Fun Fact about power guard : It has a built-in Guard up skill, once you power guard after a very short while you will gain guard up (you will notice it by a flashing blue aura on your hunter). That's it.
What I don't quite like about the built-in Guard Up is that usually we'd be nearly out of stamina by the time it activates. Dunno if I'm just bad at timing it or smth, but it always activates when my stamina bar is just a bit more than halved already.
Yo! As a lance main, I'll let you know 2 things about Alatreon against elemental evade lance! #1 He's a cake walk with evade lance, dont even bother bringing guard lvls. His attacks are easily dodged with full evade window/distance which Nami+Safi give you out of the box iirc. #2 Namielle Y chest+waist. The rest just Safi. This'll give you both Dragonvein and Element acceleration which can pump your element damage to 1000+ making the topple thresholds super easy to achieve. I guess running ele lance against other monsters is possible with a similar set, like Nerg, Jho, Nami etc... But they do need to have juicy hitzones for it to be as effective as raw. Just my 2 cents! Missed you!

In order to feel like pre-MHW you need evasion 5, and evade extender which is heavy skill investment, enough reason for most people to prefer guard lancing instead.

6:30 This tactic is GREAT for Alatreon's forward cone ice breath. It knocks you back so far even with guard 5 that you can 180 when he winds up and have the knockback scoot you right into his head for a strong-thrust.
The lance skill that I definitely love and must have in every set is offensive guard. Not only does it make guarding feel more rewarding but also gives lance a much needed damage boost that is super easy to keep proced.
This video is sweet. I started my MHW journey with longsword, tried a bunch of weapons, set my heart on IG, then somehow ended up maining IG, HBG, and loving lance? Buy anyway, the way you structured your video and how you present the information feels engaging and down to earth. I struggle with clinical information dense combo videos, which this couldnt be further from. Awesome stuff.
Watched your first Lance video a while back when I started Lance to see if there were any facts I missed. Had this pop up trying to figure out more iceborne Lance stuff since I just got Iceborne. Nice to be back.
So, fellow lancers, lancettes, and lance-persons, with the Fatalis update, you can now meld the Guard Up decoration if RNG has not been kind. It will take no small number of decorations to meld, but the option is now there for us. Mighty Bow decorations are also craftable now, though they require even more points.
Another tip worth noting in general with any weapon but especially with lance is to set your camera distance to far, since with lance you are always at point blank range of the monster, it can be hard sometimes to keep track of what the monster is doing up close. I personally have camera speed set to the highest option to keep up with quick monsters as well. This of course works best when see through silhouettes are on as well (which I assume the majority already has on since it is a literal game changer).
So I started really using lance after you made the why you should play lance video, and now I'm alot better at lance and you show up giving advanced lance tips xD

Here I am in 2023 replaying world as I've recently gotten a friend into his first playthrough of a normal monster hunter game, and have been taking him through it. Decided to try, and learn Lance. Looking forward to tanking everything that can be thrown at me.
I only have a switch so can only play generations (until Rise comes out...) And I only played World a little bit at a friend's house a few times. Haven't touched it in nearly a year. That said, I watch all of your videos be they about World or not, because you do such a stellar job of explaining things and making it extremely entertaining. Your taste of music is also great- that acoustic Pure Imagination was really nice at the beginning of this. I fell in love with that tune after hearing Alex Stopa's marimba arrangement of it.
You should make more video about Iceborne (Alatreon, Fatalis, the meta,...). You explain so well and I personally find your videos more informative and easy to understand than the ones of JinJinx and Tuna. Now that they left Iceborne, there is a huge vacuum for Monster Hunter Math.

Another fun fact: You take more chip damage with power guard. A small sacrifice to pay for the guard up skill, I suppose.
