I work for Ticketmaster, and I can confirm the 80s were an iconic era in the music industry. 70’s Rock and Roll also holds a lot of special place in history. I would be interested in watching more Greatest Hits of the Decade videos.
Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel (both featured as solo artists in this list), are both part of a band called Genesis. Both the band, and both individuals have some great tunes.
@@izamalcadosa2951 Yeah, I'm 73 and I agree! My son is 43 and his wheelhouse is the 90s and up so I was shocked when he told me he'd seen Metallica a couple years ago and then saw ZZTop the next year, the year before Dusty Hill died! Like I said kind of shocked me but it was a good shock! 👍
I am a GenXer (born in the late 60s) and for me, the 60s, 70s & 80s were the best times for great music. I listened to a little bit of everything back then - pop, soul, funk, rock-n-roll, disco, new wave, r&b, southern rock, heavy metal... if it had a good beat or meaningful lyrics, I loved it. I did enjoy some of the 90s music, but by the 2000s, I lost interest in most pop music and stuck to alternative rock and heavy metal, which are still my two favorite genres now. In the video you played, I recognized every song and it took me back to the 80s. Thanks, Andre! I would love for you to do a live show highlighting 70s, 80s, and 90s music.
Music really did change in the late 80s early 90s. The stuff that is out there now is sad, just a mix of "samples" or generic sound that is attuned into nothingness.
I'm not sure why, but yes , GenXers listened to everything! Even more after MTV came out. Good music is good music. Had no idea what 99 Luftballoons meant when I first heard it(I learned soon after), but I loved it. 😂
Diana Ross was the lead sInger of top Motown girl group 'The Supremes' during the 60's and then went on to have a solo superstar career on her own, which is still is going on today.
I can relate so much to OP. I was born in 71 but otherwise it was exactly me. I was singing to every song on here. I think there are maybe 2-3 that I recognized but didnt really know well. It really was the most amazing era for music. I find I listen to a bunch of 60-70’s music now but I still love all the 80’s tunes because that was high school for me.
The 1960s, 1970s & 1980s were great decades for music. After all this time most of these song still hold up and are loved by young people who weren't even born during that time. I was a teenager then in university in the 1980s--so this is very nostalgic for me. For Christmas, my daughter surprised me. She's taking me to see Billy Joel & Sting this February. We saw ELO this past September. So, I guess I at least raised my kids to love great music.
I was born in 1975... So I got the classic rock from my older brothers, pop like Michael Jackson and Prince from my sister, I was literally raised by Mtv, had hair metal AND the hits of the early 90's were my high school years (class of 93) and young adult hood! It was an AMAZING TIME to grow up!
Exactly. I was 15 in '83 and think it's some of the best. I was definitely into New Wave and Punk... but when "Living on a Prayer" came on (or if I hear it still), I have to belt it at the top of my lungs! Then there was the week my best friend and I were really into Whitesnake because of the singer's posh accent!
@ It went both ways. Johnny Rotten famously wore a “I hate Pink Floyd” T-shirt, when in actuality he was a fan. In the early 90s, I despised all of the grunge bands, and usually those things you think you despise are actually things you love but can’t admit at the time, not wanting to be a part of the ‘masses” of pop culture.
Diana Ross created the concept of a pop Diva and was the gold standard of being a pop Diva for thirty years, she is a legend and one of the highest selling artists in history
Diana Ross is known as the Queen of Motown. She started as Diana Ross and the Supremes and later went solo. Her career spans from the 60's and still going today.
I was born in 1976 so i got to hear most of these when they were new. I realize more and more now that the 80's were truely one of the greatest music decades ever. You should react to some Weird Al videos spoofs of Michael Jackson's songs. They were done with approval of MJ and with love.

Having said this, you are correct about the 1960s and 1970s in what you said but the 1980s and 1990s had much more diversity and music genres than the 1960s and 1970s. You only had like 4 to 6 music genres in the 1960s and 1970s that produced the biggest superstars in the world: Rock and Roll in the early 1960s, Rock in the mid to late 1970s, R&B and Soul music. Disco, Funk, Yacht Rock and Country in the 1970s never reached the popularity of Rock music, for instance. Disco became really big for a bit from the mid-1970s to early 1980s and then pretty much disappeared in the mainstream. You had about 10-12 music genres in the 1980s and 1990s that were big at any given time. But, yes, the 1960s and 1970s had a lot of innovation and experimentation. The 1980s had much more diversity and the production quality reached a new level of catchiness and swag, in general. The 1990s is considered by music experts and critics to be the last decade were mainstream music was good to very good, in general.
Yes, as the industry grew and globalization/communication expanded, more diversity. And, of course, advancements in technology translated into higher quality production. I remember Cake Walk in the 90s, which I thought was the height of technology for home production! 🤣

I personally like 80s-2000s. Probably because I was born in 1990 so 2000s was what I was hearing on the radio. I pretty much know 0 new music unless it’s coming from bands that have been around for a long time.
The John Lennon song released in January, 1981 - “(Just Like) Starting Over” - was released a month after he was murdered and debuted at #1. The grief we all felt was unimaginable!
The early to mid 80s, mid to late 60s, late 70s and early 90s were magical. I was 10 in 1983 and remember that string of hits coming out. It set SUCH a high bar.
I definitely recognize all of these but as a 70 year old gotta say the late 60's a nd 70's are overall the most musically innovative and thought provoking. Having said that there was a fair amount in the 80's that was quite good.
I'm 55 and agree. The 1960s 1970s & 1980s were the best for music. I especially liked the prog-rock era. I just saw ELO in September for their final time. Jeff and the band sounded just as amazing as in the past.

There's great music all over. Just remember that all we have now is the best of the best of the best. Nobody remembers any Ram Jam song except Black Betty. Nobody remembers (or wants to think about) KISS's disco album. There's more great music being made now than at any point previous, because it's so comparatively easy to record things that it's easy to get lost in the chaff. But you have to look for it, because the cream hasn't risen yet. The things that will be classics aren't classics yet.
@@CxOrillion Sorry but music now is valueless. In the 70s I had to go out and earn money to buy a record that cost a lot of talent and money and time to make and it had to pass the talent test along with hard work and touring. But today any idiot with a computer can make a song and some kid can download it for pocket change. It's just cheap trash. Nothing more. And the industry created their own "talent". And I use that term very loosely. With pitch correction, auto tune. etc. you don't really need creativity and talent and hard work. Music is as worthless as a penny. Completely disposable.
@dimirockeropoulos6104 Totally agree! The '80s was too video-driven, over-produced, and it ripped off genres from prior decades. Nothing original in the '80s. It just took prior decade genres, diluted them, and beat them into the ground for corporations.
Dammit Andre, you made Apple richer with this reaction video. I spent at least $30 or more downloading some of these songs I miss so much. Apple compresses their music files to Hell. A quarter of the audio quality, of the originals. Find alternative sources, and get FAR superior music files. Dont assume that larger files sizes, equate to better quality. After apple compresses their music to hell... they Upscale it to a higher quality file format... to INFLATE the file sizes. However, the audio quality is still Utter POOP compared to some ancient lossy MP3 files.
Hi from Canada! My personal preference for music eras are definitely the 70’s and 80’s…So much good music! Your live will have to be longer than 2-3 hours…lol…Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
I turned 13 and it was the best being a kid in the 70s and a teen to start the 80s and go through!Especially the Music! The carefree times without any electronic devices and go and see concerts and hold up a lighter instead of a phone..kids nowadays don`t realize what they are missing..we hung out and socialized!
14 in 80 and in the U.S. Navy in 86. I traveled the world in my 20’s and still remember how big this music was even across the world. I love the music that came out in the late 70’s through the mid 80’s, for me it’s the best. I do however have to agree with a lot of people on here that say the music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s was the best. I also enjoy some from the 50’s and 90’s at times, but as a whole, being born in 66 and growing up with the musicianship and diversity in music from the 70’s and 80’s, ya just can’t beat it. That’s my cents. 😎
9. I was born in 1970 and have to say the 70’s and 80’s was such a fun time to grow up. I love the music. A live would be great. Would also love to see you react to the songs you didn’t recognize. A lot of great ones you’re not familiar with.
Music in the 70-80:s where about feeling good and share happy feelings. Songs to make you happy. Now many songs are about putting down others, hurting, dark things or remake old songs.
Tiffiny singing "I Think We're Alone Now" in 1987 was a cover. It was originally sung by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967 (I think their version is the best). They were a very popular band in the 60s. The Pet Shop Boys was one of my all time favorite "Bands" from the 80's. They did a wonderul duet with Dusty Springfield (A 60's legend from Britain) singing "What Have I Done To Deserve This".
The fact you don't know Diana Ross just hurts a little. Diana Ross is one of the most awarded female performers in history and Motown's primary performer for over a decade. You might recognize a different song of her's from while she was with the Supremes called "Stop! In the Name of Love!". Amazing singer and she helped pave the way for women (especially black women) in music as more than just sweet, gentle performers and/or backdrops to male performers. She was absolute fire in her prime, especially on the stage. On Michael Jackson: there's some rumor he was suffering from a disease wherein his pigmentation was fading in uneven patches and it was getting worse as he got older. For a performer of that time, having that kind of skin issue could be career ending. With the medicine of the era, it was easier to lighten the skin safely than to darken it (as a lot of those treatments for darkening also carried a high cancer risk). These days, it's much easier to restore an afflicted person's natural skin tone. on Whitney Houston: You're not wrong. In her prime she had a gorgeous voice and an incredible range. Most singers are doing good if they can comfortably sing in two octaves, if they're able to hit three they're considered exceptional. In her prime, Houston had a 3.5 octave range and was the rare soprano who had a strong, rich voice. Most sopranos capable of hitting High C and above have very thin, flute-like voices.
FYI The medical examiner who conducted his autopsy confirmed that Michael Jackson had Vitiligo so it is no longer a rumor but a fact. My cousin has it. I adore Diana Ross’s music. She is gorgeous. I used to pretend to be her as a little girl.
@@anndeecosita3586 Thank you; I'd missed that they had confirmed the condition on Michael Jackson. I admit once he passed, I just stepped back from news on him since most of it was people either trying to demonize or deify him. Because heavens forbid he was just a talented person who did some things wrong, some things right. I grew up on Diana Ross' music; might sound silly to some folks these days, but her song 'Love Child' was a pretty significant one to me as a kid. Not because of my own circumstances but because I lived in a small town with a girl that was being treated like crap since her parents weren't married. Other kids were following their parents' lead; I just thought about the song and tried to be kinder to her. We never quite became friends, as she found it hard to believe a song made someone want to be kind to her and give her a chance, but at least she knew not everyone in town was her enemy.
A lot of people do consider Whitney Houston to be one of if not the greatest vocalist. She had so much power and control over her voice before her voice was damaged later. Not a lot of singers can sing her songs.
I'm in my 60s and can tell you that EVERY generation thinks their music is the best. And every one of them can make a substantive case with plenty of great songs and artists. I'm to the point I just enjoy all the music over the decades and try not to judge. BTW, I'm really enjoying your channel. You seem to really love what you do... so keep doing it. Good luck!
And 90's for country. I was a teenager in the 80's. I would spend every weekend at the skating rink with this music. 80's was the best part of my life. Long before the Internet and cell phone's. Which I think made it that way. Wish I could go back. Everyone that was ever in my life is gone now. All my family and friends and loves are gone. And I am only in my 50's. 💔
9 Gen X from NC here. Yeah, 60s, 70s, 80s were absolutely the best. Just look at current movies and TV shows now. All they do is keep using our music. Even the 90s had some ok music. But basically after the turn of the century, it is all just repetitive remakes that people make on a computer, instead of musicians in a studio.
Im my opinion there was great music from the 50's through the early 90's for Rock, Pop, and Country music. I don't care to listen to new music. Great video, definitely a great playlist of music here.
There's a bit of a complicated story about that song. To put it briefly, two different South American artists each published a version of basically the same song one shortly after the other. One was Kaoma, from Brazil, as seen above, and the other one was from a nearby Spanish speaking country. Both versions had the same melody, and even though the lyrics were in different languages, they meant much the same, with some lines being direct translations of one another. Both artists claimed that their version was the original, which led to a heated legal battle, with Kaoma winning in the end. Despite the upbeat melody, the lyrics are quite sad, describing the bitter end of an unhappy relationship. A similar contrast is present in April '83 top contender, which, despite the seemingly cheerful and energetic melody, is about the cold war escalating into an open conflict over a mistake and leading to the end of the world.

Some of the best music was here in America during those years. Groups like the Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Supremes, Journey, Bread, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, The Eagles, CCR, Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Cher, and Chicago. That's just for starters. Thanks for your videos. You are so much to watch.

Andre, you have become my favorite UA-cam channel to watch. Loving the cooking, and music would be great.
I was born in 1952 and I fine the music from about 1965 to about 1985 was really great music; because they were actually artists. There are some great songs after 1985 but you just don't get one banger after another anymore. You can only get great music from true musicians and true artists. They can go live on stage with a handful of instruments, great voices and blow you away without crazy background effects.
I was born in the end of the 60's and I agree with you. I don't listen to the popular music today anymore. Have you heard Dimash (Qudaibergen) yet? I just came across him about three years ago and he is amazing. I love his music because it has real tunes. He sings many genres and mixes them too and his voice is a skilled and trained instrument of beauty!

This was a great walk down memory lane. I was a teenager in the 80s and have memories associated with almost all of these songs. I think I appreciate 80s music even more now than I did then. The 60s, 70s and 80s had some great music.
I already reacted to your 70s reaction because I was born in 1972. There were 2 or 3 I didn't know in the 70s and a few I didn't know in this one. It shocked me because I figured I would know them all. Diana Ross is a huge star. She started in the 60's with The Supremes (Motown Records) and was adored by Michael Jackson. She was known as "Queen of Motown". She made a few well renowned movies, Lady Sings the Blues 1972 ( biography about Billie Holiday), Mahogany 1973 about a fashion designer who becomes a runway model, and in 1977 Motown bought the right to the Broadway smash "The Whiz" a musical with an all black cast telling the story of "The Wizard of Oz". Diana played Dorothy, Michael Jackson played The Scarecrow, Nipsy Russell (a well know comedian) played The Tinman, Ted Ross ( same role in the Broadway play) as the Cowardly Lion, Richard Pryor (comedian and movie star) as The Wiz, and the wonderful Lena Horne as Glinda the Good Witch.

What a great reaction. I’m glad your birthday song was in Portuguese. You’re going a row though for saying the music was going downhill during the Madonna ‘Like A Prayer’ video - basically one of the greatest songs of all time. You should react to it. Very nice, that Lambada was published in "your" month. Two years earlier I was on holiday in Portugal and Não Sou O Único · Xutos & Pontapés was a banger. Nice reaction.
With each passing day I realize that music was a vital part of my childhood. To this day I know the lyrics to nearly all of the songs and listened to each of them hundreds if not thousands of times.

Not 90s. Late 60s, 70s, and early 80s.
I think after the 80's, music started going downhill. 70's and 80's is my jam.
@@OkiePeg411 I think some 90's songs were good. Some told great stories but yes, I agree that it started going downhill in the 90's.

Who else remembers the Columbia House commercials where they kept advertising the "Greatest Hits of the 19XX's" records and CDs?
12 CDs for a penny!
I remember NOW! That's What I Call Music CDs for each decade.
That’s how I got a lot of my records
Pretty sure I still owe them $$! 😅
This will show my age. They also did Atari games. I got them at 10, and my parents had to bail me out of the contract.
Mike Rutherford was in this list too as "Mike + The Mechanics"
Never will there be music any where close to the 70s and 80s

80s music...era...it'll never happen again. So lucky to grow up in the best decade in the US. Happy times
Honestly, the 50s and 60s for me. Certainly pre-2000. I have no connection to the stuff put out now.
1990s is considered the last decade of great music by music experts and critics.
Born in '68. We'll have to forgive the late '70s for Disco. 😉
@@izamalcadosa2951 I would have to agree with that statement.
@@evilproducer01 Same, 1968. Historically, 1968 was a batshit crazy year. But, at least, we came into the world during that time.
I saw sting but would love to see Billy Joel. 👍
What was amazing about this era in music, is that we listened to ALL of it. We didn’t care about “genres”.
They were all represented in the Top 40 charts.
@ Top 40 now could pretty much all be from the same artist. So little diversity in styles or voices is represented.
You must have forgotten that whole war on Disco and "disco sucks" thing the rockers had going on.
The 80's was indeed the best era for music. Great pop music, great soft rock, great hard rock, many great hits and great music bands.
Born 1967, grew up to the best music ever!! Was in high school in the 80's 😊 🎶 💃

Graduated high school in 1985. We had the best music!
I was born in 1976 so i got to hear most of these when they were new. I realize more and more now that the 80's were truely one of the greatest music decades ever. You should react to some Weird Al videos spoofs of Michael Jackson's songs. They were done with approval of MJ and with love.
Diana Ross was the former lead singer of the Motown hit girl group The Supremes
That's impossible. It's 2024 and it's really hard for a black female to do anything so how'd they do it back then? There's just no way

Having said this, you are correct about the 1960s and 1970s in what you said but the 1980s and 1990s had much more diversity and music genres than the 1960s and 1970s.

The 90s was mainly grunge, but also one of the most versatile, gifted and outrageously mesmerizing female artists in Tori Amos.
The John Lennon song released in January, 1981 - “(Just Like) Starting Over” - was released a month after he was murdered and debuted at #1. The grief we all felt was unimaginable!
I was only 14 when John was killed and I was a huge Beatles fan. I was devastated.

80’s had wonderful music but the 60’s and 70’s had unbelievable music.
Agreed!
Totally agree, music seemed to sound more 'corporate' in the 80's.
Probably the least liked decade from the 60's to the 90's.

The 80's and 70's had the absolute BEST music 💯
Music in the 70-80:s where about feeling good and share happy feelings. Songs to make you happy. Now many songs are about putting down others, hurting, dark things or remake old songs.
One of Best Pop Songs of all time...The Eagles performing "Hotel California" live version from 1977.
AND Seven Bridges Road....just saying.... :)
I grew up in the 80s, and it was easily one of the best decades for music.
@@TheMolabola Whitney in her prime was untouchable!
Whitney was a dream love during my adolescence

The 70s and 80s are the best musical decade ... IMHO ...
@Briansgate, and commercials! So many 1970 and 1980 songs.
Im my opinion there was great music from the 50's through the early 90's for Rock, Pop, and Country music. I don't care to listen to new music. Great video, definitely a great playlist of music here.
Yes, Paul McCartney was a Beatle. As was John Lennon, who had a record come out after his passing, so they were very popular. 9
Dude! That is so cool, October 89 was singing in Portuguese.
@ArabianShark thanks for putting it briefly. LMFAO

10:47 Michael Jackson did get a lot of plastic surgery, but he also had vitiligo, which causes loss of skin pigment.
I never knew for sure that he had vitiligo but after I learned about that I figured it must be what he had. I know a girl online who has it but she's white so it's barely noticeable.
He was very insecure about his vitiligo so when it became to difficult to conceal anymore he bleached his skin tone so that his skin would at least be the same colour everywhere.
My cousin had Vitiligo on her hands and arms. I read that’s how Michael started the one glove thing because his started on his hands.
You’re not crazy- Whitney is gorgeous!
Exactly seems a lot of people did not know he ahd vitiligo and others didn't believe him, till it was mentioned on his autopsy
He buddy, I'm new to your channel bit I'm so glad that UA-cam recommended your channel, I love watching music reaction videos....especially 80's music. I grew up listening to 70's & 80's music and we really were spoilt for great music, so many classics! Here in England we get 70's & 80's music played constantly and to think that some of these great songs are over 50 years old and they are still getting radio play, these songs will outlive us, they truly have stood the test of time. Your accent and your smile made my heart sing. I may be new to your channel, but I Love you already, YOU have definitely made my day after coming home from a nightshift your reaction made me happy. God Bless you my friend and I shall definitely be subscribing and giving you a like. Please do some more music videos, the 80's had so many great artists, not like today's FORGETTABLE Trash!! Have a great day my friend, and a HUGE THANKYOU for making me Smile, I really needed it!! Lots of Love & Best Wishes from England, speak soon xxx❤
You might want to add the 1950s. You will recognize song from every decade from background music in commercials, TV shows and movies.
This was a great walk down memory lane. I was a teenager in the 80s and have memories associated with almost all of these songs. I think I appreciate 80s music even more now than I did then. The 60s, 70s and 80s had some great music.
I’m an 80s baby and to this day I listen to throwbacks. My parents are always surprised I know music from their time.😅
John Lennon was killed in December 1980, his last album blew up in early 1981 ❤
December 1980 was when I was born. 💔
I was born in 1967 but I grew up listening to music from the 70s and 80s . I have a lot of these artists in my record collection .
9 and the 80’s does have some of the greatest music ever 🎉
It's sad how many of these artists have passed away by now. Irene Cara in 2022, David Bowie in 2016...
Let's not forget Nick Kamen, Tommy Page and George Michael.
Prince, Michael Jackson And Whitney Houston
80s had some great music, so did the 70s , 60s, 50s. 40s…………
I already reacted to your 70s reaction because I was born in 1972. There were 2 or 3 I didn't know in the 70s and a few I didn't know in this one. It shocked me because I figured I would know them all. I love, love, love music and late 60s-80s definitely has the best music. 🎶 ❤ The 90s has some great music too, but once you hit the 2000s it starts going downhill. Music just isn't the same anymore. Much love to your family from Tennessee. 🇺🇸 ❤
I was a teenager in the 80s and all genres of music were tremendous
The 70s & 80s were definitely the best music!
In my opinion, the best music was in the 70’s, but the 80’s were pretty great too.
As long as you ignore Disco 🤣🤣🤣🤣😛
Bring on Mrs Andre with a special visit from Santiago with his amazing smile!
9..... I'm a late 90's baby but I grew up listening to so many 70's and 80's songs because of my parents and most of my favourite songs are from the 80's.
This channel has the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and up to roughly 2023
I grew up in the 80's and will always be an 80's fan. But now I'm beginning to see and understand that the 70's may have had the best music.
Your face looked so surprised throughout that it almost seemed like you were in pain. 😂
I also missed much of the 80s, but 70s/80s music is my favorite to this day...can't wait to see you react to more!
Brings back great memories of my teenage years hanging out with friends with music blaring. Does anyone remember the huge 'boomboxes' some people would carry around to blast their music?
I do
What a great reaction. I’m glad your birthday song was in Portuguese. You’re going a row though for saying the music was going downhill during the Madonna ‘Like A Prayer’ video - basically one of the greatest songs of all time. You should react to it. I had a lot of fun watching your reaction though and you’re recognising how much amazing music came out of the 80s.
I understand they couldn't put them all, but they missed a BUNCH of great songs from the 1980's. A mere glimpse.
I miss the 80s life. It was the BEST❤
Love your reaction. 70's and 80's music are the bomb❤
Very nice, that Lambada was published in "your" month. Two years earlier I was on holiday in Portugal and Não Sou O Único · Xutos & Pontapés was a banger. Nice reaction.
70s and 80s had the best music…I usually lean more towards the 80s…it was just great music coming at you constantly!
With each passing day I realize that music was a vital part of my childhood. To this day I know the lyrics to nearly all of the songs and listened to each of them hundreds if not thousands of times.
I love the variety of reactions you do! I was in my 20's in the 80's so I love the 80's music. But I also love the 60's, 70's, and 90's. In particular from the 70's, I love Three Dog Night, Aerosmith (who were still making hits in the 80's), Elton John, just to name a few. Thanks for reacting.
The 70s and 80s are really the best eras of rock music as well as disco and ballads. No other eras can compare!!!!
I guess you haven't heard the music of the '60s, through the whole decade and how DIVERSE it was ! The '60s influenced music more than any other decade.
Born in 1974 and I had the pleasure of listening to the best music in the 80's and 90's. Nothing today comes close to this music... and I fear that such music will never come again.
I highly encourage you to go down the rabbit hole and do the other decades and even the #2 song of the month lists. Love these compilations!
The summer of 83 was 80s music at its peak...also interesting is that there was very close alignment between the US/UK charts at that time.
You just earned a sub from this old lady! Because I can tell you are genuine, unlike others who do react videos.
Please react to other decades of music too😊! I really love the 1970's❤
The 70s and the 60s please!
