Not present on this song because Barry was the only vocalist here, but in their wealth of songs, the harmony was so on spot, and the fact they are brothers, their voices matched se much that the harmonies were beyond brilliant. It is like the sum is greater that the parts added.
@xiomara arias in an interview he said he met Linda on Top of the Pops in the Fall of 67 she was Miss Edinburg and was guest hosting. He says it was love at first sight
Members of the Beatles were very young also when they made it big in America. George Harrison was still only 20 when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and Paul had recently turned 22. Mick Taylor of the Stones was only 20 I believe when he joined the Stones from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. The list of young musicians goes on and on.

ah...yes, the pre-disco bee gees , that a "whole generation" never got to know, lol, I covered these songs in my 60's garage bands, great music, great fun
@Blue Heeler yeah...I was referring to my teens I'm 69 and the 60's bee gees were a "pop rock" band to us, whereas the "next generation" knew them as disco thanks, the wife and I are hanging in there, we've been isolated to our house out in the woods having little human contact for a year now
What really messes with my mind, is that there are people so focused on what is called The Bee Gees disco music or disco period, that they miss this gem and other songs that were/are outstanding both before and after the Disco period. I know it's their loss, but the brothers deserve more respect than that.
A truely beautiful song from when the Bee Gees where a five piece band, not just three brothers. And it wouldn't be as good without the marvelous guitar work of Vince Melouney.
Agree ! Vince Melouney and Colin Petersen were extremely important to the early Bee Gees sound, Vince also sang lead vocals on the Bee Gees album "Idea" track "Such A Shame". Had the 5 piece Bee Gees group been able continue, the Gibb brothers were also writing songs for Colin Petersen to sing !

@@sallywilliams5444 I saw an interview where Barry said that Andy was in effect his twin, just born later, they had moles and other features in the same places, a bit spooky but it is what it is
He could and he did before he was married. He even had six girlfriends at the same time when he was younger, and he proposed to them all using one ring. Lol. He’s pretty embarrassed about how he was then nowadays. He could just be standing on a street, doing nothing, and girls would just scream at him, they say.
This was an eye-opener for me. I knew the Bee Gees only as a disco band until my freshman year in college when one of my dorm-mates happened to be watching a "Best of Ed Sullivan" retro show, and this sequence appeared. With their elegant appearance, the row of violins, the French horn, and a very young and fresh-faced Barry Gibb, I couldn't believe this was the same band that had brought us the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack. The Bee Gees really knew how to reinvent themselves according to the times and go full force with any musical style. Thanks for posting. Rest in peace, Maurice, Robin and Andy.
I was fortunate to have the old Bee Gees material with me as a toddler and onward. It's indeed impressive to see the arc of their talent and career, though.
Just like you. Once I get older you tend to go back and appreciate more music that you haven't listened to. Bee Gees music from the 60's is pretty good. Listen to Massachusetts.
He was definitely singing Live. I did notice that Robin was fake-playing the piano. Ed Sullivan is a little before my time, did the musical acts typically sing live or do a lip-synch? Anybody know?
@@michaelkelley9096 A very few sang “live to track” because of the difficulties in sound checking and mixing live for a telecast (that’s understandable), but most just lipped synched.

I just discovered this. It is a wonder Barry didn't start a trend with his tie. How clever he looks. How wonderful he sounds. I will always love the Bee Gees.
I humbly reiterate: this song speaks to me, deeply, across the years. When anger, pain and fear 😨 are all you feel, get deep in touch with your words, and ONLY then you can, and will, be set free.... Thank you Bee Gees.
I've always had a deep connection to the 60s and 70s music, I was the "odd duck" listening to "old" music when my friends were all about the boy bands of the '00s! I didn't care then and I don't care now, music was real back in the day! The artists had ACTUAL talent, they played the instruments, wrote the lyrics, the music and performed with passion. I always get told that I am an old soul, and I have often day dreamed of living back in those days. I'm just in my 30s and I can't get enough of this classic music! 😍
I just turned 44 and was listening to this before and during high school. And my classmates always looked at me as strange, but yet they need to remember that acts like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Bee Gees contributed alot to the music of the '80s and '90s. And I will rather listen to the older material, even including the "hair bands" (like Twisted Sister, Europe, even Gorky Park) before I will listen to those pathetic excuses of "Top 100 hits" they play today.
.....I was a fellow passenger along with the Bee Gees from Australia to England traveling aboard the Fairsky during 66/67 new year period. They performed on board and they were good, not sure if their performances were gratis or payment towards their voyage . Couple months later we were hearing them on the shortwave in Switzerland and saying ,,but that's them,, who would've guessed they'd actually make it so quickly . They had a store of stuff ready to release when they hit England so it seems . About that time many Brits were beginning to favour a type of mellow rock/folk style music like the Seekers, Peter Paul n Mary, Cliff Richard stuff...; it meant that some other good rock n roll bands in the style of Beatles n Stones weren't so popular any longer when landing in Britain by 68 .
The other thing about Barry Gibb, he has that charm and stage presence in anything that he sings and wears on stage that is effortless. This man could come out performing in a hefty bag and I still would think he's sexy. Then all the fuss on the Saturday Night Fever album seems to overshadow all of the other great albums they put out before and after. The Bee Gees were so much more this one album. I wish critics would stop pigeonholing the Bee Gees as a Disco group. I like the fact that they can have funk, soul, R&B, soft rock and country songs all on one album. Examples of this are albums Main Course, Children of The World and Spirits Having Flown.
I used to listen to this song a lot on radio going to college working on my MBA then , and coming home, you hear it from people carrying transistor radios sitting by the swimming. pool. I will be 79 in the next few months.
This mans music will live forever. Barry and his brothers made timeless music that was absolute perfection. I find it so amazing, especially in today’s world.

Not present on this song because Barry was the only vocalist here, but in their wealth of songs, the harmony was so on spot, and the fact they are brothers, their voices matched se much that the harmonies were beyond brilliant. It is like the sum is greater that the parts added.
When you realize Barry was just 20 when they made it big in America and Maurice and Robin were only 18 or 19 it blows the mind
He was three years older than them
Agreed! The talent that these guys had just oozed out of them.
The list of young musicians goes on and on.
the twins were only 17.... they were just babies in Australia when they got signed
Rest in peace, Colin Peterson the original drummer for the Bee Gees 1946-2024 tenure with this group 1967-1969 he actually died on November 18 2024

The Bee Gees were always up to date on not just the current musical trends, but also the current fashion trends. They always looked sharp.
One of the things I love most about them.
I didn't know The Bee Gees made thought provoking songs before they got into disco.
My favorite BeeGees song.
They didn’t get into disco. The disco craze took over their R&B songs. That’s what they consider those songs.
This was my mum’s favourite song from the Bee Gees. She passed away a week ago.

I'm near 70 now and have always loved the Bee Gee's. Even during all of my hard rock days. Led Zeppelin for one. How ironic that the youngest brother died first and the oldest brother is the only one still alive. Thank you Gibb brothers for all the joy you have given me and the millions that loved you.
Oh Sir Barry Gibb so handsome and talented same with his brothers
I think that Barry has written some of the beautiful love songs that I've ever heard.
Barry loves love songs. They suit him. He says he’s a very sentimental person.
ah...yes, the pre-disco bee gees , that a "whole generation" never got to know, lol, I covered these songs in my 60's garage bands, great music, great fun
@Blue Heeler lol, no I'm from Pennsylvania, but now I live in Mississippi
@Blue Heeler yeah...I was referring to my teens I'm 69 and the 60's bee gees were a "pop rock" band to us, whereas the "next generation" knew them as disco
thanks, the wife and I are hanging in there, we've been isolated to our house out in the woods having little human contact for a year now
What really messes with my mind, is that there are people so focused on what is called The Bee Gees disco music or disco period, that they miss this gem and other songs that were/are outstanding both before and after the Disco period.

Never knew they where a 5 man band, nice info to know.

And he could have easily had a solo career. He was most of the group anyway. It's admirable how he stayed loyal to his brothers.
I remember Barry talking about this performance his parents were in the audience and his dad kept motioning for robin to smile
Barry always had a voice like gold. I'm so lucky I grew up listening to The Bee Gees.
Me too ❤
This is the Bee Gees I remember and love. Also "Massachusetts".
I sometimes use this song( Run to Me) in my prayer life. I imagine Jesus saying this to all of us. No greater love does a man have than to lay his life down for another. Good Shepherd, Jesus Lord and Savior thank you for loving and staying with me. God bless all!
None of us would have a prayer without the Lord Jesus. He’s my Lord and Savior forever.
Anne Marie----- yes I like that Bible verse too. And that's what Jesus did for us
The young voice of Barry just sounds amazing.
Andy sounded just like him. He was his mini me.

Barry's vocal was more compressed on the single, that added some umph to Words.
I absolutely love way Barry licks his lips in some of the older videos. It drives me crazy.
He flutters his eyes a lot, too.
Love the Bee Gees from the 1960's. You can't deny Barry was so good looking that he could pick up any woman he wanted.
He could and he did before he was married. He even had six girlfriends at the same time when he was younger, and he proposed to them all using one ring. Lol. He’s pretty embarrassed about how he was then nowadays. He could just be standing on a street, doing nothing, and girls would just scream at him, they say.
And he married a beauty queen from Edinburgh.

Kudos to Barry for singing this live, when most people today are far too gutless to do so
He was definitely singing Live.
@@michaelkelley9096 Yes, Robin was fake-playing the piano, I'm not aware of him actually even playing piano, Maurice was the pianist. And Maurice's bass and Vince's guitar aren't plugged in to anything either. Sad they had to do that, but at least Barry was actually singing.

I love you Katie.
@@paullacroix3585 aww, love you too 💓
.....I was a fellow passenger along with the Bee Gees from Australia to England traveling aboard the Fairsky during 66/67 new year period.
I love music from the past
This maybe my favorite BeeGee song. The orchestration is fabulous. God, Barry was so good looking!
Priceless writing & singing - what amazingly sheer talent in harmonizing too - these 3 brothers have given us all and more!
My God..Barry is the epitome of what any girl wants ..for life.

You get it.
