My car has everyone of these symptoms. Had spark plugs changed because it was skipping. Thought it might be the coils but they were good. I’m getting my PCV valves changed tomorrow!
on a GM motor, the PCV valve slides into a rubber grommet on the top of a valve cover and the other end to a nipple on the intake cover. thanks for the video!
my Econoline was running rich and i noted the oil dipstick was always pushed up a little every time i checked it. i figured it was excess pressure pushing it up so i replaced the PCV valve and it was/is fine.
I have a 2011 ford bantam rocam only when its hot it will smoke white blue and when starting.when cold there is no problem i thought of this valve can it be the problem?
I have a chevy cruze with the 1.4L turbo. The PCV valve is under the valve cover and unaccessible without complete removal and replacement of the cover. Its throwing a code for lean air mixture. No rough idle no stalling no smoke but acceleration has been getting worse and highway driving is starting to be out of the picture. Although fuel economy is unchanged. The hose leading out from pcv valve has accumulated a small pool of clean oil ontop of my intake manifold. I dont have the tools or area needed to work on it. I have put it off for about 3 weeks now. Have I already damaged the engine severally?
Yes, a bad PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve can cause your engine to run rough, especially under additional loads like when the air conditioning is turned on, as it affects engine vacuum and performance. Replacing a faulty PCV valve may improve engine stability and performance. Good Luck!
NEED HELP: I have a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer V8 is was running great. However, it starting a little jerk every blue moon when I would hit the gas while drive but it was sporadic. It still drove great. At red lights, if idle too long it would sound like it was loosing power & shake a little. I would hit the gas pedal but it would take the gas 2 seconds slower than usual. Yday, it died at the red light. Took it to O'Reilly this morning to check the codes. It gave primary DTC Fuel System Too Lean (Cylinder Bank 1). P0171 crankcase breather house and PCV valve. We replaced the PCV valve but it runs worse and won't stay crank. Please help me.
Your 2004 Mercury Mountaineer is likely experiencing a lean fuel condition due to the P0171 code, indicating not enough fuel or too much air entering cylinder bank 1. After replacing the PCV valve, ensure it’s properly installed and check for any vacuum leaks, especially in the crankcase breather hose. The fuel system should also be examined for clogs or pressure issues, as a failing fuel pump could contribute to the problem. Good Luck!
Air escaping from the oil cap could mean a faulty PCV valve or excess crankcase pressure. It’s worth checking the PCV valve and having the engine inspected if the air flow is significant or there are other symptoms.
If your 1987 Porsche 911 smokes on startup, a faulty PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve could be a potential cause. The PCV valve helps regulate the flow of gases and can lead to smoking if it's clogged or malfunctioning. However, it's also worth checking other potential issues like valve seals, oil leaks, or worn piston rings, as these could contribute to smoking as well. Thank you for sharing. What other symptoms do you have?
Ok I don't have a code reader and have run into an issue with my 2011 camry. The first start up in the morning is great. The engine cranks right up. After I have driven it for a few miles 10, 20 or 30 and let it sit for a moment it cranks, cranks and cranks then eventually starts up. I recently put in a new battery and replaced the air filter. Any suggestions where to go next? I've been told the fuel pump, but the car idles and runs great other than the start up on a warm engine.
Sounds like the car is getting older and needs a tune up. I would drop a bottle of SeaFoam Can in the gas tank. Hit the highway for 1-2 hours. Check and replace spark plugs. The problem of course can be fuel related. So you would want to start with cheaper fix options: replace fuel filter, SeaFoam will help clean the fuel injectors. Go from there. Hope this helps. Also check out this Video on coolant temperature sensor, resulting in hard starts: ua-cam.com/video/VxGDLTGOrCE/v-deo.html Good Luck!
@@fixit3879 Ok thanks for everyone's help in helping me diagnose my car issue. I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump and everything seems to be working great. Around $400 because I couldn't find the exact replacement for my car anywhere else, but that's ok as long as it works.
It might be a faulty thermostat, radiator cap, radiator hoses, or a small leak in the AC system. The first thing I would highly recommend is getting an AC system pressure test done to check and see if you have any coolant leaks.
Also, before you start your vehicle, take off the radiator cap and check if the coolant level is where it should be. Also, start your vehicle and look under the hood and underneath the vehicle to see if you spot any visual leaks. If you are not sure, just take it to a mechanic shop if it makes you comfortable.
@@DanielShepherdjr thanks, will do. but cannot also be that the oil is forming sludge and so causing to overheat?? or even sludge formation should not cause the overheating??
@carlosandresparra9306 Not necessarily always the case, but it is something to look at. There are good engine flush products you can try, like Liqui Moly Engine Flush, but if you go that route, I highly recommend you use Liqui Moly motor oil from that point forward after performing the engine flush.
Years ago I bought a used car that started having engine overheating issues. The radiator was clogged with some form of liquid seal product the previous owner used on a car. So sometimes flushing the radiator might also help too. Good Luck.
@@tonycervantes4816 just change your PCV most are ~$10. look for cracked hoses and squeeze them. the pcv discharges into your air intake usually at the throttle. spray carburetor cleaner gently and slowly. when you hear it rev up you, found a leak.
I started having rough & high idle, slight hesitation upto 20 kmph speed & sometimes AC Compressor tripping until car runs below 40 kmph INTERMITTENTLY, after I got an oil change in my ‘09 ES350. It started after I had mistakenly switched from 5W30 to 10W40 on the wrong advice of the oil shop guy once. Back to 5W30 now, spark plugs are new, throttle body is clean, air filter is perfect, sensors are fine, no Check Engine light and I got the injectors cleaned as well. After injectors job it stayed fine for a few days then started everything again. I didn’t touch the PCV, Fuel filter or pump yet. The only codes I have are of timing chain (advance and retard). Could it be the PCV or what?? No has been able to diagnose it yet maybe coz it’s intermittent. KINDLY ADVICE! 🙏🏽 THANK YOU!

Cuestión sir But if the PCV valve is fine in my car, do I need to replace it with a new one? When is that PCV valve bad? Does it send a code? Help
Same symptoms!!! Will change it within a few days!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. It is very helpful I am this problem with chevy Traverse.
That was very good explanation of the PCV valve thank you 👍

The valve is also very hard to remove. I had a GM with a PCV valve all clogged up with oil once.

Just to be aware - if your engine runs to rich or lean in air fuel mixture - IT WILL generally illuminate your check engine light 🧐👍

Probably not. You have a turbocharged engine. It is possible that the turbo system/hose might have a leak somewhere. Good Luck.
Great explanation and visuals! Thanks!

My vechile blow light grey smoke when crank then the smoke goes away. Will this be because of the pcv valve?
Sounds like valve cover gaskets to me mine does that
There should be a sensor that tells you when this is bad
I agree. But most cars do not seem to have it. Good Luck!
Agreed. Just had this happen recently on mine with no sensor alert.

While you are working on it, sure. But then put it back again.

If there is air coming out of the oil cap, does it mean it is also the pcv valve or is it normal?
