It is really always helpful to others to offer traveling advice. Its like being kind to strangers to warn them about pitfalls and the more i see warnings about Egypt the more i believe that this place is one big pitfall.
It's not only the hostel that dies this. It happens often no matter where you go and what you do. The thing to avoid getting scammed is to make sure everything is agreed upon and in writing. Threaten to call the cops. Don't fall for the nice attitude. They use it to disarm you.
Well I’ve been to Egypt 9 times. I’ve went through the back way to the pyramids loads of times because you actually avoid the annoying guys with the horses that try to stop the taxi and try to get you to go with them. They have an official ticket book outside of the KFC that you mention. The problem was just with the hostel unfortunately and that they scammed you. If you’re traveling to Egypt for the first time I definitely do recommend you be with an Egyptian. Sorry this happened to you. There are loads of great hostels and hotels downtown. It’s literally my favorite place to stay at. Also for anyone ever traveling to Egypt, if anyone every quotes a price in dollars instead of Egyptian pounds - avoid at al costs.
The first hint that something was wrong was when the receptionist said the word "free." When is anything free in Egypt? Interesting story. Love watching your travels.
I went into their (Cheers Hostel Google map review) review section and left 1 star review with the link of this video. May the Lord grant you Blessings and Protection!!!
Thanks for the heads up. My family and I are still here and we have had our share of scammers and attempted scammers. I do know though that even here when you blow the whistle on their operation it hurts them bad in the pocket, so I also was telling everyone about them and their scams
yeah it hurts them quite a bit in the pockets, Im not in the country so best thing I could do is spread the world online and let the internet take over from there. Have fun with your family and be safe though, new scams are being created everyday.
Lots of scammers in Egypt. Be careful. They talk the good talk, make promises, don't deliver on those promises, and increase the price that was originally agreed upon.
You are failing to realising a simple concept - in places like Cairo, people just see you as a walking ATM. Ignore everyone ... do your own thing. You'll figure it out.
Bro I’m watching this laughing so hard. Me and you had the exact same experience. Literally almost word for word. Only difference was that it wasn’t between a hostel. It was like 7 people going back and forth passing me around and no one taking accountability for it. Overall i wasn’t mad just surprised how they move out there. I negotiated it during sunset and got it for around $20 so i wasn’t too mad. I did the small tour they said and went through the back. I declined the same head wrap when they said the price. The guide was super uninterested but i was just amazed so i wasn’t mad at all. The way i see it is it’s an experience I’m never going to have again. Why stress. Thank you for sharing this experience bro
you laughing at the part where I talk about being passed around like a cheerleader huh? lol It certainly felt like that. When did you go to Egypt? I was surprised too, but came to the conclusion I don't like how they move, why you're right, why stress? just enjoy the experience. I forgive but i don't forget
I’m in Cairo right now and my hotel just attempted similar shit but I said no to the tour then they tried to down grade my suite room to a hole in the wall room. It was an hour long argument all over the hotel . Disgraceful
Thanks for sharing. I am so sorry for their mistreatment of you. That was inexcusable. As I’ve shared with you previously, I’ve had a similar experience with mistreatment and deceit from two receptionist at Hapi Hotel in Aswan, Egypt. I was dissatisfied with the service and decided not to stay for the entire reservation. I asked for a receipt to show that I only stayed for one night because I didn’t want them to charge me for the entire stay. Suddenly, I was offered a room upgrade, apology and so much more. I declined and insisted on getting a receipt. While one of the receptionist went to print out the receipt, her coworker (not knowing that she went to print the receipt) started giving me a lot of excuses as to why can’t get a receipt. She deferred me back to the booking agency saying I can only get it from them while pleading with me not to cancel the remaining reservation. Then, the other receptionist brought the receipt, handed it to me with a pen to sign. While I was reviewing it, the other receptionist said something to her in Arabic (maybe that she told me that she had previously told me I can’t get a receipt). The one who gave me the receipt started telling me that I can’t keep it. It’s for their records and attempted to take it back. She lunged after me in an attempt to retrieve the receipt. I gave it to my niece to take a photo while blocking the receptionist to prevent her from taking it. She (my niece) took the photo. The receptionist grabbed the receipt. We left. Stayed at Movenpick. Reported them to tourist police.
I remember your story like it was yesterday, I didn't hear from you again but Im glad you been watching the journey on youtube. What was the outcome after you reported to tourism police?
With research yes you are more aware but I think moral of the story is you cant trust everyone who smiles in your face one of my favorite quotes - Just because you see the lion’s teeth, don’t assume that the lion is smiling”. Al-Mutanabbi
Like all countries there are a lot of bad people in Egypt I’ve been scammed last time at the barber shop this summer one thing I would advise you try and find an Egyptian guy that speaks English online who won’t take money from you to travel around with you if you ever go Egypt in the next summer I could help you with visiting the country anyway keep up the work man !!
hey thanks so much for taking the time to hear what I had to say, I could of definitely used a tour guide when I first arrived but I was very adamant on doing it alone, look where that got me lol I've made alot of friends now so in the midst of me coming back I wont have that problem again. I would not mind you helping me explore around the city too, that would be great! thanks again, hope to see you on the next video ✈️
Ask pertinent questions and get the agreement in writing. Do that and scammers will know thyrbcant scam you, and if they try then tell them to fuck off and call the cops.
Brother sorry U had to find out that in Egypt there are MANNNNY SCAMMERS and they are all named Muhammed 😎My first impression was that everyone was a professional HUSTLER and the sad thing is they all form a syndicate, so they all work together. I had to insist that I only wanted 1 tour guide and not 10 guides. If they take U to a store it's all planned. It's crazy there. So you live and U learn. Thanks for the message. I can see nothing has changed since I visited over 10 years ago 😎
But why do you absolutely need a guide? Can't you walk by yourself, instead of following the tourist scammers?! I've been to Egypt a lot of times, and I never had such stupid behaviour...
LOL why you let yourself get scammed, dont trust people so fast in a Foreign country. Stay private, and do your own thing after analyzing your opponents. I would have been bailed out, rather than to be tossed around by all those people! LOL but you let yourself be scammed, its you trusting and taking the bait each time. Haha
Egypt was a first time for me, and I came into the country with open arms, unfortunately these men took advantage of my kindness, It happens but lesson learned. Didn't cost me my pockets but it will cost them their business.

it's so hot you feel like you might die, while figuring out the exchange rate and they keep you confused it's like torture
haha yeah lol I went to Egypt during their summer, it was the worst being under their heat
The first hint that something was wrong was when the receptionist said the word "free." When is anything free in Egypt? Interesting story. Love watching your travels.

sorry to hear that, Cairo is a headache, I would not spend much time there
I went there in 2018 bro and luckily I had a contact before hand and it saved me a lot of trouble but yes in Cairo you have to be very careful
You are the lucky one, I knew nobody prior to coming to Egypt, I have solid close friends now if I were to return.
Thanks for letting us know. It sounded like the Share industry in Vegas...

Moral of the story is do some basic research prior to travelling to Egypt to avoid this disaster of an experience.
