One specific detail about this game that I love is that Batman grunts and makes noise during combat. It sounds like he is actually putting in effort and exerting himself instead of being a silent beating machine like in Arkham Knight.

Word! Alot can happen in 13 years. Although Arkham city is probably the best out of the series and Origins is my personal favorite of mines and i still enjoyed playing Knight although its not my favorite, Asylum was the game that made me realize you can make a really amazing batman game and I remember being immersed into the atmosphere and story and was the first game to make me feel like the batman.

It really is impressive how well this game has held up through the passage of time. It’s just as great to play today as it was back in 2009. The entire Arkham series is a must play, even if you’re not a huge comic book fan.

It’s an amazing game even today, it’s an actual game game with good combat and few interesting Tid bits to do. As a first in the series from that era it shines! And the sequels only get better and better. I loved the series and I loved asylum, in some aspects it’s my fav of the series and in one or two niche aspects it’s my fav game ever I would say. I don’t think there’s any facet of this game that doesn’t work for me. It feels dense, atmospheric, foreboding. Just like Arkham should. It doesn’t forego the detective aspect of Batman’s repertoire of skills. The art style has aged very well, which can’t be said for a lot of the games from 10+ years ago. What a classic.

The Arkham series is widely known for helping revolutionize combat in gaming & for good reason.
Rocksteady was initially making a rythm based Batman game and it eventually turned into Arham Asylum, they kept the rythm based elements in the game with music and how combat takes place which is pretty awesome to see.
I think one of the games that doesn't get enough credit for brining the style of combat into the gaming landscape is Path of Neo. It came out a fair few years before Asylum & is one of the best hand-to-hand fighting games from that generation. Breaks my heart that it never gets as much credit as Asylum for what it did for gaming at the time.
Thanks for revisiting this Luke, awesome to see you go over the game and behind the scenes stuff in a more casual setting.

Ironically, the first time I encountered this game was also on my dad’s computer, but it was an iMac. Retrospectively, it was one of the few games on the iMac, much less a good game, and it was such a great as an introduction into the franchise.
I remember watching him play at night after work (which probably helped with the atmosphere) and especially when he was stuck on Croc (since he kept using the quick throw, which wouldn’t stun Croc-you needed to aim and throw).
Later on, we even got it for the Xbox 360 (and I think it was my first action, beat ‘em up style game) and also the first game I had 100% completed and started a second play through.

Walking around instead of running, taunting and scaring enemies, admiring the world design, and just listening to every word i can in every conversation. The day I bought an Xbox 360, this came home with me as well as COD4. Having this be the very first game I played on my own Xbox after hearing about how amazing it was from friends completely solidified my love of games. I had such a blast following the story after having fallen out of gaming due to the lack of PS2 releases dwindling to nothing but licensed trash and sports games (and not really understanding my taste in games due to having been 13 and just maturing into the hobby). Bought every game in the series on day one and bought the remasters as soon as they came out for Xbox one. This series is truly one of the great ones

Great video Luke! I grew up with this game as well, and have always had a soft spot in my heart for it. Mark Hamill absolutely kills it as the Joker. Idk if you've ever played Shadow of the Colossus, but its pretty much the exact opposite of most western style games coming out nowadays. Something I think you'd really appreciate, as, from what I can tell from a lot of your videos, you're not a fan of handholding in video games. I really recommend you give the remastered game, a play through! Epic landscapes, amazing story, unique as hell "boss" battles, etc. As well as the guidance system in the game steering away from maps and leaning into guiding the player through much more natural means. Anyways, Cheers man. Looking forward to the next video!

I just played this trilogy for the I don't even know-th time a few months ago. Could do it again tonight and be just as excited as the very first time I booted them. I still learn, improve and see new things with each playthrough. And somehow, these games still look much better than, say Horizon Zero Dawn that everyone raved about. The feel and fluidity of the gameplay is better too.
Everytime I hear about how the game industry is dying thanks to monetization and live service etc, I think, "No problem. I have more than enough games of this era to play and replay. Let the industry die, whatever. I'll still be playing."
Also these games are the definitive Batman canon in multimedia to me. Each of the movie series is interesting, the TV series, cartoons, etc, but in my head canon, this is the true Batman.

Regarding the Combatsystem in the Batman Games: Check out the Mad Max Game, if you haven't already .It is a Masterpiece of a Game. At least for me. Way ahead of its Time. But i guess you know all that. If not: This is not a typical Franchisegame either. Sorry, of you covered that game already, i was just swinging by via Algorythm.
You will absolutely like the Combat System. At least on feet. Depends on the Player if you like the Roadbattlesystem aswell. But it is extremely well done aswell. Progress is always there and the Grind is normal. Has flaws, like most games. But the overall setting and Atmosphere. Sounds and Gameplay. Looks wonderful maxed out, even to this day. Combat and all that really gets crazy and harder later on.

Batman Arkham City is one of my top 5 Xbox 360 games and I was pretty excited to play it again in the Return To Arkham collection. I’m currently a few hours into it and I just can’t stop wanting to get back on it! Unlike most people (who’s mostly nostalgic for Arkham Asylum), I’m very nostalgic for City as I played it a lot as a little kid in my 360 games. And now I feel like I having even more fun with the game now than I did back than. With me now understanding the mechanics of the Arkham games more from playing Knight a few months ago, and recently 100% Asylum.
Arkham Asylum was definitely a fun time though. It took a minute to grow on me, but I can see why this game is loved so much. Not a personal favorite of mine as the gameplay felt kinda meh for the most part, but still a fun time. Especially deducing the identity of the Spirt of Arkham.

The Batman games are so Iconic and it is always nostalgic to go back to Arkham Asylum. Great cast, great atmosphere and pretty damn good gameplay to.

The Arkham Series did something that, frankly, shouldn't of worked. Should have been impossible. They took everything 'Batman', from the first issue in 1939, to the goofy fun Adam West series, Burton's 89 Batman, the transcendental B:TAS, Nolan's films, the rest of the comics run up until the point the games were made, hell even Schumacher gets some love for good measure, and distilled it all down into what I think is unarguably *the* "Batman" experience. It's all there, as one seamless whole. Every design, sound, line of dialogue, so on and so forth is perfectly "Batman".

I really miss the ps3 era. The only games I truly enjoyed on PS4 are Doom, Spider-Man, Ratchet and Overwatch. Too much hud, open world, chests enemy bars and levelling up rpg crap in modern games.

There's seems to be an obsession with rpg, loot, Multi-player, live service and microtransactions elements forced into every game these days.

I really like the idea of a giant island with multiple buildings, endless mazes of sewers and vents, buildings full of insane inmates. Man, there is even a rock for escaped inmates to jump off of. I also like the horror aspect of the game, buildings that have 4 stories, all with hidden creepy secrets and Easter eggs.

Arkham City is pretty much objectively a better game, and one I am more likely to return to for the world and mechanics. But Asylum has an atmosphere unlike any other game in the series, and more or less unlike any other game I’ve played. The canned laughter of the suicide collars, the asylum chime, screaming lunatics charging at you… the asylum feels so unsettling in every way

Arkham Asylum, to this day, is still the only game that has the highest enterable buildings of all, unless we count some Gta San Andreas mod that made every structure enterable, but it was cheap and generic, every building you see in Asylum you can go into, and its insides are beautiful, Asylum is special.

The next superhero game that I hope can capture a similar dark and gritty tone to Asylum is Marvel's Wolverine. I need Insomniac to be able to deliver a genuinely gut-wrenching Logan story that emphasizes his cold background and personal inner demons, giving birth to a gripping character exploration that does not hold your hands in diving straight into the bloody muck of his world. It's the closest thing to an already confirmed game that is on its way that can stand toe-to-toe with Arkham's expertly crafted dark and gritty atmosphere

if i'm not mistaken, Mark Hammill is actually THE voice of joker, since ever, because he voiced Joker even in the first Batman animated series?
And that one is older than 30 years, I think.
    Just a tiny correction.

Say what you will about City and Knight (the worst of the three), Asylum is the best of them. I played it 10+ years after the release and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of work. Scarecrow shenanigans, 4th wall breaking stuff... If you haven't played it yet - do yourself a favor. Bigger is almost never better, Asylum is living proof

I feel like I'm one of the only few that feels like this game aged terribly? It's super heavy and very clunky. Yes the environment is gorgeous and the over-all vibe and aesthetic it gives off certainly is comfy but jesus, as a pc player, Arkham Asylum, controller or not, is one of the most annoying older games I have played in recent years. I'm actually quite shocked so many disagree. Yeah it's got childhood value and hell yeah it was a blast when I was a younger, but I can't play it now. City is probably the oldest version of the Arkham series I can actually enjoy nowadays. Origins is also heavily underrated.

  • @Jose-se9pu
    @Jose-se9pu 2 роки тому

City has the best story, and Origins has the best bosses but yeah, Asylum is the GOAT.
