Some Trivia about this Video and why it took so long: - This was suppose to release on Valentines Day 2022. - Before Sunbreak released, the script was rewritten and re-recorded 2 times due to technical difficulties and new discoveries. - When Sunbreak was announced, my motivation to work on this video was almost gone because I could not predict to what extend the Lance would change. - Due to many discoveries about the Lance in Sunbreak, the script had to be rewritten 2 more times and required entirely different video footage than before. - Some of the voiceover differs from another due to them being recorded at different times within the past year. Knowing that the Lance is unpopular and Sunbreak being fairly less relevant at the release of this Video, finishing this project was a fight against my own mind which knows it would not gain much traction. So... This is proof of myself overcoming all odds.
You were right, i didn't even know i was in love with the lance, have watched at least 30 videos about it, but this, this was the one! Thank you! I really apreciate all the work you put in it!
It's a damn good video. NGL, this video is probably the final nail in the coffin to my reluctance to giving MH:R another shot. I've always been a lance main but when I tried MH:R for the first time, I tried maining a different weapon. Now, in retrospect, it may not have been MH:R itself that turned me off, but the fact that I wasn't playing my old, comfy lance. I had forgotten the *love.*
@@TubeTAG Play what's most fun for you. I've played so much Hammer over all these years I needed a break, which is why I bagan MHR with Hunting Horn. Turns out learning weapons and figuring out those stupid little details is quite fun for me.
@@Vilithos I think the part that didn't work for me, in retrospect, was I was trying to learn too many new things at once. A new weapon, new monsters, all the new wire-bug things, a new system in the form of the switch and getting used to its controls, etc. I eventually recognized I wasn't having as much fun as I normally would, and stopped. So I'll go back and limit the "new-ness" to just the stuff specific to just those things specific to MHR. Hopefully that will let me find the fun in MHR.
I don't know why this vid hadn't blown up in the MH community yet. BRO. I HAVEN'T FINISHED WATCHING IT YET AND I WANT TO TAKE MY LANCE AND PIERCE INTO THEIR HEART BRO. Absoloutely astounding. Good graphics, easy to follow, you did a great job bro. One of the est lance guides i've ever seen. Nothing much to add. Except: GOD GAVE US EYES ON THE FRONT OF OUR HEADS SO WE CAN LOOT FORWARD AT THE FUTURE. -Based MH player
Probably the most in depth and best Lance guide on UA-cam at the moment. I can tell you worked super hard on this! Great work. I hope to see you do other weapon guides at some point. 💗 Edit: WOW I always thought Twin Vine was completely useless but you've convinced me otherwise, I had no idea you got so many buffs from being connected to the monster. I'll definitely be giving it a shot at some point.
Man I still rewatch you're heavy bowgun guide. (And hunting horn)I don't even have sunbreak right now, but your passion is infectious. I fear given the opportunity that people would optimize every part worth living out of their lives. You don't always have to do UA-cam, but don't you ever give up.
Sadly, for the sake of efficiency -time- is saved, but at the same time- you lose time that could have been used to put more love into things. I understand what you are saying, though giving up was never once on my mind. It's more about trying to gather back the energy to take care of what I believe has to be done. That can sometimes be quite hard, just like for this video
This came out amazing. I'm a self-taught lancer, but quite a few points from this were a great help. Especially the tips regarding twin vine! Didn't even have a clue that it got you additional aggro. Edit: Realized I'm underselling how much your coverage impacted my gameplay. I'll just say that it made me love the weapon even more.
This has to be my favortie guide for anything ive ever seen. i came for the lance guide and stayed for the amazing editing and pacing. its a lot of info and i might have to go back and rewatch a few parts to fully understand everything, but honestly i dont care cause the vid was so informative and entertaining to watch. I hope you continue to make videos because this was amaxing.
This was incredible. Editing, pacing, informative content, all of it. It truly shows how passionate you are about this. Thank you, for sharing your love.
This is probably the best MH weapon guide of the modern MH guide era. I normally hate long guides, as they just spend 30 mins rambling over the moves and end up only explaining the core combo that the 5 mins or less guides already cover. I used to be an evade lancer (4u, Gen, XX) and lost touch with the weapon, your guide rekindled my love for it! Even a dog with thousands of hours in MH can still learn new tricks :)
I'm one year late, sorry ! I watched a ton of Lance video lately, but yours is above everything else ! Clear tips, timestamps, great montage and fun ! Thanks!
Just found this video, as a lance main this is a very high quality and well put together guide that I would easily recommend to anyone! Also I am one of those Evade Extender Stans for sunbreak, especially when those monsters think they've jumped back far enough and I just do the power move of turning 180 degree and appearing in their face with my back turned, it's both a power move AND a flex that I don't even need to look at them XD. Yes Twin Vine would just let me jump, but evade extender is versatile in other scenarios as well other than only when you want to go in your target's direction. One of my favorite combos possible with evade extender 3 is against flaming espinas, when it does its multi charge attack, I insta-block the incoming charge, follow it up with a long backhop and it places me RIGHT in front of its face for a quick 180 degree turn with anchor rage against its fireball, gives me a yellow buff and immediate punish on its face. Another reason is map navigation is so much better with evade extender too since it affects midair dodges while using wirebugs. It's how I keep up with palamute hunters even with a palico out XD.
As someone who played a lot of lance ever since mhf2 and didn't really need a guide, this video was fantastic and I watched in awe every minute of it. Your passion for the game and your video editing/directing skills are truly inspiring. I too don't enjoy the leaping thrust spam style, but i'll admit that it's a nice tool to move around, reset your sweep combo and quickly build your Powder Mantle/Intrepid Heart
Absolutely fantastic video guide. Actually no, this is not just a guide, its honestly a work of art. You also made me reconsider my Lance playstyle, thank you for the video ❤
This man.. the dedication this man displays at every opportunity is immaculate. Truly a content creator who deserves every bit of recognition. Absolutely a wonder and of nop-notch quality, it's a travesty you don't get more traction from the algorithm. I plead you to keep up with your work, never rush yourself to release a video until you feel like it is truly done, and don't ever let people discern what you should or shouldn't do in your videos.
The fact that i watched this whole guide without even touching lance once. Now i do solo hunts and learning the ropes of which block to use when and Monster attack windows 👏🏾 Thank you ! This guide is by far the most entertaining and well put together Guide i have ever seen🎉
This guide's amazing, and it clearly lays out everything you need to know, I love it and I'm genuinely shocked you don't have more views! Can't wait for the next video, I don't even care what weapon it covers, I will watch it.
It's actually no surprise. Lance and Sunbreak aren't really peaking right now, so it just sits here waiting to be watched. Currently I'm taking a break from making weapon guides and am working on some other content instead. But I can assure you I will cover the next MH game. Thanks Funky Kong
christ the production on this is amazing. i'm just recently getting back into lance from playing it in world, and this just made me want to main it more because of your enthusiasm for the weapon. it suits my playstyle perfectly with the whole sticking to the monster and keeping it from getting to your team style, along with the stylish counters and stuns. definitely dropping a sub just from the production, especially the crisp sound design!
As a somewhat experience Lance user who, needless to say, learned plenty from this video; I gotta give guard thrust exactly ONE point of credit and nothing else... You can go into the sideways or backwards guard dash, which is only useful in the niche of you already shielding.... Uh... that's all I got. It definitely has the least utility out of ANY other legacy move. But this was a perfect guide, thematically, editing wise, perfect for my growing journey to master every weapon. Here I thought my Gunlance skills would already translate, but only in concept. We both aim to pierce the heavens, and to that degree there is no limit.
Best video on Lance I've seen in a while, haven't been this jazzed since Herny's vid on "why you should play lance" in Iceborne - which is why I picked it up in the first place. It's by and large the most subtly nuanced weapon in the series... at least from the main 14 I know about, haven't touched Magnet Spikes or Tonfas - but hopefully one day I'll put some time into Frontier Z. Getting back to Rise and Sunbreak, I think the former tainted my view about it's evolution up to that point. I had only played Lance in Iceborne prior at the time, and right now I've been going through the old games but as a dedicated lance main with my friend who is a hammer bro - he's only played World so it was my opportunity to show him the older games. So having these Ariel options like Twin Vines in Rise and Skyward Thrust in Sunbreak really didn't gel with me, but if I had ever tried Lance in Cross/Double Cross I would have seen similar things in the Ariel style being toyed with - among getting a parry in other styles that I'm assuming is better insta-guard (We are at the end of MH4U so I'm not sure about that yet). I knew about insta-guard being able to do just about anything out of successfully landing it back when it's frame window was like... 1-2 frames for a "strong" counter that was super weak - you had to treat it like Fox's shine from melee to do interesting things with it outside of it's intended counter. But I'm glad you talked twin-vines up more - I really need to get back into Sunbreak so I can do more with it and get comfortable changing my defense into offense in more lateral ways than the triple poke, reposition, or strong attack mindset. Lance is a great weapon and it warms my heart to see niche MH content creators give it love even if Longsword has kind of grabbed the multitudes as Lance sits with Gunlance in the least of all time picked category (though it has been a while since I've looked at polling for Sunbreak weapon popularity).
There are so many important details that other guides forget or don't know. Great video! Having subtitles will increase the quality of the guide. Even the automatic ones would do the trick. Also, the video editing here is "chef s hand"!
Stun Damage with "Guard" Switch Skill Sunbreak's Title Update 5 has introduced a new rampage Decoration which lets you deal stun damage when blocking with "Guard" while standing close enough to a monster's head. With this "Stun" hitbox you can deal actual damage with Guard. Pretty ridiculous to play with.
@@crimsonwizahd2358 With that Deco: It only works with the standard "Guard", can't crit or deal elemental damage, but deals significant stun. I only recommend it if you commit to a set for Raw/Stun builds. Insta-Block simply scales better and is more viable for builds.
I’m honestly speechless at the quality and love poured into this video. Absolute joy to watch and it just convinced me to try learning the lance when I otherwise would’ve never even considered it.
I loved all this even though I still miss world lance. Out of all the mishaps of clutch-claw it gave me a lance who truly was unbreakable. ( Yes, twin vine is there but it doesnt give the same OOMPH.. but you did show me how useful of a skill it is!)
Subscribed because I went back to playing Rise again just to learn Lance, and make my first build. I’m learning a lot and I’m enjoying MHR again. I successfully defeated my first Magnamalo in Solo with Lance. 😭😭😭
I'm an LS main but started learning the Lance in TU5 since I always play the Tank class/role in any game I play whenever possible. Lance is the closest to it and I really missed that feeling of being "invulnerable". I've been checking several videos, even from well known content creators, but your guide to using Lance is hands-down the most detailed I've seen in terms of explaining how each of the skill works. I've read that you responded to one of the comments saying "this video is just waiting to be watched". Just know that you left a great guide to potential Lance users in Sunbreak here. Hopefully, in the next MH franchise, you'll be making more videos. You did an amazing guide bro!
Best lance guide ever. Is my first time playing the lance and I have to be honest. I felt in love of the weapon. For me the lance is an easy weapon to play but Hard to master. And you good Sir are a true grand master of the lance
This guide is VERY helpful and very well-compiled. It's impressive how much detail was put into this guide, and it's clear you know this weapon VERY well. Cant wait to pick the lance back up and get even better with it thanks to you
You have single handedly inspired me to drop CB and longsword to main Lance with your excellent atmospheric and legendary video. Great story telling and editing. Liked and subbed and I'm excited to check out your other videos
I've never used lance before, but after watching this informative, helpful well compiled entertaining guide i have started out my pokey pokey journey and its all thanks to you! honestly have fallen in love with MH all over again and i still rewatch this to check and practice as im a slow learner but honestly hats off to you! the quality of this video and seeing your at 1k subs... is ludicrous you deserve much much more viewers and views! thank you very much!
Very high effort video. somehow i knew it would be just from the thumbnail and title. If rise was as popular as world i bet this channel would’ve blown up 😁 I tried using lance w/o a guide and even though it’s fun my hunts just took too damn long, hopefully this guide will help me out
I have two sides: One is focused on slipping and sliding around a monster's attacks while chipping away at their feet with Dual Blades The other is a wall, standing there while countering the monster with Lance. Both are immensely satisfying lol
This video is too good, you certainly managed to pierce my hearth. I hope I can bring love and passion to every hunt I embark on with my friends from now on
Very good and comprehensive guide overall, but one tiny point of criticism: Offensive Guard is much more intricate than that. It's a timing based skill. Block/guard a fraction of a second too early or too late and you will not receive the buff. If I remember correctly I think the timing window is exactly a quarter of a second, so Lance beginners or people who generally struggle with predicting monster moves and/or reaction timing might want to reconsider slotting that skill in at all.
Reporting after 4 days of lancing, still trying to string things toghether but man, I love your guide so much, the basics are there, now just need to do it
You are the new Gaijinhunter and Arekkz Gaming, might be even better. I was doing great Lancing in World but not so well in Rise/Sunbreak. This helped a lot. Great video!
Second time watching this after considering giving the lance a shot. Prior, it has always looked like a glorified toothpick to me. Now I'm dumbfounded by its complex toolkit - yet tempted! Also joining the choir: You put a lot of hard work into this video, and it shows. You nailed the presentation, feel and aesthetics!
I knew they buffed Twin Vines but I didn't know about it's other benefits. Now i shall include it in one of my scrolls. Also, this is a great guide for any Lance user.
Despite the outdated and misinformation on some skills (burst/Chain crit increases atk & ELEMENT, not affinity), the presentation is worth the praise alone. I enjoyed the video a lot, here have a free [Like] that cost me nothing at all
FREE?! Dayum. You are correct, burst does not increase affinity. "Damage" includes both Raw and Elemental, else I would have specifically mentioned only one. It's a shame and a blessing that little details get patched over time, but as long as its just something that you can read yourself ingame later on a later patch, I think not that bad. Also, thanks!
Rise/Sunbreak did a very good job with Lance. I think it’s my favorite iteration of it, overtaking 4U’s evade lance and GU’s adept lance which were my previous favorites.
Forgot to mention the new sunbreak rampage deco that inflicts stun damage upon blocking with specifically guard, giving us an excuse to not use insta-block. Does about the same damage as a thrust which is good, really fun against monsters that like to spam multiple hit moves or monsters like primordial malzeno who like to constantly attack back to back. Allows you to be very safe and still rack up damage and keep aggro
30 minute video with no bs, thanks mate! Just started monster hunter rise on PC and having never played Lance before in monster hunter it feels so ballsy. Fuck you monster try hit me :)
Very informative and artistic video yet from a monster hunter content creator, I believe that MH is a casual game meant to have fun, self expression and creativity using the weapon that we choose. Look forward for your next video
Amazing video! I love seeing people passionate about the Lance, we are few but we are strong. I still refuse to instablock though, you’ll never catch me using that thing lol
With the help of this guide's mechanic teachings and the latest title updates, I was able to put together a pretty good Heroics counter build using the Heavensent skill to reduce guard block if not knocked down. It's actually amazing if you're fighting a monster you know well, since the Heavensent buff will give you reduced damage on the next hit you get sent flying on, giving you a buffer should you mess up on low health. Also, maxed Heroics is just so fun to use, it feels awesome to be that close to death and dealing massive damage with it. Oh, also the Heavensent buff maxed out gives sharpness/stamina use negation, as well as on all of the levels, having sharpness get regenerated during a switch skill swap while the buff is active.
@@Vilithos For some reason, I thought Heaven-sent gave guard reduction, but no, it's not too essential to the heroics build thinking about it, except for the damage reduction on the next hit while active. However, infinite stamina + sharpness is always comfy to have.
I’ve never really been interested by lance (hammer main) but you’re video is making me side eye the lance now. When I play online I like to be the one with monster agro to let my squad pump the dmg. I might have to try out lance now.

😭😭😭
Great job!
This is the best Rise weapon guide I've seen, amazing work!
This video is outstanding and should have so many more views.
I appreciate it thank you, I'm already scared of MH6 extending the Guide length by 15 minutes.
@@Vilithos along the way, you'll get better with your editing skills don't worry. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot for the video Bro !!
I learned a lot from this.
I guess mastering the lance makes a hunter into a walking dragonator
amazing guide not only informative you also put all the fun stuff in
One of the best weapon guides I have ever seen. Funny, Engaging, but always giving the most important info to know
This has to be the best guide of any game I have ever seen
Thank you for this spectacular guide, as informative as it was entertaining! Lance mains, piece the heavens!
One of the coolest and helpful guides made so far, awesome stuff man
Very well done! As a lance main, I learned a few things! Thank you for all of the work you put into this!
Cant wait to pick the lance back up and get even better with it thanks to you
This is the only video that taught me you can immediately dash after airborne. I am excited to try it out thanks!
Absolute masterpiece among the mhr guides, thank you for inspiring me to enjoy the wonderful world of lance.
You have single handedly inspired me to drop CB and longsword to main Lance with your excellent atmospheric and legendary video. Great story telling and editing. Liked and subbed and I'm excited to check out your other videos
This is the most amazing guide I´ve ever seen mate, and I consume a lot of MH youtube. Cheers, completly underated, keep it up. Thanks!
I see lance video I click. Block > tap > tap > tap. Big dopamine release. Satisfying, me happy.
Dem, the editing was great. This is the best lance guide i have ever watched so far.
Great job, dude
This is the best Lance video ever.
Best presentation I’ve seen in a really long time! Bravo
Very high effort video. somehow i knew it would be just from the thumbnail and title. If rise was as popular as world i bet this channel would’ve blown up 😁
I tried using lance w/o a guide and even though it’s fun my hunts just took too damn long, hopefully this guide will help me out
I have two sides:
One is focused on slipping and sliding around a monster's attacks while chipping away at their feet with Dual Blades
The other is a wall, standing there while countering the monster with Lance.
Both are immensely satisfying lol
My man went extra miles with this guide and I love it!!
That’s it you won you’re one of my favorite UA-camrs. Gurren Lagann reference sealed the deal
This is premium content, honestly shocked this is actually free on the internet and has so few views. Congratulations! Immediately subscribed.
This video is too good, you certainly managed to pierce my hearth. I hope I can bring love and passion to every hunt I embark on with my friends from now on
Just don't kill em, aye?
@@Vilithos you cannot put breaks on my passionate lance spirit now, sorry. what ends up happening, happens
I'm amazed at how good this guide is. Well done
This guy needs more subscribers
Already hooked on the intro. This is amazing stuff!
Woah there! Don't have too high expectations!
This has filled me with passion
Second time watching this after considering giving the lance a shot. Prior, it has always looked like a glorified toothpick to me. Now I'm dumbfounded by its complex toolkit - yet tempted!
Also joining the choir: You put a lot of hard work into this video, and it shows. You nailed the presentation, feel and aesthetics!
You don't wanna have a bunch of rare meat between your teeth after all... Thanks
This is a f.. next lvl guide. Awesone.
Really good call out on the utility of Twin Vine!
I only have 3 weapons left to learn in Rise. Time for Lance, this video will be my bible. Thanks
Thanks for the great guide! I'm a fairly new player but got pretty passionate about the lance
Thank you master i will never forget your words
This is a masterpiece and motivating me to give Lance another try
This single video turned me from a glaive main to a lance main.
wait...I was about to play Glaive!
@@Vilithos Ooooh I'll wait for that 😏
as a lance player that just finished MHW:Ice a few hours ago, can't wait for the guide on this one for MHR:Sun
A god damn master piece, don’t even play the lance but tomorrow is a new day my friends.
Best lance video I have ever seen sofar 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
There are only three, but I'll take it as a compliment!
I knew they buffed Twin Vines but I didn't know about it's other benefits.
Now i shall include it in one of my scrolls.
Also, this is a great guide for any Lance user.
The Quality I'll try lance today
Guard Thrust, my beloved
OUT OF MY COMMENTS, NOW! >:C
Thats the spirit!
Wow, you can really tell how much effort you put into this guide! Thanks for making it ❤
Very informative and artistic video yet from a monster hunter content creator, I believe that MH is a casual game meant to have fun, self expression and creativity using the weapon that we choose. Look forward for your next video
You have some real insane talent.
Thank you so much for making me want to play lance again
Haven't thought of a heroic-heavensent set yet but holy smokes that sounds absolute bonkers!
@@Vilithos For some reason, I thought Heaven-sent gave guard reduction, but no, it's not too essential to the heroics build thinking about it, except for the damage reduction on the next hit while active. However, infinite stamina + sharpness is always comfy to have.
YOU MADE ME PLAY SO MUCH HBG AFTER YOUR VÍDEO
and now after weeks playing lance here you are again lmaoo
The Vilithos Curse is upon you...
That was wonderful! Thanks for making this
I’ve never really been interested by lance (hammer main) but you’re video is making me side eye the lance now. When I play online I like to be the one with monster agro to let my squad pump the dmg. I might have to try out lance now.
I'm a hammer main.
@@Vilithos then plz make a video for hammer like this when wilds comes out. Keep up the great work anyways.
