  • ARRMA RC continues to release products to fill every need in RC. Their latest addition to their line-up is the ARRMA Typhon 4x4 Mega 550 Electric Buggy. Viewers of the channel may recall we’ve reviewed the ARRMA Typhon 4x4 3S a while ago and loved the performance of the ⅛-scale buggy. Well, the Mega is built off the same platform and minor changes were made to it’s features and an electronics swap was performed to make this a much more affordable buggy to get into. The ARRMA Typhon 4x4 Mega 550 is a brushed motor buggy, but don’t worry, it’s electronics package still packs a punch that entry-level RC enthusiasts will enjoy. Off-road buggies are a ton of fun to drive and this platform handles great for any level of driver. Want to get into RC with something super affordable, quick, nearly completely ready to run and with great performance? You’ll need to see everything the ARRMA Typhon 4x4 Mega 550 has to offer in our informative and educational review.

Great review of this buggy! Getting back into RC at 43 with my 9 year-old. My last RC many years ago was an Team Associated RC10L haha. This seems like a great entry level for us to play around with. Do you know if this can easily be converted to a brushless motor?

If you wanted to convert it to brushless you would have to replace the motor and the ESC. It wouldnt be too hard in terms of replacing the parts, but it would be pricy.

I’m sorry man, but I have to say it.... this “spektrum” system is the worst radio gear I tested in my life... no joke about it. It gets SUPER laggy once the vehicle starts to get far. I’ve had 4 of this systems and they all did the same, warranty claims and just came to the conclusion that the system is junk. Don’t get this thinking you can bind it to your existing Spektrum system, cause it’s not dsm/dsm2/dsmr compatible. Horizon is clearly cutting corners with this new radios. They should’ve stick to those Tactic radios they used to come with... they were really nice! Or at the very least, ship them with the Spektrum dx2e they used to come with! On the other hand, Arrma vehicles are nice and this buggy looks great! 👍

The problem is new people want "cheap rcs" and so the manufacturers have to cut corners somewhere. Obviously those of us that have been in the hobby a while know better but I read things all the time from beginners asking what's the best for the cheapest, while there are some good things out there for what we consider cheap, for the most part they have to figure out you get what you pay for. The sad thing is that the cheap stuff is what keeps a lot of new people from really getting into the hobby because of how bad it is, it sucks when you've been out running 5-10 minutes on your first or second day out and you break something. When I got into the hobby I just listened to someone who'd been in the hobby a while and was much happier than if I'd tried on my own. Most of my stuff has been used when I got it too, that's what has really helped me stay in the hobby.

rodpolice You kno dude, not everyone is having a bad experience with the stx2 radio. Some people have yes, and that’s okay. But I really think the problem is people are expecting way too much out of a ready to run radio that’s only meant to get you going.
Do you expect them all to include a 200 dollar radio? I sure as hell don’t. And I have 2 STX2 radios and both work flawlessly so far. If you don’t like the radio replace it and move on, quit bitching about it.

I got the mega Senton for my son. The speed/durability are great for kids...but sadly, a 12t 550 just isn't up to moving this size/weight of truck. The stock motor lasted 4 battery packs. The motor burnt up bad. I put in a traxxas titan 12t, with a heat sink and a fan...it will still start to smell if you run more than one pack back to back...and that is on a 65 degree day, on very short grass and pavement. There is absolutely no way these could ever do 30mph, when the motors burn up doing 20mph. Once the titan 12t gives up, I will have to put a mild brushless setup in it.

I have a question about my Arrma Typhon 3S I received yesterday from Amazon, the front wheels had had so much excessive movement I thought the factory didn't tighten them but they tight. I measure over a 1/4" of play as I was holding the steering still. I must have been the bearings or bearing hub, I have 3 other Arrma vehicles and none of them have slop like this and their used. Any ideas ? I just packed back up and going to exchange it out as it made no sense to try to find and fix a new $400.71 when it's brand new. It would been impossible to trim with any bump in the road making it change direction. I seen a fee videos lately where Arrma's QC hasn't been the best. It's smart to go over and the tightest of bolts and nuts. But now it'd smart to locate axle stub screws, check your slipper clutch setting, your gear mesh and diff fluids. That's a lot of work for a RTR car/ truck to avoid problems. I just wanted to if you ever come across the problem of excessive wheel play out of the box ?

Even for a beginner adult. The 3s version is only $80 more. Or get a granite BLX 4x4 (I know different vehicle) for $250 currently on sale, which is only $30 and it's way faster than this at 50mph. That's what I would do and did actually. And you can still find some of the granites with the TTX300 3-CH radio too. Bam. I got lucky and found mine like that at the LHS

    • @Mini-z1994
      @Mini-z1994 5 років тому +1

Depends really on the model, I've seen like 10 - 25 km/h out of most scale looking crawlers or trail crawlers / trail runners with standard brushed motors & rock racers.
They can be sped up or slowed down via gearing or changing the esc & motor too a lower turn motor or a higher turn motor, or sensored brushless system
if you can its worth sticking another 50 into your budget so you can get something that is better out of the box or buy some better equipment for said rc car or truck. like a proper lipo, new esc & charger like in the video further below on the HB toys trail runner.
Also depends on what you are looking at when it comes too the trophy trucks/short course trucks.
1:18th scale one like the wltoys a969 & 969b is pretty quick out of the box & is great value for the money below 100 usd you can't go wrong really, maybe change too some thicker shock oil all around & buy the 540 motor capable esc & a better 2s lipo & just run it as it is otherwise.
Quite punishing bashing video here, this truck is protected well from its bumper & body so it can take quite the abuse.
      ua-cam.com/video/nEz_EoDrw6E/v-deo.html
Something like this hb toys with a larger 2s lipo would be a pretty decent beginner car for crawling as well, but it would ofc not keep up with something like a traxxas trx4 depending on the terrain, but its a good starter for the money if you look at the video reviews of them.
      www.banggood.com/HB-Toys-ZP1001-110-2_4G-4WD-Rc-Car-Proportional-Control-Retro-Vehicle-w-LED-Light-RTR-Model-p-1448623.html?rmmds=category&ID=41195&cur_warehouse=CN
& with some mods you can make it do this which is pretty cool for under 250 usd if you skip the sound kit.
      ua-cam.com/video/JJkU8koosbU/v-deo.html
There are also rock racers like this that does depending on the battery between 20 - 45 km/h depending on the gear ratio & batteries used in testing, they usually have regular shocks instead of oil filled ones so it will be a bit bouncy when it comes too handling.
      www.banggood.com/Feiyue-FY03H-112-2_4G-4WD-Brushless-Rc-Car-Metal-Body-Shell-Desert-Off-road-Truck-RTR-Toy-p-1376223.html?rmmds=search
Tomley rc garage also has a review on this which is another fairly slow but good crawler for the size for a forest trail or backyard running.

to me, the name "Typhon" was always associated with power and speed and strength and everything good you want a buggy to be.. i have a Typhon 6s v4. i absolutely love it. by far the best rc ive ever owned. other people may feel differently, but the Name TYPHON demands respect imo.. i was irritated that theres a 3s version. and even more super irritated that theres a brushed version. i feel like theyre using the name typhon to sell cheap rc's. Thats how i always felt about it.. But after watching this video ive changed my mind.. its cheaper, yes.. and its a slower brushed plastic version of the powerhouse we all know and love, but its still Arrma. they still put time and effort into it and made a good buggy.. and i would absolutely see myself buying this for my son.. I wanted to get him something 8th scale for a while but never did because thats a lot of power for someone whos only been in the hobby for a year or two and a 14th scale rc is the biggest hobby grade car he has.. thats an enormous upgrade from a cheap 14th scale to a massive 8th scale typhon 6s... But this thing right here i feel like is the PERFECT middle point between the two. i can absolutely see him (and many many other kids in similar situations) having a blast with this thing.. It appears to be a great car to learn the 8th scale platform with.. I think you may have just convinced me to grab one of these..
    awesome vid man.

I would suggest for people wanting to get this but in the fence for the blx version, if you want to get to know your rc buy this one. You can get all the 3s blx parts and upgrade when things break.
