Overcoming the ego is a problem. For her to even consider me again I feel she'd have to be able to admit to herself or others reasons to justify changing her mind. At this point she still feels it won't work. That my changes are a show, that she doesn't know me or think that I know myself. She has a point with how well do I know myself? The changes I've made have been consistent and I've been doing them for long enough that they don't feel like a show and are more habitual now but much of my changes have been in the "doing" and less about "being" I think. The changes I've made though are good for me regardless of what my relationship status is with anyone. When she said that though it did resound with me because I too feel like I don't know or recognize her and not particularly in all good ways. I've tried no contact which has proven difficult since we still live together and have kids together. I read into the contact too much at times because when I avoid contact she tries to turn it into me being an avoidant parent or gets argumentative and angry and swears at me or tries to trigger me it feels but I remain calm and don't speak badly of her to her or the kids regardless of the same consideration not being done for me. Its so hard for me to move on from this situation with how long we'd been together, kids together and still living together and how is it all going to work logistically and financially in the future but I also know there is truth to that it won't be until I have let go and moved on that I'll feel and be better or that she'd even think or try to come back. Regardless, any relationship I have going forward will have to be new, if it's with anyone else or not. If I don't fix what's wrong with me and know myself than the same issues that caused this relationship to end would likely cause any future one to have the same issues. Can't have happiness tied to someone else. I feel stuck with how I'd rather continue in the pain I know and problems we have but still have us be in a "relationship" than to picture that I could be better off without her. My standards of myself and what I accept of others needs to rise.

I just wanna say I have never related more to anyone’s words than this. Thank you. I don’t have kids with my partner but we were together for 2 years, and just recently broke up about 4 days ago. We moved in together, I motivated him to get his permit, we ended up working together for a year, we were honestly a great team. And I think what bounds us is that we feel like it’s not that we had to change the whole person or anything just certain things. Like I feel as tho had I have been able to deal with my attachment style and worked on learning to calm myself down and deal with certain emotions so I didn’t explode so much over little things it would have worked. Some people say love is a feeling and you can’t go just based off feeling but realistically some people are more than that. And it’s sad that we couldn’t just get it right while we were together. My ex says we brought out both the best and the worst in each other and it pains to think about it but it’s true. I don’t wanna let go rn. I don’t wanna let go of everything we worked for and all the things we did overcome and change. Part of me fears he will be so much happier without me and although selfish it’s because I feel I won’t be happier without him…

I was in no contact with him for 40 days. week of August 13. He came to my door begging for me back asking if we can get back together. Loves me etc. after 3 days he ghosted me. Just two weeks later from showing up at my door my friend messages me that they’ve been talking for a couple of weeks and they are going to be more than friends. two weeks into the rebound ( from her timeline to me) he is posting pictures of him and her on Facebook and his mother comments she enjoyed meeting her! You are not delusional. These monsters will crawl back to you when they have no one, even if only for two weeks. It doesn't mean that you're his first choice, so someone else goes along with it and they ghost you. That sucks, but that's how these narcissists operate. My nex was monkey branching all summer, and giving me meaningful crumbs here and there that made me hope we were still good. That's before he broke up with me cause he found some other loser around him.

@San_Deep2501 My ex (or now gf again) is pretty neurotic. But we have a deep connection and a long term relationship, that's been on and off for over 10 years... As many relationship coaches have said, any new relationship your ex gets into doesn't compare to what you two had, if it was a meaningful one.
As for the other person, well, my ex took advice from her cousin to try dating sites. That's where she met this guy. She believed she "loved him", and after 3-4 months of complete NC from me and her, she phoned me one day in August (having broke up in April) to tell me she "misses me" and wants to still be in my life, but that she's "in love" with someone else (as you can see, I made this comment 6 months ago).
She broke my heart telling me that. I thought it was finally completely over and we had no chance.
She went on a family vacation for a month and came back from it, saying she missed me even more, and that she never really loved the other person (they never even kissed, nor had any real connection).
So I took it upon all the relationship coaches I'd been listening to every single day for months and months, to try and fix my Anxious Preoccupied tendencies and become a more Secure attachment style... So far it's worked, and ever since those last 6 months, I'd say our relationship has been the strongest it's ever been in 10 years. She even wants me to propose to her and marry and move forward now!

Yes, absolutely... My ex is back with his .... ex just two weeks after we broke up. Ex. So I was just his emotional support while he was probably still thinking about her. We ended the relationship amicably but still it had nothing to do with lost feelings but our environment.
