- We’ve reviewed the 4x4 Arrma Granite, Senton and Big Rock. You didn’t think we’d leave out a review of the ARRMA Typhon 4x4 3S BLX did you? Of course not! The Arrma Typhon 4x4 is a ⅛ off-road electric ready to run buggy. Just add four AA batteries, a LiPo pack and a charger and you have yourself a potent basher buggy. This buggy is ready to take on backyard bashing abuse, big air at the BMX track and will probably prove worthy of wheeling for fun at the local RC track. Ok all these RC reviews tell me about the vehicle but none of them tell me how to buy one without the wife knowing. I'm already sold I just gotta sneak it into the house.

Dude i got my wife a ring for our anniversary....she asked me what i wanted. I got the 3s and the 2s. I let her drive the 2 s. Shes jealous of mine........... now were upgrading both because she has a blast! Thats how you do it ✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Just tell her it was a surplus. You literally had to spend it or lose it.
Took mine to a 1/8 track yesterday and it was awesome! It was able to make the sharp turns and clear the biggest jumps, even a triple with a short run-up. Lots of crashes and cartwheels. Nothing broke!
3s is like a 3 inch d. Get an asuga slap In 8s equipment big gears and tires. Then you drive to fuck town. Hard and fast boy!!

Great video. I just found a brushed 550 mega , used. The guy put a brushless system in it, 21 tooth pinion. Gave me a box of upgrade parts, servo, hubs, bearings, 2 lipos, charger, my first Arrma rc, blast to drive , all for $175 . This thing hauls ass
Just got one today. I love this rc car. Easy to drive and it's fast. I having a feeling I'm going to be driving this rc car on a regular basis. Fyi - This is my 9th rc car. All of my rc cars are in great shape (I'm fortunate to live on a golf course).

Ok I'm so confused. For one what does a golf course have to do with how many and the condition of your RC cars and second, why is Bjames offended? I'm mean sure it seems pretty stupid to brag about a golf course, I dont see what that has to do with RC, but I'm not pitching a first like bjames...

I just bought a Arrma Talion over the Typhon. I hope to get a Typhon soon as it was my #1 pick when shopping for a better RC car. I needed the ground clearance from the Talion so I pulled the trigger on it. I loved my shredder but this is a whole different ballpark and even ballgame. I did a double backflip with this thing and would have NEVER thought that was possible with my shredder not from the size but durability. I am blown away by this new experience I didn't even know I was missing out on. Go Arrma!

I went and got one and my wheel came off just like in this video that he didn't say anything about. I got me some loctite and good to go!

I don't know what you're budget is, but if you are going to get a good RC get an Arrma. I have a senton 3s blx, and I only run it on 2s LiPo but it is awesome fun. If you can't afford it, get the Mega 4x4 line of Arrma RC, and later down the road you can upgrade to brushless and LiPo power.
Right now its easily argued they are the best brand.

Thanks greg! I knew after you reviewed the senton and big rock, I knew it wouldn't be long for the typhon. Its AWESOME! PERIOD. Does this thing come with a hex for the wheels?? I heard it doesn't... Strange. I wish they would've included a wheelie bar too.
No 17mm hex wrench included which is odd. The wing acted as a pretty good wheelie bar lol

So im just looking back at this video, and am wondering which one would be better for a first car, the Typhon or Senton 3s? I will mainly be driving it on (semi long) grass and dirt. thanks.
Just got into the hobby not long ago. Love my 2 arrma senton 4x4 brushed models I picked up but tired of breaking mine. Been through a few motors thinking of picking up one of these would this be worth picking up? Or should I grab something else open opinions welcome

Greg another great and informative video; I know that you live in New England area Connecticut where is the snow there famous for or don't you get any.
We've been pretty lucky this year. Only one real snow storm so far and it melted pretty quick. I'm sure we'll get a bunch of snow at some point. That's when I'll shift back to making the "Get Into RC" and "Fix My RC" video series to help new RCers.
Greg, good video, are you driving this one handed? I kept seeing your shadow and the camera stick but I only ever saw one person in those shadows. If your rocking one handed, have this kind of control and making these videos that is really impressive.

The front bumper on my Senton 4x4 broke in the exact same way, but not from the same severity of the impact. I legit think something is up with that skidplate's design
Which would you suggest is the best this or the senton 3s?? Was looking to buy the senton but then this beauty came swooping in haha

maybe i have misplaced concerns but if this were to take a hard nose dive and break the front shock mount, whats the fix? doesnt look like its replaceable.

Maybe I'm too lenient but I don't really fault plastic breaks when running in January. Cold just does that to plastic. Makes it more stiff & brittle. Probably wouldn't happen nearly as likely during the warmer time of year.

Kinda blows my mind that this car is only $339 RTR.
A Traxxas Rustler 4x4 VXL is nearly $100 more for a similar setup, _and_ the Typhon is _bigger_ than the Rustler. That is not a pro or a con (depends on what you're after), but I'm curious how Arrma got the price so low on this offering. Even comes with heatsinks and everything.. how do they offer it so cheaply?
Doin a great job with your channel Greg! Question.. And cause you tested both.. You might can help.. I cant decide between this Typhon 3s BLX and Traxxas's Rustler 4x4 VXL.. Plans are me driving it on dirt, sand, grass and asphalt.. Wich one would you take? And please.. Dont tell me: "Both" ;)

That is my favorite platform from arrma the only downside is the shocks and steering servo must be replaced but it's a great 👍 RC you can't go wrong 😉
@Cagsbo l use arrma typhon 6s shocks and l use eco streeing servo and servox titanium gear ⚙️ servo
3s arma typhon vs the rustler 4x4 on 3s, which would you consider more durable and better basher/unkempt track car.

U will need to upgrade the rustler to compete with the stock typhon
I'd say typhon. Both have pros and cons though, basically I'd choose the one you like more :)
To be honest typhon looks more durable i own traxxas and arrma and arrma seems more durable, in the end it is your choice of course

everything breaks in the cold. dosen't matter what you drive. enough jumping hurts too. I have the big rock 3s and took it out one night this month and broke a bunch of stuff and it was 15 degrees out. my losi 3xle is my go to truck right now and it broke in the cold too.
so if you beat the hell out of it, you break some of the plastic parts. I can live with that.

Bashing or box stock racing with my buds is really a blast .
3S is perfect. Plenty of good Power ..I had the 6S and sold it .. yea it was fast and yea it was cool... but it's too much power ..it just isn't as much fun as the 3S , that is drivable and plenty fast to launch into some big air !!!

RC Driver or anyone else out there, do you know of where you can get replacement front suspension arms from? I broke my left one my first time running and have been on the sidelines ever since. Arrma says they’re on backorder until April. No way I can wait that long! Lol

What battery do you recommend for this I just got the 2021 3s version Im trying to get the most speed and power possible
Greg the weather definitely had something to do with those breakages. I'm guessing you wouldn't get those breakages in normal weather. I'm in the northeast and I don't jump in the winter with any rc cause no matter what rc it is it will break in the cold.
Hi I'm looking for a Typhon for my 6 year old but also for me too use :D Problem is I don't know whether I should get the 4x4 mega or just pay the extra and get the 3s and let him run it on 50%. What do you think ?

Great video, I'm a little confused now though when you said 4WD and not AWD. What is the difference? I thought these were all AWD. Or can you disable it? I'm considering one for racing. Any thoughts?
Hey Scott,
I think, although not positive, that technically for all wheel drive all the wheels have to be capable of driving together, this would probably be done by a limited slip differential. Otherwise a 4x4 technically only one wheel per side, front and back is driving.
Flip a 4x4 RC car on its roof and rotate one wheel by hand either the front or back, only one wheel will move in the direction you are rotating and the other wheel will rotate in the other direction because the differential is not locked.
If the differential was locked then both wheels of either the front or rear would move in the same direction that you are rotating them.

@@treses_1362 First you gotta change the ESC because the one that came with it can't handle 4S batteries. Anyways I did not end up doing it, I bought myself a Typhon 6S and gave this one to my nephew. Its a powerful motor and could easily burn out something so I didn't take the chance. Change other parts like pinion gears and get 3S 100C lipo batteries. He too scared to max it and I almost did but still reached 56 mph from one small upgrade.
Just picked one up. Going to race it this season. Ordered typhon 6s shocks, rpm control arms and aka chain link tires.
Doesn't Arrma have chassis twisting problems? How are parts availability?

Just got into this Hobby. Got a Traxxas Slash 4x4. Great vehicle. My next will probably be Arrma though. Just need to buy new charger and batteries. 😥😥

Guys you don't need a new charger or batteries for that matter, just go on Ebay and they sell all the little connectors to go from traxxas to whatever you need to hook into. I have the traxxas charger and multiple connectors on different batteries and I just get the small connection adapters to go from traxxas to Dean's or with a arrma truck you would go traxxas to ec5. Just ask the sellers on Ebay and they will make sure it's the right one you need. They are cheap too and only like $3-$6. So you definitely don't need to buy new stuff. Although never buy traxxas lipos, they are way overpriced. You can also get the connectors to go from a Dean's or ec5 connector lipo to traxxas end to hook into your traxxas. Hope that helps. But yeah I made the switch to arrma trucks and never going back to traxxas.

@@thatonebigboi2382 no problem man yeah they are all over Ebay and fairly cheap. You should buy any lipos other than traxxas like power hobby or gens ace. They have higher c ratings which gives you more burst/power. Traxxas lipos are too expensive and too low of a discharge rating. You could go with those lipos with a dean's or ec5 connector then just get a matching connector with a traxxas end to plug into the esc.
For grass riding would u recommend the typhon 6s or 3s?

I'm in SoCal and I can tell ya your breakages are definitely temperature related. My Typhon has taken so many hits like those and has only scars to show for it. :)

Stuff breaks, regardless what car you get....if you really bash them (ie have awesome fun!). I don’t know why Arrma use such small bumpers? I replaced the one on my Kraton V3 before it had its first run with one from TBone Racing. Much better. Aprt from their bumpers, I have trouble faulting Arrma
