in a group will saves me hours of walking.
Also, I recently discovered why we in the Colonies have yet to switch to the Metric System -
We haven't figured out Metric Time as yet. (please be laughing by now).
