"The most terrifying thing that ever happened to me was that Keith Moon decided he liked me." ~ Joe Walsh A drunken Pete really was found in a doorway by a policeman who recognized him and said he would let him go if he could walk safely away. The CSI franchise used a different The Who song for each of their series.
Joe Walsh had his moments - one of his Band mates in The Eagles remarked "Joe is the nicest bunch of Guys I know." Keith Moon was supremely talented & a larger than life character - how does it go? The Stars that burn the brightest only burn for half as long? Keith burned extremely brightly - but his self destructive appetites caught up with him, like so many other talented individuals we have lost along the way.
Actually Animal was an amalgamation of several rock drummers. Keith Moon was certainly one of them, but Ginger Baker was clearly the main inspiration for the iconic Muppets character. Animal's red fur, hot temper, and wide open mouth while playing drums are obvious nods to Ginger Baker.
Who Are You was released on 18 August 1978. Moon died on 7 September 1978, just under a month after the album's release; on the cover, he is shown sitting in a chair labelled "Not to be taken away".
I’m now 67, been to a lot of concerts over the years. The BEST one I ever saw was The Who at Madison Square Garden in NY on their tenth anniversary back in the 70s. Epic!!
You recognize it, because this was the theme to the 2000s TV show CSI (and their song Won't Get Fooled Again was the theme for CSI:Miami....AND their song Baba O'reilly for CSI:NY).
This is the perfect example of Keith being "Moonie". Doing the background vocals he was just being himself, with Pete trying to actually get the work done but unable to keep from laughing himself. Like you said, one of the rare occaisions where you see John laugh. I am so grateful that they filmed this video to have a final legacy of the Worlds Greatest Rock Band, all working together in private.
I was hanging out with my cousins at the beach in the late 80s. We met up with their friend that had just got back from seeing the Who. He was so amped up and kept saying they were so loud! All these years later I'm still jealous of that dude.
I recall an interview with a former roadie who said that though Keith looks chaotic while playing he said with so many mics on his drums he NEVER missed and hit a mic. He knew exactly were he was hitting.
The Who are an outstanding band!!! There's probably no other band in the world that had their energy, especially live!! They were an absolute powerhouse on stage. You need to watch them live, a great video is called "A Quick One (While He's Away) from the Rolling Stones Rock-n-Roll Circus concert. They absolutely steal the show!! Enjoy your reviews, love the honesty!
No hotel room was safe when Keith was in residence . The water bed in the lift story in a Copenhagen hotel is about as Keith as it gets . Dancing on air conditioning units 16 storeys in the air as recalled by Roger . Keith was mad about cars but didn't even have a driving licence . Ending up at the bottom of a swimming pool in a Lincoln Continental at a holiday Inn in Flint Michigan which led to them being banned worldwide from all Holiday Inns ... plus they were banned from the city of Flint too . Roger is quoted as remembering the £50,000 bill . Paying 9 taxi drivers $100 each to block two ends of a street then emptying the entire contents of his hotel room out of the window because he was bored in New York. . So many more stories to deep dive into . RIP legend .
RIP Keith! He was a character, quite an eccentric. Even off camera and off stage, he was a wild man. After he died, the Who continued on, but it was like their heart was cut out, never exactly the same without him.
Moon the Loon was the ultimate Prankster, nobody was safe wherever he was around. There are so many stories people tell about him, who had the "pleasure" to meet him.
"... nobody was safe wherever he was around". Although I read an article by a gentleman who sat next to Keith on a plane. They chatted, the gentleman invited Keith to dinner with the family. Keith accepted and enjoyed the company. The article was published a long time ago, can't swear to it, but I believe it was written as a kind of memorial. Maybe it's still out there somewhere.
Whatever their field, British blokes will make you laugh. We like fun. We're not really that serious to take ourselves seriously. We will have a laugh, and it's great you've homed into that. It's crucial. So glad you've warmed to it.
Having been born in the 60s and raised with an older brother OBSESSED with British music, the legendary stature of The Who was never lost on me....which is why I was always taken aback when Roger Daltrey would show up on some of my favorite shows , like Sliders and The Highlander. In a very peculiar way, I will also always think of him as Col. Angus Rickman or the immortal Hugh Fitzcairn.
Undoubtedly top 3 for me. My word I was blessed. Beatles, Who, Kinks, Stones, Animals, Zep, Floyd, Cream, Faces, then Sabbath, Purple, VHalen, Rush, Police and SO Many more. Unreal era of life/ music! Plus we still had Frank, Elvis, then guys like Bowie, Prince, Billy-Bruce-Bob-Tom-Zevon etc.... 60s thru 80s were epic. At heart I am an old jazz or swing of 40s thru 60s, but I love rock too. So impossible to stomach current content, so to call it. Good health to ya!

My elder brother took me to see a celler band in early to middle 60s .It was the first guitar band I had ever seen ..The High numbers, The windmill effect made an impression --First band The Who not yet widely known ,
Although I never got to see The Who with Keith, I saw them at least 3 times in the 80's and I've seen them 4-5 times in the 2000's. Pete and Roger still put on an amazing show, A lot tamer than when I saw them in the 80's, but musically amazing. I saw in a documentary on Keith that before he died and was sober, at least for a short time, that he would avoid hanging out with friends because they expected him to be "Moon the Loon" and he was really trying hard to stay sober. He allegedly died of an accidental overdose of the anti-alcohol drugs he was taking. They were supposed to curb the craving for alcohol. He had gone out with some friends and did not drink, everyone there was clear that he didn't have a drink. But he kept taking the pills. It's assumed that he lost track of how many he had taken and had taken more before going to bed and possibly had woken in the night and taken even more.
Mickey Dunn, was a character played by Roger Daltrey in one episode of the American TV series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI used 3 of the who songs in the opening sequence.
The Who were the band that made me fall in love with music. I was in tenth grade and my teacher played them to the class around the holidays for fun. The song was bargain so if you ever get a chance to listen to that one I strongly recommend it. But it’s so wonderful seeing people discover the who and see them in the same light I did over twenty years ago.
Keith Moon (1978) and Mama Cass Elliott (1974) both died while living in the same London apartment owned by singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson. Nilsson never returned to that apartment after Moon's death, he sold it to .... Pete Townshend.
Thee greatest band and live act in rock history. Next subject….. How absolutely gorgeous is our host !! You wouldn’t be single and live in the Chicago area would you ? Absolutely stunning ❤️
OH MAN, The Who about brought the world to a stop when they played. These guy were so close to the edge 24/7 - - - - - HOLY SMOKES. So many great songs both studio and live. "Who's Next" and "Live at Leeds" are two of my fav albums by The Who. Live at Leeds, ya might need a seatbelt and a helmet - HOLY CRAP ! !
John Entwhistle was "The Ox". He was the steady force on stage that held his wild stage partners together. Off stage John was Keith's quiet sidekick in mayhem and room trash.
Hey Stacey, you are for sure more in to the band than most, and the majority of reactions all give the band high praise, but you seem a step above even that. With that being said, I would highly recommend you give "The Kids Are Alright" a viewing, it is a fan made documentary that was released in theaters back in 79(with the bands approval of course). And the video performances from Shepperton Studios actually come from that film(also why the quality is so good), made specifically for the documentary. Sadly, Keith had passed away by the time of its release, but I would recommend it to anyone who has even a slight interest in the band. And for someone like yourself, I think you would love it, tons of great interviews interwoven between tons of great music. It was one of the things that made me a fan so long ago, as the band was always so visual, so their management recorded everything. You just really get a cool peek behind the curtain, and see what made the band tick so to speak. A must watch for any Who fans.
This video was part of the 1978 Who documentary The Kids Are Alright. If you loved this, then you'll love the movie. Their interviews and performance of My Generation on the Smothers Brothers show were riotous.
Thanks for more Who. You should really react to The Who, Keith Moon "Bell Boy" 12.12.12 concert from MSG. Great tribute to Keith Moon, it'll melt your heart. Rock on
Definitely right that there’s lots of The Who to listen to. Tommy is one of my favorite albums. Hope you got Magic Bus and Join Together with the Band in that big list.
Oh honey, I wish I could just gab The Who with you. Its like watching myself fall for them all over again when they, HE grabbed ahold of me. Pretty hard not to love. Thanks for watching with ❤️. (John did his damage off stage, with Keith. Not a blah guy at all. They had the strongest comradery of all the members. The stories are out there😉)
Thank you for your reaction. My hope is that the listening public will demand more from the music industry today. The Who is timeless and oh so much fun.
Enjoying your journey of discovery of this unequaled band. Their talent and personality have no rival. The powerful Love Reign O’er Me will leave you amazed. So many live performances to see as well. Heaven and Hell, Isle of Wight 1970. Amazing Journey/Sparks, Tanglewood, 1970. Enjoy and thank you.
Reason this song and The Who's other song Wont Get Fooled Again sound so familiar to people is that they are both the theme songs to the original CSI and CSI Miami tv shows. Made these 2 songs very popular again and also introduced them to younger generations because of the shows.
Was at a The Who concert about 10 years ago and there was a 50 ish year old dad with his 10-12 year old son at the show having a great time... when this song started the kid got really excited and yelled Dad! Dad - theyre playing the CSI song!! It was a good laugh and yeah - the kid had a great time with his dad -
Who's Next arguably one of the greatest albums of the 70's . 9 tracks and everyone is a classic . One of those albums that is a must listen all the way thru without one throwaway . Stacey you Must listen to this album and you will fall in love with even more !
The 1979 bio film "The Kids Are Alright" is the best way to learn about The Who and their music. This film has this song's studio footage and the live one they made for "Won't Get Fooled". There also lots of older film bits of the group in the early days, all equally entertaining. I really like their hilarious studio performance of the Beach Boys hit song "Barbara Ann".
There's a video of The Who going wild in the studio as they perform the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann". It's great because Keith does the lead vocals. They go into a major jam session which completely rocks until the moment when Keith forgot the words. Great video, it's on youtube too.
For me, this is the first of two encore songs marking the end of the "Classic Who" era/lineup with, "Won't Get Fooled Again" (live) as the final encore and swan song.
The who contributed lots of anthems to my misspent youth into a lot of the corruptions I did to my own body what's various liquid refreshments and such although my favorite band is Pink Floyd the Who, Zeppelin, iron maiden, Rush, Van Halen, triumph, Boston, Frampton and The NeverEnding parade Superstars that came out of the 70s when I was in high school it is very refreshing to see the younger generation such as yourself and you have become one of my favorite music reactionaries that I know if you have enough exposure to my generations music you will come to love it as much as we do, thanks for all you do for us boomers. We appreciate you very much, I appreciate you very much.
They were originally one of the British Invasion bands of the 60’s.They got overshadowed by the Beatles,The Stones, and so forth, until the rock opera Tommy, and then the music world took notice.
Although it has been decades since I have seen it, I am pretty sure that this was from the movie "The Kids Are Alright". Definitely worth your time to watch it. I know I will again in the next couple of days. Thanks internet! Another fun Stacey reaction.
You likely heard that thru one of the versions of the TV series CSI. A couple of those versions (the original Vegas, then Miami and NY) used Who songs in their intros.
Love the who! Keith died at 32 so sad I was devastated at the time, but he was never meant to grow up. Could never get on with the who without him. A proper rock star.
If you have not already, you need to look further into what Keith Moon got up to. Nobody was ever more "Rock & Roll" than Keith Moon. His antics, his lifestyle, and even his car (with throne).
Pete could play pretty much anything. There has been speculation in some corners over the years that it's Pete playing drums on their song 'Slip Kid' due to Keith's late arrival back from a movie set (I think). Great upload.
So glad you found this video. The Who were one of my favorite bands back in the day, They got some grief for the sound of this song and the album it was on; but good bands evolve and we need to appreciate their creative efforts for what they are, not try to keep them in a pigeon hole. We see the same thing happening with The Warning to some extent, although most of their fans appreciate their new directions, Speaking of which, it makes me very sad that Keith and John aren't around to jam with Pau and Ale; that would have been an awesome experience. I sometimes feel like Pau is channeling Keith, and Ale is cool as a cucumber playing bass, much like John, although she moves around more. And I bet Dany could hold her own with Roger and Peter.
Stacey, you hit it on the nail when you said Tho Who wouldn't be them without Keith because he was the driving force! Love the excitement in your reactions because music saved my life. At Live Aid, Queen stole the show but since you love The Who, I highly HIGHLY recommend you check out The Who's performance at The Concert for New York City because they stole the show. Love the channel and throwing you nothing but good vibes ✌️💚
Keith Moon kinda reminds me of Howlin' Mad Murdoch from the A-Team, played originally by Dwight Schultz, and most recently (and IMHO most memorably) by Sharlto Copley. Moon shares a certain wild-eyed joyousness with Copley.
I love the music of the 70's and the 80's but i recognized the music of "The Who" since i looked the first CSI. The Music of "the Who" and the series of CSI is a perfect match, so CSI is on of my favourite TV-Series i've ever seen; . . . . 🤔 oooh, and "The Mentalist" . . . . aaaand "Elementary" . . . but, CSI have the best Music
They were at their best when this song was released, August 1978, but this was recorded in May for the documentary THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. Sadly, Keith Moon died unexpectedly in Sept. '78 - the same bedroom in London Mama Cass Elliot died in four years earlier. Personally, I prefer the studio recording on the album of the same name - RIP John and Keith. Keith was one of the founding members and V.P. of The Hollywood Vampires Drinking Club at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in W. Hollywood, along with Alice Cooper, Micky Dolenz, Harry Nilsson, and Ringo Starr in the early '70s (John Lennon and other notables were added later), Keith's antics were legendary, and with Harry Nilsson somewhat responsible for John Lennon's 'Lost Weekend' period. Go for BARGAIN, MAGIC BUS (the studio cut from Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy album), EMINENCE FRONT, and the entire TOMMY album (World's Very First Rock Opera).
The Who is the band that makes me fall in love with rock & roll, Stacey. "Who Are You" you heard it on CSI series overture. Thanks for react to The Who. You're an amazing girl 👏
GREAT song choice Stacey! This band was so animated and hard rocking. But humor was a big part of their scene. Song was featured on CSI: Miami TV show...
Quote from Vince Furnier, aka Alice Cooper, pioneer of shock rock. "30% of the stories you've heard about me or Marilyn Manson or Ozzy Osbourne are true, all the stories you've heard about Keith Moon are true......and you've heard a tenth of them."
Keith Moon, the outstanding drummer, was so full of energy, they had to use duct tape to prevent his headphones from falling off! RIP Keith Moon. Also, The Who are one of the greatest bands of all time. Part of the British Invasion and have given us timeless albums.
Pete Townshend wrote 95% of the songs and made elaborate demos to present to the group for selection. He played all the instruments including programming the synthesizer. He came up with the project concepts. This isn't the finalized version of the song, it doesn't even have the 3rd verse. Fun video though.
"The most terrifying thing that ever happened to me was that Keith Moon decided he liked me." ~ Joe Walsh
A drunken Pete really was found in a doorway by a policeman who recognized him and said he would let him go if he could walk safely away.
The CSI franchise used a different The Who song for each of their series.
Have you seen Helen Mirren and Alice Cooper telling stories about Keith Moon. The 2 of them are a riot talking about some of Keith's antics.
@@walterfleury3840 I'll look for that, thanks! RIP Loony Moon
I love that quote, I’ve told many people about that. 👍
Gotta love Keith moons use of gaffer tape to hold his headphones on.
Keith Moon more like a Monty Python character than a drummer in this video

The Stars that burn the brightest only burn for half as long? This video perfectly demonstrates why the late great Keith Moon was Jim Hensons' inspiration for Animal in the Muppets.

Donated that vinyl to a friend with a massive collection who will preserve it.
Greetings from Scotland. Absolutely love The Who and your reaction. It has brightened up a dull Monday morning. Thank you.
Best reaction of this song ever, coming from a long time Who fan.
"Love, Reign O'er Me" is iconic and maybe Roger's best vocals.
Absolutely, my favorite for sure.
I’m now 67, been to a lot of concerts over the years. The BEST one I ever saw was The Who at Madison Square Garden in NY on their tenth anniversary back in the 70s. Epic!!

Keith. The man who drove his Rolls Royce into his swimming pool just to see if it would float !!!! Wild man RIP.
I was hanging out with my cousins at the beach in the late 80s. We met up with their friend that had just got back from seeing the Who. He was so amped up and kept saying they were so loud! All these years later I'm still jealous of that dude.
Moon looks chaotic on the drums but the top drummers will all tell you he never misses the beat
He's the dictionary definition of controlled chaos.
I recall an interview with a former roadie who said that though Keith looks chaotic while playing he said with so many mics on his drums he NEVER missed and hit a mic. He knew exactly were he was hitting.

This has always been my favorite Who song. RIP Keith Moon.
Love Keith Moon's expressions!!!! He feels every moment of this song.
It was a good laugh and yeah - the kid had a great time with his dad -
This has to be the best reaction ever!!! Beautiful
Who's Next arguably one of the greatest albums of the 70's . 9 tracks and everyone is a classic . One of those albums that is a must listen all the way thru without one throwaway . Stacey you Must listen to this album and you will fall in love with even more !
Great personalities and musicians. Pure joy performing...
OMG I love how happy this made you :) These guys were such a mix of personalities that blended so perfectly. Great song to react to
For me, this is the first of two encore songs marking the end of the "Classic Who" era/lineup with, "Won't Get Fooled Again" (live) as the final encore and swan song.
You might recognize the chorus because it was the theme song for the original Crime Scene Investigation (CSI).
Sadly only Pete and Roger still alive. Keith passed in 1978 and John the bassist in early 2000's.
Be Happy. Never worry!!!🙏👍❤️🎈😀😎
Great reaction to one of my favorite bands.I had the good fortune to see them live.
One of Rock songs greatest vocals ever - "Love Reign O'er Me" by the Who, is definitely worth a reaction. You will LOVE it!
They were originally one of the British Invasion bands of the 60’s.They got overshadowed by the Beatles,The Stones, and so forth, until the rock opera Tommy, and then the music world took notice.
It was the opening song for a TV show about a forensic team.
This is my favorite Who song. I love how it builds and then bam. Keith Moon is so fun to watch play those drums.
I've been a Who fan from the first note of "My Generation." They are the best live band ever and I've them about 8 times, 5 times with my children.
Thank you for reminding me of all of my favorite bands and songs from the 70s and you look just like Cher in the 70s.
You are too cool and dear! Thnx as always for the true react!
Yeah... saw em in the early 70s in Atlanta. Hadn't ever seen this video. No one has ever had a friend as nuts as Keith. Well done...
I love watching Keith Moon's energy on the drum kit. It's like 5 cups of coffee.
So glad you found this video. The Who were one of my favorite bands back in the day,
They got some grief for the sound of this song and the album it was on; but good bands evolve and we need to appreciate their creative efforts for what they are, not try to keep them in a pigeon hole. We see the same thing happening with The Warning to some extent, although most of their fans appreciate their new directions,
Speaking of which, it makes me very sad that Keith and John aren't around to jam with Pau and Ale; that would have been an awesome experience. I sometimes feel like Pau is channeling Keith, and Ale is cool as a cucumber playing bass, much like John, although she moves around more.
And I bet Dany could hold her own with Roger and Peter.
Keith Moon was one of the greatest drummers around. Gone way to so. Sorely missed.
This is a great reaction. Heartfelt and genuine.
I loved this reaction !! Thanks
LOVE YOUR REACTION AS ALWAYS .....GREAT BAND ❤
Yes, Keith Moon had the best drummer face expressions!! He was so fun to watch!!
Greatest live band, especially from 1967 to 1976.
This song was the theme song to the original CSI tv show - that where you've heard the "who who, who who".
Stacey, you need to listen to Love Reign O'er Me from Quadrophenia... My favorite band, my favorite album.
Also, the character Animal was name after him. Perfect!
Pete Townshend wrote 95% of the songs and made elaborate demos to present to the group for selection. He played all the instruments including programming the synthesizer. He came up with the project concepts. This isn't the finalized version of the song, it doesn't even have the 3rd verse. Fun video though.
