@AC84 I don't know man, I took the Lance for the first time in IB as secondary weapon to my SA.
I avoided brute tigrex like plague, but then said fuck it and tried him first time with the Lance without any information on that monster. I killed him with 0 carts in like 14 minutes...which for me was great accomplishment and I fell in love with the Lance after that.

One incredibly important feature of the Lance is its hurtbox selection. The Lance doesn't just deal its damage to the first or closest hurtbox you make contact with (wide sweep notwithstanding) but instead chooses the weakest hurtbox of all the monster's parts you stab. For instance, if im standing under a monster's leg, and perform an upward thrust that hits the leg, back, and tail all at the same time, then the damage will be applied to the tail, since it was the weakest part. Other weapons don't do this.

    • @HamsterPants522
      @HamsterPants522 6 місяців тому +3

That's very interesting! Then hypothetically, Lance would get easier and more consistent value out of the Weakness Exploit skill than other weapons?

    • @lred1383
      @lred1383 6 місяців тому +3

@@HamsterPants522 not even hypothetically, that's kind of lance's thing. Easily tenderize a part, and then stay glued to it for the entire fight because you have all the positioning tools you could ever want and the monster's attacks are barely even a nuisance

Forget MHW and video games all-together. This is by far the best guide video I've ever seen. The fact that he didn't shift into side-bar data or stories every 60 seconds is a godsend. The information was clear, concise and to the point so much that it makes me question every other youtuber that makes similar content, like "Why can't you put together a video like this"? This video played out like it was made by someone who doesn't make videos but instead someone who was tired of seeing all the garbage floating around out there and decided to set the standard. Amazing work, well done and I'll look forward to your content in the future.

This is a superb guide, thank you. You wanted feedback, so: Your delivery and pacing are very good, not too fast but still information dense - I think it's important to give the viewer time to assimilate and think while watching and you do it very well. The structure of the video is well thought-through - it is easier to appreciate nuance when it is presented in the right context and I felt you managed to do this consistently. Thanks for sharing your script, it's a good reference in and of itself.
There are lots of little, but very useful details strewn through the video though they do not come across as distractions but rather fit well into the overall flow of your presentation. That's very hard to do well.
I'm playing GU now but this is a great refresher as I'm about to add Lance back into the mix. I have been meaning to watch it since you released it and only just got around to it. It was worth the wait and the time, thank you.

Excellent guide. I was a bit wary at first when you recommended starting on other guides as while I have played quite a bit none of it so far has been on lance but you do an /incredible/ job of breaking down the fundamentals in execution and application. Dont sell yourself short on this guides accessibility. While I would definitely enjoy other videos(even if they didnt match the depth of this one) on lancing styles, your take on skills, and monster tactics it feels a bit greedy to ask for it after such well done and thorough video. Downloaded this to my harddrive and will definitely be referring back to it as I learn the ropes playing lance. Production-wise everything was spot on. Footage was relevant to the commentary the entire time, narration was clear both in delivery and explanation, no quality issues. Not trying to sound like so much of a brown noser here, it was just that damn good of a guide.

I made a new character to play some weapons I've never tried before, including lance. My most shocking realization is that the poke, poke, poke, backstep chain actually locks all attacks into a single direction! Although it's been five years, thanks for the tips. I played switchaxe at launch. It's amazing to get to feel how the lance is quite literally the opposite of the switchaxe.

well, I decided to main lance thanks in large part to this guide. Just hit high rank and I have no regrets. My gameplay started out clunky at first since the lance flows in such a different way to any other weapon, using parts of its moveset to get around rather than just walking. But I feel like an unbreakable, unrelenting wall that just hounds on a monster forever until it dies. Can't wait until I get weapons with actually good sharpness and get health augments so I can truly never retreat.

Really loved it and i'm sure this video will make me better Lancer. I have a few tip for Multiplayer play, 1) Take one point on flinch free so that other will not trip u and 2) when u counter monster near other ppl, do power guard instead so that ur teammate attack will not trigger the counter and cause u a cart. Again, Thx for this guide.

Mate you are just excellent. I watch videos about things I know a lot about all the time because I know there is always more to learn. Anyone who is to proud or think they know everything is either delusional or an a-hole.
I just wanted to say that I knew I would learn something but I could not beetle his many little things that I did not know and even a move I did not know existed.
Wow I was blown away with how much I learned from you.
Makes me kind of mad I did not find out or know this video earlier.
I mean I have been using the lance for most of the game and for probably 400 hours after a it a great season to solo with since I don't have any friends who play monster Hunter and find it hard to find a stable group who are not godly or total noobs.
You really helped me out. Sometimes I find I can get a little bored (very rarely though and after 6-8 hours)with the constant poking but that's usually of I am farming one monster so I move to another or just make me armor sets our weapon out yet another weapon.
But that's why I love Monster Hunter. It's the only game where you can always be learning a tonne. Especially since mattering all 14 weaponswould take years and years I would say if not decades to be the best. Other games just don't have such varied weapons or as many........ I could go on for hours. I just think this game is an instant classic and one of my top 3 games of all time. I wouldn't think so but I can't argue with nearly 800 hours when I would only have a lot a quarter of that into the next closest game.
So thank you so much for this video.
I always watch Arekkz's videos to start and now I know to look for yours once I get fairly competent with it. Not sure if you have other videos like this I will have a look after this.
Thanks kind sir for such an excellent video. Super well done.
You are a champion of the lance and champion in general.
Would love to fight along you some day so I could learn from you in person and have some fun.
Wish they had a 2 thumbs up here.

    Amazing job with this one!

You are a saint for taking the time to make this video. I'm only 20 minutes in and feel like I should be taking notes.

A couple of points regarding the shield bash follow up for guard advance.
    - Shield bash recovery can be cancelled with a counter.
    - A subsequent thrust attack can be aimed slightly.
Thank you for making this guide, Zero. Easily the most exhaustive guide to lance mechanics.

As an up and coming Lance main I enjoyed this very much. I actually never knew about the guard dashes in multiple directions and the guard frames on it. At least not until now, this changes a lot of things.

This inspired me to try the Lance and boy, was I not disappointed. The combo variations and options are a lot to take in and apply them out in the field but I've been practicing on various elder dragons to find my areas that need work and I'm having a blast. Good stuff indeed. Please do more if you have the time. You put a lot into this.

Started using the Lance when Kulve Taroth came out, thought it was fun just dashing through her skirt. Had so much fun that I haven't touched my main weapon (Gunlance) ever since. Never thought there were more to the lance than what 400+ usage has taught me. Definitely looking forward to more Lance content!

Thank you for breaking down the mechanics. I am new to Monster Hunter and I had watched those other introductory weapon videos, but I feel this is what I needed to take my gameplay to the next level. I believe I am going to need to drill in the training area for a while to achieve this level of efficiency. Thanks again for the great video. I am looking forward to the rest.

I've been maining Lance in MHW, and honestly I love it. My favorite build for it is a hybrid between a little bit of DPS, tons of defense, and lots of health regen.

Other than efficient, I like how consistent the lance is. It doesn't have any REALLY bad matchups, while also having some very good ones expecially against otherwise hard monsters (Kirin, Lunastra, Jho)

If part two does eventually end up being made I'd really like for lancing styles to be a part of it. This would ideally include how to optimise different styles and maybe, for those of us prone to indecisiveness, a way of incorporating little bits from all the styles to form some kind of hybrid style. (also thanks for this video it's very informative and a well paced, easily digestible guide. I look forward to more like this in future!)

16:32 would power guard all day against nergigante, not because I don't trust you - but because you're dead meat if you're at a weird angle, since normal guard wont block from behind.
I agree with everything else, you're a master at this game.

This guide has helped me to realize how versatile the lance is and will help me to become a more efficient hunter with it.
